 - MS Money - does any version support hyperlinking files ? Does any version of MS Money support the hyperlinking of files ? Specifically, can I hyperlink a file to a register entry, eg. link a file (for instance, a bill image) to a regoster entry ( for instance, the check paying the bill).  - Changing a transaction to be in Foreign currency I am having problems with my investment accounts. My base currency is canadian. However when I do a transaction in a security that is based in the US, MS Money assumes that the price entered is in C$. Hence the purchase/sale price is not reconciling with my statements adn I show a lower/higher cost in Portfolio Manager FYI The security is shown to be in US in the security details.  - Bank Payment/Credit Card Just bought Microsoft Money and was assigning all my purchases to categories. The one thing I can not figure out is how to get my credit card payment (+) and bank payment (-) to zero out. On my report I classified the money leaving my bank as a Credi Card purchase. I'll ask the annual question: Hi, Still on 2004 (since moved to 2006 anyway!) and I've been waiting for this feature since Money 98 I think: Has the "average" column been added to the standard reports yet? Right now there is only the option to show the "totals" column on the right - but it would be great to see an average column as well - currently the only way I know of getting your average monthly spending in categories is to export to Excel and create a calculated field to do the pedantic division by 12.  - Chk # not auto, entered into both accts? Wondering if this is another bug. My July monthly report came up, looking at it showed a check gap. So I looked under my checking acct. didnt see the number, did a search. When I was in my credit card and payed an xtra payment, I put the check number in on the transfer, like I always did before, and it always showed up under both accts. checking and credit card, automatically.  - Void trans. Money 2006 doesn't recog.goes to same transaction/bug? In my checking acct. I entered a check number and it had to be voided. When I try to to go to a new withdrawal, it starts with the number that was just voided instead of going to the next check, is this another bug? I tried closing the program and restarting but does the same thing. They fix this in 2007 also? Seems the more I work with 2006, seems to be bug infested and they want you to buy 2007 to fix it?  - Microsoft Money passport sign-in problem solved Was receiving an error message that either e-mail address or the password was incorrect each time I tried to open my Money file. So I could not open the file. After a long search on the web I FINALLY managed to solve this issue. I see that a lop of people have the same problem or similar.  - Backup Restore problems Money 2005 I recently backed up my Money 2005 file, so i could reformat. After re-installation, i am unable to restore this file, it brings me all the way through (choose file, input password, choose restore path) and where ever i choose to restore the "My Money" file to, i get a message that the path is invalid, or the file im trying to create "My Money" is read only (how could that even be possible, if the file doesnt even exist yet!" Anyways, id really appritiate any help, it contains all my Account info, Investments, Tax stuff. It would be a really rough blow to have to re do all that.  - Money 2007 password problems I just upgraded from 2004 to 2007. Money initially allowed me to access data file with existing hotmail email account and password. After converting backup file, exited Money, then tried to access again. Now says that email or password is incorrect. Tried accessing Passport services with old password. Said I was logged on. Changed password to a "strong" password. Money 2007 STILL will not allow me access to file. I have verified I have access with Live access, have logged off, verified internet access etc. Money won't allow me access to file either onliine or off line unlike old version of Money.  - Share sale recorded in cash account as payment !!!! In my portfolio I recorded a share sale but it is showing in the cash account as a payment rather than a receipt. I have corrected it several times but when I close money and re-start it later it keeps changing the transaction back to a payment. Has anyone else had this problem or can anyone suggest a solution?  - budget category problems Had MM 2004, upgraged to 2006 deluxe to solve this two fold problem, but it still exists. First, when I make my mortgage payment, it is automatically deducted from my checking account, and MM lumps it all together in the budget as debt. However, the payment is actually a) principal b) interest c) property tax and d) insurance. Because it is all lumped together as debt under a "special" line on the budget, it won't take the categories I've assigned each part of the split payment and put them where they belong in the budget. If I change the category from Loan Payment : Home Mortgage to split, it doesn't automatically put the payment into my home loan like it should. Second, when ever I have money withdrawn automatically from my checking to go into various retirement accounts for my wife and I (4x month), it doesn't allow me to assign a category (i.e. retirement) so it shows up as transfers out of my budget instead of in the retirement category like I want it to. What's the point of putting money into categories in your budget if MM hijacks the category for automated payments? Is this a flaw in the program, or is there a work around? Thanks in advance.  - Password issues -- Money 2005 vs. Windows Live/Passport Money 2005 decided earlier today to stop accepting the memorized password attached to it (I'm the only person using this machine). It appears that I'd accidentally updated/replaced the password when I recently acquired broadband access and MSN, thereby converting to a Windows Live ID from the prior Passport one. So I went through the process of resetting the password via the Web. Well and good, or so I thought. Except -- I created a password that the Web system classed as Strong (thus, not all the characters are alphanumeric), and when I typed *that* into the Money 2005 sign-in form, I got an error message indicating that Money 2005 passwords can't have special characters in them.  - Money 2006 not updating correctly This is kind of a weird problem. Money appears to download transactions from our credit union OK, but the transactions are not appearing in the registry even though the total appears in the summary on the left side of the screen. I am stumped. The file format used by our credit union is *.ofc, which Money doesn't appear to recognize for some reason.  - Money 2007 Performance Technique In addition to the draconian File->Repair->RemoveAllBillsData method, there is a more subtle thing that might improve things for some who have upgraded to Money 2007-- especially for files with a lot of history. Archive! (but there is a caveat) A feature has been added where Money removes deleted Payees when you Archive, rather than just hiding them. Thus there may be some detritus to remove. But we know the downside of Archive: removing old transactions that we may have some need for. The way to avoid that is to specify a date *earlier* than your earliest transaction. Thus no transaction actually gets removed. Perhaps you want to select 1/1/1960. Selecting a date that causes some transactions to be removed is still not a good idea for most people. It would be good to keep an extra copy of your file before doing this. And in this case, I am thinking more about size comparisons. I don't know if anybody will have much size change. The real thing sought would be some performance, but that would be harder to measure. So this is a special case for those who had decided to never archive. Let us know if it helped or did not. I have been using the 2006 version and when I tried to open my 2006 data file it said this version of Money cannot open previous versions of Money data????  - Money 2007 is not allowing manual match on transactions in the register I have a credit card account that is setup to download transactions online. Some of the transactions I have downloaded appear in bold, and are duplicates of existing transactions which are not bold, and are not marked cleared or reconciled or even marked as 'E'. Money failed to match these transactions automatically. When I tried to click 'Change' to match up manually, the *only* transactions that appear as viable matches are coming from the 'Bills' list. None of the transactions already in the account are listed, so I can't actually match them. Even if I manually create a brand new transaction that looks very much like the downloaded transaction (in terms of date and amount), it is not listed as an elligible match.  - Portfolio Manager Current Balance I've used Portfolio Manager (PM) for many years (at least since 1998). Over the years MSN Money and perhaps other things have grown up around PM but I only use PM. Recently I've noticed that in one of my accounts the Current Balance has gone funny on me. When I set the Current Balance in Account Settings and then click Done and look at the portfolio I see the balance on that account as being $10.95 less than I set it to be. If I go back to Account Setting the value will match the amount I saw in the portfolio view even though I just set it to be $10.95 higher than it shows.  - Corrupted Money file? About two months ago my downloads quit working so that I can no longer download transactions from my bank (Mobile Oil Federal Credit Union). It had worked fine before but just quit working one day. I have been working with tech support but I am just about ready to give up on them. The last email tech support sent to me stated that they felt my passport credentials had become corrupted, they stated this because I was able to create a new passport and create a new money file and that new money file would update with my bank just fine. But I believe what they failed to understand is that I was also able to create another new money file and use my original passport log in and update my accounts from my bank as well. In my opinion there appears to be a problem my money data file, since my passport log in works fine with a new money data file. Does anyone have any opinions on how best to fix this problem? Should I create a new money file, import all the data from the old money file and see if the downloads work? Should I delete the accounts that are not updating in the original money file and then try re-creating those accounts? Any other ideas? I would really hate to lose my historical data but I need to get this thing working again. I am using Money2006 Deluxe and my money file contains data back to roughly 2000 and is almost 23mb in size.  - Reconciled total I have been using Ace Money for some time and it has a feature that is quite useful. I actually balance my bank account every two or three days by going online and comparing the transactions that have cleared against the ones in my register. Ace Money would actually show what it called the "reconciled total" at the bottom of the register. This was would match the total from the register from my online bank register and would let me see in a glance if I had made a mistake. I found this very handy.  - Unable to set up US Version of Money 2001 in UK I have moved to the UK and brought my set up files along with my personal files to set up on my new computer in order to reconcile all my credit cards and banks before I close the accounts (I'm Canadian but was apparently using a US version). Unfortunately, when I opened the file nothing looks normal. I have been unable to set it up on my UK computer. I have ordered the latest UK version which has not yet arrived but I wish to keep my old life separate from my new life and certainly don't want to be converting Canadian money into pounds.  - Prompts come in two's? Ok another question. I recently installed Money 2006 Premium on my new computer. When I start the program I get two of the same prompt windows (an offer to upgrade to 2007). I close one and the same thing pops up again. The same thing happens when I close the program but with the option to back up prompt instead. I close one and another pops up.  - Money 2006: Why do I have to remove an entry, in order to make it balance? I posted a question related to this a while back. I entered an electronic payment via MSN Bill Pay on 7/13/2006. At the time that I did it, something went wrong. I don't know what, I don't know how and I don't know why; but something went wrong. I decided to wait until my bank sent me the monthly statement, to try and figure it out. I got my bank's monthly statement. I discovered that MS Money 2006 hadn't entered the amount for the MSN Bill Pay, so I entered it in for the amount of the bill, on 7/13/2006. Then I went through the rest of the balancing of my checking account in MS Money 2006. I didn't balance, however. I was off, exactly by the amount of the bill I tried to pay via MSN Bill Pay. I see on my bank's statement the amount paid by MSN Bill Pay on 7/13/2006. I also got onto the MSN Bill Pay website and saw the same thing there, for the amount. But it was NOT in my ledger for my checking account in MS Money 2006, which is why I entered it by hand. But I'm off by exactly that amount. So, if I remove the payment I entered by hand for the amount that I DID pay via MSN Bill Pay, then my account balances in MS Money 2006. Why is it that I have to remove a charge that did occur, that is supposed by my bank's monthly statement and MSN Bill Pay, in order to make MS Money 2006 balance? What's wrong with it?  - Money 2004 - Problem downloading from Fidelity I have multiple accounts at Fidelity (Brokerage, 401(k), IRAs, UTMA) in my and my spouse's name. My problem is that Money 2004 inexplicably stops downloading transactions from the Fidelity accounts. It will still update online quotes, and credit card transactions from Discover. The only way I can download Fidelity transactions is to go to the Online Service Manager and discontinue using the service, and then go back to setup service. This becomes a pain when you have to do it every two weeks and then you have to match each account in Money with the corresponding Fidelity account number. I use Zonealarm firewall and AVG antivirus on my Win XP PC. I have disabled these in the past to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Rick Tag: msn money Tag: 211692

No. Some securities are traded in more than one country. You may be
able to approximate the number you want by using the symbol for the
same security in a different country.
