Downloaded statements do not appear in account
Hi!
I have Money 2003 installed on my Compaq Presario. This
came pre-loaded. When I download a bank statement on to
my computer and then double click it, money asks which
account to update. On assigning the account the accounts
window shows x number of transactions pending. However,
on opening the account, I cannot see the new
transactions. I looked at the knowledge base site Q327899
and it advised to reinstall Money since it is likely to
be a corrupted file. However, since my Money program came
pre-loaded I dont know how to go about this. Can you
please guide me or show me another way to rectify the
situation?
Thanks in advance

Turbo Tax vs. Tax Cut
I have been a longtime Quicken User and have recently
changed to MS Money 2004 (before it came bundled with TaxCut).
I find Money much easier to work with and like it very much.
In the past I have always used Turbo Tax and I'm thinking
of switching to Tax Cut this time.
Is there much difference in those products? The state tax
program is not needed.
I'll appreciate any comments. Tag: money 2002 doesn't start up Tag: 162587

Money 2002 Startup Problem
I have experienced the recent problem with Money 2002 not starting up. I have reinstalled into a new directory and it now starts.
However, my existing data file appears to be locked. I cannot open it with Money. I also cannot move it, copy it, or rename it. I get an "access denied: make sure the disk is not full and the file is not currently in use" message
Any ideas what's wrong? Unfortunately, I inadvertantly deleted my only backup :( Tag: money 2002 doesn't start up Tag: 162582

How to reinstall Money 2002 w/o losing data?
Several have now suggested that Money 2002 will work again
if we reinstall it to a new directory.
How can we make sure we do not lose our data in the

Also if someone has the patience to post step by step how

IRA Purchase from Checking
Hi. IS there a preferred way to make an IRA purchase

1. Transfer from Checking to IRA Contributions in my

2004 Small Business how?
I have a small business I run out of my home (sole
proprietor). I recently purchased MS Money 2004 Small
Business and am considering whether to integrate our
existing MS Money 2002 Standard family finances file with
my business.
However, I am concerned about keeping the information
separated or separate it on demand when I need to run
business related reports and family finance reports.
Can this be done? I can't find anything so far about this
topic on the MS sites or support.
If reporting can be done (like everything in one Money
file, but I can view financials and run reports on
business and personal separately), then, how can I do it
or set it up?

Money 2004 Premium crashes when clicking on Portfolio
Whenever I try to enter my portfolio, Money 2004 crashes
with a "send info to Microsoft"/Dr. Watson type error.
It was working fine several days ago, the last time I
tried to get in. A standard file repair had no effect.
I did a search and found posts from others who have had
this problem, but it looks like all of them were synching
their data with the web and turning synching off fixed it
for them. I, however, am not and have never synched in
this fashion.
So far I have tried a reinstall of Money 2004, quick and
standard file repairs, and deleting the past week's worth
of transactions from my investment accounts (through the
account register, which I can access, unlike the
portfolio view), all to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas (other than restoring my
backup from *October*, the most recent that doesn't have
the same issue, and then spending 12 hours reentering
months of data) as to how I might solve this? Tag: money 2002 doesn't start up Tag: 162561

Money Invest account "Cash" part

Improvements in 2004?
I am running MS Money 2002 and I'm considering upgrading
to MS Money 2004 or making the painful decision of going
back to Quicken (which I used up to 1997).
Here is my question.
Does 2004 have better reporting and analysis tools than
2002? For example, I love the monthly reports MS Money
delivers each month, but I want those same reports going
back years, not just a month. Does the upgrade to 2004 add
that ability?
Quicken provides a chart that shows a bar chart with
assests in dollars for each past month, while upside bars
show the debt for each month, and then plots a line that
shows net worth. I LOVE THAT CHART. Does MS Money 2004
have that ability?
Is anyone using any advance tools or found a good resource
for getting reports and graphs out of MS Money?
Does anyone know why MS Money produces such limited
reports? Is Microsoft just not serious about MS Money as a
viable product, or is there some patent that prevents them
from providing what Quicken has been providing for years?
Lastly, are there any database improvements in MS Money
2004. I purchased a new ThinkPad A31 with a P4m 2.0GHz
with 512MB, but MS Money is still painfully slow.

2004 - after import, transactions to read don't appear
Microsoft Money 2004
Windows XP Professional (fully service packed)
After importing transactions from my bank, I click "OK",
it goes to the account list with transactions to read in
parenthesis, I click on an account and it "has
encountered a problem and needs to close." When I reopen
Money the transactions are not in any of my accounts, but
are still listed as "to be read". I have changed the view
between "all transactions" and "unaccepted transactions"
and nothing helps. They seem to have been lost in limbo.
If I go and import the same file again nothing happens.
No crash, but no results either. If I import a new file
(say, the next day with new transactions) it crashes
again.

Using Money 2004 and auto categorizing downloaded transactions???
I received Money 2004 on a new laptop that I bought.
All I want to do with it is download all my account transactions from Bank of
America, pull them into Money, and have everything autocategorize based on the
name so I can easily see 'where the money goes' , ie mortgage, bills,
entertainment, etc.
I can't see any easy way to do this.
I can download and import data fine from BOA. The problem is that each
transaction has a date encoded in the payee such as LOWES 0212 or LOWES 0215 so
that EVERY TRANSACTION to the same payee is treated as a different payee.
I found some rudimentary filtering in the payee rules dialog, but it is very
weak in that it cannot filter numeric data, only specific strings. If it had
regular expression exclusions, for example, I could easily create a regexp to
remove any sequence of 4 digits surrounded by space...
So here are the problems:
1) Money doesn't seem to have a facility to autocategorize based on payee name.
I should be able to set a default category for each payee in the payee details
screen (for example, DIRECTTV is assigned Bills:Cable/Satellite ), and apply
that to ALL transactions to the payee.
2) Why the heck can't I select more than one transaction to assign a category?
for example, if I could CTRL-click to select ALL of the transactions to
DIRECTTV, I could assign the Bills:Cable/Satellite category to all of them in
one shot, but NO I can't do this.
3) I can't see all of the transactions to the same payee anyway because of the
date string problem! Double clicking on DIRECTV 0210 just shows that one
payment, and not all DIRECTTV payments.
If I am totally missing the boat here then please let me know. But I could not
figure out a way to solve any of the above problems.
Can anyone recommend a different product that actually has some decent filtering
capability, and works the way it should with online account data? Tag: money 2002 doesn't start up Tag: 162528

Recurring transactions
I switched from Money 2000 to Money 2004 recently. I
have noticed that on the bill and deposit manager looking
at a 30 day window for example that if you have a
recurring transaction it will only display the next
occurence of that transaction. For example I have setup
my pay check as a recurring deposit each week. But
looking at the 30 window only shows one upcoming
transaction on that Friday. The following Friday's
deposit is not even listed until the currently displayed
transaction is recorded. The problem comes when you try
to forcast your balance by highlighting a range of
transactions you end up with the wrong ending balance. I
did not have this problem with Money 2000 as it displayed
all the recurring transactions for whatever period of
time was desired. And by highlighting a range of
transactions you would get an accurate ending balance.

Money 2004 Date Format Displaying Incorrectly
A nitnoid problem, but one that bugs me all the same.
I am running Money 2004 Premium on a Windows 2000
operating system.
I have my computer date regional options for date format
set to:
Short Date = dd-MMM-yy (e.g. 18 FEB 04)
Long Date dddd, dd MMMM, yyyy
(e.g. Wednesday, 18 February 2004)
MY PROBLEM:
Yet, in my Money 2004 version the date format shows as
follows in the date columns of all account registers:
Short Date = 18-2-04 (instead of 18-FEB-04)
Long Date = February 18, 2004 (instead of 18 February 2004)
When I change the regional options for dates to other
formats, it does change it correctly in the date columns
in Money. It seems to only occur when I try and use the
European format of day-month-year with the "month" spelled
out. (i.e. I like to see "FEB" vice the number "2")
I am running the 2002 version of Money on another computer
and the dates display correctly.
Any assistance in pointing to the root of this problem is
greatly appreciated.

Wrong online fund price info: wrong ticker symbol?
Guys: thought I'd pick your brains on this one:
Yesterday I created a new account in my Money 2002. I
called it Cuz 401K. In this account I have two mutual
funds:
Dreyfus Small Cap Stock Index Fund - ticker DISSX
Dreyfus Midcap Index Fund - ticker PESPX
I started entering "add shares" transactions as I have had
this 401k since 3/2003, but had never defined it to Money
(man am I lazy!).
When I was about half way done, I realized I had been
entering the transactions into the wrong accounts (I was
putting the small cap xactions in the midcap fund and vice
versa). I know, I know, I should have paid more attention
to the way Money lists the funds in my account
(alphabetically, not in the order I defined them)!
I was extra lazy so instead of deleting all my
transactions and starting all over, I simply went into the
See Details view and used RENAME function to change the
name of Midcap fund to "Temp". I also cleared the ticker
symbol from PESPX by highlighting and hitting Delete key,
then DONE button.
Next I used See Details on Smallcap and RENAME function to
change name to Midcap fund. I then overtyped the old
ticker symbol (it was DISSX) with PESPX and hit DONE.
Last step was See Details on TEMP: used RENAME to change
name to SmallCap fund, and typed in the correct ticker
symbol of DISSX, and hit DONE.
Everything looked fine at this point (details on all
transactions showed the correct fund name), so I continued
to enter the rest of the year's transactions, this time
into the correct funds.
However, now when I look at Price History, I see the most
amazing SawTooth pattern. Each Buy point on the chart is
accurate price per share, but each online price point in
between the buy points is incorrect. It is the price per
share of the other fund (so when I do Price History on
DISSX - Small Cap, I get online price for PESPX - Midcap,
and vice versa)!!!
Strangly my current online price for each fund is
accurate, it is the price history which is wrong, but this
results in the various Money Investment reports also being
wrong, so I need this corrected.
Obviously I need to fix this and I am feeling too lazy to
delete both funds from my Cuz 401K and start all over.
Is there a way I can export just these two funds from my
Cuz401K account, delete the funds (which hopefully will
delete the incorrect ticker symbol info which is hidden
somewhere in Money) in my Money file and import the funds
back in?
When I look at See Details for each fund, the ticker
symbol info is correct, but reading over this forum I see
comments about "ghost" ticker symbols, which is probably
part of what is happening to me.
Does the whole Investments function work better in Money
2004? With current offers at Staples / Office Max, I can
get Money '04 for free (after rebates) if I also purchase
a TaxCut Deluxe for $10. I really haven't been very
impressed with the Investments part of Money, which is a
shame since it was better than Quicken's back when I
trialed both products in '99-'00.
I ended up using Money '02, but even simple things like
direct rollovers of IRA's seem to not be able to be
intuitively handled by Money.

Money file types
I have been using Money for years, version 2000, then
2002, now 2004.
I noticed i have on my hard drive four files; .mbf - i
know it is the backup file, .m10 - which i understand is
the file for 2004, but i also have a .mn8 & .mny...??? are
they old files that can be deleted? By the properties of
the files, they look like they haven't been opened in
years, leading me to believe they are old version files,
and the more recient .m10 is all i need (also .mbf).
am i correct?

What the #$%^&* is going on with Money 2002 and when will it be fixed?
Hi, we haven't been able to open Money 2002 since Sunday.
From reading posts here it appears everyone is having this
problem due to some upgrade by MSFT.
In one past problem with running Money on this computer,
MSFT "support" (sic) told me they couldn't do anything
because Money came bundled with the computer and so HP (my
OEM) is responsible for all support, while HP told me they
couldn't do anything because they don't know anything
about Money and Microsoft can't/won't tell them!!!!!!
Took over an hour. So this time we are just sitting it
out for a while.
If anyone gets any further info such as:
- How do we know when problem is fixed? Will we just be
able to open Money normally again or do I have to keep
checking somewhere?
- If I have to keep checking somewhere, where do I check?
- Why isn't there anything about this when I search this
site? Are they trying to get us all to upgrade to 2004?
- Are we sure MSFT has said it will fix the problem? I
thought it was supposed to be fixed by today but it isn't?
- Anyone who IS able to get through to a human at MSFT,
we will be eternally grateful if you can report back! Tag: money 2002 doesn't start up Tag: 162467
Repost:Money 2003 stops numbering loan payments
Money 2003. All of a sudden, money has stopped posting a "payment number"
under the "pmt num" column on both my Mortgage and Car Loans. Both are paid
via transfer from my checking account through electronic bill paying. On
some of them Money will let me add the number later manually but on others
it says "You cannot change this transaction into an electronic payment or
transfer because the date is not within an acceptable range and cannot be
changed." All transfers and payments went through properly with no problems
and were recorded properly except for the missing payment number. Any
insights would be most welcome.

money file extraction: virus or worm
hi, i opened MS Money 2002 last night, and instead of
starting the program, a screen opened in MS-DOS, and it
started extracting a bunch of files.
then that screen closed.
now the program will not work.
is there a worm or virus targeting people's MOney files?

Money stops responding while compressing backup file
Until last week, Money 2003 behaved as configured: it
compressed my backup file before writing it to my backup
floppy drive (which is actually a zip disk).
For no known reason, it has started to hang up (that is,
Windows XP Task Manager reports that it is not
responding) right after it displays the progress bar for
compressing the backup file. No progress occurs, and it
never hits the zip drive.
Any suggestions will be welcome. I didn't find anything
relevant when searching the newsgroup's archives. Tag: money 2002 doesn't start up Tag: 162459

Add me to the list. Money was running fine but doesn't
open up any more. I reinstalled, still doesn't work when
I select the shortcut or the application.
