    - Behaviour of SetTimer I call SetTimer from my application to create a timer, which calls a callback function when it elapses. However I have discovered that the callback function is only evoked when either my application is the active thread, or when the active thread is changed (such as when a new program is opened, or a program is closed). When my program is running in the background and another thread is active, the callback function of the timer is not evoked, even after the timed has elapsed. Is there any way around this problem?     - WinMobileDb and Key fields I have a WinMobile database that I needed to add a new field to after configuring it in the vs2005 dataset.xsd. After adding the field I would like to use it like a secondary key to perform searches for records. I would like to still be able to search on the primary key fields also that were set up by vs2005.     - Mix MFC versions Hello. Is it safe, to mix more MFC versions in one application? It means that I am developing application in VS2005 (Pocket PC 2003 application) that offcourse uses MFC8U.dll. The application uses also some third-party libraries, which use MFCCE400.dll. Is it OK, or the application and all dependency libraries have to use the same version of MFC and MSVCRT?     - Sensors and PocketPC Hello, I would like to develop an application for Windows CE on a PocketPC... I have quite good knowledges on programming in C++ I also have good knowledges in electronics. But my program for WinCE needs a sensor : a hall effect sensor that send an impulse that I would like to use (using interruption) for measuring a duration I would to know if it is possible to do it with a PocketPC... My PocketPC is a HP2210 (it has a USB port and CF/MMC card) I haven't the finest idea of how (electronicaly) connect the sensor to the PocketPC, I also haven't the finest idea of how to design a driver for this.     - Creating a transparent Control Hi I would like to create a transparent Control in C#. I am creating a offscreenImage and use ImageAttributes backgroundAttr = new ImageAttributes(); backgroundAttr.SetColorKey(Color.Black, Color.Black); So that every black area in the offscreenImage is completely transparent. My only problem is, that the window manager is not redrawing the part of the parent window underneath my transparent control. If the parentWindow is changing the transparent part of my control remains as it was at the time i added it to the parentWindow.     - Porting a WinXP-DLL to WinCe Hello, I need to send data via USB host port on my Acer N30 with a program running on the PDA (no PC connected). I found libusb on http://libusb-win32.sourceforge.net for generic USB access. A C#-Wrapper is available. The libusb puts a libusb0.dll in Windows/System32 on my desktop PC, while the C#-Wrapper is in the Framework directory. Before I spend hours testing, I assume that using the very same libusb0.dll doesn't work on the ARM-CPU of the PocketPC because it's hardware dependent and the C#-Wrapper isn't. Do I need to re-compile libusb? Which Compiler can do that? I have Visual Studio 2005, but cannot find any other CPU-Option than x86 and x64. Can eMbedded Visual Tools do that?     - Signing corporate applications .. problem again Hi, According one of my previous post, I have to add certificates to stores in the device using an autorun.exe. using this autorun.exe, I added a custom corporate certificate in the Root, CA, SPC, Unpriviledge and Priviledge stores (not sure if all are required). Later in the execution of the autorun.exe process, I run wceload.exe /silent /noaskdest /delete 0 "mycabfile.cab" in order to deploy the app. This cab file is signed with the certificate that is added in the stores. However, when the wceload.exe command is ran, nothing happen and the ExitCode result of this execution is 0x80070005. If I manually execute the cab file, I get the warning prompt about the not-known publisher. If I accept to install the cab file here, and I run the autorun.exe again, the file installs this time, the exit code is 0 (ok). Theses clues let me think that even if my certificate is in the correct stores, it is still not recognized correctly... Does anyone have an idea how can I correct this ?     - changing autorun I created an old autorun.exe program for installing my apps some time ago. Since then, I have removed that application (using Remove Programs in Settings) and reinstalled it (Using Active Sync) with a new autorun.exe - this one has different, more relevant messages, and the program title has changed. However, when my autorun.exe messages show up, they are still the old autorun.exe messages! How do I wipe out this old version of autorun and make sure I'm using the current one?     - Troubles while deployin CF .Net 2.0 using autorun.exe Hi, We are providing a corporate application to our users using a storage card in which a autorun.exe is located. This autorun read a file and call several time wceload.exe to install .Net 2.0 SP1, Sql Mobile 3.0 and the app itself. This process works perfectly on a PPC 2003 device, but now, as we are changing hardware to WM5, it does not works anymore. In debug mode, I can see the CreateProcess function is correctly called using this command line : \windows\wceload.exe /noaskdest /noui /delete 0 /nouninstall "\storage card\NETCFv2.wm.armv4i.cab" When the command line is executed, the screen blinks white one time and the compact framework is not installed...     - monitor the status of outgoing connections Hi, i'd like to monitor outgoing connections. I used ConnectionManager's function ConnMgrQueryDetailedStatus. This works fine when I initiate the connection directly from the device (eg by surfing the web). When I use the device as a dial up modem all connections have the status disconnected despite the open connection. Any ideas? is this something specific to my device (MDA PRO) or to Windows Mobile (WM5). Is this different in WM6? Any help appreciated.     - How the built-in word completion works? Hi all, I am developing a program that does something depending on a character just before the caret. For example, if letter 'a' is before the caret, it should display a list of "About", "After", "Assume" etc. The program I am writing is a keyboard hook, so it is intended to process with any edit control in any application. Now I have a difficulty about getting the character. I am using EM_GETSEL to get the position of the caret, but there is no message for me to get the character. I only have the index of the character, so I have to get all text from it by using WM_GETTEXT, but it is not a good idea if they contain very many letters. I just want to get a special small range of the letters for not consuming much memory and cpu time. I found that the built-in word completion works smoothly for this thing, so there must be some other way to do the same thing, but I don't know how it works. Can anybody help me with my problems? Create one to four bitmap images for the button. 2.. Create a dialog template with an owner-draw button positioned where you want the bitmap button. The size of the button in the template does not matter. 3.. Set the button caption to a value such as MYIMAGE and define a symbol for the button such as IDC_MYIMAGE. 4.. In your application resource script, give each image created for the button an identifier constructed by appending a letter U, D, F, or X-for up, down, focused, and disabled-to the string used for the button caption in step 3. For the button caption MYIMAGE, for example, the identifiers would be "MYIMAGEU", "MYIMAGED", "MYIMAGEF", and "MYIMAGEX". You must specify the identifier of your bitmap within double quotes. Otherwise the resource editor assigns an integer to the resource, and MFC fails when loading the image. 5.. In your application's dialog class, derived from CDialog, add a CBitmapButton member object. 6.. In the OnInitDialog routine of the CDialog object, call the AutoLoad function of the CBitmapButton object, using as parameters the control identifier of the button and the CDialog object, this pointer.     - xscale and armv4i - reading from a binary errors I've written a program for an xscale 4.2 device. All coding was done in eVC++ 4.0. There are a few different compile options available, armv4 and armv4i. This same program is also used on a ppc2003 device with the armv4 sdk and works great. However I'm running into errors with both the armv4 and armv4i on my xscale device. The program uses a binary configuration file to run. This file is loaded into a buffer and then navigated. On the ppc2003 we made sure to word align the binary file- everything was padded out to a word. On the xscale running in debugger I'll get to certain points when navigating the binary file and will have garbage data. I suspect it has something to do with our word alignment. The binary file is fairly basic. It has a header section and then structures of data. The structures of data will contain types and then offsets for the data itself, like DWORD type DWORD offset -> pointer to DWORD somedata What's happening is all of the sudden I'll get an offset that is complete garbage and can no longer navigate. Is this due to something with the armv4i compressing the binary file and conflicting with our word alignment? Or is it perhaps something else? Thanks for your help.     - Audio mute when I use wireless stereo headset Hi, I use my software on HPC vs WM2005. The software intensity sends data to two devices over bluetooth COM ports. Also I use wireless stereo headset to send some voice messages from HPC to user. WAV files: 16bit 22kHz. Two Bluetooth COM port communication on 19200 bd. And often I hear audio mute while long playing sound (more than 2 seconds) is transmitted to headset. p.s. I use waveOut functions to play sound. p.s2.     - best test or "typical" WM5 Pocket PC device? Hi, New to WM5 development and would like to invest in an actual device (rather than solely depend on emulators) for testing out my apps. What are some of the more popular and widely used Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC devices out there? I'd like to get a device that is pretty "standard" for WM5 features and use that as a baseline for testing my app. Of course, that can't guarantee everything, but I'd like to at least hit most things. I also understand that it really depends on the target audience, but for now, I'd like to address the "mainstream" segment that purchases PDAs for business and personal use. Since I'm asking, if anyone could also tell me what the most popular WM5 Smartphones are as well, that would be helpful too. Based on what I've seen firsthand and searching around on Google, it currently seems that: - For WM5 PPC, the Dell Axim x51v and some iPaq (can't figure out which model) are more popular.     - C#2005 using DllImport to call CeRapiInvoke I am attempting to use RAPI functions in order to put a signed DLL on the device and call a function on it to return the device type string to the desktop. Unfortunately I have been unable to actually get this to work with C#. My DLL is a C++ signed DLL with the correct signature. Currently the error I am getting when I try to invoke it is 0x8007007E 'The specified module could not be found'. The DLL code itself works just fine in a test harness, but when I attempt to call it something fails when I try to write the output to the output buffer. I believe the problem lies in the Reflection calls to DllImport rather than the actual code. The DLL Is copied to the device properly and is in the right location. Dependency walker shows that the proper externs have been created and match the required signature for CeRapiInvoke.     - Painting a Progress Bar I've got an eVC4 application that downloads files. Informational messages are displayed to the User as text on the main form using OnPaint()'s CPaintDC::DrawText. This works great. I can display the User's last instruction just below the selection bar on the application's "rectangle," display progress or notes by using DT_CENTER, or display the information in status bar fashion using DT_BOTTOM. This seems to work better than using static text controls that I have to hide/show or send to the back/front whenever they are needed. Now, I'd like to include a progress bar. The list of controls available for forms in eVC4 does include a Progress control, but I would like to be able to draw one on the screen similar to the way I send text to the screen. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to do this? Preliminary idea: Create a transparent (or gray) rectangle with a black border based on a percentage of the available width, then (somehow) fill a percentage of the rectangle with yellow (my progress bar color). Finally, position it! How would I fill a portion of the rectangle (i.e. How would I fill 1/10th or 3/10ths, starting on the leftmost edge)? Is this a bad idea?     - diagnosing a bluetooth modem connection Hi all, I currently write my master's thesis in the field of diagnosis of mobile communication and did a lot of research on msdn and forums about the diagnosis possibilities in Windows and Windows mobile. Unfortunately I am still not sure if what I plan to do is technically feasible (in an acceptable period of time). OK, here's what I plan to do: In my setup a WM5 smartphone (AKU 0.1, MS Bluetooth stack) acts as a dialup modem for a laptop (running Windows XP with MS BT stack): On the PC, I'd like to monitor outgoing messages from the PC and the status of the BT stack on the PC. I want to do this independently of any application. Traffic monitoring works on a high level with winpcap (as it is TCP traffic) but I do not get outgoing traffic on the level of the Bluetooth stack. I get some status information using the functions of BluetoothAPIs.h, but I do not know what kind of connections are currently active (DUN, handsfree, ...). Information about RSSI (signal strength) and total sent/received bytes would also be valuable. On the mobile device, I'd like to monitor as well the stack status. Using RequestBluetoothNotifications, I get some basic info, but nothing about RSSI (I think this might work in WM6) and sent and received bytes. Is there any other way to get more status information out of the stack? Additionally I do not know at all if it is feasible to monitor the traffic either on the level of the BT stack or on the level of the modem. Any information about the messages that pass the modem would be really interesting, as the information about the messages (TCP sequence number, hash value, ...) could be used to synchronize events on both sides. Ideally I would want to make sure that the traffic also leaves the phone to the APN. I hope it became somehow clear what I'd like to do. I would highly appreciate if anybody (especially one of the MS people around in this forum) could give me an estimate if this is feasible at all - especially with the traffic monitoring on the mobile. And in case it is, point me to any resources or API functions that you think are useful. I would be very thankful. It is annoying for the uses to type on one side and listen on the other side. I would like to know how do I change this setting. The number of default devices shows only one.     - WM2003/WM5 Start Menu - maximum number of items ? How do I find out the *maximum* number of items allowed to be displayed in my device's Start Menu ? Is this figure stored in the registry somewhere...? (I can't find it !!) Searching around the internet, some sites report that WM2003 devices will always just allow upto 9 shortcuts, but some of my test devices (plus the WM2003 emulator) only allow upto 7. And who knows how many items WM5 & WM6 devices & Smartphones will allow ! but still at impasse y the reset of date and time ocurs to the factory
defaults after few hundred warm boots.
