    - Asynch wininet - Threaded or not? Hi, If I use asynch Wininet is there any purpose in hiving of the Wininet calls into separate threads and the extra complication which ensues? As from what I can see the system starts a separate thread implicitly for the asynch calls anyway. The reason I ask is I imagine the thread switching might ensure that the UI remains responsive - plus there may be other issues you can enlighten me with. My application is "real-time" and will be applied to a Pocket PC/Smartphone as well as WinXP so I need the quickest/most efficient functionality possible. Also the UI response must be as fast as possible. The application basically "GET"s a website for info then issues occasional - through crucial "POST"s prompted by the user via the UI.     - Newbie info on device-locking, screen on/off, hotkeys I have a qtek9100, I wish for it to stay "on" all the time, unless explicitly "powered down" by the power-button. However, i want to "lock" the device, and the screen turned off when the device is locked. I can see that this will require me to write a small app. I have looked at apps like ScreenToggle, but that doesn't work very well in combination with locking, integration is needed. I have VS2003, with mobile-support, and i've managed to write a hello-world app that runs on the qtek. I am registering for notifications basically by the example in the Pocket PC 5.0 help file. I am currently running an application that creates a new thread and that thread creates/changes/deletes the PIM items. My question is when this thread creates/changes/deletes a PIM items, how come that message gets passed to my windows procedure as a remote change and not a local change? Don't threads have the same Process ID as the calling process, so it should be considered basically the same process? Also, is there a way to determine the process that changed the PIM items, if any?     - WM2005 Power Management issue/BUG??? Hi I am porting an application from PPC2003 to WM2005 devices. These are a Qtek XDA platform and an XDA EXEC platform. I am monitoring the Power manager events and continuously get PBT_POWERSTATUSCHANGE notifications, to such a degree that the platform operation is slowed significantly.     - Clock Configuration Service Provider - CPF Dear list, I am currently trying to set the Time Zone on a PocketPC 2003 device.     - DrawIcon on VGA Hello! I have a small window that is of size 16x16 px. I also have an icon resource with two sizes: 16x16 and 32x32. On non-VGA devices, when I use DrawIcon() the 16x16 icon gets drawn and everything look good. However, as you already know, on VGA devices, WinCE resizes this window to real 32x32 pixels, and also resizes the icon, so it look pixelated.     - Hardware button events Hi all, I have a stopwatch project in VS2003 targeting a Pocket PC 2003 device (which has cf 1.0 SP3 in ROM) Is there any way I can utilise the hardware buttons on the device for user input? I know this has been asked before, and I do apologise, however, I've googled extensively, but can only find native code or new examples for the v2.0 framework (which presumably need VS2005??)     - VS2005 remote tools do not connect, but eVC tools do Hi, I have made a custom SDK for a custom Windows CE 5.0 device. When I try to connect to this device from eVC, I am able to connect & debug & run all the remote tools. >From VS 2005, I can only connect, deploy and run the test application ( Ctrl + F5 ). I cannot debug, neither can I connect using any of the VS2005 remote tools. When I try to use the remote tools, I get an error saying "Parameter is incorrect", if I try to connect after running CMAccept.exe, otherwise it just does not get connected, and status changes to "disconnected". There is no error msg also. Is there some kind of authentication required by CoreCon, which is not required by Platform Manager? Also for the SDK & device I created I can see the device with ActiveSync & TCP transport connection options in eVC, but I can only see the TCP transport option in VS 2005.     - "app" is not a valid Pocket PC application Help!! We're porting a MFC-application that was originally built using eVC++/PPC2003SDK to VS2005/Mobile 5.0. Aside from the migration problems, renamed/deprecated MFC classes, compiler issues, etc., the project compiled and linked fine for: Solution Configuration: Debug Solution Platform: Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC SDK (ARMV4I) Target Device: Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC Emulator When we try to launch the application, "Start Debugging", the application and all its components (including MFC80XXX.dll, MSVCRT80XXX.dll, and ATL80.dll) were deployed correctly but fails with: Unable to start program "%CSIDL_PROGRAM_FILES%\App Directory\App.exe" When we try to launch the application from the "Remote directory" (My Device/Program Files/App Directory) on the emulator, it fails with: "App" is not a valid Pocket PC application BTW, I created a new "MFC Smart Device Application" project, selecting similar properties as used in the "App". Compiled, linked and "Start Debugging" the newly created project with no problems!! (The newly created project was not even signed.) I compared compiler and linker settings/flags; no major differences!! In fact, I updated my App to use the same compiler and linker settings/flags and it still fails!!     - RAS Entry in C - I really really need help Hi all, I using the below code to set-up a RAS entry and dial params in a C setup program for a connection later on. The entries are copied directly from a working RAS connection I can make in the "Connections"->"My ISP" editor of PocketPC2003 SE3. I just can't seem to get it to work connectly. There looks to be a connection but it fails on authorisation and yet if I use the exact same values in the "My ISP" editor it works. I'm really at my wits end. In the code I'm checking every return for error codes - this bit is missing below - but all functions succeed. It seems so simple and yet it doesn't work. What is the editor doing that I'm not?     - VS2005 unable to debug on Wince device (Ctrl + F5 works F5 does not) Hi, I am trying to debug a simple hello world app on a Windows CE 5.0 device (custom OS), using Visual Studio 2005. I have the device connected to the PC using ActiveSync & cross cable. I can ping to the device and the PC & device are on the same subnet. When I try to debug the device I get the error message "Unable to start debugging." Deploy succeeds as specified the messages below: 1>------ Deploy started: Project: testm, Configuration: Debug STANDARDSDK_500 (ARMV4I) ------ ========== Deploy: 1 succeeded, 0 failed, 0 skipped ========== I have tried uninstalling & reinstalling Visual Studio 2005 & Standard SDK 5. I have also removed VS .NET 2003 from my PC. So now on VS 2005 with Standard SDK is there. I can use Ctrl + F5 and start the application. This works but F5 does not.     - mobile device file system access from c# (VS2005) I have been searching for a way to programmatically copy a file to/from a windows mobile device to the desktop from a WinForms program, and I have come up with nothing. My ultimate goal is the push/pull a SQL Mobile database file, since WinForms cannot access the Windows Mobile database for reading data, but can view the structure, which doesn't make sense to me. :) If there is a better way, I'm all ears or eyes, since I'm at an impasse.     - how to clean up old entries in Remove Programs on wm5.0 When upgrading or reinstalling my application on windows mobile 5.0 devices, I frequently see the error that it was unable to remove the previous version - similar to the thread at http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.pocketpc.developer&mid=e832713d-4e74-4fb7-91b0-4f9edbfaa632&sloc=en-us. One solution that I've seen referenced in the SDK documentation is to use a different AppName in the setup.inf file to avoid the uninstall of the original version. If I do this, I'll then have two different items in the Remove Programs list after installing the new version. Is there any supported way to remove the extra entry in Remove Programs? It looks like I can just delete the unwanted entry from HKLM/Security/AppInstall and HKLM/Software/Apps, but would like to do this in a supported way if it exists.     - Minimizing WinCE application Hi folks, I'm using VS2005, doing C++/MFC application. My application is dialog-based, but dialog is not modal, I'm initializing it following way: BOOL CMyCoolApp::InitInstance() { ... theApp.m_pMainWnd = new CMainDialog(); theApp.m_pMainWnd->Create(IDD_DIALOG_MAIN, NULL); ... } Recently I had a problem that I wasn't able to force my damned dialog to show "X" button instead of "OK" one. After playing with styles, I found that if I have following dialog styles in resource script for IDD_DIALOG_MAIN: STYLE DS_SETFONT | WS_POPUP | WS_VISIBLE | WS_SYSMENU EXSTYLE WS_EX_APPWINDOW and additionally calling ::SHDoneButton(m_hWnd, SHDB_HIDE); inside of CMainDialog::OnInitDialog();, "X" button appearing, but if I press it, dialog is not hides, it still stays over today screen, although application is deactivated (I think it is, because caption/menu bars doesn't contains my application specific captions/menus).. If I'm adding WM_MINIMIZEBOX style to dialog, "OK" button appearing (that's totally strange for me) and not the "X" one. If I'm trying to call ::SHDoneButton(m_hWnd, SHDB_HIDE); in this (with WS_MINIMIZEBOX style) case, "OK" button disappearing, but I still have no "X" button, the place on the right side of the caption is just empty, there is nothing..     - Suppressing conext menu in pocket pc app I have a context menu with several menu items used throughout the app. In one screen, the context menu is not applicable so I have the menus disabled. I have been asked to not allow the popup at all just in this screen. The same screen is used for different views, in one view I need the context menu and in the other view I do not. I found a link to some SDK doc (ms-help://MS.MSDNQTR.v80.en/MS.MSDN.v80/MS.MOBEMBDEV.v10.en/guide_ppc/html/ppc_programming_pocket_pc_2002_jefe.htm), but do not understand how to implement it into my code. It appears that the menu items do not provide a visible property either. The first time I enter the screen, I get the mousedown event when tapping and holding. After that I always get the popup event only. If I could get the mousedown event everytime, then maybe I couold suppress the popup from there. I am coding in vb .net for pocket pc. I am doing my final year in Computer science and as part of my project, i have to implement the Object Push Profile on Top of Generic Object exchange Profile my problem is, with the Exchange Vcard feature. i have to provide an API to the application and the application has to write /read the vcard. when the application calls the exchange feature, i have to return an operation handle to the application and with that operation handle the application must read/ write the vcard. and then the application must close the stream with the operation handle. but with a single operation handle the application can either read or write, and cant do both. how can i solve this pblm....     - Newbie Question - Create installer for WM 5.0? CAB?? Dear friendly readers, I'm new to the world of PDA development, and I find it to be fun so far! Using Visual Studio 2005, I have been able to create a simple program targeting Windows Mobile 5.0 in C#. I have also figured out how to deploy the application to the emulator and also deploy it to my PDA in the cradle in debugger mode. So the next step is to actually install my program on my PDA. How do I do that? From searches on the web, I gather that I need to create a CAB file, but I'm not to sure what that is or how to do it. Is there a wizard in VS 2005 that creates the necessary files in my desktop hard drive? And then do I just put them on my CF card on my PDA through ActivSync and just run the program? How do I get an icon for my program to show up with all the others on the "programs" page? Could you give me a few tips or do you know of a good webpage that lays all this information out? flushed (when is CeFlushDBVol called)?

Does this only occur if you call IPOutlookApp::Logoff?

Does the flush move data from "Program memory" to "Storage memory"?
