    - Database options: Sql CE, Pocket Access, Sql 2005? I need to implemente a database footprint on my pocket-pc device (windows mobile 2003). I see there are the following options: Sql CE, Pocket Access, and Sql 2005 (possibly still in beta?). My application requires Merge Replication w/ Sql Server 2003. My question or confirmation is: I should use Sql CE unti Sql 2005 is available, correct? Or is Pocket Access capable of Merge Replication, and more "light weight"?     - Printing RTF file w/ embedded images (HP Mobile Printing) Using the latest version of HP Mobile Printing on PPC 2003, I am unable to print RTF files with embedded images in them. In the previous version of the software, I was able to do this. Is there a particular image format that is supported? The pocket pc emulation works great but when i choose pocket pc (pocket pc 2003)(both transport and stratup server i have kept on active sync) i receive the message of activesync: "unable to load side components Please check server configuration settings" I tried to connect to the pocket pc using only activesync and it worked perfectly, even i clicked the explore on the pocket pc and it worked fine but when trying to connect through the evc++4.o it genertaes error .Hope some one out there will help me to sort out this problem.     - Identifying an appointment as a Birthday event? I'm trying to identify if an existing, recurring appointment is a birthday event. MS-Outlook will create these recurring appointments if you define a birthday date in the Contacts database. If I scan the "appointments database" database, I do see field "0x0016 (BLOB)" having a unique value of "40 00 00 00" for all birthday appointments. Pocket-Outlook doesn't seem to provide any methods for their IAppointment object to determine if an appointment is a birthday event or not. I don't want to scan the appointment database directly from my application to check for this (since it is not recommended by MS).     - netcf.core.ppc3.ARM.cab poblem After successfully installing the "netcf.core.ppc3.ARM.cab" file on my Pocket PC device (QTEQ 2020, window pocket pc version 4.20.0 build 13252), i was trying to install my "Hello World" C# program that was developed in Visual Studio .NET 2003 IDE. i Draged & Dropped the right CAB file (HelloWorld_PPC.ARM.CAB) using ActiveSync 3.7 and tap on it. the error that i got was: "HelloWorld rquires the installation of netcf.core.pp3.arm.cab for it to run properly. Install the cab file before running the application". Well, of course that the error that was reported was wrong cause the necessary netcf cab file is already installed, or the installation of that file was not successfull even though there were no errors reported.     - waveOutGetPosition bug with TIME_MS I recently discovered a bug in waveOutGetPosition on some (maybe all?) Pocket PC's. The bug is the following: When position.wType = TIME_MS, a call to waveOutGetPosition(wave_handle, &position, sizeof(position)) is supposed to return the output wave position in milli-seconds in position.u.ms. See the documentation for waveOutGetPosition and MMTIME. But the value returned in position.u.ms is NOT the wave buffer position in milliseconds (e.g. on the e800, the value seems to be expressed in 1/100,000 sec). This problem likely comes from the fact that MSFT provided no test for the OEM to check the correct implementation of their audio driver with regard to this function. When position.wType = TIME_SAMPLES, position.u.sample is the correct number of un-played samples in the wave driver's queue. The TIME_SAMPLES case is well tested because that's how all the video applications get correct audio/video sync, so this case is in essence tested by WMP. I suspect that waveOutGetPosition with position.wType = TIME_MS (or values other than TIME_SAMPLES) is bogus or un-reliable on most (all?) Pocket PC's and Smartphone. It would be nice to document this "bug" or "feature", i.e. to indicate that on WinCE, only position.wType = TIME_SAMPLES is supported (and other values of position.wType will return random results).     - Capturing stylus clicks into a sequend, and then repeat them (macros) Hi What kind of applications are there that are able to capture the stylus clicks on a PPC device; and then replay the clicks later? ie. I want to record a sequence of stylus clicks on an application, and then use this sequence to do automated testing of some softwares. Does such tools exists for the PPC environment. Then just for curiousity, what API should I look at to get more information about this. Is it possible to capture the stylus clicks? It must be if you put a window on top of everything, that records the clicks. But how do you later fake a stylus click on an application?     - PPC-6000 and PocketPC App I have a PPC-6600 phone with 128 MB ram I have been testing an appliation on. The application uses Sybase SQLAnywhere database loaded on the phone and is written in Sybase Pocketbuilder. The app runs fine until a phone call is made where there is an answer. If the app was not running it will then no longer launch (the database does not start)or if the app is running the app gives error messages incidacting the database has been shut down and the database cannot be restarted.     - Negative difference between QueryPerformanceCounter values Hello, For an application I am writing I am time stamping each byte as it comes in. I am using the following code to read in the byte and record it as it comes in. I then find the difference between the times at which the bytes came and build a new array of time differences. The only thing is that sometimes I get negative values within this differential time array which doesnâ??t make much sense to me. Other times Iâ??ll get almost all negative values with a few positive ones. The only reasons I can think of is that the performance counter loops around and the occasional negative value is the result of this. But, does that explain the times when I get a majority of negative values with a few positives? If I replace the ReadFile with a sleep(10) I get times that make sense.     - Createprocess and login page Hello, I am using createprocess to call an application which needs the user to login. I have 2 buttons on the login page one is login and the other is exit, when I pass the username and password as Commandline args to Createprocess and try to login, instead of login the exit button is clicked. I can see the login page and the application immediately exits. The application to which I want the user to login is a 3rd party application so I cannot make any modifications to that. Is there a way that I can direct the control to the login button so that the user can log in. Also the user shouldnt know that he is logging to a 3rd party application so I cannot call createprocess without the arguments too. Any help is appreciated.     - HP 4700 slowwwwwwww deploy in Visual studio 2003? Hello Our company recently aquired an HP 4700 PDA for testing a PocketPC application. The overall size of the .NET dlls and executables for the application are less than 2MB and we connect using a fast USB port to a P-4 HT 3 GHz processor class machine on which we run MSVS 2003. For some reason the deployment is extremely slow when we try to deploy and debug from Visual Sudtio (Build->Deploy) or (Debug->Run). We tried deploying to both main memory as well as an SD card and in both instances the thing keeps deploying for 4-5 actual minutes. It works in the end but its very frustrating sitting there and waiting, especially since MSVS also freezes up during the time. Anyone had similiar experiences with the HP 4700? For first one all is clear - just take tools from MS site and start: - native or - NET level applications development. But what if I want more? If I wanna use very efficient DSP subsystem? - is there any SDK from HP? - is inter-core communication described anywhere? Questions are related to standard configuration - Win Mobile and so on - I just wanna to add my application to working system - do not break it . And DSP subsystem can provide necessary features (calculation power and effectiveness).     - How can I register my service in PocketPC ? Hi, I want to write an application that should be running all the time without user intervention. Initially, I thought of putting it in \windows\startup folder. In that case, the application will be launched automatically if the device is soft reset but if the application is manally stopped, then it will not be launched.     - Handling low memory? Any suggestions on this? I have a PPC application that currently just writes data to a file until the write fails. When the device was out of space it froze and was not even able to boot due to the no space condition. I was forced to do a hard reset. I thought the OS would take care of this, but I guess not. I've got some code that has been working great on a CE.Net 4.2 device. The code calls LoadLibrary to load in a custom DLL. The same device was upgraded to run Pocket PC Mobile Edition 2003. Now my software is failing at the LoadLibrary call. Calling GetLastError() returns "module not found". This situation perplexes me given that the library exists alongside the executable. Concerning the architecture, I have a principal application doing the treatments I want, and 2 "language-dlls" (one in english, one in french) which only contain the resources that I will use in the main application. So, according to the users language choice in the main programm, I load one or the other dll. For dynamically getting the Strings in the main prog, I use : int LoadString( HINSTANCE hInstance, UINT uID, LPTSTR lpBuffer, int cchBufferMax ); and it works well. Does anyone know whether it's possible to tweak the display driver etc. to output higher resolutions than VGA, e.g. SVGA (800*600) or XGA(1024*768)? The particular use isn't to run the PPC interface at a higher resolution but rather for a custom OpenGL app using the PowerVR OpenGL ES hardware accelerated implementation.
