    - TreeView, ListView MouseDown The MouseDown event is documented to be supported in the CF but doesn't actually work. Is there a way to use API calls to hook the mouse events and get messages sent to a MessageWindow without creating a native dll? Or is there a way to subclass the treeview to get this event to work? It works if I create a custom control that inherits from Control, but if I inherit for TreeView and try to override the onMouseDown method, it is ignored. I could build a new control from scratch, but it would be a lot of bother and I shouldn't have to just to get a documented feature to work as documented.     - Help with audio application on Dell Axim For the past two months I have been trying to resolve a problem that occurs only on the new Dell Axim (A05 ROM version). I have a sound application that listens to the microphone continuously and displays an analysis of that sound. While my application is running, if the "power" is turned off and back on, the stream of audio buffers to my application stops. Sometimes it starts up again at an apparent sample rate of 10% lower than normal. Usually it takes a soft reset to clear the condition. This problem can also be verified by interrupting a recording in the Pocket Notes program. What I would like to know is does anyone have a solution? I have written a minimal "Hello, world" applicaiton that demonstrates the problem by simply counting input buffers as they are returned. I would desparately like to know if anyone has written a continous-input sound application that can gracefully survive a power-cycle on the new Dell Axim.     - Emulator restarting desktop About 6 months ago, for some reason, executing the PocketPC 2002 emulator would restart my machine. There were a number of posts about this but I haven't yet seen a solution. I lived without using the emulator (debugging to an actual device was faster anyway) but then one day I happened to launch the emulator and it worked fine. Not sure what changed. I've been using the emulator without fail since then. However, yesterday, for no apparent reason, the problem started happening again. Doing a search for this problem yields a number of people with the problem but no apparent solution. I've tried everything I can think of inclduing doing a system restore back to a date when it was working. No luck. Am I missing something or is this still an unknown problem?     - Edit Control Streaming Response Time Device: Pocket PC 2002, iPaq 3600 I have an RS232 sniffer application written using pure Win32 and is streaming data into an Edit Control. The program runs well until the Edit Control starts to become overwhelmed with too much data. I have tested with various limits and at best, the control can handle ~8k of text data before performance issues begin to degrade the application. Anything above 32k and the Edit Control becomes unusable. I have logic which looks at how much text has been inputed, and once the limit is reached, I remove a 25% chunk from the beginning. So it continuosly wraps the entire data stream. Everytime it does this though, it uses too much processing time and performance suffers. So that is why I am forced to limit it to a very small receive window (~6k). But I would prefer to store more. I am also using SetDrawupdate to only update the Edit Control *after* the data has been inputed, and am calling the correct messages to accomplish the rest. Needless to say, the control is very slow to respond with too much data in it (~36k), and I believe I lose some of my streaming in the process. I can subclass the edit control but don't know what I can perform to speed up and relieve some of the handling of displaying the data. My preferred operation would be simply a single low-level call that appends new data to the end of the edit control. No multiple redraws, replace selections, or other crap. Apart from writing my own Edit Control (which I *really* don't want to do), are there other methods to improve the standard Edit Control performance? Some subclassing tips/tricks/hacks, anything that would improve its response time and allow it to handle more data more efficiently?     - never programmed but want to learn Hello all, I am interested in starting to program for my new dell axim 400 MHz. I have no info on programming but want to start. I bought a thing for getting started and it used embeded visual basics 3.0. I downloaded, and says that i need to start with a software platform windows ce for the pocket pc project, but all i have is windows ce formless project. I have also downloaded evc4 and sp2, microsoft pocket pc 2003 sdk, and also found a learn to build mobile apps from the microsoft page, but when i went to install it it asks for .net framework version 1.1.4322...I went to microsoft's website and downloaded dotnetfx. I just want to know if i'm on the right track or not. I'm pretty efficient with computers and have always wanted to start programming. Later, I'd like to start a webpage made for pda viewing.     - Forms disappearing... Hi there, this is a newbie question, but how would I create a main menu form and have this open new windows per button? Perhaps this helps to understand my question: I recently set up a new "mobile application" in Visual Basic NET, then modified form1 and checked my project to use this form on startup. > this worked as expected.     - setupapi.lib hoi, I need setupapi.lib to get the available COM ports. According to the msdn-article "Windows CE .NET WebCam, Part 2" its available and working in CE .NET. On the other hand in "Microsoft Windows CE .NET 4.2 - Common Windows CE Modules" is stated that setupapi is "not applicable." However, i can't find setupapi.lib in the sdk anyway. Does anyone know if its possible to use setupapi to find all COM ports in CE .NET? Maybe there's even an easier solution?     - Locate control in resource file Hi, The resource editor is not always fun, and so sometimes things are easier to change inside the resource file directely. Is there an easy way to select a control in the resource file and then jump to its entry in the resource file .rc ? Currently I try to look up the ID, so it is also found in the .rc file and then I double click it. But many controls can have the same ID, spread over different dialog windows. The the above method is more cumbersome. It just seems somehow it should be possible to select a control in the resource editor and then jump to its text entry in the .rc file.     - Disconnect/connect device from/to PC If the device is connected (inserted in cradle) to a PC I want to disconnect it for a while. Later I want to connect to PC again (without take the device up and insert in cradle). How could I do this? I found the RasHangUp function which seems to work fine to disconnect (I can't see the device in file explorer on PC and I get the "disconnect" sound on device). To connect I try to start repllog.exe but I get the ordinary "Connect To" message with info "Status: Connecting to Host" forever. Any suggestions how to solve something if this?     - emulator crashing windows XP Hello, I have bought the Forsberg/Sjostrum book, which looks like it's going to be exactly what I want, but I can't get started. I cannot get the eVT editor to run any forms at all, even the simplest ones. It works fine for putting controls onto forms and for writing code, but every time I click the run (play) button, I get a small grey window that says "loading remote connection" (for a second), then a millisecond flash of a screen that might look like a pocket pc, then black. The machine instantly crashes right out and restarts - every time. I am running the software off the Forsberg/Sjostrum CD, with Activesync 3.7 on Windows XP, and I have never had any such problems before. I am quite a beginner here, so it may be something trivial (do I have to load separate emulator software?)     - Are *.cpf files the correct way to configure pocketPCs? I have a pocket PC application and would like to provide my users with a single click recover path after a total loss of power. Basically I would like to accomplish something very much like the MindSweeper example included in the ppc 2003 SDK. I would like to copy a shortcut from the SD Card to the Start Menu folder and associate it with one of the buttons. I have modified setup.xml to reflect my application needs and followed the makecab procedure to create a *.cpf file, when I click on the file it dissappears but there is no evidence that the instructions it contained were executed (i.e. there is no change in the configuration). I have attempted to pass the xml to the configuration manager and have successfully set the registry value HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Shell/Keys/Keys/40c1, but it does not effect the behavior of the device. I am also bothered because this path is different than is described in the documentation but reflects the path I uncovered through a registry walk. Also, I can find no documentation on the syntax for the FileOperation configuration manager. I could copy the shortcut programatically but prefer to use the proscribed infrastructure. My question is, given that *.cpf files disappear after execution, requiring somekind of programatic intervention, is the xml configuration manager path the best way to accomplish my needs?     - call to DESKTOPTODEVICE fails during copy I have a VB application that creates a series of fairly big Access databases (around 2MB) and copies them to the handheld device using ActiveSync's DESKTOPTODEVICE API found in adofiltr.dll. My problem happens when copying more than 7 of these databases. Without explanation, the copy process fails with the message "The system cannot find the file specified" whith error code -2147024894. I found a document in the Microsoft site saying that this happens if the adoce files are not correctly installed in the handheld device. I tried reinstalling adoce but that did not help.     - EN_KILLFOCUS problem I am trapping EN_KILLFOCUS and EN_SETFOCUS to change the values in an entry field when a user enters or leaves an edit field. When the user enters, they may enter 500, when they exit, I replace that with $5.00. When they come back to it again, I replace it with 500, for ease of editing. The problem: For some fields I try to prevent the user from leaving the field if they put in an invalid value, such as a 'K' in a field that should be 'W' or 'L'. I do a 'beep', do an EM_SETSEL, and a SetFocus back to that field. What I am seeing, is that the next field, which would've received the focus, receives an EN_KILLFOCUS, without getting an EN_SETFOCUS first. Any ideas on how I can deal with this situation?     - Database Solution Hi, I currently have an EVC App that uses pocket access and ADOCE. I would like to move it to .NET and re-write it in C#. I would like to move away from ADOCE and pocket access, and it seems that microsoft is doing the same thing. What would you folks suggest for using as a DB? I need to store pictures in the database as well, and I would like to be able to use SQL, but that is not neccessary as long as I can still search for records.     - SDK 2002 Install error I am trying to install eMbedded Visual Tools on my machine and the install keeps erroring out when I get the the Pocket Pc 2002 SDK install. The error I am getting is: An Error occured calling "DllRegisterServer" in "C:\PROGRA~1\MIC604~1\EVB\VBCEDEM.DLL". (HRESULT = 8007007e) I have tried uninstalling it and re-installing it. My today DLL install works great on 2003, but fails on 2002: the plug-in
does not show up in the list. I suspect the registry poking is OK; that
would not have changed from 2002 to 2003, so perhaps the Self-Registering of
DLLs is different? Do I need to run regsvrce.exe during the install on
PPC2002?
