Is it possible to pack and/or otherwise clean up Money's data file? I'm sure
I don't have 12MB of data in that file, despite its size. It's probably a
jumble in there, just waiting for a chance to get corrupted.

12 MB is below average I suspect. I recommend you minimize getting
stock quotes if you want to slow the growth.

File|Archive and removing old securities quotes are the only two methods to
do this; the latter is only available in >=M04, IIRC.

Archiving is NOT recommended, for any number of reasons.

Money storage is known to be relatively space inefficient. Supposedly it's
optimized for performance, though any Money user will surely doubt that.

See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=7.

BTW, my file is 55MB+.

Disk space isn't really a problem. I'm just concerned about buildup of
internal clutter.

Thanks for the info.

Hmm, you must have more money than I do! :-)

I guess frequent backups are the only way to deal with data corruption.

Maybe I'm just more anal about recording transactions and/or have been doing
it longer.

If you are having corruption problems, backups won't eliminate them. But
they are your best insurance against corruption and a whole host of other
issues like dead hard disks.

Hmm, I say, heah, that was a JOKE, son! More money = bigger file... makes
sense, right?

:-)
