    - Number of com ports available Hi, I am currently developing a virtual com port driver for windows ce. My question is why there is a limit on the number of ports you can create, that is number 0-9. I can understand this limit when it comes to hardware issues with IRQ etc, but is there any way to bypass this limit when i only do virtual com ports? This process takes around 5 seconds on a Windows Mobile 4.2 device, but on a Windows Mobile 5.0 device (i-mate K-JAM), it takes like a whole minute. Any idea why?     - Expendible Datagrid with Master/Detail relation Hi All, I am looking for some code to create a datagrid with Master-Detail relationship binding for PPC using VS 2003. I cannot find a SetDataBinding or DataMember property of Datagrid for .Net Compact Framework platform.     - 2 RAPI Question with Windows Mobile 5.0 Hello, Question 1: With rapi syncing to a new Dell AXIM x51v (Windows mobile conduit) I am unable to use CeMountDBVol(&foo, lpszWdbName,OPEN_ALWAYS) It always returns fails and CeGetLastError(); returns ERROR_INVALID_PARAMETER; The same code works fine againts an emulator and fine on older versions PPC 2003 etc. So im pretty sure its not actually invalid parameters. Question 2: When trying to use rapi2 I am getting unresolved external symbol _CLSID_RAPI and unresolved external symbol _IID_IRAPIDesktop.     - Getting Started Are there any online resources that will help me get started in WM development. I am a Palm OS user, and I have read articles from the Palm OS -> WM OS developent section, and I have been looking through the msdn library, and I can't really find anything. I have the dev kit for wm5, and I have created and built the sample project, and I kind of get the gist of what is happening, but I still don't know exactly what it is doing and why. Is there any online source that is the equivelant of the Palm OS Companion, that teaches it all? I want to learn things like basic application development, navigating forms/windows, creating control panel apps, modifying the taskbar, writing today plugins, ect.     - Performance of the 2003 SE emulator Hi all, Does anyone know what processor is equivalent (in MHz, approximately) to the Pocket PC 2003 SE emulator? I am writing a cpu intensive app (it uses integer arithmetic and many bitblt's) and I am getting a very disappointing performance with it.     - Text file question I think I posted this on another message board that I should not have. Anyway, I am fairly new to programming for mobile and I am using VB .Net. I include text files in my VB project, however in the programming what directory do I need to use to reference these text files? I need to open a text file based on user input from a treeview into a streamreader and then read that text file into a text box.     - Using DC functions on bitmap Hello all I'd like to create a small antialiased graphic in my today item, something that shows a value like an analogue gauge. Therefor I created a bitmap of doubled dimensions on which I intend to paint my graphic and which then is downsized to get the smooth edges. But the question for me now is: how do I draw on a bitmap, i.e. get a DC to it?     - More Keyboard hooking question: modifying processed keys another question related to key handling...if i am using a dll hook (LowLevelKeyboardProc) to recieve WM_KEYDOWN messages in my managed code, is it possible to change the virtual keycode and have it be effected when CallNextHookEx in the dll is called? What i have been able to do so far is change data in the KBDLLHOOKSTRUCT in my managed code, and see that those changes do persist back to the dll code.     - Retrieving an Image from a DLL I've posted a msg about this before, thought I had a solution, but didn't. So I'm going to try again ... I have a C# Pocket PC app with which I want to retrieve an embedded image from a separate DLL. I don't know if it matters, but I call this DLL "Multimedia.dll" and I use it to hold various images that are used in both the Pocket PC app and the associated Desktop app. Within Multimedia.dll I have a class called ImageTools in which I have various methods.     - Easy CEdit question I have a CEdit control that is the first and only control on a CPropertyPage. So obviously when the user switches to the property page, the edit control gets focus automatically. Problem is, it selects the entire text as well. I'd like to prevent the text from being selected automatically, since this is a multi-line text editor. I've tried using SetSel() and various other things in OnInitDialog() to position the cursor at the first character, but nothing works...all text is always hilighted.     - Installing a signed LAP Hello All, I am trying to install an M2M signed (Verisign) LAP dll on a Pocket PC 2005 device. It looks like, during startup my LAP doesn't get loaded. On the other hand, if I install dev certificates and load dev signed LAP dll, it gets loaded at startup and everything works fine. Also, I noted that If I run a custom application to load the LAP through the privileged call LASSReloadConfig(), the signed LAP dll gets loaded and I can start the password screen from the Settings->Password screen. So, here are the sequences I tried M2M Signed Version ---------------------- 1. Custom App calls LASSReloadConfig() etc to install the LAP. 2. Goto the Password applet and everything works 3. Reset the device and look at loaded dlls. I can not find my custom LAP dll loaded. 4. In step 2, if I set a password device hangs after a reset and I have to do a hard reset. Dev Signed Version ---------------------- 1. Custom App calls LASSReloadConfig() etc to install the LAP. 2. Goto the Password applet and everything works 3. Reset the device and look at loaded dlls. I CAN find my custom LAP dll loaded this time. 4. In step 2, if I set a password device device shows the password screen after a reset and everything is good. So, I assume there is some difference in loading a custom LAP when it is dev signed Vs signed using, say Verisign. Do you know why ActiveSync 4.0 has not been released yet on Microsoft's website and when it will become avialble ? http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/pocketpc/default.mspx The latest version available is 3.8. I know one can download it from the developer preview but iam looking for a link which i can provide to our current user base.     - Sockets that won't stop I've created a very simple tcp\ip program using your basic send and recv socket functions for WM 2003 SE. The sockets are set for blocking which is fine, since they have their own thread, however if I loose connection the socket just hangs forever. Is there a setting I can change that will stop this(allow the socket to time out)?     - Passthru driver on WM 5.0 emulator Hello all, I am trying to install sample passthru driver on Windows Mobile 5.0 Emulator. I created following reg entries in order to load driver at HKLM\Comm Dll - Mydriver.dll Order - 0 (DWORD) Prefix - "ABC" Index - 0 (DWORD) I call ActivateDeviceEx() from a application to load the driver. But driver is not getting loaded. Is it is the right way to load the IM driver on WM 5.0? How to load it at boot time? I also see "CertVerify: mydriver.dll trust =2" in the output windows.     - PPC and smartphone webcam I have been searching for s/w to allow me to use a ppc or smartphone with a camera as a webcam. the ppc would be connected to a pc via active sync and software running on the ppc and the pc would work together to make the ppc a webcam usable with yahoo instant messenger and the like. I can't find this anywhere, so I might have to write my own. Can anyone give me a push in the right direction by suggesting which APIs I have to study and how the image is passed from the ppc to the pc and how the interface is made to look like a webcam?     - an OpenGL ES question (glPolygonMode()) Hi, I am working on developing a 3D graphics application on pocket PC using OpenGL ES. I am trying to implement a two-pass silhouette algorithm with Opengl ES. But I found a big trouble is that in ES the glPolygonMode is not supported. So, in the original silhouette algorithm that works with OpenGL (code attached below), what can I use to replace glPolygonMode() here so that this piece of code can work with OpenGL ES?     - WM5 Messaging fails to see attachments added through IMessage::CreateAttach Hi everyone, I am porting an email application from Windows Mobile 2002/2003 onto Windows Mobile 2005. I have code for adding emails (possibly with attachments) to the device email database. These messages are then viewed using the native Messaging application. With the WM5 I am facing the following problem: attachments added to the email can not be opened/viewed. When you view the email list in the Inbox, you can see different icons for all email that have attachments. When you open such a message, the attachment is nowhere to be found. There is no link, menu entry, icon or anything that could be used to open that attachment. In the code, I use the exact same IMessage::CreateAttach that used to work on the older platforms. It doesn't work. I have created a utility program that lists the attachment table from the emails. This works perfectly, meaning that the code finds the right attachments from the email. I have created code that lists the attachment tables from the emails, and further reads the attachments from the email and copies them into the file system. This also works: the attachment files can be found and opened through the File Manager. So it seems that the attachment are there alright, but the Messaging application has a problem finding/reading them. Does anyone have any idea what could cause this? What first comes to mind is that the first two parameters in IMessage::CreateAttach (which should be ignored based on the documentation) need to be used in some way. Any help is highly appreciated.
