    - Changing Registry question Hi, I need to invoke my application on press of the hardware button. I understand that I need to change the settings in the pocket pc. In the Settings -->Personal --> Buttons. My questions are, 1) How can I add my application in the "Assign a Program" drop down list? Is there any API available for this? 2) If I need to invoke my application by press and holding a hard key button, will it be possible in the Pocket PC by modifying the setting? Is it possible to add another entry in the Buttons list in Settings like "Button (Hold)"? Is there any API available? I believe that this can be done by modifying the settings in the registry.     - application version Hello, Using the net framework v1.1, If I want to capture the application's version all I had to do was to use "Application.ProductVersion" code. For the .net compact framework the "Application.ProductVersion" is not available. How can I get the compiled .exe version of the file using .net compact framework?.     - opening Contacts Dialogue How can i programatically open the Contact detail Dialogue that shows the details about a given contact (i.e. the various phone numbers, address, emails etc. ) I have found that i can send a message to the Phone dialogue to do this IF that dialogue was previously opened.     - VS 2003 debugging apps I use VS 2003 as my dev platform working with Windows Mobile 2003 SE. When I run my application from the designer, it deploys to the connected device and runs fine. However, when I close the app either on the device itself, or by stopping the debugging from VS, the app remains in memory on the device. I know that closing apps on a pocketpc keeps them in memory which is fine, but if i close it on my dev machine, the app doesnt close in VS, and if I close the app on the pocketpc, VS doesnt seem to see that is closed.     - prevent PIN lock Is there any method that I can use to prevent the PIN lock. SystemIdleTimerReset does not work. I want it for when I am on the phone and do not have to unlock to take off of mute! I would turn it off but it is an enforced policy (through MSFP).     - VS 2005 PPC/SP Emulator - No such interface supported Been using VS 2005 for months. All of a sudden I can not deploy my C++ or C# applications to the WM 5.0 emulators (Pocket PC or Smartphone) for debugging. If I click on the device manager button in VS I get an error message "No such interface supported." Click OK and VS 2005 will then crash.     - ActiveSync Desktop Service Provider Hi everyone, I'm experiencing problems implementing an ASSP (i.e. IReplStore etc.) What bothers is me that the Initialize() method is called with uFlags always set to 0x00000000 but it should either be 0x00000001 or 02. Another thing is that after calling Init() the service manager hangs until I pull off the connection cord. Now, the "Ask for Combine or Discard" dialog appears and things go on... Upon next connection the same hang occurs.. By now all my replstore methods are merely dummy implementations returning S_OK or wahtever but doing nothing. Does this ring a bell?     - directshow + graph problem Hi, i have a directshow app in c++ that runs a pipeline to capture images live from the camera and.. do some processing on them. I do this using a null renderer and setting a appliation callback function in the filter. The problem I am facing is with stopping the graph. I know that when the pipeline receives S_FALSE from anyof the processing methods. I have built my app around this construct. I return S_FALSE from the application's callbck function if I find somethin interesting else return S_OK. My graph stops in most cases, but with various builds(on different devices like PPC and SPs) its behavior is really flaky; the graph simply does not stop. Is there any aother way raising a speciific event from my application's callback function so that the mesage is cascaded up the pipeline..? I am listening for EC_COMPLETE and EC_USERABORT.     - Help for wifi problem My device is HTC wizard. I can get all available APs (mac, rssi, ssid) by using WZCQueryInterface(). But if I go to somewhere else, for example, some place far away from here, I can still get these APs (mac, signal strength, ssid) which are not available at all at that place by using WZCQueryInterface(). That means, I can not only get current placeâ??s APs but also the stale APs I can previously get(their signal strength never change since they are out of sight). Then the number of APs are becoming more and more when I travel around. Only by turning wifi off and turning it on again manually can correctly get AP of current place.     - Language of Cingular 8125 (Win Mobile 5.0) hi Guys I am using GetUserDefaultUILanguage() and GetSystemDefaultUILanguage() to get the current systems language and load the appropriate language resource file. It seems the code is working fine, when call it, it returns me 0x0409 which is US-English, but even after I change the language settings (see below point-2), to German or something else, it always returns me the same. My Question is 1) Is the function GetUserDefaultUILanguage() and GetSystemDefaultUILanguage() to be used for retreiving the current user and system language for PPC with Windows Mobile 5.0? 2) Is this the right way to change the system language ?Start->Settings->System->Regional Settings->Region ? if not then can you please point me the right way? 3) Is there a way to change the device language to Arabic/Chinese/Japanese which does not use character set similar to english ??     - Problems With dynamic menus and VS2005 I am trying to port our application from eVC4 to VS2005 so we can better support Windows Mobile 5.     - GDI clean up problem Hi I am working on WinCe project In which i am loading number of bitmap objects using BitBlt function As per my understanding BitBlt allocates a memory block in the gwes process heap. Now my problem is I want to free the memory allocated in the gwes heap when i dont require the bitmap anymore. Please can u let me know any method by which i can free this memory and reuse it again for different bitmap as my memory requirement is very critical. Here is the code what I am using to load a bitmap image. When I create a brush using CreatePatternBrush The memory allocated is twice the size of the loaded image( say IMAGE 1) for eg In my case the image size is 152 k hence the memory allocated is 304 k. and when i delete the brush object It only recovers 152 k while the other 152 k is not recovered. When I load a new bitmap image I face the same problem Now when I load the same image IMAGE 1 then the CreatePatternBrush allocates just 152 k and frees it when i call deleteobject.which is true for every loaded image. But i am not able to recover the memory leaked while loading every new image. As per my Application is fully graphical and the memory requirement are very critical I want to able to retrieve the memory allocated by bitmaps which are not required.which I am not able to do. I then tried to load the image using BitBlt which is showing me the same type of problem that is the memory is not recovered. I read somewhere that GDI takes some time to clean up the unused memory.Is it that which is causing this leak. Please let me know what I can do solve this problem. Shankar Tag: Hardware setup.     - SetFilePointer too slow??? Hi All I have written a dll code in EVC 4.0 where in one of my exported function makes heavy repeated calls of SetFilePointer. On careful examination I found out that this function is making the entire function operation drastically slow. Is there any work around or an alternative to use instead of using SetFilePointer.     - Multiple Cabs Installation Hello >From the Desktop->Pocket PC installation point of view: I used NSIS for multiplecabs and i have to wait until each cab is installed-> press OK on the Pocket PC and than press OK on the Desktop to pass to the copy/installation of the next cab. >From the direct Pocket PC executing existing multiple cabs: After the first cab is installed , it doesn't pass to the installation of the second cab , instead the screen with Installation Complete etc. and OK button appears. Microsoft Visual Studio's Cabwiz doesn't have the options to remove that screen. Can somebody tell me if its possible to install on the Pocket PC multiple cabs consecutively without the user needing to press the ok button after each cab?     - Installation warning Hi there, Environtment: Microsoft Visual Studio 8. I'm writing an application for several platforms (pocketpc 2003 SE, SM2003..). When I install my application on a PocketPC 2003 device (e.g. Qtek S100 or HP 6515) I get an installation warning (something to do with "a" early version. I translate from spanish: "The installed program might not work properly because it was designed using an earlier version").     - License plate recognition on Symbol MC9062 Hi guys, In our company we have a bunch of MC9062 symbol to read barcodes to handle logistics movement inside an area. We developed a simple web application that is accessible by pdas via wi-fi that read barcodes, handle access, permission etc. Now we would like to associate the barcode to the license plate of each vehicle. The process of inserting it with keypad or other hand solution would slow the process and create queues outside the buildings. So we were thinking of some kind of license plate recognition system. Do you know any solution that would be available for MC9062 and that we should integrate with our web application (the matter is just passing the license plate number to a form field)?     - Help with my Outlook Email Setup on Windows Mobile 5.0 I need some help setting up email on my handheld devide to efficiently sync with Outlook on my Laptop. In Outlook on my PC I have multiple Gmail accounts setup. Emails from these accounts come into the same Inbox folder (within the same Outlook Data File, of course). Whenever I respond to an email, the reponse is sent from the Gmail account that the email was originally sent to. Is there any way to emulate this on my handheld? I have no problem synching the Outlook Inbox on the handheld. However, to check email while on the road, I have to setup each Gmail account separately. The emails are downloaded into separate inboxes within their respective account folders. Because of this any reading/responding/deleting of emails I do on the phone does not sync to Outlook on my PC. This sux because I have to maintain the separate POP accounts on the handheld as well as my Outlook Inbox. Does anybody else have a similiar PC setup to mine that can offer any insight or suggestions. They'd be greatly appreciated. Even though I don't know much about them, I have a feeling that an exchange server (or possibly Cingular Xpress Mail) may be the only solution for my problem. THanks in advanced for any help!     - hp4700 display Hi, I recently upgraded my hp4700 from the 2003 OS to the new Windows Mobile 5.0 version. Now our Pocket PC application (NETCF 2.0 App) is displayed much smaller on the screen. (As if it was a Smart Phone.). All the controls on the forms are squezzed. If I load my application on a pre-loaded hp unit with Win 5.0 OS, it looks fine.     - Threads inside services.exe I am working on a project that has thousands of Windows CE 4.2 devices in production. All devices are leveraging the Microsoft SMS Client for CE--it runs as a service (through services.exe). I am 99.9% sure that a particular thread inside of DMTMGT.dll (again, which runs within the process space of services.exe) is hanging and thrashing the processor. I can see the thread in Kernel Tracker and even Entrek's ProcMan. But what I can't do is definitively trace this particular thread to the SMS service DLL. Is there any tool that would allow me to determine a thread's parent service DLL (in other words, show that my particular thread is owned by DMTMGT.dll)?     - Problem - How can I disable WM 5.0 Flight Mode ?? I have some WM5.0 devices out with clients. Problem is from time to time the battery goes low and flight mode kicks in. If they then recharge the device flight mode is still disabled preventing them from syncing over GPRS back to my server. I guess, I found the answer. I need ActiveSync 4.1. Then I can tell
ActiveSync to upload the application image to i-Mate K-Jam. Am I talking
sensible? Any expert can opine/correct me comments...

Yes, you need to install ActiveSync 4.1. Then choose "Windows Mobile 5.0
Pocket PC Device" in the "Device" toolbar.
