    - IOCTL_NDISUIO_QUERY_BINDING always returns ERROR_NO_MORE_ITEMS I have an application that runs on most CE/PPC/WM devices with no problems. But on this one particular device (Symbol MC3090 CE 5.0), the IOCTL_NDISUIO_QUERY_BINDING fails with "No more data is available." on binding index 0. I know the device has an 802.11 radio (Photon ABG) because I can associate it to a wireless network and use it with no problem. Does anyone know what my problem could be?     - LASS/LAP dialog not appearing I have a LASS/LAP dialog that is not being presented on my real device after a soft reset. The LAP that is working correctly (presenting a password dialog after a soft reset) on my device emulator. The dialog is presented when setting the password through Settings/Lock on my real device, and the password prompt is being presented when manually triggering "VerifyUser" through a test stub.     - ActiveX for Windows CEv4 Hi, Just a warning that i only have general experience in Visual Basic 6. I have been given a project which requires an activeX control to be written which will connect to an SQL Database and display the information in a graph. I can do this no problems in vb6, but my understanding is that it must be written in C. Is this the case? I have VB6 and Visual Studio 2005.     - Keeping Status Bar in view I'm using eVC4 with a Dialog Application. When the dialog starts at full screen, the Today Screen's status bar at the bottom is replaced with a bar that can pull up a keyboard. My app doesn't use a keyboard.     - Question about a dialog form Can anyone advise me how to add an About form to my app. I have tried to do it, and it works well on my Desktop, but on my pocket pc it is doing some problems, for example, after I display the About form with ShowDialog, and then hide the dialog, I cannot access controls on the main form, and also I cannot stop the app from Tasks. Any ideas? Also, does anyone know how to create a global variable that I can access from all forms, before I even instantiate the form. For example, from the About form, I want to set a variable on Form1 (the main form), but only constance come up on the intellisense. The only way I can think of is doing it the other way round, and having my global var on the About form rather than on Form1, and then in Form1 I can instantiate the About form and then I can access the global in About.     - When is DeleteObj called on desktop side? Hi, I have an ActiveSync service provider that needs to do only one way sync (so its essentially a transfer), i.e., it needs to move a bunch of files from the desktop to the device. The device side provider implementation therefore is pretty minimal except for the "IReplObjHandler" implementation. In fact, from "ObjectNotify" I just return FALSE. Now here's the issue - everytime I sync and uncradle the device all the items I have just synced fall off ActiveSync's radar so to speak, so that during the next sync ActiveSync does not really remember the stuff that was synced during the previous session. This happens only if I uncradle before I sync the second time. If I keep it connected then it works just fine. The reason why this happens appears to be that after cradling the device during the second sync, ActiveSync seems to do a device-to- desktop sync first, as a result of which "DeleteObj" gets called on the desktop side for every single item that was synced during the first sync. My implementation of "DeleteObj" on the desktop side does nothing other than return S_OK. Naturally, this results in all those items being removed from wherever it is that ActiveSync keeps that list (repl.dat?). Just to clarify, here's the scenario which causes the problem: [1] Cradle device [2] Synchronize - let's say 5 items get transferred to the device [4] Uncradle device [5] Delete 2 items on the desktop [6] Cradle device [7] Synchronize - now ActiveSync first syncs device-to-desktop and causes "DeleteObj" to be invoked on the desktop side for all 5 items and then during a second automatic (i.e. ActiveSync launches another sync immediately after the first one) sync moves the 3 items (even though they haven't changed) from desktop to device and does nothing about the 2 items that have been deleted. If I understand it right, I must return TRUE from "ObjectNotify" on the device side if and only if I intend to sync stuff back to the desktop from the device. Is this right?     - New questions about contacts So now that my brain has come back from vacation, here's a question hopefully someone can answer for me. My app to display a contact would be completely unnecessary if there were a way I could start the built-in Contacts application with the initial display showing a specific contact. So far, I haven't been able to find any documented way of doing so. Does anyone know if there's a documented way to do this? Does anyone know of an UNdocumented way to do this? Basically, I'm looking for some command-line arguments I could pass to the Contacts application telling it to set it's initial display to a contact I've specified. In my stand-alone app I'm using IContact::Display(), but this has a problem which brings me to my next question... Question 2 has to do with SIM contacts, but pretty much the same as the above. I want to bring up the contact manager displaying a SIM contact. Since SIM contacts aren't in the collection of IContact items, I can't use IContact::Display() to bring up a SIM contact, but when using the Contact application I can see the SIM contacts. Anyone know the meaning of error code 80070490? References I've found with that number on Google don't seem to be relevant to why GetItemFromOid is failing. Am I using GetItemFromOid properly? If not, what would be an easy way to look up a specific contact. Look up by name wouldn't work because there might be more than one match, I need to be specific.     - Menus and Multiple Platforms Some of you have noticed that I insist on generating executables that work on as many platforms as possible, and that I have come very close, except for menus. Well, I _finally_ did some experiments with minimal programs, and am sharing my results. I used an iPAQ 3665, running Pocket PC (2000) on an ARM-compatible CPU for all tests. And I used eVC 3 for all builds. When I build using the HPC Pro SDK, the TaskBar is on the bottom. When I build using the Pocket PC SDK, the TaskBar is on the top. I think that means that, unless I'm willing to do some serious hacking, I can't have a single executable run on all platforms with TaskBar and menus in the "normal" (for each platform) position. Not a tragedy, but generating, distributing, and installing the extra executables is a nuisance, and (in case you haven't noticed) bugs me. I will still see whether I can get HPC Pro builds running on all platforms with TaskBar on the bottom and menus on the top. But even though I think that is functional, it is probably unacceptable for "esthetic" reasons. The entire source code is below. Near the top of the CPP file, a section labeled "SWITCHES" defines a couple of macros that are used in compile-time directives later to enable/disable some sections of code. I used this method to try both modal and non-modal dialog box, and to call SHInitDialog or not. I did not test menus. I used an icon for my tests, but didn't bother including it and disabled the reference in the code below. I _assume_ that won't affect the results. I could probably debug the Pocket PC builds directly.     - Uninstalling CAB File Doesn't Remove Shortcuts Hi, I noticed that on a Pocket PC 2003 SE device, uninstalling a CAB file doesn't remove the shortcuts that appears in the "Programs" menu. I initially thought that this was a problem with the way I was creating the CAB file for Pocket PC 2003 SE. However, I saw this happen even with some other CAB files. Has anyone else seen this?     - Platform Builder SDK, once installed, does not appear in VS2005. Does anyone know why a Platform Builder CE 5.0 generated SDK would not show up in VS2005 as a possible device when the VC smartdevice wizard runs? Another way to ask: Does anyone know the OS Design requirements, or any other PB 5.0 requirements, to have it so that an OS's PB-generated SDK causes a device to show up in VS2005 once the sdk itself is installed? I've tried this with two Platform Builder 5.0 OS Designs. One uses the "Mobile Handheld" template, and the other uses the "Enterprise Web Pad template." After installing the PB-generated SDK for the OS Design using the "Mobile Handheld" template, VS2005 does *not* show the device as a choice in the smartdevice wizard. The PB-generated SDK for the OS Design using the "Enterprise Web Pad" *does* show the device as an option. Does anyone know what components need to be present for VS2005 to list a deviced associated with a PB-generated SDK that has been installed? Obviously something in the Enterprise Web Pad template is not in the Mobile Handheld template which causes the device for the Mobile Handheld SDK not to be displayed. I realize this seems like a PB 5.0 question but I've had no response over there, and my guess is that technically this is information that the VS2005 folks determine since VS2005 is technically their application and it is the one whose behavior is undefined to me.     - Custom setup.dll localization Hi, I have an application that requires localization on its custom setup.dll (some checks are done in the Install_Init function). All the application resources are contained in a separate dll and we want to use that dll for the resources of the custom setup.dll. The problem is that, on installation time, the resources dll is not unpacked from the cab file (only the setup dll is unpacked) until the Install_Init is executed. I've been trying to look for information about what are the valid values/parameter for the install CSP that goes in the _setup.xml to see if something can specified in there on what files should be unpacked before calling the Install_Init function from the setup.dll. Verify that the package exists...". My system has XP sp 2, and I have Visual Studio 2005 Professional installed on my computer. Does anyone know why the file will not install?     - eVC4: Does it have a Label? I want to put a label on my main form that I can use to write information on to my Users. In the Dialog resource editor, the closest I can find is a Static Text control followed by an Edit Box control. Is there a way to modify the text information on a Static Text control during program execution? I have tried doing this unsuccessfully before. Currently to draw text onto the form, I get the rectangle of the window, calculate where I want my text displayed, then use DrawText to place my information. This causes some flickering that I would like to avoid by having a label on the form that I can simply edit the text of. What should I do here? Again: Using eMbedded VC, not Visual Studio. When I have a picturebox control and set its image property to that of an icon I have, the designer in VS draws it correctly ie with the transparency allowing the backcolour through.     - Javascript with Mobile Explorer and DTM_ADDTEXT I am attempting to load dynamic web pages into the HTMLView control using DTM_ADDTEXT. This part works fine. However, any javascript in the page does not get executed (or body onload= doesn't work). I need to have javascript fire when the page loads but I can't figure out how to do it.     - Landscape and SipUp problem I'm trying to get an MFC CFormView app to behave in Landscape mode with the SIP showing, and I'm encountering problems. An unexpected scroll-bar is showing up on the left side. It seems like there is excess space under the form.     - Modem Connection Errors Not sure if this is the right newsgroup....please let me know if there is a better one. I'm developing an application for a rugged WM 5.0 PDA that uses a compact flash GPRS modem to connect to the Internet. Our application uses the compact .net framework to communicate to our servers on the Internet. I'm trying to understand a bit more how windows mobile handles the modem connections, specifically the error conditions. We setup a modem connection to Cingular or T-Mobile and the device automatically handles the dialing out, etc. But if the device is in an area with very poor GPRS coverage, after attempting to dial out, a balloon pops up with "The answering modem has disconnected. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings." If I enter bogus settings I can generate a other errors, such as "Cannot connect for an unknown reason". Or removing the card and attempting to connect gives "No modem found". I've also seen "No modem at above number" and maybe a couple more that I can't think of. I'd like to understand what these errors actually mean. Are there windows API's that describe them? The problem I'm investigating is that sometimes the modem gets into a state where a soft reset is required before it will connect again. To our app, it appears that the modem is not present.     - KeyInput issues So I'm writing a game engine and I've been struggling with getting a key input system working that works on all devices properly. Right now I'm using GxOpenInput() to disable key filtering at the start of my app and GxCloseInput() at the end of the app. I capture key input in the message procedure via WM_KEYDOWN and WM_KEYUP messages and then set a member variable based on that. For example: LRESULT TApplication::MsgProc(HWND hWnd, UINT uMsg, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam) { switch(uMsg) { case WM_KEYDOWN: switch (wParam) { case VK_TACTION: m_dwKeyInput |= ACTION; return 0L; } break; case WM_KEYUP: { case VK_TACTION: m_dwKeyInput &= ~ACTION; return 0L; } break; } return DefWindowProc(hWnd, uMsg, wParam, lParam); } That's a very reduced version for brevity but it captures all the important keys - UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, ACTION, SOFT 1 & 2, HOME, BACK, TALK and END. This sytem works very well across all devices BUT there are some exceptions. For instance, on most devices pressing the ENDCALL button will generate a WM_KEYDOWN message and then WM_KEYUP when the button is released. But on some devices (like the Samsung Blackjack) pressing the ENDCALL generates both WM_KEYDOWN and a WM_KEYUP messages one after the other which of course leads to the m_dwKeyInput being set and cleared before it can ever be used in the game loop.     - Detect Cradle I'm writing code in VB.NET and using Windows Mobile 5.0 on a Dell Axim PDA (a PPC). I want to use VB.NET to detect when the PDA is put in the cradle.... So two things: 1) can the PPC VB.NET App itself detect when it has been placed in the cradle?????? 2) can the PPC VB.NET, if it detects being put in the cradle, run another application on the PPC or on the desktop.     - Getting Locale ID Hi, I'm on PPC (ok, Windows Mobile Professional). Under HKLM\nls you can see these two keys: SystemLCID = 1033 DefaultLCID = 1041 The SystemLCID depends on language of OS The DefaultLCID seems to depend on Regional settings. I'm trying to localize my application where the language should depend on OS, just like other built-in apps. I'd expect that GetSystemDefaultLCID would return the SystemLCID and GetUserDefaultLCID would return DefaultLCID. However, it seems both return DefaultLCID, which is dependent on Regional Settings, not language of OS. I could read out the registry key directely, but I am trying to do this properly with APIs. What's the right way to do this? I thought it was GetSystemDefaultLCID(), but that isn't the OS language and that makes my application use a different language than the other apps in the OS. HandleSIP ... that shows how to deal with WM_SETTINGCHANGE and the corresponding Activate, OnSize, etc. I'm wrestling with getting an equivalent program to work with MFC. With VC6 for desktop apps, there is an available handler in the ClassWizard for WM_SETTINGCHANGE that becomes CMainFrame::OnSettingChange. With a TRACE call, I can see this routine is reached, for example, when I change the display settings. However, with evc3, I've tried to do the equivalent, and the function isn't reached.
