    - AS Provider Desktop to Device Transfer Problems I've been fighting with the same issue for several weeks now and it has me completely stuck. I was hoping someone might have some experience and guidance developing an ActiveSync service provider and could offer some advice. I have some specific questions about ObjectNotify (in particular the ONF_CHANGED and ONF_DELETED flags in a one to many object mapping), but first let me describe the end symptom I've been unable to overcome. The problem I experience is that records transferred from the desktop to the device take several connections to settle out correctly. More specifically, if I add one new record to the desktop store, I see the following happen: Connection 1 - The record is correctly copied from the desktop to the device. The ActiveSync manager shows that 1 of 1 record was processed and everything is synchronized. Records appear on both stores as expected. Connection 2 - Even though nothing has changed, the second connection will claim to process 2 records. From looking at my logs, the desktop requests the record from the device (calling the device's GetPacket function - although the SetPacket call on the desktop side does not appear to have the RSF_CONFLICT_OBJECT flag set surprisingly.). The record is sent up to the desktop and the ActiveSync Manager then deletes the desktop object using the desktop's DeleteObject. It then re-adds the desktop record as part of the SetPacket call. Finally it tells the device to clear its dirty bits (ObjectNotify called with ONF_CLEAR_CHANGE) associated with the record in question. Connection 3 - The manager shows 1 record being processed. The record is deleted from the desktop (DeleteObject). Connection 4 - The manager shows 1 record being processed. The record is copied from the device back to the desktop (SetPacket on the desktop). Connection 5 and later - No actions are necessary. Everything is synchronized. Aside from the inconvenience of requiring multiple connections, after the third connection is problematic because the record disappears from the desktop store until synchronized again upon connection 4. To offer a little background, I have the device store all of the records in a memory mapped file. When the file is passed into the ObjectNotify function (without the ONF_CHANGED or ONF_DELETED flags), I return a list of all items with changed records towards the front of the list and unchanged at the end. The number of changed records gets specified by cOidChg and the number of unchanged records using cOidDel. I have the one file map to multiple objects. I later implemented the FindObjects function hoping that would help, but it didn't matter. It is now called and enumerates the lists in the opposite order as the documentation requests (unchanged first and changed second). I admittedly do not entirely understand how to handle the cases where ONF_CHANGED or ONF_DELETED are set in ObjectNotify since I have the one file to many object mapping on the device side. I have tried many things, but nothing has made much of a difference. All the documentation I have found only describes it for a one to one mapping and not a one to many mapping. I've logged the pNotify->oidObject value whenever these flags are set, but I've never seen the value match my object ID so I'm not sure what to make of it. If anyone has any suggestions for this, it may be helpful. I also checked wcesmgr.log and nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. It reports that it is synchronizing 1 or 2 objects as described above and also mentions the call to DeleteObject as a "DeleteObjectOnDesktop" line item. From looking at my own debug logs, the desktop seems to enumerate its objects fine and the IsItemChanged function returns that the object has not changed (FALSE). Calls to the desktop function CompareItem seem to work fine too. The device side is mainly characterized by calls to GetObjTypeInfo, FindObjects, ObjectNotify, GetPacket, and SetPacket. My best guess is that there's something on the device side provider causing this. I've played with ObjectNotify for a couple of weeks now with no luck. Has anyone seen anything like this or have any suggestions? Answers would be great, but even resources or suggestions would be helpful. I feel like I'm running in circles at the present and have been disappointed by the resources out there on active service provider development. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.     - GSM/GPRS/UMTS Communication Hi, I am trying to develop an application that would allow on-air encryption of the voice data (similar to voice privacy option that's in some of the mobile handsets). The communication channels that I am looking at are GSM, GPRS and UMTS. As an example, if I talk over, say, GSM channel - the data-in-air must be encrypted. Similarly, if I send an SMS, the floating-data must be encrypted. However, to start with, I do not know anything about how it can be programmed in Windows CE. I am, actually, working on Windows Mobile profile... however, would prefer to be on Windows CE (4.x, 5.x) including also the PocketPC and Smartphone.     - .net - hard to deploy on pocket pc Hi, i am going to create app for pocket pc. I'd like to use .Net, but it am afraid of deployment. I mean, there is no .net libraries on most default windows ce installations (am i correct?). So, i have to ask user to install one before she install by app. But compact framework is quite big (pocket pc users often use gprs), and installing it requite few additional user activities. May be that is why there are not many .net applications for pocket pc.     - ActiveSync provider does not enumerate PDA modifications? I have an interesting (?) question for you ActiveSync gurus out there. I have a custom ActiveSync 4.x provider, which implements FindObjects() and works fine when a PDA device is connected to the desktop for the first time. However, when running File >> Synchronize command while a PDA is continuously connected, ActiveSync fails to pick up any (new) changes. FindObjects() is never called again to re-enumerate the latest changes, I think ActiveSync 4.x expects to detect a change to one of its files or databases, and be informed of required synchronization steps through handling ONF_DELETED, ONF_CHANGED, etc. The problem is, with Windows Mobile 5.0, EDB database records are not "object store" entities (as was the case with Windows Mobile 2003/SE and CDB), thus do not receive ONF_* notifications when a record changes. Question: is there any way to ask ActiveSync to re-enumerate completely through FindObjects() every time File >> Synchronize command is selected by a user?     - 2005 Emulator I've written an app with VC++ 2005 and it works great on the Pocket PC with Windows Mobile 2003. We have a customer that uses Windows Mobile 2005 and has a problem. I've installed the 2005 SDK but I cannot create an app to run in the 2005 emulator. It says something to the effect of "you don't have a 2005 device installed". Question: Can I run an app in the 2005 emulator if I don't have a 2005 device installed? You would think this would be possible. So you can test your app in any number of emulators.     - RAPI Restricted Mode Security & VS 2005 Smart Device CAB Project I am attempting to satisfy the requirements of "RAPI Restricted Mode Security" so that I can use CeRapiInvoke on Pocket PC Phone edition devices.     - Find rare bugs - SEH and c++ exception handling I'm currently hunting a "rare" bug in a MFC PocketPC program, which causes the program to just "disapear" from the screen. I'm using VS2005 and the program targets PocketPC 2003 devices. The same Executable also runs on WM5 PocketPCs. The bug is not reproducible and occours without user interaction (there are some background threads in the application). How can I find such a bug? I checked lots of documentation and googled on the Web, but could not find good method: a) Postmortem debugging / Dr. Watson On WM5 it seems to be possible to write a crash dump (resp. Dr. Wastson Log) and to do some postmortem debugging using the dump. Unfortunately all the documentation I found referenced Platform Builder but none mentioned VS2005. So I'm not sure whether it is at all possible to do this with VS2005 b) Exception Handling VS2005 supports SEH as well as C++ exception handling. SEH would probably report the crash, but does not unmangel the stack (destructors are not called) which is a problem in multithreaded programs (locks!). C++ exceptions are not really helpful to find this bug, because it does not give you information about the exception. In the WIN32 Api there exists the function _set_se_translator that allows you to handle a SEH exception as C++ exception. Unfortunately this function does not seem to exist for the PocketPC.     - problem in recording wave file Hello everyone If some can solve it please I can spend my weekend in peace... I am recording microphone data on a pocket pc and saving it to a wave file... I am following the general basic steps as follows start recording =========== waveinOpen->waveInPrepareHeader->waveInAddBuffer->waveInStart by default i am recording 7 seconds of speech... all works fine if i wait for 7 seconds and wait for the WIM_DATA to get fired automatically wherein i write my buffer to a wave file...where i also use waveInUnprepare and waveInClose after writing is finish problem starts when I stop recording midway by clicking the stop button where i call waveinStop()->waveInReset() (which should eventually fire the WIM_DATA and send the buffer as DONE) my system 1) either goes in an infinite hang OR 2) if somehow it does not hang no buffer data is passed..its all empty.... what modification I need to do... any help is highly appreciated...     - i-mate K-Jam not waking on notification Please can anyone help. We have an application that need to run at specific times. We use CeSetUserNotificationEx and CNT_TIME to achieve this. It works fine on all 2003 devices and most WM5 devices. BUT, we seem to have an issue with the i-mate K-Jam ( WM5 ). If the notification is set, and the power button pressed ( quickly, not a full power down as this device supports this ), but just put into sleep the notifications will not trigger. If the time elapses, and you power the device on, the notifications then trigger, as though the device was not sleeping, but off. The built in alarms work fine, and incoming calls are ok, so the device is just sleeping, not off. We seem to be at a loss with this device. Has anyone got any thoughts ? I have hardly any programs on the phone itself. No Midglets, No pictures or Music. In Fact, I have less on the phone itself than when I first bought the phone. I deleted a lot of pictures and sample pictures. When I try and send an MMS, I get this "There is not enough free space for message sending. Please free up some space and try again. "I have deleted all I can except delete the operating system off the original drive. Is there virtual memory taking up space or is there some files that I deleted that I cannot see and are hidden? When i connect a pocetpc to the system where i have my application running it should check for some files in the PocketPC if the files are not there i need to send the files to pocketpc. But what happens is the activesync is getting the control when i connect the PocketPC and the user is able to Explore the files in PocketPC.     - Fullscreen or Kiosk App Problem Hi All, I'm working on a Full Screen/Kiosk dialog mode application that works fine whilst I'm testing it. However, if I leave it a few hours the task bar appears. I have created a base class for all my dialogs which destroys the EmptyCB member; sets the window to foreground; calls SHFullScreen and enlarges the window to full screen (240x320). I've overridden the WM_ACTIVATE message for both the WA_ACTIVE and WA_CLICKACTIVE substates. I've also tried to see which messages my window is getting when it goes wrong so I could intercept it, but to no avail - it looks as though it's not getting any messages. Is it some sort of timer or alarm going off? Why is it not "transmitting" a WM_ACTIVATE message to my window? Any help would be great!!!!     - PocketPC Database Question. Hi all, I've been assigned the task of porting parts of our product over to the Symbol MC-9060 RFID Handheld unit which runs PocketPC 2003. I've been a developer for almost 10 years now, and just starting on the Pocket PC Bandwagon... This unit is pretty slick, has the traditional WIFI/ActiveSync/Bluetooth PocketPC features. Our product typically runs Client/Server using TCPIP. Unfortunately, our product uses a proprietary database (I know, I know.. ) & Due to the nature of the environment our customers work in, not all customers are capable of having wireless-networks in and around the building. Our preliminary thought is that we would allow the customer to a) use the wireless network if its available b) if no wireless network, copy portions of the database to the handheld unit. In both cases, we would like to be able to make reads/updates to our database, whether is an instant update, or its done on the handheld, then "synced" back into the database when the handheld is dropped in the cradle. Does ActiveSync have a mechanism where you can write code to dump other types of databases/files etc to the handheld unit? Is there some interface into ActiveSync I can utilize to essentially "merge" changes from the handheld unit to the PC? I would appreciate any feedback or thoughts you may have .....     - Detect "unattended" mode? I have a car navigation application that has an option to disable the OS auto-shutoff so that when it is being used for long periods without any user input, it still continues to run, of course. However, there is a problem when I "turn off" (suspend) the unit (using the power button) while the application is running. Basically, if left in this state, it appears that when the nightly "unattended" mode activates (to update alarms and such, I believe), the unit never powers back off -- because the navigation app is still running and re-disables the auto-shut-off -- even from the "unattended" state. So, in the morning, the battery is either dead or much lower. Is there any way to programmatically detect that the unit is on in "unattended" mode for the nightly stuff?     - Program file placement when building cab Hello, I am trying to build a cab using VS2005. I need certain some dlls and other files to be placed into specific directories on the target devices. My approach has been to construct a cab project and to add the new files to the Program Files Folder. I then go to Properties for these files and under TargetName, change the file name, say from: trythis.dll to: \Program Files\MyProgramName\SupportFiles\trythis.dll. This doesn't seem to be appreciated by VS2005. How else can I direct files to be loaded into specific directories other than say Windows or Program Files? Thanks.     - Windows Media Encoder 9, Pocket PC content @ 640x480? Folks, A couple of months ago, I've used Windows Media Encoder 9 to produce some content for a Pocket PC running Windows Mobile 5. At the time, I was in a hurry and could only produce video at 320x240. That seemed to be the default option when I choose 'Pocket PC' as delivery platform. Over the next couple of days, I'd like to produce another short video targetting a Dell Axim with a 640x480 screen. Hello group

I am writing numerous apps and always trying to make them compatible to all
kinds of standards for PPC2002, WM2003 and WM5. That's why I'm still using
good ol' PPC2002 SDK.

I read that WM5 automatically shows the commandbar with softkeys if there
are at most two menu items in it and no toolbar buttons. And this also
works with my programs that have only two menu branches in the commandbar.

However, when I clear the "popup" style of an item in order to have a
simple menu button with text (like the left soft key in MS's calendar
application to switch between views), the menu is shown old style again
(like in WM2003), and the black 1px top border of the menubar is not shown
but seems to be occupied by the app window.

Is it possible to get rid of the described problem using the PPC2002 SDK?
I don't really want to change to a newer SDK because I want to support
older devices as well as long as possible.
