About 6 months ago, for some reason, executing the PocketPC 2002
emulator would restart my machine. There were a number of posts about
this but I haven't yet seen a solution. I lived without using the
emulator (debugging to an actual device was faster anyway) but then
one day I happened to launch the emulator and it worked fine. Not sure
what changed. I've been using the emulator without fail since then.

However, yesterday, for no apparent reason, the problem started
happening again. Doing a search for this problem yields a number of
people with the problem but no apparent solution. I've tried
everything I can think of inclduing doing a system restore back to a
date when it was working. No luck.

Am I missing something or is this still an unknown problem? Any ideas
would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
//Ray

So you run the emulator and your computer just reboots with no blue screen
or message or anything? Which version of Windows are you running?

Exactly. I am running a dell 3ghz with WinXP prof.

After spending all day yesterday and most of the morning trying to get
the emulator to work, I gave up and decided to go back to debugging on
the device. That's when I remembered why I tried to use the emulator
in the first place. When I try to debug on the device, eVC3 just
hangs. The app gets downloaded to the device and is running but the
ide is completely hung. I did a complete uninstall/reinstall (yet
again) and that didn't help.

Therefore, no emulator and no device debugging. I'm pretty much stuck.

Hi,

I have the same problem on Win2k. For similar problems people
have changed cache settings, video drivers, and video cards.
When this happens to me (once in a blue moon) it sometimes is during
the startup of the emulator--BUT the emulator can cause this at any time,
so I just never leave it running when I'm not directly testing something.

Well as far as the debugging thing goes, I hope what you're trying to
debug is PPC 2000 compatible, because the PPC 2000 emulator seems
to have no such problem.

Hope this helps...

Awesome! Thanks. I had previously installed the 2003 SDK to see if I
could debug with that instead and noticed that the 2002 emulator
started working again. When it did, I figured it was a fluke and have
been concerned the problem would start to happen at any moment. Its
nice to know that it wasn't a fluke and that its been solved,
presumably for good.

However, I still can't debug the device. This has been working fine
and then just stopped working. The IDE hangs when starting the
debugger. I think it says "launching debugee" at the point it hangs.
The handheld app does get executed and is running even though the
debugger hung.

Any ideas?
Thanks again.

I had the same trouble Ray, It had been suggested at that time to
download the latest drivers for the video adapter of all things. I
did that and it worked for me.
