I have Microsoft Money 2005 Deluxe, Version 14.0.120.1105

After clicking around the program for half an hour I have completely
failed at finding out how to record a stock split. I have followed
the directions:

Investing > Portfolio Manager > Record a special activity

In my case the "Record a split..." option is disabled (gray) and
therefore unclickable.

If I right click on the Symbol, the "Split Shares" menu option is
likewise disabled.

Does anyone have a clue why these options are not available or what I
can do to enable them? I need to record a split!

Thanks in advance.

On the Details page for the security, what does it say for the
InvestmentType?

Bingo. You nailed it.

I have it set to "Index", which in retrospect was a terrible choice.
I was not aware of the implications. The actual security in question
is an ETF that tracks a major index, so I thought "Index" was
appropriate.

Based on other forum posts it is not a trivial task to change this. I
will have to rename it, create a new one, then move all transactions
to use the new stock. Frankly I don't see why that is necessary--
surely the software should be able to automate that task. If I can do
it by hand, why can't the program?

Anyway, thank you for your assistance as I believe this is the right
direction...

What you will want to think about is whether you want to change that
to a Stock or a MutualFund. With a MutualFund you can do
LongTermCaptialGain etc. So I think that will be the best choice in
this case.
