    - Problem with PocketPC ActiveSync Hello, I am facing a problem with ActiveSync. When I connect the USBA cable from PocketPC to PC I am abl eto see "Window CE USB Devices: Microsoft USB Sync" in Device Manager. Whne ActiveSync tries to connect to target there is a message "Cannot open the connection "USB". This connection is no longer valid or does not exist. Select a different connection and try again." I have developed a application that accesses files and calculates information based on the data received. In addition, the data is animated on screen. I have only tested this application using an emulator. In general, I am looking to gain confidence that the application runs well using the platform? As the target device is a PDA mobile phone running under Windows I was wondering if anyone has experience of testing applications under this environment! The questions I have: 1. How can I measure the usage of the application resources whilst the application is running? 2. How can I get a test application to capture and send key inputs to the application and read of results of operations? 3. Can I automate the testing of this to simulate operation of the application, test the operation of the mobile device? 4. Can I capture the results of these operations to a file? 5. Is there any software out there that allows me to achieve my aims? If so, can anyone recommend some test suites. 6. Is there any free software I can use to automate testing in general...?     - plug-and-play enumerator Hi, I have developed an application for reading data from a chip card with type of 1 ISO-sized slot ("credit card" format). For this purpose I use a card reader from pro-active. (SpringCard-CF) Normally my application works ok and there is no problem. I have a problem after sleep mode on PDA for more then an hour. The look like my device (the card reader) is gone after sleep mode for more then an hour and I can not connect to my device any more, event I terminate my application and run it again. The only ways I can get the application to work again is unplugging the card reader from my PDA and plug it again to PDA.     - Windows ScrollThumb Problem Hello I'm using Win32 API - Visual C and use and catch messages from scrollbars that i use with my main window. The problem is that once i move the scroll thumb it jumps back to 0 when i release it. Why is that? How can this be fixed?     - Old Topic: Pocket PC emulator slow on startup I saw this topic in the archives and since the message is more than 60 days old, couldn't comment on this. The original thread suggests that since TCP/IP is used for comunication between the computer and emulator, prescence of a firewall could be responsible for the emulator running slowly. Deployment of a simple native app (even with the emulator running) takes more than a minute on an average. .NET CF takes close to 10 mins (or more) to installed. .NET CF apps take 2+ mins to start. There are times when there's as much as a 10 second delay in debug mode when I move from one line to the next (F10). I'm using Visual Studio 2005 and the WM5.0 SDK. My development computer has XP firewall enabled, on top of which I'm behind a company firewall. Is this the reason behind the sluggish perfomance of the emulator? Even when I run it with Ctrl-F5, the processor usage spikes to 100% frequently. The machine has an AMD Athlon XP 1700+ processor with 1 GB RAM. I'm sure the emulator can run faster, is there anything I can do to speedup the emulator? Do I need admin privileges of any sort to do so? Regards, Abhijit.     - WM5 and later... certificate strategy ? Hi, Our company have many mobile users out of office. They are using PPC 2003 device with a complex deployment mechanims we have built. This mechanims is used to remotly deploy applications on the device based on some business rules. The applications are deployed using custom cab and cpf files. The next wave of users will use devices based on windows mobile 5.0 (and later 6.0, etc.) which have a policy for deploying applications (cab files must be digitally signed with a certificate). The problem is that the devices only have two trusted certificates (ms' one and the mobile operator one). Since cab files are often created, we can't rely on the mobile operator to sign all of our cab files (heavy and log process... up to several days) that's why we would like to add our own certificate in the trusted authorities on the device. Do you have any advise how to reach our goal ? Note that the devices are shipped with a SD storage card which contains an autorun.exe file. This autorun is used to deploy the global application and is written in C++. I'm thinking about using this autorun.exe file (always executed) to install programmatically the certificate in the correct store, but I don't know where to start... Thanks in advance for any help.     - NAVMAN PiN 570 Problems Powering up GPS Unit Programmatically. I just purchased up a bargain priced NAVMAN PiN 570, running PPC2003 and hoped to develop some GPS applications. The trouble is, I can't figure out how to programmatically switch the GPS on (although there is a control panel applet to do so). Also, if I do switch on with the control panel, my software eventually gets a fix and valid data, but the left hand GPS led continues to blink. I looked at controlling the LED's with NLedGetDeviceInfo and friends, however although reporting 2 LED's, if I try to get details of LED nubmer 1 using NLED_SETTINGS_INFO_ID, it changes the data in the structure, and reports details of LED 0. Has anyone got any hints on how to go about powering up the GPS receiver, and setting the fix LED to constantly on after receiving a fix? And if so, would you share the steps you took to get it to work? Where did you get the filters from? I originally used the Mediaplayer OCX, but it has some quirks -- notably its not working with the Samsung Blackjack, and I'm getting flickering/inability-to-stretch on Axim X51v; So i decided to try directshow. I can get uncompressed avi's to play in directshow; but I haven't found any thread that positively says they were able to play wmv files.     - Pocket PC service Hi All: I wanted the program started when the system boots. And known that implement it as a service could accomplish that I tried a demo (http://www.pocketpcdn.com/articles/services.html) which will be dispaly a messagebox when the system boots but with no luck: I put the demo dll in to Windows folder and manually create the according registry entries under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Services\MyServ" then reboot the device but with no message box pops up. Is there something I've missed? In addition how's the registry gonna be created first in order to let service.exe start the thread when the program ready to release, create a package which will do that? Is it the only way?     - ActiveSync Issues on developing a usb driver. I am developing a USB function driver for Pocket PC 2005(Phone Edition). The device communicate with the desktop through RNDIS function class. There are 2 problems after ActiveSync connected. 1. When select Add/Remove Programs item from tools menu, Sometime it can retrieve data, and give a list of installed program, but most of all, it prompts "Unable to retrieve the mobile device information. Please reconnect and try again". 2. When click the "Explore" button, the folders in the device can be showed in the explorer at the first time, but when you close the explorer, then click the "Explore" button again, there is nothing listed in the new explorer. There is a solution for PCs using COM Ptrs, IHTMLFormElement and IHTMLDocuments...but these interfaces are not found in embedded systems.     - Aaaaarghhh!!! Drawing a circle? How difficult can it be to draw a circle and a couple of lines in VS 2005 VB.net??????? It was so much easier when I could just select a tool and draw them at design time! This has got me really frustrated, and feeling pretty stupid. All I want to do is to display a circle on a pocket PC screen (WM5) have it intersected with a horizontal and vertical line so that it looks like the cross hairs on a gun sight. I then want a smaller crosshair in the middle that can be moved around by means of four buttons, one each for up, down, left and right. Each time a button is clicked I want the small crosshair to move .01mm in the corrosponding direction. The large crosshair will always remain stationary, thus referencing the centre of the circle I'm a real novice programmer and this is driving me mad. In the past the Pocket PC program was compiled using evc3 and the WinCE was created and compiled using evc4. I have just had to rebuild my development computer and I can't compile either one of the projects. (I can't seem to get all the pieces together!). Anyway, I tried to open the PocketPC project (evc3) in VS2005 put it wouldn't compile there either. wcesock.h was missing.     - Accessing System Tray Icons Here's what I'm trying to do: I've got a PocketPC device which has a particular (third party) application loaded, and it has an icon which is displayed in the System Tray (lower right corner); the app uses this icon to display the app's status. I'm writing an app which needs to run in full screen, to disallow end-user access to the Start Button, etc. "Kiosk Mode." My customer wants my app to show the third-party app's icon, that way if that app's status changes, they can see its status without accessing the Start Menu.     - Visual Studio 2005 ServicePack 1 destroys release builds for WinCE 5 PocketPC I have a project that I've been developing for many years and various CE platforms. It was running without any problems on WinCE 5 PocketPC devices as built by Visual Studio 2005 and Win Mobile 5 PocketPC SDK. It uses MFC and is native C++. When built properly the executable is about 985kB. After installing Service Pack1 the project builds to the size of 887kB and fails on a device (when opening dialogs like property sheets...). Debug version runs just fine on the Visual Studio emulator. Trying to run the SP1 built release version on the emulator generates a microsoft error announcement for gwes.exe with a suggestion to send report to Microsoft. I've checked this on three different machines with VS 2005 SP1 and three without SP1. Uninstalling VS 2005 and WinMobile 5 SDK and re-installing them without SP1 solves the problem.     - Distinguish Palm vs Pocket PC over Infrared? Does anyone know how to distinguish between a Palm and a Pocket PC over IR? During discovery, I can get the IRDA_DEVICE_INFO structure and it has device name (which is user configurable -- won't work). But it also has irdaDeviceHints1 and irdaDeviceHints2. Are these standard or fairly standard on PDA's? I get 0x82 and 0x20 for Palms and 0x92, 0x24 for two Pocket PC's and 0x82, 0x24 for the other PPC. Hello,

I am facing a problem with ActiveSync. When I connect the USBA cable
from PocketPC to PC I am abl eto see "Window CE USB Devices: Microsoft
USB Sync" in Device Manager. Whne ActiveSync tries to connect to target
there is a message "Cannot open the connection "USB". This
connection is no longer valid or does not exist. Select a different
connection and try again."
On PocketPC I am not able to find any other connection. What could be
the reason?
Is it an issue with PC side or Target side?
