Money 2004 Entering Transactions
When I enter a transaction into my checking account, Money recognizes the
Payee from a drop-down list. However, when I hit Enter on that Payee, it
does not show the correct Category. So, every time I choose this Payee, I
have to manually tab to the Category and fix it.
How can I correct this Category for the Payee so that I do not have to
correct it each entry? Or is Money 2004 not able to change a category for a

Follow these instructions and you should be able to
install Money for the
PPC (2003 version):
1. With the PPC in the cradle and ActiveSync running,
start the installation
of Pocket Money for Money 2003 on the desktop.
2. Go through the normal install routine, following the
prompts on the
desktop machine.
3. When the PPC pops up an error message, don't clear it.
Instead, open File
Explorer on the PPC. (I don't know if the error message
needs to remain
open,
but without having experimented, I suggest leaving it on
screen for now.)
4. Browse to "My Device /Windows /AppMgr /Install" and
tap-and-hold on the
file that is in that folder. (This is the one caveat...
your folder may end
up
being different, but something tells me that this is the
folder you should
look in). The file should be obviously related to Pocket
Money.
5. When the menu appears, choose copy.
6. Still using File Explorer on the PPC, browse to "My
Device /Temp" and
paste the file in this new folder.
7. Once the file appears in this new folder, single tap
the file. The
installation will begin on its own.
8. Close the error message from the original installation.
9. After you have successfully installed Money, with the
PPC in the cradle,
explore the PPC (use Explore from within ActiveSync).
10. Browse to "My Device /Windows" and look for "MoneyCE".
11. Right click on this file and choose "Create a
shortcut".
12. Move this shortcut to "My Device /Windows /Start
Menu /Programs" to
finish the install.
13. Rename this new shortcut as "Microsoft Money".
14. Remove the PPC from the cradle. Check the settings
for the Money Conduit
in ActiveSync, place the PPC back into the cradle, and
away you go.
At this point, it should be working like a charm. Money
shows up in the
uninstall listing on the PPC, but I actually don't know
if it will work or

Direction of Microsoft Money
I'v been a loyal fan of Microsoft Money since Money 97
(5.0). Over the years Microsoft has made major
improvements of the software. But it seems the Money
2001 was the last version that was a must have upgrade.
Money 2002 was a slight improvment, Money 2003 was a
waste of cash, and I won't even consider Money 2004 based
on what I've been hearing.
My question is, what is the direction of the software?
The major features users have been screaming for aren't
here. Bugs that existed in Money 2001 still exsist and
Microsoft seems content on work arounds rather than fixes
(Reset Debt Plan button is a good example).
Over the past two years I've realized that Microsoft
Money is the main reason I still run Windows as opposed
to Linux. If a good financial package, with tight
integration with banks (Direct 2-way Banking), was
available for Linux I would switch to it. I'm guessing I
will see Quicken for Linux long before Money for Linux.
Is it worth switching now?
It seem like the only reasons to release new updates of
Money every year is 1) to have the same year on the box
as Quicken and 2) to bundle with the latest tax
software. Why not release a product every 18 months that
has real value?

Money 2004 and PocketPC
I have been using Money2003 and Money for the Pocket PC.
It has been working great. I was lead to believe it would
also work fine with Money2004. I just installed Money2004
and tried to ActiveSync with my iPAQ, and it failed on the
Sync of the Money File. Am I missing something? Is there
a different version of Money for Pocket PC I should be
using? I am running PocketPC2003 on an iPAQ 2215. I

How can I enter purchases made by cash into my accounts?
For example my husband will buy groceries or other small
items and pay with cash and I can't add them even though

Money 2000 Online Download Problem
I am having problems downloading account balances online.
I never had a problem prior to July 2003, but now after
Money 2000 downloads the balances, it wants me to choose
an account to match with the downloaded account number.
When I point it to the right account name, it gives me a
message indicating "the bank associated with this account
has already been enabled for Online Services through

Backup files can't be read
I had a question that I can't seem to resolve on the money
support page. We have Money 97 (5.0) and have never been
able to open any backup files we have made. Our computer
crashed once and we lost everything. The files are
recognized as money files, because when we click on them,
the Microsoft Money program opens, but then it
says, "There has been an error reading or writing the
file . . .[file name]." It then instructs us that we need
another file in order to fully open the program. What is
the problem? I don't want to lose everything again, and
if we get a new computer in the near future, I don't know
how we'll transfer the information. Even with files that
aren't specifically marked as "backup" copies, this same

Flexible Spending Account
Does anyone have a good way to setup a Flexible Spending
Account (FSA or IRS 125 plan). For example I have $20
deducted from my paycheck each week and it goes to my FSA.
As I incur medical costs I can get the money from my FSA.
This is all pre-tax money. I setup an FSA as an account
and it fills with $20 each paycheck. However I pay my
medical expenses with checks and credit cards. How should
this be done in Money to track my medical expenses
properly? What should I have Money do with the FSA money?

Can't Print Checks Money 2004
I installed Money 2004 and have printed checks, but today I entered
three checks with print in check number and when I go to print, it
says 'you have no accounts with checks to be printed'.
I did see an old post about resetting the check number but don't know
if that applies.

Cannot open Microsoft Monet 2002. I receive the following

Have restarted computer several times and has not

Debt Reduction Planner Headache
OK, here's my story:
I've been using Money for about 8 months. Money 2002 came
bundled on my laptop. I started using the debt reduction
planner about 7 months ago. I set it all up, put my 10 or
so accounts (all credit cards) into it, and established
that I could pay $400 per month. The minimum payments
totaled to about $360, so this was fine. The software told
me to make the minimum payments on all but the card with
the highest APR, which was to get its minimum payment plus
whatever was left out of the $400. This made perfect
sense, and I started making and recording payments.
The next month, the planner told me to pay this card (with
the highest APR) a little more. The problem was, with all
the payments, the total was a little over $400, and that's
really all I can afford to pay each month. I realized it
was in the middle of the month, and figured the software
was a little confused by how much of that $400 was still
left to pay credit cards.
The next month it happened again, and this time I made
sure it was at the beginning of all the monthly payments.
It had me paying about $600 total. I did my own figuring
and just paid what I thought appropriate, totaling $400.
As you might have guessed, it kept getting worse. Soon, it
was telling me to pay $800 just to that one card, in
addition to making the other cards' payments. I upgraded
to Money 2004 Deluxe, thinking Microsoft may have solved
this problem. I was wrong. As of this past month, the
software wants me to pay $1100 to the one card, and I only
owe $950 total.
I've checked for help on this, have reset the planner
twice and have made sure all of the accounts are set up
properly (not charge cards, open, etc.). It's still the
same. Only the current month is messed up like this; the
following months' payments all total to $400 each. It
tells me I'll be out of debt by next year, which would be
nice, but I would like to have at least a good estimate of
when I'll REALLY be out of debt.
If anyone can help me figure this out, I'll... well, I'll
thank you. That's really all I'm willing to do for a

does. You most likely have just seen this story
recently featured on a major nightly news
program (USA) 20/20 & Oprah. His mother was
cleaning and putting laundry away when she
came across a large brown paper bag that was
suspiciously buried beneath some clothes and a
skateboard in the back of the 15-year-old son's
closet. Nothing could have prepared her for the
shock she got when she opened the bag and found
it was full of cash. Five-dollar bills,
twenties, fifties and hundreds, all neatly
rubber-banded and labeled piles.
"My first thought was that he had robbed a
bank," says the 41-year-old woman. "There was
over $71,000 in that bag - that's more than my
husband earns in a year."
The woman immediately called her husband at the
car dealership where he worked to tell him what
she had discovered. He came home right away and
they drove together to the boy's school and
picked him up. Little did they suspect that
where the money came from was more shocking than
actually finding it in the closet.
As it turns out, the boy had been sending out,
via e-mail, a type of "report" to e-mail
addresses that he obtained off the Internet.
Every day after school for the past 2 months, he
had been doing this right on his computer in his
bedroom.
"I just got the e-mail one day and I figured
what the heck, I put my name on it like the
instructions said and I started sending it out,"
says the clever 15-year-old.
The e-mail letter listed 5 addresses and
contained instructions to send one $5 bill to
each person on the list, then delete the address
at the top and move the other addresses down,
and finally to add your name to the top of the
list.
The letter goes on to state that you would
receive several thousand dollars in five-dollar
bills within 2 weeks if you sent out the letter
with your name at the top of the 5-addressee
list. "I get junk e-mail all the time- and
really did not think it was going to work." the
boy continues.
Within the first few days of sending out the
e-mail- the post office box that his parents
had gotten him for his video-game magazine
subscriptions began to fill up with not
magazines, but envelopes containing $5 bills.
"About a week later I rode my bike down to the
post office and my box had one magazine and
about 300 envelopes stuffed in it. There was
also a yellow slip that said I had to go up to
the post office counter. So thought I was in
trouble or something (laughs)." He goes on- "I
went up to the counter and they had a whole box
of more mail for me. I had to ride back home and
empty out my backpack because I could not carry
it all.
" Over the next few weeks, the boy continued
sending out the e-mail. "The money just kept
coming in and I just kept sorting it and
stashing it in the closet, I barely had
time for my homework." He had also been riding
his bike to several of the banks in his area
and exchanging the $5 bills for twenties,
fifties, and hundreds.
"I didn't want the banks to get suspicious, so
I kept riding to different banks with like five
thousand at a time in my backpack. I would
usually tell the lady at the bank counter that
my dad had sent me in to exchange the money and
he was outside waiting for me. One time the lady
gave me a really strange look and told me that
she would not be able to do it for me and my dad
would have to come in and do it, but I just rode
to the next bank down the street (laughs)."
Surprisingly, the boy did not have any reason to
be afraid. The reporting news team examined and
investigated the so-called "chain letter" the
boy was sending out and found that it was not a
chain letter at all. In fact, it was completely
legal according to US Postal and Lottery Laws,
Title 18, Sections 1302 and 1341, or Title 18,
Section 3005 in the US code, also in the code
of federal regulations. Volume 16, Sections 255
and 436, which state a product or service must
be exchanged for money received.

401k Manager does not show valid account

Password failure on Restore Backup
I am restoring from a back-up file and cannot get past
the password. I am certain that I am using the right
password and even checked the .NET passport password.

Transfer of data
Microsoft Money 2003 on a Windows 98 machine. Made back
up. Can't seem to get the data over to a newer Windows
XP machine. Installed original software from disk just
fine. Tried to import the data into it from the backup
disk. Tried to restore from the backup disk. Info fine
on the floppy, copied fine to the hard drive but it does
not seem to want to take it. Is there a better way to
transfer data from old progam on older machine to same

Open existing file
I recently got a new computer and want to move my Money
files to that computer. This is what I have done so far:
- installed current version of Money 2003 on new PC
- copied current Money file from old PC to CD
- copied current Money file from CD to new PC
- am able to perform File, Open and it appears to want to
open existing file
However, my data does not appear anywhere - accounts,
payees, reports, etc. Its like it hasn't opened it at all.
How can I get it to open an existing file that the new PC

Can't delete deposit from budget
I deleted a paycheck from my bill & deposits. The
deposit still shows up when I run budget reports for the
months originally covered by the deleted deposit (no
future months). When I look at the calander tab within
Bills & deposits it still shows up but with a line
through it. I just want to remove it entirely from my

I am having trouble downloading information from my bank
account into Microsoft Money 2002. Whenever I go the
download process that I have always done, none of the new
downloaded information shows up in the register but the

Investment transactions in a category report
I am new to Microsoft Money and am trying to generate a
report that I previously generated in Quicken.
Specifically I would like to generate a category report
that produces the detail of income and expenses. The
reports that I am generating in Money only show expense
categories. The investment income such as dividends,
interest and capital gains are all combined under the
heading of the brokerage account and are not subtotalled
by category.

I have been trying to down load stock quotes to my 2003
Microsoft Money-Deluxe. Previously I had phone modem and
it was connected through AOL and I had no problems, now I
have VOW cable internet. I do not know how to set up

transfering to laon
I have just set up a loan for a car. When trying to
transfer money to make a payment, the loan does not show
up on the list of accounts in the category list - like
all my other non-loan accounts. However, the associated
asset does. If I select the asset, Money decides the
value of the asset goes up by the amount of the payment.
This seems screwy. The value of the car has not changed
in reality, only my equity in the car. In addition,
nothing is reflected in the loan account itself. How do
I record these payments?

Downloaded transactions balance not equal to registers transaction balance
Using MS Money 2003 and online services to download transactions from my
credit card account.
I just downloaded the latest transactions from my account today and though 1
particular transaction has posted to the online account, Money didn't
download it and put it in the register for my credit card account. It DID,
however, change the balance to reflect the correct amount under the
"Downloaded" info section in the upper left of the credit card register
screen.

04 Deluxe: troublesome transaction keeping account out of balance...
This is the text of my querry to ms money support, posting here too to see
if anyone can help. Many thx!
I have a credit card account that is several years old that I have been
balancing monthly. About 2 years ago there was a transaction from my
checking account to the credit card account for payment (from checking acct
set up as a transfer to the cc account) that for some reason was voided and
entered again. The amount of these transaction appears correctly in the
account balance section (the voided transaction has no impact however the
re-enetered transaction has the correct credit amount). The cc account was
balanced after this transaction, however the voided transaction appears as
reconciled "R" while the re-enetered transaction does not appear with the
reconciled "R" flag. Subsequent balancing of the cc account all appear
correct in that after downloading the statement from the cc issuer (done on
a monthly basis as a downloaded statement). What is strange is that the cc
account when viewed from the money home page or from the account list shows
a credit balance of the amount of that 2-year old payment that is not
reconciled. When I look at the account from the account view, this
descrepancy is not there. My attempts to get this account to balance have
been unsuccessful. I have tried setting the old transaction to "R" during
the monthly balance process however then money wants to enter reconciliation
transaction to offset the diference it starting balance, if it do this then
the account appears correctly when viewed from the money home page or
account listings, but when viewed from the account itself, the
reconciliation transaction is making the "amount i owe" appear the amount of
the 2-year old payment transaction plus current charges. So my question is,
how do i force this account to reconcile and keep the view of the accoutn on
money home and from within the account in synch? please note that i have
been trying various approaches to fix the account on a backup version of the

Very Slow DownloadTimes
When I download a particular transaction from my online
statments, it takes almost 40 seconds. With 15
transactions to download, that's 10 minutes. It used to
take only about 2 or 3 seconds per transaction. Any
thoughts out there would be greatly appreciated. The
culprit may be that I have transactions from the
beginning of 1997 (6.5 years). Is that the case? If so,
do I have to delete a bunch of already downloaded and

Printing a Budget
I've done a group search and this question seems to have been asked 3
times without an answer. I have no idea why I think asking a 4th time
will turn up a good answer, but here goes..
How do I print my budget without printing a budget report? I'm using
Money 2002. I don't really want to see how I did on my spending
relative to my budget, I just want a hard copy of how much I've
allocated, monthly and yearly, to my spending categories.

is "either registry key is missing or a registrey value is
invalid." Can someone help?

Disappearing Transactions
I have Microsoft Money 2002
I've been downloading my statements to money using Money
download option.
Unfortunately every time I make a download it screws up
the existing transactions in Microsoft Money.
That is, I can have my Money account perfectly balanced
with my Suncorp accounts, then when I download my latest
transactions from Suncorp my money transactions get
messed up. The new transactions are brought over
perfectly, but when they come over some of my previous
transactions in Money disappear. This means I have to go
through every transaction in Money to see which
transactions have been mysteriously disappeared, then re
enter it manually.

I emailed the above to my bank Suncorp Metway bank here
in Australia and got the following response:
Thank you for your secure message sent 08/09/03.
Even though we offer the option to download we do not
offer support for Downloading your transaction history,
as this is not our area of expertise.
Below are the steps you would follow to download the
transactions to Money. Verify the extension you are using
for MONEY is .ofc
To download your transaction history results, please
follow these steps.
1. Logon to Online Access using your Customer ID and
Password.
2. Perform a transaction history search from Everyday
Banking or Loans. This will give you the transaction
results
page.
3. Select the package you would like to download the
transactions into. Then select if you would like to
download
this page or all transactions. For results that have
less than 25 transactions selecting either option will
download all transactions presented.
4. A pop up box will be displayed once the download link
is selected. The pop up box will advise you what
extension you will need to save the file as. For MONEY
the extension is .ofc, QUICKEN is .qif and ASCII is .txt
as
indicated above.
5. The 'File Download' box will be displayed to ask you
where you would like to save this file. Select 'Save
this
file to disk'. Click Ok.
6. Save the file to a location that you will remember.
Don't forget to save the file with the necessary
extension.
For MONEY the extension is .ofc, QUICKEN is .qif and
ASCII is .txt. Type in the File Name of the document and
the
correct extension and then click save.
7. Open the spreadsheet package that you wish to download
the transactions into.
8. Select the option to import files.
9. Go to the location in your directory where you saved
the file. Double click on the file to open it.
10. The transactions will download your transaction
history search results into your accounting package.
The other suggestion we could provide is to contact the
Money support desk and ask them if they could provide you
with some assistance.

Doing the above doesn't help
Is there a fix to this? It's very frustrating. I want to
keep my Money up to date but because of this problem I
only download once a week or less. I really don't want to
have to enter everything manually
