If you have installed your SDK you should find a directory "C:\Program
Files\Windows CE Tools\Common\Platman\bin". There you may find a
"cefilevw.exe" (Perheaps it's in the subdirectory "wce420"). After
starting this "Remote File Viewer" and add a connection to the "POCKET
PC 2003 Emulator" you can play around with the emulator. Sorry, but I
don't know any direct way to start the emulator. I just know the way via
one of these remote tools.

I wrote a .bat file to start the emulator, here's what's in it:

d:

cd Microsoft Visual Studio .NET
2003\CompactFrameworkSDK\ConnectionManager\Bin

emulator /ceimage "d:\program files\windows ce tools\wce420\pocket pc
2003\emulation\ppc_2003_wwe.bin" /skin "d:\program files\windows ce
tools\wce420\pocket pc 2003\emulation\pocket_pc_emulator_skin.xml"

you'll need to change the drive and paths to fit where you installed your
emulator.

I know this way and you are right, it starts the emulator. But I can't
transfer files to this emulator. If I start the Remote File Viewer and
try to connect to the emulator another emulator shows up. So, how can I
put files into my batch-started emulator? (Oh, no, not this Active Sync
stuff with null modem cable. My boss hasn't two RS232.)

I know, this doesn't really help: I just did it this way with the
computer of my boss (WinXP SP1) for the PPC2002 emulator. So this way
normally works. IIRC I read something about network connection in the
readme file of the SDK.

This is what I do. After installing the Pocket PC 2003 SDK:

1. Click Start, click Programs
2. Click Pocket PC 2003 SDK, then click Emulator

It starts right up without running eMbedded Visual C++.

I can't transfer files to this emulator. If I start the Remote File
Viewer and try to connect to the emulator another emulator shows up. So,
how can I put files into my start-menu-started emulator? (Oh, no, not
this Active Sync stuff with null modem cable. My boss hasn't two RS232.
And because we like to use the PPC2002 emulator, too, we cannot use
"Folder Sharing")

1. Use Folder Sharing (for Pocket PC 2003 emulator)
2. Connect the Pocket PC to a file share via File Explorer (for Pocket PC
2002)
3. If you are already using Remote File Viewer from eVC 3, use the
configuration menu to select the emulator you want (yes, it will start a new
instance of the same emulator)

How? I don't see anything on my PPC2002 Emulator for "file sharing".

No chance to connect to an already started emulator? But evc3 can do!

First, you need a shared folder somewhere on the network. Then:

1. On the Pocket PC, tap Start, then tap Programs
2. Tap File Explorer icon
3. On the menu bar, tap Open
4. Enter the UNC path to the file share, e.g. \\server\share

I don't know. Maybe someone else here knows for sure?
