WIFI and scanning together
Hello everybody,
1) How to have 802.11 connectivity for PDA along with
scanning (bar code) ability?
2) It seems there are are dual slots available from
Symbol for iPAq and compaq itself for iPaq. But do they
have support for .net compact framework.
http://www.racoindustries.com/symsps3000.htm
is there a work around?
3) Symbol's dual slot, SPC
a. Symbol SPS 3000 SDK available to support bar code
scanning. Does it mean i have to write a wrapper around
SDK to use in compact framework?
b. it also says Fully compatible with Microsoft SDK for
Pocket PCs. Does it mean support only for EVB / EVC and
not for compact framework?
4) Is it possible to give hardware independent WIFI and
SCANNING (bar code) together solution for an application
developed in .net compact framework?
5) Can OpenNet.cf library for bar code scanning (for
Socket scanner), be used from this Dual Slot option?
6) Is there any solution avaialable for supporting bar code
scanning from compact framework + opennetCF librabry for
socket IN HAND TYPE scanner? (And apart from Symbol of
course). I do not want to writer wrappers around eVB code.
With this either solution becomes specific to SOCKET
scanner + ipAq dual slot OR Symbol PDA. I want avoid this
Any help will be appreciated.

Accessing Command Bar Menu on iPaq Pocket PC
All,
I am going to pull my last hair out. This is a very simply problem
and I can't seem to solve it.. any help appreciated.
I am using Embedded Visual C++ 4 (ev4) to write a simple program of a
new iPaq (5500) running Pocket PC 2003. UI is standard
menu-on-the-bottom type.
I have a simple menu defined in the sources -- diplays 2 main items:
Fruits Veggies. "Fruits" contains "Apple" and "Veggies" contains
"Celery."
Now PROGRAMATICALLY (believe it or not), I want to add the string
"Orange" to the menu item "Fruits."
For the love of God I can't do it. I've tried the whole
SHGetMenu/SHGetSubMenu thing, the CommandBar_ stuff, etc. to no avail.
Is there some sort of Voodoo Pack I need to make this work?
Any help appreicated (sincerely). Thx.

Pocket IE on POCKET PC 2003 device (Symbol 8846)
Hi,
We developed web based application using asp.net and MMIT. This
application works for Internet explorer 5.5 above and Pocket IE
browser.
We use basic javascript on client side. It works fine for Pocket IE
(Pocket PC2002). But same page does not work for PIE(PPC2003).
Detail explaination:
I have login page where user need to enter user id and password. They
can enter either typing or using number keypad. (In login page we have
created number pad using html buttons). If user does not enter
anything and click on login it does client side validation and alert
the message. If I run the same login page in PIE(PPC 2003) it gives
javascript error that control not found. I am getting controls
collection and checking the name of the control. Another thing is If I
remove some of the controls from the page than it is finding the
textbox control.
Is there any limitation of controls on PIE(PPC2003)?

eVC controls under CF .NET

still would like to try my method ).
The control is created just fine, but later on I have some problems

Is this approach ( creating the native MFC controls from .NET ) "legal"?

Bluetooth programming
Dear all,
I am currently trying to establish a one-way traffic via bluetooth from a
Comtec bluetooth radio module to an HP iPAC with built-in bluetooth running
on Windows CE.net 4.2.
HP iPACs are based on Widcomm Bluetooth stack instead of Microsoft's stack
built in Windows CE operating system. Hence, there isn't native support of
Bluetooth through WINSOCK framework.
Therefore, I am trying to establish connections via the virtual COM port
since it is still allowed.
I have 2 questions:
1. For the PDA to discover the remote Bluetooth Radio module, I have to call
a WSALookupServiceBegin() function which is within the Winsock.h header.
Since the Widcomm Bluetooth cannot support winsock framework, can I still
use this function to discover the device and communicate through the virtual
COM port?
2. If I am not allowed to do the former, must I find the device through the
OBEX layer of bluetooth stack? And if I must use the OBEX layer to find the
device, can I still use the virtual COM port to establish connection or must
I also use the OBEX layer to connect?
3. If you want me to see you on programming the bluetooth in the HP iPAC, I
will be most glad! I sincerely appreciate your time and precious help on
this. Thank you very much.

BAR CODE related URGENT!
1) how to use TTF font for bar code generation. I need the
procedure. I am using the compact framework for
development (C#). I am looking for step by step
instructions. I want to print the generated BAR CODE
not display on form. I plan to use the PRINTERCE.cf
dll by fieldsoftware.
2) i am newbie for pocket pc development.. hence looking
for elaborate answers: -
a) Can bar code scanning be done using the key board
port?
b) Where is keyboad port situated?
c)Does it come with all the pocket PC devices?
d) Do all the scanner support such functionality?
d)If bar code scanning is possible using key board port
from all scanners and for all PDAs,
(and from what i understand, then it does not require any
support of SDK for .net), then why there are SDKs
available for bar code scanning?
3)a. Does the thermal printer necessarily mean with a
seperate network IP?
b. Or can be attached to a PDA device.
c. If it can be attached to a PDA device, then does it
mean PDA device should have a seperate socket for
attaching it ?
4) a. The most important, Can ALL The PDAs be used to
support wireless ethernet as well as scanning options at
the same time?
b. If there is no in built support for both scanning
and ethernet connectivity together, can there be solution
to all PDAs like expasion pack mentioned in
http://www.racoindustries.com/symsps3000.htm
5) Anybody aware about the performance of HP SDK for
.net compact framework?
6) Does this all necessarily indicate to got for SYMBOL?
I have given a lot of time for above questions and too
confusing answers for it.
Please looking for answers of all questions.

Problem with sub menu in sub menu
I'm developing an application that should on run on
multiple devices and PPC versions. It is an MFC project
with "Basic Command Bar".
If I use a menu with a popup menu in a popup menu, it
works fine on PPC2002 device and emulator, Palm-size
device and emulator and also on a PPC(2000) device. In
the PPC(2000) emulator my application crashes with an
Unhandled Exception (Access Violation). Debugging the
application I detected that it crashes in
CCeCommandBar::InsertMenuBar in function
MenuItemStringStrip() when API function SetMenuItemInfo
is called.
In another (new) project I don't see the text I entered
for that menu item. Instead I see some squares; sometimes
instead of a square a letter (sometimes arabic, cyrillic,
hebraic, ...). It only happens on my emulator
not in the device.
I can't see what I'm doing wrong because I do nothing.
Just added a menu item to a menu item and checked "Pop-
up".

argument instead of the LPCWSTR:
error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "public: static
int __stdcall CCeDBDatabase::Exists(unsigned long)" (?
Exists@CCeDBDatabase@@SGHK@Z)
No problems for SH3 and MIPS and no problems for PPC or

I took a deep look into the x86em libs and dlls and I
found
?Exists@CCeDBDatabase@@SAHK@Z
?Exists@CCeDBDatabase@@SAHPBG@Z
with 'A' not with 'G'.
I searched the MS knowledge base but I didn't find
anything about that.
Any ideas?

Print over Irda
Hi,
I have an application that sends data with Winsock over
Irda to a mobile printer. It's works well on a PocketPC
2002 (MDA). But the new Windows Mobile 2003 PPC (Toshiba
e800) prints very slow. Offen the PPC lost his connection.
The transmission to other devices like phone is very slow
too and hangs some time. The program is written with
embedded C++ because the printer don't like unicode. I
have the code compiled new with C++ 4.0 and Winsock 2.2
but the problem is the same.
Is there anyone, who has an idea: is this a bug in PPC
2003, a bad implementation of the interface or a defect

Limitations on the compact framework.
Hi.
Im new at developing towards the Pocket PC platform. I have programmed
normal windows applications in .NET before.
The question im having is as follows: Due to the limitations in the Compact
Framework i realize there are a number of properties for instance that will
not work in the Pocket PC environment. For instance the BackColor property
on a label. However in Visual Studio intellisense provides you with all the
properties and methods. Is there somewhere a list or document stating what
methods and properties are supported for the various classes to see what
will actually work on the Pocket PC?
And if you have links to Open Source places around the web where people
discuss and show examples of derived controls needed due to the above
mentioned limitations I would greatly appreciate it.

TTF,Printer support ?
How to use TTF (True type fonts) in .net CF ?
I want to use TTF for Barcode generation.
Target OS is PocketPC 2000 & Later,I am using C# (Dot net Compact
Framework).
Is there any other alternative available apart from BarcodeCE from field
software which doesn't supports PPC2000 ?
I am also finding it difficult to provide printing option in my application
as again the available options are very less i.e. 1. use Symbol
Device, symbol Printer 2. use Symbol sps 3000 for iPaq and use Symbol
microFlash (MF) Series.
Once again if I want to use printer then PrinterCE looks like the only
option but here again it doesn't supports PPC2000.
Let me clearly tell you what type of solution we are trying to provide.
1. Provide WLAN accessibility. We don't have any problem as already our
applications previous version provide this facility
2. Barcode Scanning. We have found 2 solutions. 1. Use symbol device with
scanner and inbuilt WLAN support. 2. Use iPaq and SPS 3000.
3. Barcode Generation. We have found 2 solutions with doubts.1. Use Symbol
device 2.Use iPaq and use TTF or BarcodeCE(no support for PPC)
4. Barcode Printing. We have found 2 solutions with doubts.1. Use Symbol
device 2.Use iPaq and use TTF or PrinterCE(no support for PPC)
We want to provide solution for PPC2000 also ,for which we could not find
any solution yet.

rasdial problem, pocketpc 2003
I'm testing a deployed pocketpc 2002 app on ppc2003
One problem: RasDial seems to always fail.
The model light comes on as if it is dialing but the connection is always
dropped after the same amount of time it usually takes to connect.
However, it dials fine from IE or ConnectionManager.
Were there any changes to RAS in PPC 2003 that would cause RasDial to fail? Tag: Need code to print via IRDA using VB.Net 2003 Pocket PC code ? Tag: 70231
toshiba e805 and memory cards
I have just ordered the toshiba e805 pocket pc and I am
wondering what memory cards are compatible with it. I am
interested in high capacity memory cards1 gb or more for
storing e books. I am wondering what is the difference
between compact flash type II and type? I Can both of them
fit in the cf slot of the e 805. Does anyone have any
recommendations? Tag: Need code to print via IRDA using VB.Net 2003 Pocket PC code ? Tag: 70230

Preventing auto power-down
I have been calling:
keybd_event(NULL,NULL,KEYEVENTF_SILENT|KEYEVENTF_KEYUP,NULL);
periodically to keep the power from going off when my application is
in running. It works on all Pocket PCs that I have tested. But I
have heard from one of my clients that it is not working with the new
Dell Axim X5 (with ROM version A05). Can anyone confirm that, and can
anyone suggest a more fool-proof way of accomplishing the same end?

Known workaround for "insufficient memory to install" problem?
Hello,
I'm trying to install the eVC++ 4.0 package that I
downloaded from Microsoft's website (so that I can then
proceed to develop PocketPC apps), but I keep getting an
error message telling me that there's insufficient memory
to run the install. This despite the fact that I have
twice the recommended memory (I'm running W2K SP3 with 256
MB of RAM) and no programs (except the OS itself, of
course) are running. I haven't found anything in the
Knowledge Base, and the eVC++ 4.0 product doesn't appear
on the Tech Support web page for sending questions to
support. Can anyone suggest some workaround for this
problem, or perhaps give me more specific information
about how to get help from Microsoft for solving the issue?
Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can offer,

WTL 7.1 is available for download
WTL 7.1 is available for download at:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=1be1eb52-aa96-4685-99a5-4256737781c5&displaylang=en
WTL 7.1 supports building GUI ATL applications uisng Visual Studio 6, 2002
and 2003 as well as eVC3.0 and eVC 4.0 targeting Win32 (Windows 2000,
Windows XP, Windows 2003) and Windows CE 3.0 and up including Smartphone
2002 and 2003. It supplies app wizards for all 5 dev environments listed
above.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------
WTL now fully supports building projects for the Windows CE platforms. This
initial support for Windows CE was implemented primarily for eMbedded Visual
C++ 4.0 with Pocket PC 2003 and SmartPhone 2003 SDKs. However, it can be
used with other versions and configurations. For instance, Standard SDK 4.1
is supported as well. The WTL AppWizard works with both EVC++ 4.0 and 3.0,
but it might not generate the code that is optimal for the platforms
supported by EVC++ 3.0. Considerable effort was made to provide the best
Windows CE support, however, there might be some limitations because
different platforms provide different programming support.
The support for Windows CE was not designed to port projects for the desktop
version of Windows as-is to the Windows CE platforms, but to allow use of
the same library, WTL, for both desktop Windows and Windows CE. Applications
for Windows CE are often designed in a different way, and they use different
platform services. WTL depends on the version of ATL provided with each
Windows CE platform, and supports controls and services that are appropriate
and supported for each Windows CE platform.

Smart Device Extension
Ho scaricato il file SDEforVB.exe per aggiungere le estensioni Smart Device
a Visual Studio .NET.
E' un file zippato... come faccio ad installarlo ?
Non trovo nessun file di installazione.
Scusate la banalità della domana.

Pocket PC API and SMS
Does anyone have experience using this?
When I am developing in VS.Net, how do I add a reference
to the Pocket PC API so I can use the SMS functionality?
Does anyone have any links to web pages with more info?
This is my last question for the day, thank you :)

help for software developement
Hi
I'm Mark from Italy
I'm looking for someone capable to develop a software application
Based on windows mobile Smartphone 2002
I will used with Motorola MPX 200 that is powered with Smartphone
2002
As you known in Europe we use a lot the SMS messages ( some hundred
of millions a day...!!)
And there is not any software application that permit to stop SMS
messages
Like.spam messages.or.messages that is better to receive in a second
time when
People are.free.and nobody is controlling.
The best think is to have an application that permit to stop, all
the SMS messages
Or better to receive the messages, but some of them (maybe that are
in a special contact list or something similar) ..can go directly in
a special hidden place of the smartphone ..
This can permit people to open.in a second moment.the SMS messages
Do you think this is possible.?
And if.how much can cost..?
Sorry for my bad English.but I think you understand what I'm looking
for.
Regards
Mark
