When I close money, either using the X or file close, the program appears to
close but gives an error 'unable to close, then appears to close.. However,
if I try to open again, I get a message that Money is already running, though
Task Manager shows it isn't.

Reboot your computer.

If the problem persists, what version of Money are you using? (e.g.,
US Money 2006 Deluxe). What is the exact error message that you
describe as 'unable to close'?

Hi Cal,
When I reboot I can run Money again - once per bootup. Any entries I have
made have been saved.
The version is the latest (!) one for the UK - 2005.
When I close with 'X' or 'File close' the program disappears from screen to
be replaced by a Microsoft Money box with message 'This operation cannot be
performed'. OK removes this.
If I then try to re-open Money I get a Microsoft Money box with message
'Money is already running' Taskmaster (CTRL/ALT/DEL) shows no programs
running.

Did you try the File->RepairMoneyFile->StandardFileRepair level 2?

Thanks for that, Cal - seems to have fixed the problem. I din't realise that
repair fixed the Money program - thought it dealt with dodgy data files !

I think it was a dodgy data file that triggered odd program action.
