Well, I'll begin with an apology in case this is a question that's well
understood or documented - but I seem to be missing something.

What, exactly are the differences between CE.NET 4.1 and Pocket PC 2003?
Specifically, I'm trying to understand why we were able to build a full-
screen version of IE5 (distributed by Microsoft as IESAMPLE) but this
doesn't seem to be an option for PPC 2003.

Can anybody help or point me to where I should be looking for answers?

thanks,
dan

PPC is a customer of CE, so they choose a specific set of features to
include and then add their "special sauce" to that. There's a lot in CE
that's not in PPC, and there's a bit in the PPC that's not in CE.

Thanks, that helps...when you say "they choose a specific set of
features" I assume you're talking about a particular vendor, is that
correct? Does that mean, for instance, that the feature set implemented
by HP/Compaq might be different from an offering from Intermec?

Actually, "they" are a different team within Microsoft. All PPC 2003 devices
have at least the same capabilities.

Sorry to jump on your thread, but I'm also trying to
develop my own browser and I have a question.

Will IESAMPLE work for PPC and if not is there an
equivalent?

Thanks,

Zorak

IESAMPLE will probably run, but all PPCs have Pocket IE.

No, I mean they (the PPC team) choose a specific subset of the features that
CE offers. All manufacturers are required to implement the same feature
set, with strict limits on what, if anything, can be added.

Well this may be starting to get a little off-topic, but I had a version
of IESAMPLE (provided by the PDA manufacturer) that ran on CE.NET 4.1 -
it doesn't run under PPC 2003. We've been unable to simply recompile,
there seem to be components required that aren't/weren't distributed with
the device's SDK. I admit this may be my lack of understanding, but I ran
into a brick wall early on and then started looking both for alternative
browsers and also to understand what the differences between the two
(CE.NET 4.1 and PPC 2003, that is) are.

pocket Internet Explorer has been improved tremendously, but it only has
support for the IE 3.02 DOM and our application expects to have the IE 5
DOM so this isn't a solution unless we rework our server application.
