    - Stop the madness - please help? Hi I am completely new to Mobile Development. It has always intrigued me though and I have decided that it is time that I give it a try. So I have come up with what I would see as a simple little application that if I was to do in VB or C# could probable knock up in a few hours. How ever my biggest hurdle so far has been trying to get started. There just seems like so many different things that are needed. What I need really is some direction to stop the madness, and put some order to the information that is just jumbled round in my head. My planed application will need to store data in a relational manner. So - Add, Edit and Deleting is required. I have an XDA2 with Windows Mobile 2003. I plan to develop my application in C# and use SQL CE to store the data. I have installed Dot.Net on my Machine and I have doe a simple Hello world application and tested it in the emulator. I know that SQL CE is based in the JET database design but how do you set it up and use it. The stuff I have read is confusing me really. It says that you need a Tool kit, IIS and SQL Server 2000 SP1 or greater just to work. That sounds to me like a lot of stuff. I have XP Professional with IIS, Dot.Net Professional and SQL Server 2000. I will install the Service pack tonight. I think I have installed the correct tool kit. I also installed the SQL CE Development and Server tools. I still am at a loss as to what to do next in normal application development to obvious thing is build the database. But using what? There doesnâ??t seem to be a development environment for SQL CE. So if some one could write a list of the basic step by step procedures that a developer would go through to setup a development environment, and the applications that would be used to develop a simple database driver windows mobile application. And the process that I would go through to test the application. Like should I use the emulators till I get it working then test it on my XDA or do I need both.     - How can I play a Divx File with WMP10 mobile? Hello, I want to play a divx file with Windows Media Player 10 Mobile on the PPC2003. Is there any way to do this? I think there are two ways. 1.     - Database Damaged Hi I developed a program via SQL CE 2.0 & VB.net & CF. sync data by RDA. About 100 PDAs run this program, but some database will be damaged after a few daily work. I try to compact the damaged database but be failed.     - detecting memory leaks Hello all - I recently started on a bigger win ce project, and as of now, I don't really know a good and effective way to detect memory leaks, and how to track them down (i.e. where they're stemming from). Maybe some of you more experienced EVC gurus could help me (as well as almost every other developer on this list) out? Are there ways of tracking down memory leaks in EVC++ 4.0?     - OpenNETCF.dll I am trying to use OPENNETCF.IO to use the Infrared port (IR) on my pocket pc. So I downloaded the sample SerialCSharp.sln from OpenNETCF.     - background image doesn't fit into coords Hello, I'm drawing an image as background in my OnPaint handler with dimensions set to client coords but if I start my program a vertical black line with 1 px width appears on the left (it seems that the img doesn't fit into client coords).     - Deployment and Volatile memory Hi, I am using Visual Studio 2003 to write a program for a HP iPAQ. When ever I run it from the IDE, it copys the program to the PDA under My Device\Program Files\XYZ\XYZ.exe where XYZ is the name of my project. First i want to tell you exactly what is happening .As i ahve used the debugger r it is not generating any error at any sort of point .it is moving with ease. Then i thought why not to check the path i was providing to the files which my exe looks for at run time .I have got some files which i used to copy in to my emulator device at location"My Device" at this place my exe is also formed. so when i cliciked the exe it is working fine. Later i checked the path on my device and i did found i was placing it at wrong place . so now i brought all my files and release exe in "My Device" of my pocket pc device.And iwhen i clicked it my exe came into operation and when it moved little bit further it showed up me the same error again " out of memory".Then i loaded my debug version of my exe onto the device and when i clicked my exe it gave me error.Path for some the files missing or all the files are not being loaded..     - Pocket PC emulator slow on startup Hi If i start my application in Debug mode the pocket pc emulator needs up to 5minutes (sometimes more) to start up the app. I stepped throught the program. Most of the time (90%) is "wasted" in CreateWindow(). Some of my colleagues have the some problem, some not. The ones without the problem have a startup time about 15 seconds.     - Link fails at CoInitialize Okay...I'll admin I'm new to trying to develop for the PocketPC (PPC2k3SE to be exact). I'm not the most brilliant windows programmer, but know enough to get by. However, I'm stumped here. I'm using VS2005(beta) and trying to link a simple MFC Dialog app for PPC. The wizard generated the code, and that all linked find. So, in the OnInitDialog function I simply added CoInitialize(NULL); pretty simple (yeah...should probably use the Ex version...) I included <objbase.h> into my project and added ole32.lib to the link line, however I keep getting: Linking...     - Using SHFS_HIDESIPBUTTON in MFC app Hi Ya'll, I'm using MFC Single Document with CFormView. I want to hide the SIP using SHFullScreen(AfxGetMainWnd()->m_hWnd, SHFS_HIDESIPBUTTON). Microsoft documentation say that you have to execute SHFullScreen doing a hide before the main window is displayed (drawn). I can't get a SIPless first screen no matter where I put the SHFullScreen function. I've tried locating the function in the App, MainFrame, Doc, and View code. It only goes away when I force a redraw after the first display. Arrrggggghhhhh! Does anybody know how to display the first screen without having the SIP button display?     - GetClientRect gives the wrong client size for PDA with VGA screen Hi, I have a problem with GetClientRect function. It gives the wrong client size for PDA with VGA screen (e.g. HP iPAQ hx4700). I calculate the client screen size on OnInitialUpdate event. Client size should be 480x536, but GetClientRect gives 480x562. I'm using eVC++ 4.0 sp3/WM 2003 SDK I suspect this problem was caused by the ininitial size of "CCeCommandBar". But, I'm sure about this. Interestingly though, After WM_SETTINGCHANGE event has been called, GetClientRect give the right size! How to work around this problem?     - Copying files to PPC during install process I am looking to create an installer that will not only install my application to a PPC but will also generate an ini file and copy it to the PPC as well. I can use CEAppMgr and a CAB file to install the PPC application. The challenge is copying over the ini file. I cannot place the ini file in the CAB file as the ini file is generated during installation (it is based on user input). The solution I have come up with is to generate the CAB file during the installation process. The trouble with this is that the end user will have to have cabwiz.exe installed on their computer (unless I distribute it with the installer).     - DLL function exports issue Hi all, I've got a bit of a mind-bending problem to do with a DLL that I have compiled incorporating AODV routing functionality. I have added external methods within the DLL that enable me to return data, such as the routing table, end to end packet delay etc, a bit like the Microsoft IP Helper API. I have a C# program which PInvokes these methods from the aodv.dll file, for example GetRoutingTable(). Just as a test, I put in an external method within the aodv.dll file which displays a MessageBox. In my C# file I made a reference to this function and on the emaulator, this seems to work absolutely fine, displaying the message box Targetting it to the iPAQ h5550 device Im using, and it doesnt work. it runs the external function and then simply exits the C# program without displaying the message box. Does anyone have any ideas? A seperate question - I am very new to writing DLLs, especially drivers.     - Developing PocketPC Applications Hi, I'm a second year Computer Science student at Manchester University, in the UK, and I have to decide what to do for my 3rd year project quite soon. I would really like to develop some sort of application for a mobile device such as a Pocket PC. The program would be written in C#. I'm desperate to get involved in the .NET platform and handheld devices for my job when I'm older, which is why I want to do my final year project on these things. I'm considering creating some sort of an email program - like a scaled-down version of Outlook Express, but for a handheld device. I could possibly add in capabilities for handling attachments and multiple email accounts if this were possible. Does anyone know how feasable this would be?? However, I'm not quite sure how difficult all this would be, or if it's possible, and I don't really know where to get information from about developing C# applications for mobile devices. If anyone can give me any help whatsoever (useful websites, which handheld devices would be best to work with, possible ideas for applications other than an email program... anything!) then it would be greatly appreciated.     - imgdecmp.dll (and SHLoadImage****) Hi all, I've tried creating bitmaps using both imgdecmp.dll and SHLoadImage**** and (whatever the source) if I use SHLoadImage**** (or if I use imgdecmp with 16 bit set) then the returned bitmaps are always RGB 555. I want RGB 565, is there any way to get this using either imgdecmp or SHLoadImage*** ? At the moment all I can do is use imgdecmp for 24-bit and then convert to 565 from the 24-bit bitmap - but this seems wasteful of memory (even though the bitmap is discarded afterwards).
