Probably and old question here but I haven't found it scrolling back through
time.

After X number of years a mutual fund matures and is automaticly converted
from Class B shares to Class A shares at the brokerage. Class A and Class B
shares exist in the portfolio both before and after this activity.

How does one handle it in Money 2005? A buy/sell messes up the overall ROI.

It would be nice to do a spin-off, but Money doesn't offer that option for
mutual funds. So the trick is to do a split/rename set of transactions. We
can help you with that if you provide some details.

Number of shares for both the old and new funds. Also, do you still have
shares of the old fund or were they all converted?

Okay, I see where you're going - determine the split ratio and then move
them. It's the "rename" and move bit I don't understand. I eventually have
to move the converted shares into the appropriate fund. How's that
accomplished?

existing Class A shares = 43676.8
existing Class B shares = 300.0

Class B to Class A shares = 244.9 to 226.0

remaining Class B shares = 55.1

Did I mention "move"? Didn't mean to -- if all of your shares were
converted, do the appropriate split (to get the correct number of shares)
and then rename the fund. There's no move involved.

So... reading between the lines, to gather the shares under the same symbol
is has to be a Sell/Buy, right? Sheesh. Hasn't anybody at M$ heard of
mergers and acquisitions, converted shares, or mutual funds maturing?

So how do you handle it your way if only /*some*/ of the shares matured?

No need to read between the lines -- they aren't the same symbol -- that's
the problem, right? Money deals with mergers, etc. but only with stocks, not
mutual funds. I agree it should. ........

I see no transaction options in $05 that addresses mergers of stock. There
are fewer options for stock than for mutual funds.

Back to the open question: How do you handle the class change your way if
only /*some*/ of the shares matured?

Which version of Money do you have? I seem to think that Standard didn't
offer these transactions. Easiest way to address the open question is with a
set of Remove and Add Shares transactions. Be sure to enter the basis info,
especially if this isn't a tax-deferred account.
