Hi,

The pocket pc have is having 8 shortcuts items by default and when I
try to copy a news .lnk file to Windows/Start Menu folder it disappears
immedialely after copy ( I think due to restriction of only 8 items,
don't know which settings)

I need to add a new shortcut even if I have to remove an existing menu.
Can I do it through a package .inf file. or can I remove the
restriction of 8 menu items somehow. Running on Windows Mobile 2003 SE.

TIA,
Sanjeev Kumar

There are 8 spots for fixed shortcuts. There are a few remaining slots for
the MRU ("most recently used") applications and get assigned dynamically by
the OS.

You *could* create a custom setup.dll in your CAB that deletes something to
make room for yours, but that's bound to cause problems unless you know for
sure that your user won't care about other apps.

This question gets asked in various ways every few weeks. So a search
with google might turn up useful info, but I can't think of a good
search string offhand.

The "extra" shortcuts are moved to the Program sub menu. I suggest
installing your shortcut there, rather than fighting to install it
directly in the Start menu. Yes, users will have to click one extra
time. But your shortcut will always be in the same place even if a
user adds another application or (re)installs an application that
insists on being in the Start menu.
