    - Pocket PC 2003 Emulator doesn't synchronize with ActiveSync Hi, I have a problem when I try to connect Pocket PC Emulator 2003 witih ActiveSync. Appers the following message: "Critical Communications services have failed to start.Try resetting the mobile devicde, and then connect again". Anyone has this problem? How can i solve it? El proceso que he seguido es el siguiente: -Windows 2000 Professional with SP4. -Internet Explorer 6.0 with SP1. - Installed ActiveSync 3.7 - Installed embeded Visual C++ 4.0. - Updated embeded Visual C++ with el SP1. - - Actualizado el embeded Visual C++ with el SP2. - Installed Data Access Components with el SP1. - Installed .NET Framework 1.1 and theSDK. -Installed Pocket PC 2003 SDK andel Pocket PC 2003 SDK English Emulation Images. Once isnstalled all of this. Config -ActiveSync to synchronize by Ethernet. - Config Windows Platform Manager for Pocket Pocker Emulator to synchronize Ethernet. - Start command line of Pocket PC 2003 SDK and execute emuascfg.exe /PPC. - From emulator, I access to activesync to syncr....It seems all OK but at the end, it appears .. "CRITICAL COMMUNICATIONS SERVICES HAVE FAILED TO START. TRY RESETTING THE MOBILE DEVICE, AND THEN CONNECT AGAIN". - Reset the emulator but I continue seeing the same message error.     - Debug problem in eVC4 Hi. I have a VC++ MFC-project that I have migrated from eVC3 to eVC4, and now run in both eVC3 and eVC4. In eVC3, there is no trouble debugging, but in eVC4, when I start debugging and the Output-window lists that it loads "coredll.lib", eVC4 displays that it cannot move several breakpoints, and effectively removes all my breakpoints. The debugger continues, and the app runs, but it never breaks. Does anyone know what might be wrong? I have made a simple MFC project in eVC4 from scratch, and that debugs just fine, but it probably does not use all the libs I use in the main project.     - Howto catch WM_KEYUP message Hi. I have used the approach described on http://www.pocketpcdn.com/articles/handle_hardware_keys.html on how to handle hardware keys. It works great in a dialog with only statics, adding the OnKeyUp() method to the dialog class. But if I add buttons or edit-box'es, the message is sent to the object that has focus, and not to the dialog class. Is there a way to "forward" these messages, or even better make the dialog class intercept the message before it is sent to the objects in the dialog?     - Windows update on Pocket - only with click Hello, I have an application witch runs on WinNT, .. WinXP. It is an Application witch uses MFC, and has an own dynamicly Window-organisation. There are a lot of window one over the other, the actual one, I bring to TOP with 'BringWindowToTop'. On WinNT .. it works, but on WindowsCE, Pocket 2003, it also works - but the gui is updated only if I click on one part of the programm window. In the edit-fields the updated text display automaticly, but a new listbox comes up, only with a click. Is there something special with MoveWindow, BringWindowToTop, ... or CLIPSIBLINGS ?     - treeview I have a treeview that i use for navigation. The user must enter select a new record before they can continue. If the user does not select a new record, they are prompted with a messagebox. The user then selects a new record. When the user tries to click the same tree node nothing happens. The user can select a different treenode though. Does anybody know why this is and how i can get around it.     - can't debug on Pocket PC 2003 with eVC++ 3.0 ? I have trouble debugging on a Pocket PC 2003 device using eVC++ 3.0. Is that a known problem ? I never had any problem debugging on Pocket PC 2002 devices using eVC++ 3.0. The reason I use eVC++ 3.0 is because I want to keep support for older Pocket PCs (2000 and 2002) and at the time I am not using any specific feature of 2003.     - Pocket Outlook Menu Extension Hi all, I have an extension working pretty much apart froma few issues, but the main one at present is that pOutlook.exe loads my dll into memory when it is run, and will not release it until I kill the pOutlook.exe process, is there any way I can make pOutlook.exe not lock my process? Or do I have to kill the process before I can uninstall the .dll? Another one is I have the IDataObject from the IContextMenu ionterface, can I type that to IAppointment so i can modify this information?     - reporting PIE rendering bug (with non-standard screen resolution) When the Pocket PC screen resolution is changed to a non-standard resolution (e.g. VGA), then PIE produces an incorrect formatting when accessing folders on the web (e.g. http://www.pockettv.com/mpg/sp/ ) Basically all the lines appear wrapped on a single line, with no <BR> at the end of each line. I am using the HTTP Server from the PPC 2003 SDK to deliver the pages, and I have tried all of the following to prevent the caching of a page containing a form (so that I can reload the form page and post it again, rather than seeing the last posting results until I clear the cache manually): In ASP at the top of the page: Response.AddHeader "Cache-control", "no-cache, must-revalidate" (Response.CacheControl is not supported in the PPC HTTPServer) In the page header: <meta http-equiv="Cache-Control" content="no-cache"> <meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache"> <meta http-equiv="Expires" content="0"> I continue to get the "results" version of the page (showing the results from submitting the form) after my first submit until I go into Tools->Options... and manually click the "Delete Files" button.     - Remote Performance Monitor not working Hi, My Windows CE remote performance monitor is not working: I am Using Microsoft eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0 SP2 on a Windoes XP Professional Service Pack 1 Computer with intel pentium III and 256 MB Ram. I start the Remote performance moitor from eVC and connect to the device (a HP 5550 Pocket PC). After clicking on the file or edit menu, The menu line is for quite a while unaccessible and the remote performance monitor is almost crashed. After recovering, I can't add any new charts, or any other monitor features because the menu topic is gray. I got the monitor working for at least once this day, but it was impossible to get it running again. Many other of the romote monitors are also not working, except the remote file viewer.     - Ipaq 5450 serial port issues Hi all Doing some development work involving the IPAQ 5450 serial port addressing an external Bell 202 modem. Using CreateFile() to open COM1: handle = CreateFile((LPCTSTR)CString("COM1:"), GENERIC_READ|GENERIC_WRITE, 0, /* exclusive access */ NULL, /* no security attributes */ OPEN_EXISTING, 0, NULL); Works fine for telephony modems or null modems into another PC but no go for the Bell 202. CreateFile is returning an invalid handle under all circumstances.     - Read File or URL from Javascript in Pocket IE Hi, is there any way left in the current Windows Mobile 2003 to read local files from javascript in local HTML files running in Pocket IE ? Background info: our customer has to change its Handhelds from Siemens Pocket Loox 600 to 610 which runs with the newest Windows Mobile 2003. Our App fails to run on those. Our application is an "HTML application", which means that it consists of Javascript in HTML files. This was pushed by MS two years ago as the easiest way to create Pocket PC applications. There _were_ plenty of examples on the ms site. Now MS seems to disable all vital functions. What we tried so far (it all works on some PDA ranging from CE 3.0 to 2002): * FileSystemObject * XmlDocument.Load * XMLHTTP with file:// url XmlDocument.Load works on a pre-production version of the Loox610 which also has Windows Mobile 2003. Maybe there is a registry switch to toggle ??? Or can the MSXML.dll be exchanged ? We also wrote a custom COM component.     - Bluetooth Active Sync. I have a USB Bluetooth device on my PC, which advertises a serial port. I can bond with this using Pocket PC 2003. However, I cannot Active Sync. The error comes up 'Must bond with device with serial port'. I believe it's because my USB Bluetooth is not very good, rather than any error with PPC 2003.     - HTML Control and multithreads - DTM_ADDTEXT problem Hi HTML control developers: I have this problem with Html control in Pocket PC 2003 and found a work around. I just want to post so other developers may avoid wasting time debugging. I hope MS mobile team will fix it in next OS update as well (if my theory is true). Symptoms: In Pocket PC 2003: Sending DTM_ADDTEXT with zero terminated ascii string to a HTML control from a different thread. The application may crash/hange after DTM_ENDOFSOURCE is sent. Some time it crash/hange sooner after DTM_ADDTEXT is sent. The same code works just fine if change to DTM_ADDTEXTW (with unicode str), or if the message sender and HTML control in the same thread. Also there is no such problem in Pocket PC 2000 or 2002. Fix: After tens of hours debugging, finally I tried to add 2 or 3 zero to terminate the string being sent in DTM_ADDTEXT, it magically fix the problem. Guessing: I think that HTML control responds to DTM_ADDTEXT by duplicate the string and keep the copy locally to process later, then return to the calling thread immediately. The problem is that HTML control duplicate the ascii string as an unicode string. So if you have only one zero at the end, there are chances that the string being duplicated is too long, and the process will corrupt memory space. I want to interact with a Web Service via ActiveSync and WiFi. I need a protocol that will allow me to access the server regardless of the technology being used. I know I can write a provider for ActiveSync, and I'm pretty sure that I can access the web service via WiFi, but I'm interested in the most interoperability and flexability possible. I am creating the "Smart Device Application" in C#. The Web Service will also be running C#. What is the easiest protocol/transport that I can implement that gives cross platform support without requiring different code for each interface being accessed from the CE device.     - Losing fullscreen in my property sheet Hi, I use a property sheet in which only the first page is in fullscreen mode. For that, I call SHFullScreen in the OnSetActive and the OnKillActive of the first page. Sometimes, I need to display a MessageBox, but when I click the MessageBox off it makes my fullscreen off too. I tried to use the OnActivate message to restore the fullscreen state but I didn't succeed. It seems messages don't arrive in the order I expect. Does someone know what happens when we close a message box over a property sheet? In which order do the messages arrive? What is the appropriate message to restore the fullscreen mode? If you want to take advantage of PocketPC2003 functionality, you should
install the PocketPC2003 SDK. The Standard SDK is really more of a generic
"Sample SDK".
