    - Backup and Restore on WM 5.0 Hi All, I am doing backup and restore on Pocket PC 5.0 using the functions "RegSaveKey" and "RegReplaceKey". I am able to successfully backup and Restore is also successful. But immediately after Restore operation all the file system is corrupted. I am unable to do any operation until i restart the system. Once i restart everything is set right and i am also getting back the restored files. Also after restart the Backup file is not present. I am not deleting the backup file through coding. I want to know why the file system gets corrupted ? And why it is deleting the backup file?     - Strange Problems Installing OpenNETCF on Pocket PC 2002s I'm experiencing something very strange. When I copy the OpenNETCF 1.4 CAB file over to a Pocket PC 2002 device and execute it, it does not extract its contents properly. I'm testing this on two different devices (a Casio and a Toshiba) and it's not working on either. The specific file I'm copying is this one: OpenNETCF.SDF.ppc3.arm.cab I SWEAR that this was not occurring before. I'm hoping that someone has experienced the same problem and can offer me a solution!     - Rotate Screen Hi, I'm trying to write a simple little program to rotate in landscape mode the screen of my mio168 PDA. This option is not available in the display setting of my windows 2003 V4.20.0 (Build 14053). If I try this kind of code it says that rotation is supported on my system but when it comes to it, it fails saying "The graphics mode is not supported.". Does anyone know what to do ?     - Best development tool for WM5? What is the best tool to use for mobile development? I have been using the .NET framework (1.1) and recently moved to the 2.0 framework. The development is great, but my concern is the deployment. The .NET 2.0 framework is fairly large, and then add SQL Server mobile install. All of this just to run a simple DB app? Most devices have the 1.0 framework pre-installed, but 2.0 requires an install on most devices. Would it be better to use C++ with a different database solution? SQLite, Access, flat file, etc?     - Trap HTTP traffic Hi guys, I am using a PDA using WM5. Most of the data I transfer on the internet (wifi or other kind of network) is HTTP (ActiveSync, Surf, ...). Because you have sometimes to pay your bill based on the amount of data trafered, I would like to create a tool to trap all the HTTP traffic, and log something like time/date, URL, and load... something like the log you have on IIS.     - Windows Mobile 5 Today Screen Softkey Hardware Mapping Problem I am developing a VC++ Win32 app for Windows Mobile 5.0 that will remap hardware keys on a proprietary device to various HotKeys. My problem is that I need to map F1 and F2 to HotKeys 1 & 2 (referenced as 40C1 & 40C2 in the registry) and the mobile devic eactually has a full integrated keyboard so it has all of the F keys. Unfortunately it seems that the OS have taken F1 and F2 (keycode 112 and 113) and mapped them as the left and right softkeys, since most devices don't actually have the F keys. (so now hitting F1 and F2 select calendar or contacts when on the today screen or menu items it a program is running that only has to menubar items which the OS then assumes you just want your menu items to be in those softkeys) So, no when I try to call RegisterHotKey() for F1 and F2 it returns 0 (failure), although F3-F12 work just fine. The order of firstname and lastname is different between eastern and western region settings.     - Connection to SQL Server very slow the first time Hi, I am new to PPC development. I have created a tiny app that wireless retrieves the info for a scanned item. It goes out to SQL Server 2000 on a server and runs the sp. The first time it takes about 87 seconds! For the first few seconds the wireless lights flash on my router. After that it just waits and waits and eventually works. Subsequent scans take about 3 or 4 seconds. So, does anybody know why it would do this? I was wondering if it was trying to connect with every 'adapter' listed on my PPC before deciding on one? Does anyone know the solution?     - File Upload on PDA using Master Pages asp.net 2.0 I am creating a asp.net 2.0 website that can be accessed via a PDA. On the page i have a file upload .net control, which works fine on its own. I can check the HasFile property and upload the file to the server. If i then change the page to use a MasterPage, the file upload control doesnt work!! After a suspend / resume, the application fails trying to seek / write an opened file on the SD cards, and displays a dialog An unknown error has occured...     - Help! Confused by different processors Although a seasoned programmer in most respects, I am a bit of a novice when it comes to developing for mobile devices. I have an application which I developed using eMbedded Visual C++ 4.0 and is working OK on a small number of platforms. Someone just asked me to build a version for a "2002 XDA". A bit of investigation reveals that this has (I think) an SA-1110 processor. My eMbedded C++ development environment doesn't admit to the existance of such a beastie. I had a stroll around MSDN hoping to find a suitable SDK to download but rapidly got lost. The only download which even mentioned the SA-1110 was something called the BSP(?) which appears to be something to do with building operating systems(?) and complete overkill. Can anyone advise me exactly what I need to download, and where I can find it, in order to rebuild my humble little application for this target platform?     - Extracting data via activesync linking This is the issue I have:- I have an app with a database sitting on a mobile device. User plugs the device back in the cradle. App sitting on the connected desktop should then fire up, connect to the device database, extract certain records into a text file and dump that file in a particular location on the desktop. It is this bit that I am working on, and I should warn that I haven't done anything like this before. So what I have currently: - ActiveSync can be set up so that it always operates in "Guest" mode, so that we don't get the screen coming up. ActiveSync has some sort of API, to which I should be able to link to, in order to get notice that a device has been connected. If I have an app of some sort running on the PC, then it can recieve notification from the ActiveSync API and then do the actual data read and file stuff via RDO. So the questions: - 1. Am I completely off the mark? Do I have any clue? 2. If this is feasable, anyone have any pointers as to where I could find info on the ActiveSync API and the RDO required to do this. 3. Am I overcomplicating this? Is there an easier way that I have completely overlooked? Sorry if this appears stupid, but I only started working with mobile devices about two weeks ago, and it is slightly different from the good old Client Server stuff that I'm used to. I use the button in childview and the left key in navigation control set to call the specified function. When I press the left key, I can use the WM_KeyDown to call the specified.     - Active sync partnership not being deleted Okay this one is totally baffling (at least to me) Active Sync 4.1, Windows XP Pro SP1 with all current updates. Windows Mobile Version 5.0 OS 5.1.70 (Build 14402.1.1.0) Dell Axim X51. Getting and error message that Sync cannot be completed successfully Reconnect device etc. If problem persists see Microsoft trouble shooter etc. However the real issue appears to be that the device name is incorrect. For device name Active Sync is showing WM_<users_name> when I set up the partnership I am setting the device name to Axim. I have un-installed and re-installed Active Sync and additionally I have removed the install directory and rebooted the system. Checked the Registry keys after un-installing and HKCU\software\Microsoft\WindowsCE\Services\DeviceID\services\synchronization subkey is gone. As well as the HKU\software\ key is gone from the Windows XP reg. I have deleted the WCESmgr log files from the temp directory from the recycler directory. I have also clean booted the WM unit. I am at a loss to understand where Active Sync is getting the device name from. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.     - Software Registration Key question I'm developing an application that will "live" on an SD card. I need to be able to "register" the application so that if the card is removed from the device, it cannot be used in another device unless it is "re-registered". I can't use the device's memory because it may be cold-booted, which would wipe out any kind of registration. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? When I build it for PPC 2003 and run the executable on Dell Axim X51v (Windows mobile 5.0), I get the full screen video display but when I build for Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC and run the executable I am getting the small screen display.     - TreeView.AfterSelect in CF 2.0 has unexpected behavior I have a TreeView.AfterSelect event method that behaves as I would expect in .NET Compact Framework 1.0 in Visual Studio 2003 (C#), that is, upon selecting a new node in the TreeView, the AfterSelect event fires and while stepping thru the code in that event, when I check TreeView.SelectedNode or e.Node, I get the node that I just clicked on. This is how I would expect an AfterSelect event to behave. In VStudio 2005/CF 2.0, running the same exact code on the same device, when I click a new node, the AfterSelect event fires and when I check TreeView.SelectedNode or e.Node, I do *not* get the node that I clicked on -- I get the previously selected node. It is as if the AfterEvent is behaving like a 'BeforeSelect' event. The node I clicked on does not even get highlighted. The user has to click the node a second time to get it to actually select and for the AfterSelect event to have posession of the selected node. Any ideas?     - Installing CAB causes freeze up on Form Refresh Thanks in advance for any help guys. So the point of the following code is to install a CAB file onto a WM5 handheld. It has worked before, but is in no way consistent. It runs wceload.exe, the installer, fine, but upon returning to the point where it would update the forms again, it freezes. I think this has something to do with my threads, either the ones being created by CreateProcess or by WaitForSingleObject. It seems to me that only the thread that owns the forms and controls can change them, and I'm guessing that my current thread must not be the correct one. Both CreateProcess and WaitForSingleObject are imported correctly. The application freezes when it trys to update the form at Me.Refresh(). Anyway the code is below, any help would be greatly appreciated.     - input method for windows mobile 5 pocket pc version hello, I try to develop an input method on the pocket PC (english version), and have successfully constructed the SIP(soft input panel). However, the SIP can only directly send the letters to the application, what I would like to do is fine control of the candidates (ie. a primary candidate in inline composition mode, and the rest of candidats in a pull down list). my question is: 1. is the SIP capable of doing so? if yes how? 2. I guess I have to write the IME portion. But if I replace the default IME(compime.dll) with a new one, will other third party SIP compatible with the new IME?
