    - Timeout accessing Host from the Emulator I am trying to use the Emulator to test an application that uses merge replication. I am following the approach used in the Mobile Line of Business appliction included in the WM 6 developers resource kit and at the moment I am having hassles getting the network check of the application to behave on the emulator. To check that replication is potentially possile a http request is sent to http:\\192.64.92.1\SQLMobile\sqlcesa30.dll and the expectation is that a response will indicate that things are OK to go. The http request is timing out for some reason. I can access the URL from my host system and from the emulator I am able to access web pages that are external to my host system. I am just curious why the emulator cannot access this resource on the host. Am I incorrect in expecting to be able to do this testing? thanks pete Tag: Possible to activeSync certificate store?     - How to disable power button turning off the backlight on Pocket PC? As you may know, press and hold the power button will turn off the backlight on most pocket PCs. Once the backlight is turned off that way, the only way to turn the backlight on is to press and hold the power button again or do a soft-reset. This causes some problems for some ordinary users: they accidentally press and hold the power button and turn the backlight off but do not know how to turn it back on. So, I want to disable this feature on the iPaq hx22xx series , that is, make the power button turn on/off the device only. Some Pocket PCs like Dell X51 has this as a option under Settings, which makes me believe that the setting is in the registry.     - Mobile applications are unicode, why file explorer not showing UTF16 files? I am puzzled about UNICODE on mobile devices. I assumed common Windows Mobile applications to be double byte UNICODE aware. However, when I browse files with non-ascii names, they show up as squares. I have the corresponding fonts in \windows\fonts, those file names are UTF-16, why isn't file explorer displaying them correctly? Yes my device is English version but I fail to see how os code page comes into play... I'd love to see someone explain (in reasonable details). Thanks alot in advance!     - Native Exception c0000005 error help please HI Using VS2005 and VB for HPC development I now am getting Native errors occuring when I get data from the database. It appears to happen after so many reads from the database. In searching the MS Newsgroups I see others have encountered this error but I did not find an exact resolution to their problem.     - How do I install windows CE on a PDA? Hi- I'm new to the embedded world, but have a lot of computing experience, and I'm having some troubles.     - How to leveraging Pocket outlook UI in Plugin Off late i am playing with Windows Mobile 5.0 sdk apis especially with apis in PocketMobile namespace. As long a what i understand, these apis can get me all the objects of outlook like contacts, tasks etc and i and leverage this information to build my custom application that can be called as addin to outlook. However I am interested in knowing whether it is possible to leverage the UI of outlook i.e. basically placing my controls on contact listing form or any other window that is used by outlook. The only api that i found was ChooseContactDialog which brings up outlook UI from my application. I want to write a plugin that can be as some widget in contacts so that when user uses it he feels that he is working with outlook and not with a separate application.     - Pocket Outlook Database After ActiveSync ran to sync a calendar with 6000+ entries, the target WM5 device is, er, full! So, that calendar is probably not appropriate for the device (ho-hum). To cut a long story short, what will happen if I delete the (equivalent of the) .PST file on the device? Where would I find the PST file? Alternately, if I delete all the items from PC/Outlook then resync, how do I reclaim the space on the device? (Does it happen automatically?) I'm struggling to get used to the file system on the device, could some kind soul point me to a generic overview of the filesystem.     - Documentation on dropped features in WinMo? Hi, I don't want to sound like whining, but a few days into the developement of WinMo app, I find the most frustrating thing is the lack of documentation on features that were supported in Win32 but dropped in WinMo. For example, owner draw combo boxes and list boxes (hmmmm... not sure, but seems to be so).     - Backing up Geotrust Code Signing Certs I signed up with Geotrust last year to do M2M code signing, and all was well for a while. Then just recently, I tried to do another code signing and found that the Administrative Cert (the one known only by Geotrust) was no longer on my computer. I was unable to download the Cert again from Geotrust until I had contacted them and explained my situation. Then then enabled another download for me. I must have done a system restore at some point and accidentally gotten rid of that Geotrust Cert. But that got me thinking, why not back up the Cert? Well, I tried, but I found that the Geotrust Administrative Ceritificate is marked so that the private part of the key is not exportable. But I would need the private part of the key too in order to re-import that Cert. Is there any way of protecting against a system crash?     - MFC ScrollView drawing problem Hello I built a MFC Pocket PC 2003 application with the appropriate wizzard in VS 2005. Instead of the CView base class I use CScrollView. Now, drawing (in the emulator) doesn't work properly when sliding the scrollbars.     - Remove particular call from non answered calls list Hi all, I've just implemented a simple filter to block some imcoming calls from a specified caller ID. After the unwanted call is intercepted, blocked and dropped (using lineDrop() function), a new "call no responded" item appears in the list of all the missing calls. Is there a way to avoid this? What I mean is if there is a way to avoid to insert this specific call in the list of all the missing ones, or alternatively to remove from the list.     - Compact Framework 2.0 installer failing on Vista Hi, When I run the .NET Compact Framework installer on VIsta for Business when UAC is enabled I receive an "invalid setup file" error from Application Manager and the installation aborts.     - Decoding WMV on Windows CE 5.0 Hi, I've read a bunch of other posts, confirming my observation that on Windows CE 5.0 we only have an MP3 Decoder DMO and WMV *Encoder* DMO. This goes in hand with my inability to load WMV files with IGraphBuilder::RenderFile. So, my questions are: 1. My final goal is to decode a single (thumbnail) frame from a video file (which WMP supports). Is there a WMP API to do it? 2. Surprisingly I could load AVI files with IGraphBuilder::RenderFile, even though AVI files don't have a DMO, so maybe I can construct a WMV pipeline as well by using some component manually? -- (If I could, then writing an output filter to dump frames to image files would be easy.)     - Blocking waiting message box ? Hi, In an autorun.exe I wrote, I perform several operations, including installing the compact framework using wceload.exe /silent command line. Since I do not want the user to be able to neither cancel the installation, nor choose the path, I use the /silent switch. This is working but there is no visual feedback to the user that something happens.     - Tool bar to hold many buttons Hi, My app needs to have a main menu, and few tool bar buttons with drop-down menus. As the push style buttons does not display context menu I'm using dropdown style buttons, which occupy double the space that a push button occupies. So, I'm unable to see all the buttons on the tool bar, where the space for one on the right most is covered by SIP icon. I need to show exactly 7-8 buttons, where apart from main menu and SIP icon only the first 4 drop-down style buttons are shown. Can any one suggest what I need to do to support some sort of scrolling for the tool bar, so that I can be able to access all the buttons on the tool bar??     - Handling double click event in tree view Hi, I need to identify double-click events on the tree view nodes and display another form.     - Media Player problem in windows explorer mobile I am developing an application that needs to play an audio with some synchronized images using Internet Explorer Mobile. My pocket PC works with Windows Mobile 5.0 and WMP 10. The application already works on Windows XP. I can play the audio and synchronize the images. I am not able to modify the playing sequence and I cannot jump to the next slide or repositioning the player cursor. What I found is that Media Player doesn't generate the ScriptCommand event and the CurrentPosition property seems to be read only.     - Behaviour of SetTimer I call SetTimer from my application to create a timer, which calls a callback function when it elapses. However I have discovered that the callback function is only evoked when either my application is the active thread, or when the active thread is changed (such as when a new program is opened, or a program is closed). When my program is running in the background and another thread is active, the callback function of the timer is not evoked, even after the timed has elapsed. Is there any way around this problem?     - WinMobileDb and Key fields I have a WinMobile database that I needed to add a new field to after configuring it in the vs2005 dataset.xsd. After adding the field I would like to use it like a secondary key to perform searches for records. I would like to still be able to search on the primary key fields also that were set up by vs2005.     - Sensors and PocketPC Hello, I would like to develop an application for Windows CE on a PocketPC... I have quite good knowledges on programming in C++ I also have good knowledges in electronics. But my program for WinCE needs a sensor : a hall effect sensor that send an impulse that I would like to use (using interruption) for measuring a duration I would to know if it is possible to do it with a PocketPC...     - Creating a transparent Control Hi I would like to create a transparent Control in C#. I am creating a offscreenImage and use ImageAttributes backgroundAttr = new ImageAttributes(); backgroundAttr.SetColorKey(Color.Black, Color.Black); So that every black area in the offscreenImage is completely transparent. My only problem is, that the window manager is not redrawing the part of the parent window underneath my transparent control. If the parentWindow is changing the transparent part of my control remains as it was at the time i added it to the parentWindow.     - Porting a WinXP-DLL to WinCe Hello, I need to send data via USB host port on my Acer N30 with a program running on the PDA (no PC connected). I found libusb on http://libusb-win32.sourceforge.net for generic USB access. A C#-Wrapper is available. The libusb puts a libusb0.dll in Windows/System32 on my desktop PC, while the C#-Wrapper is in the Framework directory. Before I spend hours testing, I assume that using the very same libusb0.dll doesn't work on the ARM-CPU of the PocketPC because it's hardware dependent and the C#-Wrapper isn't. Do I need to re-compile libusb? Which Compiler can do that? I have Visual Studio 2005, but cannot find any other CPU-Option than x86 and x64. Can eMbedded Visual Tools do that?     - Signing corporate applications .. problem again Hi, According one of my previous post, I have to add certificates to stores in the device using an autorun.exe. using this autorun.exe, I added a custom corporate certificate in the Root, CA, SPC, Unpriviledge and Priviledge stores (not sure if all are required). Later in the execution of the autorun.exe process, I run wceload.exe /silent /noaskdest /delete 0 "mycabfile.cab" in order to deploy the app. This cab file is signed with the certificate that is added in the stores. However, when the wceload.exe command is ran, nothing happen and the ExitCode result of this execution is 0x80070005. If I manually execute the cab file, I get the warning prompt about the not-known publisher. If I accept to install the cab file here, and I run the autorun.exe again, the file installs this time, the exit code is 0 (ok). Theses clues let me think that even if my certificate is in the correct stores, it is still not recognized correctly... Does anyone have an idea how can I correct this ?     - changing autorun I created an old autorun.exe program for installing my apps some time ago. Since then, I have removed that application (using Remove Programs in Settings) and reinstalled it (Using Active Sync) with a new autorun.exe - this one has different, more relevant messages, and the program title has changed. However, when my autorun.exe messages show up, they are still the old autorun.exe messages! How do I wipe out this old version of autorun and make sure I'm using the current one? Hi,

I have a smartcard reader and a ppc cradled to a pc. I need to insert
a smartcard to access the server and its SSL enabled websites. In the
pc, I am able to access the SSL enabled websites but not in the ppc. A
self-signed certificate is present in the smartcard which allows
access to the server.

Is it a must to install the certificate into the ppc in order for it
to access the SSL enabled websites? How do I access SSL enabled
websites in the ppc while it is cradled to the pc?
I understand that IE automatically detects the certificate in the
smartcard and that's why it is able to access the websites.

Is it possible to activeSync the certificate store?

There is no problem accessing normal websites starting with http
instead of https.
