    - Money 2002 Error 1406 during installation When trying to install Money 2002 Deluxe & Business I get "error 1406 - Could not write value Default Visible to key\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Extensions\{E023F504-0C5A-4750-A1E7-A9046DEA8A21}. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact support personnel." I have to abort the installation as the retry key won't allow me to continue.     - Downloaded "Statement Quantity" does not match Money 2007 I have been using Money's Account Download service with my financial institution (AG Edwards) for over a year with absolutely no problems. Last week I downloaded my last batch of transactions and Money could not reconcile what was in the software vs. what was being reported by AGE. It suggested I add 19 shares of a stock I do not own so that Money and AGE could synch up. Not only have never owned this symbol, but my online AGE account doesn't show that I own it either. Yet the Position Matching screen in Money shows a position for this stock in the "Statement Quantity", when in fact I do not own this. I have 1 options - have money update my positions (which would incorrectly reflect stocks I don't own) or choose "No, I will update these positions myself" (which if I do nothing, they just show up the next time I do my online update).     - I want to Syncronize Money With Another computer Not a Palm? How can I syncronize Microsoft Money with another computer (or over a network) that is not a palm computer (ie.     - Money2002 I have been using Money2002 quite uneventfully for several years. When I tried to sign-in today it wold not accept my password. It keeps prompting for my sign-in name and password neither of which has been changed since the beginning. I have tried clicking the "Forgot you password" option but that does nothing. The sign-in screen is the "Microsoft Passport Sign-in" screen. I did try recently to enroll to try-out the new Microsoft Beta Office but found the process with Password too confusing and gave up in the process. Could I have in some way unintentionally fouled my Money password at that time? ( I know the password that I used for that exercise and have tried it also with Money but that did not work either.)     - National City auto-update I used to be able to have Microsfot Money automatically download transactions from my accounts. Now whenever it goes to check it says it failed. I tried setting it up again but it prompts me "National City Requires a Password Change", but no matter what I enter in these boxes it says the password/pin is incorrect.     - Investment Transactions Activity Under Investment Accounts>Investment Transactions>Activity, there is a drop menu with a variety of items. Where are these defined? If you were just using Investment Transctions screen to update the account balances from time to time, would "Other Expense" be a good 'Activity' to select? Is this like a Category?     - Transaction Type Does Money 2005 permit the adding of a transaction type such as INST XFER, instrument transfer, so that I don't have to type it in every time.     - M2006 under Vista RC2 - problem downloading software update I bought M2006 online/download a while ago. Under Vista RC2, when I install the webinstall package and log in with my passport credentials it tells me that it needs to download more software (basically it upgrades from the Trial version to the full version). When I click OK it tells me: "Your Money software requires an update. Before you can install the update, you need to close Money, log on to Windows as a member of the Administrators group and then restart Money" The account I am using is a member of the Administrator group - and it's the only one on this machine.     - Display after reinstallation - Money 2000 Good evening, SAfter re installation on Win 2000 which has gone ok, the portfolio page only displays on half of the page for some reason. There are no handles or grips to pull down or resize. The other pages are all ok from what I can see. Any ideas guys/ gals on how to correct this?     - M2002 Online Services expired? **I should have started a new thread with this question, sorry.** My existing direct connect settings still work with my online financial institutions. However, I am unable to setup online services for a FI from the list because of the "404 Not Found" error mentioned below. Did I miss a Money 2002 update somewhere? Is there not a way to setup new online connections in Money 2002? Does it have something to do with the version of OFX/OFC that Money 2002 is using?     - IE updates caused problems with download Anyone else see this ? When I logged on yesterday I got a windows notification message that " Updates are available" and I selected 5 of them and did the update. ( I marked the monthly virus one as don't bother me again -as usual.) A bit later I went to my bank to download my checking/charge card info for Money and got a popup error message ( not a simple message - a big long thing) and I couldn't download the info - I tried OFX, QFX, and CSV - same error. I removed the updates and rebooted and it then worked OK. ( At my bank I have to log onto their website - select the file - display it , then choose "download " and save the file - it's not integrated into Money).     - Money Loses Reconciliation Data on Restore??? This is the second time this has happened to me. :( I had to restore ms money 2005 from a backup after moving the program to another computer or reinstalling the program after wiping a computer. I very carefully backed up the data first. It's all there, all except the reconciliation data! It looks like I've never reconciled my bank at all! What am I doing wrong? It's bad enough I can't seem to figure out how to print a reconciliation report showing uncleared transactions, etc., after performing a reconciliation. Thanks for any suggestions.     - Going back to Quicken Well I've exhausted my efforts with MS Money. I gave it 4 months and can't find but a single feature that I like (The home page).. Everything else I dislike and find harder to use than Quicken. 1) MSM is repeatedly downloading a transaction from my bank that has already beeen downloaded, matched, posted, and cleared.. It started this last month and I tolerated it.. Made another payment to the same payee thinking it might clear up and it did so for a couple days then it's back again.. downloading the same transaction every time I update. Never had this problem with Quicken before. 2) I've got online payment transaction in my register that's marked with a red question mark. The payment was made from MSM and has been processed, posted, matched, and cleared in my register and online.. Yet it still has a red ? mark... I've made payments to this payee before, using the same method and they were ok. My bank shows the payment being made and processed.. There is no question about it anywhere except MSM.. Never had this problem with Quicken either.. 3) After looking through my investment accounts while catching up in Quicken, I notice MSM has created "positions" for interest income for one of my accounts. It's created 3 separate positions in my portfolio for the 3 months of interest income transactions I've received (one per month). I don't want to even begin to try to figure this one out.. Why weren't they posted as interest income transactions and reflected in the cash transactions register? This brings up another annoyance. I can't just add the cash account portion to my account list so I can conveniently see my cash balances.. To see cash balances and transactions in investment accounts I've got to open the investment account and THEN click on the cash transactions link.. That's about 3 clicks more than necessary.. .And then I lose the overall account list view I like to see.. 4) I don't like the overall layout.. at all! Quicken has this neat "Account Bar" that remains on the screen showing at all times selected accounts and their balances.. In Money I have to go to the Account List to see this information and then I lose the register view I am looking at. 5) I can't stand not having a title bar and status bar as well as a distinct border surrounding the app.. It's odd and I've not been able to get used to it. 6) I don't like the behavior of the product and the page-oriented design. It's sluggish and needs a screen refresh on occasion. Quicken never has this problem.. 7) In Quicken I can right click a transaction and get an instant report for a) the payee, b) the amount, or c) the category.. Plus the report opens in a separate window - leaving my register viewable. In MSM it's several clicks to get the same information and I've lost my register view until I click click click back to get to it..thereby losing the abiltiy to view the report and the register at the same time.. It's awkward at best.. 8) MSM has a bug in it that you can't tile it with other running programs.. Right-click the taskbar and choose tile (either way) and MSM isn't tiled.. Microsoft apparently tossed out their own Windows design conventions when they built this product.. 9) Reporting is dismal in MSM.. I find a bunch of canned reports that are less than useful .. Who actually uses the monthly reports? I find them useless. Furthermore most reports default to some type of chart. I am not in the business of presenting my personal financial information therefore charts are of little value to me. I prefer numbers. Microsoft continues it's practice of being "chart-happy".. preferring to focus on pretty charts with lots of colors as opposed to actually reporting useful data. 10) The address window showing the page you're currently viewing at the top is a complete waste of screen space and provides no additional functionality at all. You can't use it to manuver the various pages so why have it? 11) The little "update" button should default to initiating UPDATES and not to the update results page.. Why would I want to view results *before* I initiate the update ? 12) The program deletes my online password and disables updating for accounts that encounter an online update error.. This should never happen regardless of the specific error encountered. Fortunately I've not got alot of money invested in MSM.. I have an opportunity to purchase Microsoft software at a nice discount.. so I'm not out a lot of money.. The unfortunate part is the amount of time I've invested in converting to and learning this software just to find it coming up way short of Quicken in so many ways. Despite Intuit's deceptive and questionable practices, and the excessive cost of their product. IMHO Quicken *IS* a better product that's much easier to use and designed around what people need in a personal financial software product. I may try MSM again someday but this version is a severe regression in usability from the last time I used MSM.. I'm dissappointed in MSFT with this product. For all those who have helped me resolve issues in MSM and taught me how to find features and settings that I couldn't locate, I deeply appreciate the help. This software just isn't for me though.. Maybe someone from MSFT is checking these forums and will take these issues to the product group where they'll be addressed in future versions. I can say that if they maintain the IE based (page-oriented) application design that uses a single window utilizing back and forward buttons, I'm not likely to ever to try to switch to it again. It's cheap programming and the end result shows it.. Finally.. this is just my opinion. I'm not trying to start a flame war here in this forum about which product is better..     - Why does my Money Market Fund show a loss? I have investment in a Money Mkt Fund and all transtactions in this fund (BUY, SELL and Re-Invest Dividends) are executed at $1.00. Though, the Performance Reports and Portfolio page shows a Loss. I would think that since all the buys and sells are at $1.00 they should not result in any gain/loss and MS Money should simply add the Re-Invested Dividend to give the gain. However, my balance in the fund matches with the broker so, there should not be error in the entries. The issue is only in the Gain/Loss and Period Return amounts. Any thoughts?     - rounding problems with stocks in Money 2007 I have been having an issue with rounding for several years now and I am very frustrated. I am currently using Money 2007 Deluxe with SP1. With every new Money release, I hope that my issue will be resolved, but so far, no luck. Let's say that I have a payroll deduction of $20.70 for stock. The purchase price per share on that date is $29.4500. There are no service fees. The transaction shares are 0.7031. In Money, I enter a quantity of 0.7031 and price $29.4500. Money calculates $20.71 ($20.7063 rounded) instead of $20.70 which messes up my paycheck deposit in my checking account. I tried using a negative Commission, but Money wouldn't accept a negative amount. I have also tried using 2 different fields (ie: using quantity and total or total and price) and letting Money calculate the other, but that doesn't match up with my statements either. I read in another thread that Money uses the OS's currency settings (I have XP Home SP2), so I changed my OS's settings out of desperation. It has not helped the problem and as a result, ALL currency in Money shows 4 decimal places (not an attractive result, especially since it didn't help), so I changed it back to 2 decimal places. Am I doing something wrong? Did I set up my account incorrectly somehow (for example, should I have set it up as a 401K even though it's not)? Is there a way around this? Shouldn't we users have the opportunity to override this information if it doesn't match our statements (even though Money is technically correct in it's calculations)? Please help me.     - "Money failed to download the necessary files..." (SP1 Update) Upgrading to SP1, and I'm having a problem that, it seems, no one else is having. I get the message that Money requires a software update, so I click OK. It looks like it's about to go for about a half second but then the little dialog with the meter flashes out of existence and is replaced by another that says: "Money failed to download the necessary files for a software update. Security software on your computer may have interfered, or the servers that provide the download may be temporarily unavailable. Check your firewall, anti-virus, or other security software for settings that may be blocking this download, or simply wait a few minutes and then try again." This has been going on for days, so scratch the "waiting" part off the list. I've completely removed Norton Antivirus and made sure Windows Firewall was off.     - Incorrect dates for electronic payment I'm having a problem that dates back to a service update a few months ago. I'm with Bank of America (Mass.). If I submit a payment on Sunday, and schedule it to be paid on Friday, Money shows the cash coming out of my account on Monday. In reality, Bank of America debits my account on Friday, the same day that the payee is paid. If I make a transfer between two BofA accounts, the bank processes it immediately, but Money says it is several days before the receiving account has the money.     - Problem with BANK and REPORTS I have 3 accounts with my bank. I constantly transfer money (as much as $3000.00/ month) back and forth between the 3 .     - Wrong Due Date on APAYs My APAYs show the wrong due date on the Bills Summary page. For example, a monthly mortgage payment shows the next due date being Mar 2007. A monthly car payment, with only five payments left, shows the next due date being in 2011! The next payment on the Bill Calendar is also missing -- sometimes one or more -- not necessarily related to the missing payment dates from looking at the Bill Summary. This was a problem in Money 2003 before I upgr^H^H^Hchanged to Money 2007. After I installed M2007, I did the File Repair and also the Remove All Bills Data options. This seemed to correct the problem at that time. This weekend, in reviewing some cash flow data, I noted that the issue had returned. (It could have been there prior to SP1 -- the correct date of APAYs is not something I check regularly). So far as I can tell, the instructions to the Bill Pay provider (CheckFree) are unchanged.     - 2007 Budget Problem with "Expenses overr budgeted limits" I have an epay Bill for Natural Gas, in my budget I allocate $70 for category. I put nothing in the "Other Expenses for 'Bills : Natural Gas' " When I go back to my bugdet "Bills : Natural Gas" shows up in the "Expenses over budgeted limits" This bill was paid on 11/7 for 48.08 but the budgeted column shows $0.     - Total Account Value I am a first time user of MM 2007 and dowloaded my account info (for this calendar year) form my broker. Total Account Value seems to reflect the total value of the account minus the cost basis. This seems a bit strange, an account with a Market Value of $5706.5, a Cash basis of $5299.84 is isted as having a Total Account Value of $406.66.     - Download to CSV There is one Institution setup which only provides background banking but not background banking for mortgages. For mortgages it only provides a download option via Excel into CSV. Money shows that it 'is not setup for background banking'. I downloaded the file but I dont know how to import the items to Money.     - Incorrect balances when viewing only unreconciled transactions I have the Canadian version of MSM2005 and it recently messed up my primary account. After importing my daily transactions, it encountered an error and restarted. After restarting, when I view my primary chequing account with all transactions visible, the correct final balance is displayed, however, when I view the account with only unreconciled transactions, the final balance is significantly incorrect. The incorrect balance is appearing in the account summary screen, but the correct balance is being used for all cash flow and bill payment functions.     - Money 07 SP1 still has a bug. SP 1 did not fix the back up bug. If you have chosen to be prompted to Back Up before Money closes then choose File > Close The "Back Up When Money Closes" window opens. You're given the button options of "Settings...", "Back Up Now" and "Postpone". Each being self explanatory. However, if you change your mind about closing Money, clicking the red "X" in the upper right hand corner of the window, closes Money as if you chose the "Postpone" button instead of just closing the window and letting you return to using Money.     - Issues when Generating Monthly Report Good morning folks, I come to you with an issue that has me stumped. When I clicked on the "Report for October is available" link, I got a little popup where it was generating the report. One of the things the popup said was "Reviewing your account for potential problems" Then Microsoft Money (I am using 2007) hung. I can see in Task Manager it's using CPU and growing in memory, but I let it run for maybe 20 minutes and it was still hung. The application had to be killed. I went to the reports area to click on reports for other months. I saw that the April 2006 report and everything older, works. May 2007 and forward has the same problem as October, above. So I am thinking there's something wrong w. May's data that's screwing it up forward? But not sure what to look for.     - Money 2005 Keeps Locking Up When I go into account ledger sheets I can open my Money homepage which has my listed accounts and balances. When I click on any of the accounts to go into the ledger screen my computer immediately locks up. There is the money header on the screen but the ledger portion is empty. The computer immediately "locks up" and the mouse freezes. I try a soft boot with task manager and that function even locks up. I eventually have to do a "hard" shut down every time. I have tried using the system restore function in Windows XP to a prior point when the Money program was working correctly and that did not help. I also tried uninstalling money and then reinstalling it and that has not helped. The account list and correct balances show on the first page when I open Money but the problem starts whenever I click on any account. Reading the newsgroup might offer some insight.

There's the in-program resources like help.

There are some FAQ sites. Mine's at http://umpmfaq.info.

Open the Sample data file and study it.

Those come to mind quickly.
