    - money backup I have a Dell 4600 Dimension Desktop. I am running XP with Money 2004. The default backup setting is to the c: drive. I want to back up to a dvd/rw drive also. I go to the backup dialog box and there are two drop down boxes. The first one is for the c: drive and the second should allow me to choose another drive. Unfortunately the second drop down box defaults to my e: drive which is the compact flash drive on my printer. It will not allow me to change this to the dvd/rw drive. It is highlighted in blue and when you click the down arrow there are no other choices just the e:drive. On my older computer running money 2003 in Windows 98 2nd Addition I was able to back up to the hard drive and the zip drive at the same time. What am I doing wrong.     - [RESOLVED] Money 05 OFX import? Guys, I finally had enough of this problem and went thru the OFX, transaction by transaction, to find out WTF is wrong with Money 2005. As usual, it's something stupid: if your OFX statement has an & in it, Money 2005 can't import the OFX file. I guess they're using an XML parser which doesn't like that very much. To "fix" this, change your file association for OFX to notepad, replace any &'s with something else, and save the fixed OFX to the desktop, then import it manually with Money.     - Update through money.msn.com but not in the program? I just had a quick question, that I hope someone can answer. I"m using Money 2005. To use autoupdate features for my bank Money would have to use Yodlee to download the updates. Everytime I have tried to "setup online services" in Microsoft Money it has failed with either a "Unable to create account at this time" type message or "Failed to get updates" and of course I also then get duplicated account names in Money. I just chucked it up to I was one of the unlucky few where I would not be able to get auto updates...and would continue to download transactions into Money manually. However, when I recently logged into money.msn.com and logged in via my web browser... msn showed my bank account updated with new transactions I had not manually downloaded into Money yet.     - mis.exe won't close down. I am running Microsoft Money 2004 Financial Suite on a fast computer (AMD Athlon 64, 1GB DDR RAM, 200GB Hard Drive) with WindowsXP Home. Frequently when I go to close Windows and shut down the computer, the task manager tells me to wait while it closes mis.exe and then I have to click on "End Now" before the system will continue closing. I believe mis.exe is one of the Money files. Can anyone tell me what is happening here and how this can be resolved?     - 2005 Upgrade from 2004 Issues I am a long time user of Money. I was using 2004 and upgraded to 2005. I have run into several issues. Some I could fix and some I am still trying to deal with. I still have time to go back and reload 2004 and not lose too much. Here were my issues. -For some reason, several of the begining balances did not come over. This caused my account balances to be off. (I fixed these) -The bills and Deposits is 5 times longer with many repeats for some strange reason. It will not even let me edit them. (Might have to delete all and reenter??) -My 401k account and another investment account are showing a sell in the cash transactions as Payments. Therefore decreasing the balance instead of increasing. If I edit the transaction and select the field sell again then click enter to save, it changes it to a deposit. (I have a lot of these and it will take some time) -I had the issue of two accounts when I setup my bank online. It created duplicate transactions that I deleted. I should have deleted all transactions in the newly created one then merged the accounts. Anyway, did it manually. This is what I have found within the first 30 minutes of converting.     - Synchronize between 2 money files I would like to extend usage of money for my wife's finance. For this functionality I would like to manage my finance from my notebook, which is not always connected to same net as my wife's notebook. Therefor I would like to have some possibility of synchronization of several accounts between these two computers (even shared datafile could be kept on third computer with shared drive). I don't wish to publish financial data to any web server. Is there any solution for this kind of functionality? I'm thinking about similar solution as Ultrasoft Money for Palm uses for synchronization. Currently I use Money 2000 and this could be reason to upgrade to newer version. Thanks for info.     - Changing Canadian Dollar Currency Symbol Money 2004 Deluxe I cannot rename the Canadian Dollar currency to "$". To rename a currency go to <Tools> <Options> <Currencies> tab, select the currency then <Rename>. I can change it anything but "$" but when I change it to "$" Money changes it back to "CA$". I'm sure it has something to do with US $s so I changed the symbol of US Dollar to "US$". This didn't help, I still cannot change the Canadian dollar symbol. This works in Money 2003! Why not 2004? So after thinking it over, and talking to a few people first. I thought about trying it. I figured, what have I got to lose except 6 stamps and $6.00, right? So I invested the measly $6.00!!! Guess what? Within 7 days I started getting money in the mail!!! I was shocked!!! I figured it would end soon, but the money just kept coming in!!! In my first week, I had made about $25.00. By the end of the second week, I had made a total of over $1,000.00!!! In the third week, I had over $10,000.00 and it is still growing!!! This is now my fourth week and I have made a total of just over $42,000.00 and it is still coming in rapidly!!! It's certanly worth $6.00 and 6 stamps!!! I have spent more than that on the lottery!!!     - Ameritrade Account Online update issues Microsoft Money 2005 Premium Edition I have four different accounts with Ameritrade, most of the time they do NOT update at all, once in a while one of the accounts might update (different one every time) but the update would be three days behind the current date. Like today, Nov. 2 one account updated to Oct. 30th, the other three had 'update unsuccessful' . This has been a problem for about two months now, Ameritrade confirmed a problem with their server at that time and told me that they were 'working with Microsoft' to fix the problem.     - Not matching transactions I have it set to not automatically do anything. I've tried resetting the account quite a few times with the help of technicians, but it's too long and involved, and I'm tired of rebalancing the account every time. I have 3 accounts, 1 works without passport and does fine. One of the others I can manually download from the web site, and have no problems doing it like so and decided this is the best way, prior tries it wouldn't work with passport. But the other still insists they are new transactions, and I can't download from their site directly. They only allow Quicken users. Purchased 2005 because I thought I could get this bank to work with Money. And it does if I start a brand new file. But this is way too much work with importing etc. Also I can't reset the online web site. Never seems to work for me, or something... firewall etc is blocking it from working. Can't delete files online manually, cause it deletes them from my Money computer file without asking. So closing and reopening accounts causes too many problems. Each month we put money in it to pay bills, get groceries, etc. I would like to establish a budget that will be associated with this account. For example, if for some reason there is less money in the account then usual, I would like to see the budget overview reflect these scenarios. I forced my through the budget wizard and created a new group and specifed an income to mimic the amount that we transfer into the joint account, but I'm not happy with this. Basically, I would just like to create a budget linked to one account. Any ideas, tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.     - Restore a backup I by mistake cut and pasted the backfile from one one workspace to another folder on the same computer. Now when I try to restore that back up file, prompts me with 'please insert next backup disk. The file containing "" " I know I do not backup my file on multiple drives.     - Problem restoring to Money 2005 I had been using an old version of Money - I think it was 99. My computer crashed. I upgraded to Money 2005 and tried to restore my back up file. I keep getting an error message that the drive or file is locked for reading. The file is on my hard drive, neither it nor the drive are locked. Any ideas?     - Transfers out of budget accounts I know this is a popular theme here in this newsgroup but i'll throw it out there anyways... My issue is in the budget. I was able to get it to count all of my transfers under a special "Transfers to Know for Budget" category. I have placed all my savings goals and etc here that were not being captured by the "Transfers out of budget accounts" line item in my budget. The actual probelm is that when I view the annual/monthly budget in reports view it counts my stock/mutual fund purchases under this "transfers out of budget accounts" category.     - Money 2005 - A Management Problem do It is just amazing how a major corporate entity like MSFT could allow the issuance of a package with so many bugs and issues. Where are the checks and balances, the management scrutiny? Is top management taking responsibility for this? I would assume that if users were allowed to charge back to Microsoft their time that was wasted working through these issues (and eventually returning the software), MSFT might take note - and maybe try to it right the first.     - Money 2005 As A Gift:? AreThere "Significant" Problems With ? Hello: Am thinking of buying a present of Money 2005, standard ed. for a person who is already using Money 2002. He tell me though, that the reviews of the 2005 ed. have been really bad, and he's not sure if he wants the 2005 edition, or if he should consider Quicken instead. He is very happy with his 2002 Money, however. Might someone please comment and offer their opinions on the 2005 Money vs the 2005 Quicken ? I upgraded to Money 2005 Standard and intended to restore the back up file from 99. However, 2005 keeps telling me it cannot read the mbf file, that the drive may be locked, which it isn't.     - help balancing account I'm misunderstanding something fundamental about balancing accounts in MS Money 2004. To get started I downloaded several ofx files from my bank and imported them. I marked all the transactions as reconciled and tried to balance the account. My statements show a starting and ending date and a beginning and ending balance. I have tried entering a statement starting date for "Statement date:" and the starting and ending balance from that statment. The result I get is: "Money has calculeated a different starting balance than the one you entered." Why is it asking me for two dates and one balance? You may or may not be able to.

Sometimes you can rename the file to *.ofx and File->Import it. It
is worth a try.
