Hi,

I'm planning to port a windows video editing software developed on the
Windows desktop to the CE platform. I am evaluating the technicalities
involved, and the main sticking issue is the dependency on Directshow
Editing Service. I am wondering if any of you could provide any pointers
if this service is available on the CE, or any of the extended platforms
such as the PocketPC/Smartphone?

I'm not familiar with DirectShow, so I probably don't have the definitive
answer on this, but I can say that, at a minimum, searching the CE docs for
terms like 'directshow editing service' didn't give me any hits. With that
said, searching all of MSDN (including the desktop docs), didn't give me any
hits either. Am I missing something? Where's the desktop version of this
functionality documented?

I can at least help for sure with Pocket PC and Smartphone, which don't
support DirectShow.

Thank you very much for your reply. DirectShow Editing Services
(DES) is part of the DirectX platform, and was introduced in DirectX
8. Functionalities of DES is found as part of the DirectX documentation.

I have the impression that DirectShow is available in a subset of
the WinCE platform, is that right? Would there be any plan to bring
DES to the PocketPC and Smartphone platform?

Thanks for the additional DES info. I found docs for the desktop
implementation on MSDN. Don't know why I didn't pick those up before.

Yes, OEMs that build devices that use Windows CE can choose to include
DirectShow. However, at least on the face of it, it doesn't look like the CE
implementation of DirectShow includes DES (or at least, none of the CE docs
say anything about DES).

As far as future plans go, I don't have any additional data here. Sorry.
