    - Windows Mobile 2003 backup/restore problem with new eVB Runtime I am having a problem with the backup and restore procedure with a Window Mobile 2003 device, an iPAQ 2210. Here is the primer...I load the new Visual Basic runtime for Pocket PC 2003 and my eVB 3.0 developed program runs without any problems. The problem occurs when I attempt to backup and restore the device. I make the backup using either ActiveSync 3.7.1 or the Backup program on the iPAQ 2210. After restoring the backup image though, my eVB programs do not work right. In specific, I believe I am having a problem with ADOCE 3.0. When my eVB program starts up, it attempts to create a Pocket Access database, using a simple "CREATE DATABASE" SQL statement. The error occurs after the "CreateObject" call is used to create the RecordSet. The main form opens without problems after the error. My first guess is that the new VB Runtime is not loaded correctly after the restore, specifically maybe ADOCE drivers. I looked at the "\Windows" directory on the PDA and see all the ADOCE 3.0 dlls are physically on the device after the restore procedure. Also present are the dlls from the new eVB runtime. Once I uninstall the runtime and my eVB program, everything works correctly after re-installing the same. I have tried this cycle many times and always get the same results. I do not see this problem when backing up and restoring from a Pocket PC or Pocket PC 2002 device. It is vital for my users to be able to make their own backups.     - Converting EVC 3 resources to EVC 4 Are there any known issues with converting EVC 3 resource files to EVC 4? I am finding that bitmaps which I am using as buttons in a dialog seem to be smaller than they are supposed to be. Further, there is another larger rectangle visible behind each of the bitmaps; this rectangle looks to be the size which the bitmap is supposed to be.     - ActiveSync, USB Unknown, Windows CE.NET 4.2 On occasion, when all the planets align and humidity is around 72.5% my Windows CE.NET device achieves a ActiveSync connection. I noticed through Computer Manger/Device Manager shows the device as USB Unknown and not a CE Device...rarely (when I'm successful with activeSync it shows up at a CE Device). What am I missing here? Is anyone else seeing this problem? I'm about a week away from therapy if this exists, please save me from Prozac and a career change!     - Installing 3rd party apps on emulator I've written an app which is dependent on a 3rd party DLL which I install on an iPaq via ceAppMgr.     - Trying to begin.... Hello, I'm trying to start developing applications for my new pocket PC (Compaq Ipaq 3950). I don't know exactly what I have to do, but I read somewhere that I must install Embedded Tools 3.0 and Pocket PC SDK 2002. Is that correct? And if it's, I've got an aditional problem.     - Javascript / CGI on pocket IE Hi there, In summary: 1) Does Javascrpt work on Pocket IE? 2) If storing web pages locally, is there some way I can simulate CGI form processing on my Pocket PC. I want to write an interactive quiz for the pocket PC. Therefore some questions in web pages (that are stored locally on the Pocket PC) that are asked to the user with multiple choice answers and at the end the user is given a score and rating etc. However I made some assumtions that Javascript would just work in Pocket IE but my first attempt has shown that it is ignored. Is this the case? Further to that, lets say I want to do more advance stuff with the quiz and process form input, as I am storing the web pages locally, does that mean I have to have some type of mini server running on the Pocket PC.     - Multiple comms options, which technique? I'm developing data collector software for the ipaq pocket pc. The ipaq has bluetooth, usb, irda capabilities. My previous ce application only used rs232. Soon I've got to make decisions on how to communicate directly with a server pc running .net to deliver the data to the host and receive new configurations. If I can provide a single solution where I don't have to write several drivers for the different technologies it would be great. Is it possible to use active sync to do this sort of special activity? Can the pocketpc instigate discrete sessions to activesync? ie the user would select one or more files to send followed by a request to receive one or more configuration files . If I can use activesync then that would be ideal, but there is a chance that some customers will not allow active sync to run on their systems. Is there another method I could use? I had a brief brush with remoting but that seemed available to networking environments only any opinions gratefully received. In this project, I need to set SSID and then release/renew IP address so the PPC can connect to an AP or a desktop. Now I found the following phenomenon: 1. when I turn WZC (wireless zero config)off, the machine will obtain IP address around 16~17 seconds after I set SSID and release/renew IP address by calling IpReleaseAddress/IpRenewAddress; 2. when I turn WZC on, the machine experiences the same delay, but Setting SSID does not work.     - I can not compile CAB files in VS .NET Hi All! I've been trying to compile CAB files of my Pocket PC 2003 project in Visual Studio.NET. However, this doesn't succeed and all I get is this error in the output window: "Error : The call to CabWiz.exe failed" After that message, it fails. :-? I do not know how to solve this problem the easy way. (The hard way is to re-install VS -- which I do not want to try again...) I have gotten WM2003 and WM2003SE SDKs installed and previously working without a hitch. Deploying to any of the emulators works nicely, just creating the CABs will not work.     - Wincore 1034 when doubleclick on a listbox, when vk_return no error Hi, When I doubleclick or VK_RETURN on in a listbox I do some calculations and close the dialog containing the listbox. Because some devices don't have a touchscreen the VK_RETURN is also captured and when done in the listbox the OnDblClickThisListbox is called and return I true in pretranslate message. The strange thing is: a real ondoubleclick gives a wincore 1034 and a vk_return (which calls the same function) doesn't. This is on PPC2002 and PPC2003 and .NET 4.x the same. The MSDN documentation says, that this API is available under Windows CE 3.0 and higher and one should link against winscard.lib.     - How to detect a RS232 connection Hi, I am a beginner that is writing a Mobile Device Application with Visual Studio 2003. When my device is being 'docked' i want to recieve a message so i can start my synchronisation. I've already used CeRunAppAtEvent and CeEventHasOccurred but this does nothing when my application is already running. I have made a new class from MessageWindow where i have made an override of the WndProc function. But all i get is a message 26 and 1022 and i do not now what it means.     - Installing SP1 Hi, I have a bunch of Symbol MC9000w Pocket PC devices that I have written an application for. I want to take advantage of the changes in Service Pack 1, and am trying to get the SP to install by using a facilty of the MC9000w that can copy the cab files to the startup folder. (It uses .cpy files that specify Path\Filename > DestPath\DestFilename ) When SP1 cab file runs (netcf.core.ppc3.ARM) I get the message "This program is not compatible with the current operating system and, therefore may not run on the device" The device is running: Microsoft Pocket PC Version 4.20.1081 (Build 13100) The processor is : Intel(R) PXA255 Are there any settings I can use to stop this message from appearing, plus the one to overwrite existing files ? I found some information on installing cabs without user intervention, but it was unclear if these would have to be run somehow from the command line (would create a batch file that is run from the startup folder ?), and if so is there an argument for the cab file. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ When you install a CAB, CeAppMgr.exe is invoked.     - com1 Hi I am using embedded visual c++ with a pocket pc 2003 emulator. I have mapped the serial port to com1. My problem is I keep getting the message 'there was an arror trying to open the following port on your host machine: com1: please verify that a device is attached to this port etc'. I am using the serial port to input data. Cant at all see what is different to what i was doing yesterday when it was working fine and my code was reading the seriual port!!     - Global Instance Hi again, I have been trying to make the application Instance truly global (ie declaring it in my applications main header file for use in seperate C++ files). It works fine the way tha app is initially set up with it being made global only to the C++ file that is initially created but when i try to make it truly global I get the compilation error : StdAfx.obj : error LNK2005: "struct HINSTANCE__ * g_hInst" (?g_hInst@@3PAUHINSTANCE__@@A) already defined in mclient.obj stdafx.h is included from both dlgprocs.cpp and mclient.cpp, the two C++ files I wish to use it from at present, and stdafx.h includes the file mclient.h (the header file containing the global definition of g_hInst). I believe this may be a problem regarding the way C++ handles includes differently to C ? I haven't done much C++ before and my application is basically written in C as this is what I am used to and I am not at all familiar with the C++ standard, if anyone could point out how this could be solved or point me in the right direction of any help it would be greatly appreciated! I saw many posts on this problem but didn't see any body posted a
patch. ViewSonic released a patch for this problem. It worked for
me. It's not posted on ViewSonic website so I uploaded the patch to

Do they provide information about which V37 versions this is designed to
work with? The V37 that I have doesn't have any trouble with the serial
port -- it uses Windows Mobile 2003. I suspect that this fix is for the
Pocket PC 2002 version?
