    - Problems installing Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC SDK! Hi, I have VS 2005 installed on Windows XP Pro with SP2 installed, and it works great. Now, however, I've lost many hours trying to install the WM5.0 Pocket PC SDK. When I downloaded the WM5.0 Pocket PC SDK, and attempted to install it, it went fine for awhile, and then Microsoft Antispyware noticed the scripts running, and gave me an endless sequence of warning dialogs asking me whether I wanted to allow the current script. I told it to allow them, and to remember the response, but the dialogs kept coming. Eventually I had to halt the installation, and turn off MS Antispyware. When I tried to re-run the installation, it thought it was already installed, so I selected the "Repair" option. It got most of the way through the process, but eventually it just stopped responding, behind the scenes. The installation dialog remained on the screen, as if everything was going along fine, and the only enabled button was "Cancel". But for more than half an hour the Task Manager said that the installation process was using 0% of the processor, and clearly nothing was happening on the machine. The same thing happened when I tried to uninstall it. It also happened when I tried to re-install it. I've tried each of them a number of times. During these attempts, MS Antispyware was turned off, as well as Norton Internet Security and Norton Antivirus. Anyway, I can't install it, I can't uninstall it, and I can't repair it. In each case it merrily goes through most of its process and then behind the scenes, stops doing anything -- leaving only the "Cancel" button enabled. The login form should be displayed and the Splash page hidden. It works right up until the Load event ends. Then the hidden Splash page is AGAIN displayed, even after I told it to Hide.     - Windows Mobile vs Pocket PC vs CE vs Phone Edition? I'm building an SQL Server CE Edition solution using VB Embedded 3.0 on my Windows Mobile v5.0 HP iPaq Pocket PC. I have clients that want this same solution to be installed on their Windows Mobile 2003 Phone Edition devices. Is there any difference with the Phone Edition ?? Will an VB Embedded3.0 using SQL Server CE Edition work on all these operating systems and devices.     - Windows Mobile 5 Security Model Folks, I, like a lot of others, have been working to move environments from WM 2003 to WM5. In my case I have developed a Portable Operating Environment that customises settings, install applications etc, for a range of devices in a large enterprise. I have used a mixture of XML provisioning and custom applications to achieve this. With WM 5 the security model has caused me some difficulty. Specifically the problems that I had to resolve were: - allow RAPI calls to work. - install cabs silently. These cabs are a mixture of our own and third party. To resolve these problems I have written a custom application to change the security settings as well as signing the cabs and custom applications using a certificate created from a self signed root certificate. The concerns I have going forward are these: - The MobileToMarket code/cab signing process is really not suitable for an Enterprise. To have to constantly send binaries and cabs for signing by third parties is not practical imo. I believe provision should be made for code signing installation within an enterprise. I note in the Windows Mobile Team blog that there are issues installing certificates with Smart Phones (http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2005/11/03/488924.aspx#comments) as well. - Robert Levey advised (http://msdn.microsoft.com/newsgroups/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.pocketpc.developer&mid=540a5669-97f9-44ff-aa09-59f291b8858a&sloc=en-us) in response to an earlier post of mine that we can not rely on being able to manipulate the security model in the future. If this is the case then Microsoft will have to provide a means of tailoring devices to suit an enterprise's needs, again imo. These issues lead me to wonder if WM5 devices are really suitable for deployment in an enterprise.     - Web application vs mobile web application Hi all, I am new to mobile web application and I am assigned to do some changes to the existing .net application. The application is a .net web application, and the hand held scanner is used to access the web forms. Till now, I thought it is only possible to access the web forms if they were developed using mobile web forms. But these forms were not developed using mobile web forms instead they were developed using asp.net. Is it possible to develop the application using .net and access through the handhelds?     - ATL in Visual Studio 2005 Hello All: Has the ATL wizard been goofed up in Visual Studio 2005? When creating a new ATL smart device project in C++, and adding an interface and building the generated code, a ton of missing symbols and types are reported. It looks like the root of the problem is related to CComSingleThreadModel, where the control I am creating was explicitly specified in the wizard to be free threaded. I downloaded CE platform builder but i read from microsoft that it does not build a pocket pc platform.     - Unknown Version of .NET CF in a PocketPC Device I have just got a PocketPC device from Symbol Technology. I would like to know the version of .NET CF that has been installed in this device, and I have an application to check the version number. But the program returns with an unknown version number. The unknown version number is 1.0.4290.0. The only versions that I know of are: Base Ver 1.0.2268.0 SP1 1.0.3111.0 SP2 1.0.3316.0 Is the version 1.0.4290.0 the SP3 version of .NET CF? I find the version number by using a .NET CF application program using the function System.Environment.Version.     - bluetooth and C# 2.0 Hi All, I am newbie here. The problem : I have Qtek 2020i PDA with Windows Mobile 2003 SE. This PDA has bluetooth support. Also I have a GPS module Asus BT-100 with bluetiooth. So I need to write an application wich must do those things : 1. search for bluetooth devices 2. detect if one of them is BT-100 3. if so, then connect to it and read data from it.     - WM5, wceload with /nouninstall Folks, On a Dell Axim 51V I have noticed that the wceload /nouninstall switch appears to have no effect. That is, there is a line in Remove Programs for the application that was installed. With WM 2003 this did not occur. Are additional steps required on WM5 devices? It does not appear to matter whether I install the cabs silently or not.     - RPN Registration fiasco Over the last few weeks, I've switched my products to use the RPN registration algorithm found on Handango, PocketGear, PocketLand, Mobihand and others. Now, on the day of release, I've discovered that the RPN implementation IS DIFFERENT amongst the various distributors. ARGH!!! The crux of the difference is that Handango is using 32 bit integers for intermediate RPN calculations while Pocketland and Mobihand are using 16 bit integers for intermediate RPN calculations. I don't know what PocketGear is doing yet. For the simple demo RPN string of: User Name = "Will P" RPN string = "i 0 == 111 * key + c 2 * +" the 16 and 32 bit versions produce the same results, but more complex RPN strings and longer User Names can easily overflow and produce different results. Has anyone either: 1. Screamed in anguish at the distributors, trying to make them converge on a single implementation? If so, what did they say? 2.     - PocketPC force https to use TLS We post some xml to https as shown below. The server supports SSL 3.0 and TLS. We wnat to force the PocketPC 2003 application to only use TLS for FIPs compliance. Is that possible? I see in .Net non-CF that you can do something like System.Net.ServicePointManager.SecurityProtocol = SecurityProtocolType.Tls; but that does not sem to be supportted on CF. Now there could be a bug in the RelayoutDialog function or possibly in the wizard generated code that uses it. Either way, when the OnSize message is processsed and I've either changed the orientation of the screen or minimized (I replaced the ok button with the smart minimize x) and maximized again, the gui defaults to the default layout of the dialog template and not the state of the window controls before the screen changed.     - EDB Databases Hello all. I recently converted my CEDB databases to EDB. I just got my application up and running and I noticed that these new database function seem to be take a lot longer to work then the CEDB functions. I used to use ADOCE which seemed really fast, then I changed to CEDB, which seemed slightly slower, and now I am crawling along with EDB. Is there any chart out there and I can see the time differences when calling different functions?     - Camera preview orientation on HTC-Universal Hi, after I actually got the capture and filter to work, I am having a strange problem. The input from the camera gets displayed "flipped over the diagonal", meaning it is rotated by 90 degrees and then flipped horizontally. And this changes depending on screen rotation. While I can rotate the image manually by writing a filter (I already did), it is certainly the wrong way and will cut off 1/4 of the image (if I do it per in-place-filter). How can I tell the output renderer to NOT rotate / flip the content? The original video recording app can do it correctly, so there must be some flags on that camera or output renderer to set.     - LSP issues on WM5.0... I have few questions related to LSP on WM50: 1. SSL LSP and Auto_bind lsp have no ORDER key in the registry, it means any one of them can load on the top. But I always see that Auto_bind getting loaded at the top of SSL LSP. It may be some magic done by MSFT internally. But I am wondering why there is no ORDER key has been defined for these keys. Is there any reason? 2. I want to load my LSP on the top. So I have defined ORDER key for Autobind and SSL in the registery, so that myLSP loads on the top. But in this case I have noticed that Auto_Bind does not getting loaded into Device.exe. If I do not define Order key for Autobind and let it load in the last then it will get load into Device.exe. Any idea, why it so? 3. Services.exe loads all the LSPs (which is not the case on PPC2003), hence, myLSP is also loaded into Services.exe. From the log generated from myLSP, I found out that next provider's WSPSocket() called is failed with Error code 10009. Any idea about this failure? I do not see any such failure in other executables like device.exe, rapiclnt.exe, repllog.exe, iexplore.exe etc. Overall, Autobind and DTPT lsps introduced in WM50 casuing lots of trouble to LSP developers. I've been looking everywhere to try and find out the optimal size for Java
applications aimed at the Windows Mobile 5.0 MIDlet Managers.

I've tried various sizes and they always appear pixellated - and it seems
that it appears identically regardless of the size use. I had a similar
problem with the previous Pocket PC OS.

Hope someone can help (and sorry if this is the wrong place for such a post,
but it's the most promising I've found so far),
