    - ntext column with 256 chars does not ger synch Hello all, I have an SQL table with a ntext column. That column contains data with 256 characters and more. I have also a pocket pc with SQL CE 2.0 with the same table/column and an ntext datatype. Everytime I sync and the data (SQL server) in the column has 255 charaters and less the sync will work successfully. This same column with 256 characters and more will not get sync on my pocket pc 2003. The row will get created but no data for that column. Initialy, on the SQL server, my column was a nvarchar(2000), i thought that could conflict with SQL CE because nvarchar datatype has a max character of 255. But the result didn't change. I also ran an update statement on the SQL CE DB to make sure the column could hold more than 255 characters and I was successfull since it's an ntext. The queries for the sync are being done through http. Could that be the issue? Is there some sort of configuration that I missed? NOTE: I'm using appforge. Any help would be appreciated. It says: "The Windows Media Player Control for Pocket Internet Explorer is available for download on the Microsoft.com Web site, packaged as a .cab file." I can't find this control. I wish to play spoken text with synchronized captions. WMP on Pocket PC doesn't do this. Therefore I wish to embed the WMP as a control in PIE and catch the captions as events.     - multiproject solution - deployment problems Hi there, I use VS.NET 2003 to develop pocket PC applications using Pocket Framework. I have no problems with Pocket Framework. My problem is the solution that has two projects: a class library and a main module. I set the project dependency from main module to the class library and everything compiles ok, I can see an executable and a library in /bin folder. [I use the same technique in WinForms development for 2 years] However, when I try to deploy the solution to the emulator or the PocketPC device, I face two problems: 1) I am asked where to deploy the class library and then I am asked again where to deploy the main executable. I wish I was asked once and both modules were deployed in the same place. 2) the class library is not deployed at all. by default it was set to be deployed to another directory than the main module (properties/Deploy). no matter if I change that setting to the same directory as the main module, the library is not deployed onto the device. I found there are no problem if I do the same things but have little size of rgProps array (just contain one integer and one string). I suspect it is cause by memory allocation of rgProps.     - Corrupted Categories for Contacts? All of a sudden I can no longer view my contacts by some categories on my IPAQ 1945? Pocket PC ver 4.20.1081. I have 12 contact categories. If I go to Contacts I can still narrow my list of contacts to the six categories that initially display. However if I try to select "More.." to view my other categories, the left portion of my display (where the "Categories" would normally display) is blank and the contacts stop working until I reboot. I tried rebooting with same results. My PC still has all my contacts and can narrow my contacts by all my categories just fine. Syncronization works OK.     - Show symbols in a Win32 application I would like to display a "sigma" symbol in my Win32 application built with Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0. I found the corresponding UNICODE number is 03C3, which was equal to 963 in decimal, then put it to the following codes. However, the "sigma" symbol was not displayed correctly.     - Uploading large files from an iPAQ I'm trying to upload a large binary file from an iPAQ, but am getting out-of-memory exceptions when I try to convert the byte array containing the data to a string in order to include it in the StringBuilder object which represents the http (multipart/form-data mimetype) request. The code I'm using to read and convert the data is below, and the exception occurs in ascii.GetString. The file is about 9mb, and I've got plenty of free memory (according the system monitor in the iPAQ, I've got 38.64MB free storage, and 61.85MB free program memory). Does anyone have any suggestions?     - WaveHDR buffer reuse in WaveInAddBuffer Hi, Just wonder whether the buffer can be reused to call WaveInAddBuffer after WaveInPrepareHeader. It means after the buffer content is copied out, this WaveHDR is reused to call WaveInAddBuffer directly and put this buffer back in the queue, otherwise, you have to release this WaveHDR, then alloc another WaveHDR and call WaveInPrepareHeader.     - Syncing with remote db Hi We have an access db running on a windows 2003 server. The server is connected to the internet via ADSL. I would like a windows mobile 2003 based vb.net app to sync data from the server, ideally via gprs, from time to time, the pda and the server have the same info. What is a good way to go about doing the data sync between the pda and the server? Do we have to upsize the server access db to sql server before it can sync with pda sql server ce, or can we keep the access app as it is?     - Pinvoke MissingMethodException I'm trying to get a very simple usage of pInvoke to work on .Net Compact framework. I have an unmanaged C++ dll using embedded vc++ 4.0, and a C# app using Visual Studio for a PocketPC 2003 target device. The C++ dll shows my simple function exported in dumpbin. I declared it as void GetVersion (LPTSTR pVersion); Dumpbin reports it as void __cdecl GetVersion (unsigned short *); On the iPAQ my app exe is in /Windows, as is my.dll. In C# I define it, as per several books instructions, as: [DllImport("my.dll")] static extern void GetVersion([Out] StringBuilder Version); In the C# app I call it like this: StringBuilder s = new StringBuilder(80); GetVersion(s); ////fails here string sVersion = s.ToString(); In the debugger it fails on the call to GetVersion with a "MissingMethodException". This looks so incredibly simple yet it doesn't work - what to do from here? Is this a can't-find-the-dll problem, or not matching the function signature problem, or something else entirely? Aside #1 - is there a way to debug the C++ dll at the same time as debugging the C# app, using the respective IDEs? Aside #2 - when I tried using IntPtr instead of StringBuilder, again using the books' samples to first use IntPtr ptr = Marshal.AllocHGlobal(80), the compiler says there's no such member of Marshal.     - Howto make a Notification Balloons notify a DLL? I'm currently modifying the sample MapiRule (which intercepts sms messages) to send a notification balloon with a link. I would like the link to pass back the control back to my dll (mapirule.dll) for further processing. I'm using SHNotificationAdd to pop the ballon and SHNotificationRemove to take it away. However I cant find how to get feedback from the ballon. There seems to be a SHNOTIFICATIONDATA.hwndSink to notify a window, however I'm not sure how to do this with a dll. Any ideas?     - Database Development I have built an Excel application with considerable VBA, and I want to build a functionally identical application for the Pocket PC - from what I gather, the pocket Excel program does not include the same functions etc. as the PC version - should I be looking at a VB.NET database application instead?     - PPC2003 NDIS IM for WAN A while ago I got an IM driver working for PPC2002. It intercepted LAN (between TCP and network adapter) and WAN (between AsyncMac and PPP) traffic and allowed me to modify/drop packets as needed. That all works wonderfully. A little while ago I started a port to PPC2003. Managed to get the LAN version working ok but am having a slight problem with the WAN version. I suppose a starting question is has anyone else done this, is it possible? There are a couple of posting from a while back where people have been doing it (and had problems but no email saying Eureka, it works !!) I think the problem I have is the packets aren't getting up to PPP (the protocol above where I hook into the network stack). The basic registry settings I am using are ... [AsyncMac1/Parms] "ProtocolsToBindTo" str: "passthru" [Passthru1/Parms] "ProtocolsToBindTo" str: "PPP" With these settings AsyncMac seems to bind to my Passthru driver ok. An interesting thing here is that if I make these entries a Multi-String then AsyncMac doesn't bind at all. If anyone has any ideas about what I've missed or not done it'd be much appreciated.     - C DLL that outputs a string Good Morning, I am writing a DLL that is declared like that : extern "C" __declspec(dllexport) TESTDLL_API string fnTestDLL(void); I need the "extern C", but the declaration doesn't compile. I cannot use a C++ string class (as it extern C)... My goal is to use a simple data type and not pointer. Does any one have an idea or a sample ?     - Autorun using Storage and SD cards problem Hi, We are currently trying to implement a failsafe mechanism to automatically reinstall our application when the battery of our XDA II runs out completely. We use the autorun mechanism combined with the built-in permanent store (Storage) of the device. We create a 2577 dir there, put the autorun.exe and the cab files and do a hard reset. The application gets installed and everything looks fine. However, when we try to install the same application by means of the autorun mechanism using, this time, the SD card the installation fails. It appears as if inserting the SD card had no effect whatsover. The autorun is not triggered no matter what application we are trying to install. We tried a soft reset, different SD cards, diferrent cab files and even diferent autorun.exe. Nothing. The weird part is that if we do a hard reset whithout having any autorun.exe in Storage\2577 then the SD autorun mechanism works as expected. Only after putting the files autorun files in Storage and doing a hard reset do SD installations start to fail. I have read some posts on microsoft.pocketpc.developer regarding this problem but no explanation/solution is suggested. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Nick.     - Problem with evb3.0 Hi, I have a problem using pocket pc 2002 and evb 3.0. I'm using a program which has no error when I compile it. But when the download on the pocket is finished, I have the following error : "ITCAXBarCode1 ({4EF30D2-ECA9-11D3-8182-00500462DFFE}) could not be created". Do you know how I can solve this problem ? I set the PPC 2003 Emulator to use Virtual Switched networking (the Test was
successful).

I then go in the emulator, connect to a share on my local PC and select a
file to copy.
When I paste the file in a folder local to the emulator (ie: My Device) I
get a "Bad network path. ..." error.

How can I solve this problem???

I used to do this process using NAT but I need Virtual Switched networking
because my application has problems to receive data over winsock due to NAT.
