    - MSMoney 2006 file on network Hi -- Is it possible to have the MSMoney file in a shared directory on a LAN, so that it can be accessed from two computers (each running a copy of MSM2006)? What precautions need to be taken, eg., can MSM2006 on both computers be running simultaneously, is there a file access lock (like with Word), or is there danger of corrupting the file contents? Any insight into the subject would be helpful. --Marcin PS. I know of the "share file" feature, but I don't want to use it, since it seems to require that the file be exported to MSN first. PPS.     - Paying expenses out of multiple accounts Hi, I just started with Microsoft Money 2004. It seems great so far... I entered in our paychecks and bills. I have one main checking account that I want to pay bills out of. I have another checking account for household expenses (groceries ...etc)also daily expenses such as gasoline costs and clothing. I also have a third account that I use for entertainment and dining out. (this keeps me disciplined) :) The bills that I entered are all linked to the correct acct. However, the misc. expenses such as gas are being deducted from my savings acct. I deleted them from the acct. and tried to reenter to the appropiate acct but they reverted back to the savings acct.     - Purchased online upgrade still says "trial version" I purchased the upgrade to Money 2006 online and followed the instructions as well as humanly possible, but the Money still starts as the trial version which will expire an the end of this month. I tried everything I can think of which included following instructions in this knowledge base article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;889930 After doing everything the article said which finally came down to uninstalling then reinstalling, it seemed to work ....at first. Right after the reinstall, it didn't say "trial version" so I thought it was fixed. But then, the next time I started Money, it once again says "trial version".     - Customer suggestion Dear Microsoft, The main reason I don't use Money is because of the advertisements. It has ads for various brokerage services etc and also a lot of ads on the MSN pages. There doesn't seem to be any way to turn off this garbage. I mean, this is my private computer and my private desktop! Deleting the ads and adding average acquisition cost (Canadian cost basis) would bring you equal to Quicken. Then if you add tracking of depreciable items you will be ahead.     - transfering roth IRA accts to different financial institution I currently have several Roth IRAs at ING Direct. I have transfered my funds (in real life) to T Rowe Price. There are no fees or transaction costs. How do I perform this action in Money 2004 Premium?     - Budget Help with Credit Card Payments I am using Money 2006 and I have set up monthly transfers between my checking account and my credit cards for payments to my credit cards. Before with 2005 I would just set the category to Credit Card Payment/Transfer and I was able to add that to my budget. Currently I am re setting up my Money accounts and have the monthly bills set up as transfers directly to my credit cards. I want to add the transfers out of my Checking account as a budgeted expense without adding the transfer into my Credit Card Accounts as monthly income. Is there a way to do this?     - Money Deluxe 2006 Installation Error I just purchased money 05 deluxe and when I go in to install I get a message that says, "Set up was unable to install some of the compnents needed to run Money.     - Backup Restore Password Not Accepted I reformatted my hard disk drive, saving only my backup file for Money 2004 (Version 12.0, Update 1), which I installed with no problem. I use passport to login. However, after doing so, when I tried to restore from my earlier backup file, I was prompted for a password: nothing worked! I didn't realize my backup file was password protected. I tried identified directories other than the default to create the .mny file, but that didn't work either. Next, I disabled the Passport feature, logging in using my previous password, then tried restoring the backup again. It didn't work: just kept prompting me for a password to restore the backup.     - Citibank Download Transactions NOT SHOWING UP Hello, I have seen several others with the same problem. I download my transactions directly from the Citibank website, and they appear to import correctly into Money 2006, but when I go to review the transactions the account registry is totally blank.     - Cannot perform Autobalance in MS Money 2005 Hi, Does anyone know why I cannot do an autobalance for my credit card bill in MSMoney 2005 std edition? Keep getting a pop error for every credit card account that says: " Your information is being updated. Click OK, wait for a few moments, then try again.     - Merging accounts After a recent bank merger, online updates are available for my accounts. When I set it up, it does an online update and sets up new accounts with the same account numbers as the two current accounts. I wanted to merge the accounts, but it says it will delete all the history of my original account. Since I do searches etc to find information from these older transactions, I cannot use the update.     - Portfolio Manager displays cost with the wrong totals I have Money 2006 and I set up my investments in portfolio manager. The cost totals for my investments do not add correctly. I don't have a massive portfolio so we are only talking about 2-3 mutual funds with a broker. Initial purchases and subsequent purchases were fine. Everything totaled and cross footed. But, that all changed when I partially sold them to pay my son's college tuition.     - Single quote not downloading? I'm having a problem with a single mutual fund quote not downloading. All my other quotes are downloading just fine. Just one particular quote is not downloading. I can update it manually, but the next time that I do an online update, it gets reset to fund price gets reset to $0. The symbol in question is CSMVX. That fund has recently been renamed.     - C.Card acct with different interest rates for purchases & transfer I am using Money 2006 Premium. My credit card has one interest rate for new purchase, a lower interest rate on balance transfers and a third (higher) interest rate for cash advances. I like to use the the DRP so how can I set up the account to apply these different interest rates. I also download Money compatible statements from the bank. I thought about trying to setup more than one account to represent each interest rate, but would that work if all 2 (or 3) account have the same account number when I download a statement?     - Money 2004 Toast! Having a problem with Money 2004. AllOfASudden (yep one word) it starts and then disappears. Troubleshooting so far: 1)Restored a backup - the program would restore the backup and I could view it as long as I didn't close the program. After that it would not open again 2)Uninstalled/Reinstalled. I found an MS technote that pointed to all the folders and regkeys to zap for a complete uninstall 3)Repair file. Same results as 1. Additionally, the repair log indicated no problems found although the repair file was 5mb larger than the orginial (8mb --> 13mb) I'm working under the assumption that the data file is bad but I cannot find anything other than the built-in repair and the salv utility that can provide a workable repair solution.     - Money 2006 Delete Accounts I'm using Money 2006 Deluxe Trial version. I had tried to setup online access to a couple of accounts, with no luck. (the financial institutions do not offer, although Money2006 walked me through the grueling process.) So I then just deleted those specific accounts, but when I update my other accounts it recreates these accounts as says the same error about how Money cannot logon. WHY? I don't want it to attempt to access this closed and deleted accounts! I've managed online services, and after I delete these accounts they dissappear from teh online service page, only to reappear after an update of other accounts. Is this just a TRIAL thing?     - Money 2006 Deluxe Cannot review transactions (hidden!) I manually download my Visa card statement to a .qif file and then import it. Worked fine in 2005 but now in 2006 it imports them and says I have 12 to review but they are missing, simply just hidden and I cannot see them. I've tried repairing my money file, deleteing and re downloading the qif, clearing my internet files.     - Money 98 Hi: I purchased a new computer and went from Windows ME to Windows XP Home. Money 98 was on the old computer and was installed on the new one. However, when I ask to open the files I have for transactions, it will not bring them up. It says the files must be .mny files.     - Foreign currencies I'm looking for an alternative to Quicken, and Money would seem to be an obvious possibility, but what I have just read about its handling of foreign currencies would make it useless to me. If I understood it correctly, Money provides a long list of predetermined currencies but makes it impossible to add any more. If this is true it is stupid, almost beyond belief. Nobody needs seventy currencies (or whatever the number is) but even if you only need half-a-dozen there are several reasons why you might need to create new ones: (1) New currencies come into existence from time to time, perhaps because of a regional grouping like the euro zone, or because new countries come into existence, like Slovakia and the Czech Republic. Money has picked up both of these, but how does Microsoft know that there won't be others? (2) You may need to preserve transactions in a currency even if it no longer exists. For instance, I lived in Belgium before the euro was adopted, and I had accounts in Belgian francs which I want to keep - they include security transactions and details of a house purchase, any of which I may need at some time for tax reporting. (3) From time to time, a country may reform its currency, typically because its value has fallen so far that there are too many zeroes in all the numbers. When this happens both the old and new currencies will be in circulation for a time. And even when the conversion is complete, users may still need to keep records in the old currency - as in (2) above. MS could have learned all this from a brief discussion with any accountant or banker with a little international experience.     - Entering an older investment trans. after stock has split Given a company's stock has already split, and that I'm catching up on my statements from prior to the split, do I enter pre-split stock numbers for those older transactions, or post-split numbers? Example: Say the stock split 2-for-1 on Oct-01-2005 I'm catching up now on my Aug 2005 statement Investment transaction of "buy 100 shares" of Aug 15, 2005 @ $10/share Should I enter that now as 200 shares @ $5, or 100 @ $10? I entered them as 100 @ $10, and I saw an "s" appended to the price, but the quantity still shows as 100. If I attempt to manually enter a 2-for-1 split, it says that one split has already been recorded for that day. Money knows about the split probably because I update prices online, but it doesn't seem to show me that the 100 shares are now 200.     - Loss of features in Money 2006 from 2004 It appears that Microsoft has removed from the 2006 version of Money some features I found helpful. In liability/credit card registers, the credit limits used to be displayed on the lower left side of the screen. In investment accounts, the corresponding cash account balance would be display. Now however, the system does not display this data nor can you turn it on. Customer support said they removed this feature from 2006. I think that is a mistake. Are there others out there that use to make use of this feature? Hi all, hope someone can help. I have a copy of MS Money 2003 that I
bought a few years ago. It worked fine back then but after a system
crash and windows re-install I never bothered to relaod money until
now. But now after I install it on my W98SE machine it seems to
install fine but will not run. When I open the program it opens very
briefly then immediately closes. I have tried re-installing and
deleting the sample file with no luck. My old money data file is long
gone so that can't be the problem. Any ideas?

My guess is something is wrong with Win98 on your machine. You could try
reinstalling Windows and then Money to see if that fixes it. With the cost
of WinXP machines these days, you might want to upgrade your PC soon. It is
quite a difference in speed and reliability I think.
