I installed "Microsoft Pocket PC 2003 SDK.msi" and I use MS Visual
Studio .NET 2003 for development. When I create a smart device apps,
VS.NET 2003 lets me choose to target PocketPC or Win CE.NET.

When I choose to create a PocketPC app., the PocketPC2002(!) emulator
will be started when debugging. Is there a PocketPC2003 emulator, or
shout I choose Win CE.NET? When I choose this second option a Win
CE.NET emulator is started but with a larger screen. Of course I can
change this, but is this a good work around? And can I run this app.
on my PocketPC with "Windows Mobile for PocketPC 2003"?

To summarise; what should I do to develop a PocketPC application for
"Windows Mobile for PocketPC 2003" in Visual Studio .NET 2003 with
"Microsoft Pocket PC 2003 SDK.msi"?

Thanks,

Jules Hoppenbrouwers

Neil,

Thank you for your reaction. But when I start a Smart Device
Application with VS.NET 2003 and target Pocket PC, I can only choose
between Pocket PC Device and Pocket PC 2002 Emulator. I cannot find
other 2003 emulators.

Also: in tools > options > device tools > devices, I can select Pocket
PC of Win CE.NET via a dropdown box. When I select Pocket PC I can
choose between Pocket PC Device or Pocket PC 2002 Emultor. And when I
choose Win CE, I can choose between Win CE.NET device or Win CE.NET
emulator! The Win CE.NET emulator is new since I installed "Microsoft
Pocket PC 2003 SDK.msi", but no Pocket PC 2003 emulators where
installed (as far as I can see).

Maybe I have to set some settings after installing the SDK?

Thanks,

Jules Hoppenbrouwers

Jules,

It sounds like the correct SDK isn't installed. Just to make absolutely sure
you have the right one installed download the SDK from the following link
and run it. If it asks you to repair the installation, do that anyway. If
you have the SDK installed correctly the target device will just be there in
the dropdown.

Neil,

Thanks again for your quick response.

To response on your message:
- I installed the correct SDK. To be sure I checked you URL.
- Then I reïnstalled it and choose for the repair option. Halfway this
installation the following messagebox popped up:
--> VBScript
Failed to initialize property tag

When I clicked <OK>, the installation continued, and seemed to finish
ok. Now I come the point as I put in my first message; I can see new
Win CE .NET emulators in VS.NET 2003, but I can't see PocketPC 2003
emulators, only the 2002-version.

So I'm confused what kind of application I'm developing when I choose
for a Smart Device and target PocketPC: will this target PPC2002 or
PPC2003?

Thanks,

Jules Hoppenbrouwers

Can anybody tell me want went wrong with the installation of the
PocketPC2003 SDK when the following message appears during the
installation:
title messagebox: VBScript
message: Failed to initialize property tag

The installation however seemed to finish good, after clicking the
<ok>-button for this messagebox. How can I see in VS.NET 2003 if the
right SDK is installed? I think VS.NET 2003 has the PPC2002 emulator
for default. I'd like to upgrade to the PPC2003 SDK!
