    - Microsoft Money has stopped working Every time I open my money file, Money crashes almost instantly and displays the message that "Microsoft Money has stopped working". I have tried following some of the suggestions already posted and it still isn't working. I am able to open the sample money file. When I go to repair my money file once in the program then I get the following error: "The utility could not repair your file. Repair a different version of your file, restore a backup or reinstall Money. You should also make sure your file is not saved as read only. (0x800a1462)" I am using Money 2007 on Windows Vista Enterprise SP1. I have tried reinstalling Money and still recieve the same errors. Any help is appreciated.     - Money Plus "not responding" OK, so I upgraded my Money 2006 to Money Plus Deluxe, and now when I open Money, it freezes while the CPU hangs at 100% while showing that Money is "not responding". If I leave it alone for about 5 min, Money will eventually open, but will still freeze and not respond intermittently (usually when trying to go back to the home page). Opening the sample Money file seems to work OK. I have tried restoring a backup file, as well as attempting to repair the existing file, but both have netted no results. It sems to me there is a problem with my particular money file, but I have had no problems until trying to open Money Plus Deluxe for the first time. I am running XP. Any ideas??     - 401K Contributions in Tax Estimator Is it possible for Money06 to keep an automatic tabulation of 401K Contributions from my paycheck in the Tax Estimator like it does for other transactions (interest, charity contributions, etc)? I have money being transferred into a 401K account (which is set up as a retirement account) each week, but when I do the tax estimator it shows "$0.00" when you check "use Money's amount". Usually you can click on the tax-related heading and manually add transactions for the tax estimator to use, but in this case, the heading is not clickable.     - Can't enter activation key for Money Plus Deluxe My activation key for Money Plus Deluxe is composed of one group of two letters and then five groups of five letter/number combinations. I can only enter four letter/number combinations in the activation boxes. When I try to enter the fifth letter/number, I get a "ping" and it won't enter. Therefore, I can't activate my program.     - Lost Password Hi all I am using Money 2002. It is associated with an old Passport which I have stopped using generally as I have a newer passport associated with a newer email address. I am not aware of doing anything to disturb the old passport and the email address associated with it is still fully functional. However a few months ago the passport stopped admitting me to the internet features of Money. However I just carried on with the old password and used the system without the Passport facilites, as I now only use the product for my household accounts. This morning I thought I would insert my newest valid passport and was in the process of looking in Money for the feature to update it interupted and closed Money. I did not believe at that point that I had changed anything though I must have because now the product will not open with my old network password or my new or any reasonable combination.     - getting returns / credits to show up in reports & Insights correct I am curious how to get the following to handle as I would expect. If I purchase something and record it as an expense in an expense category, things of course work as expected with reports and the "Insight" thing where you can see your progress against budget categories. (i.e. I buy $40 of stuff at Home Depot and record in the Home Improvement category). However, if I return $20 of that stuff, and record a credit against the Home Improvement category, these do not get included in the reports or the "Insights" graphs. Am I missing turing on some setting, or I am recording this incorrectly. As it stands this makes it hard to know how you are really tracking to budget .... or maybe this is a way to encourage me to never buy more than I need to start with :) thanks.....     - microsoft money plus deluxe after using ms money plus deluxe for about 6 months, including the sign in feature so that I could download from my checking account, suddenly when I tried to sign in I got an empty screen--no sign in. I uninstalled money and reinstalled it. After hours of setting it up and bringing in the old file, it worked again. That was two weeks ago. Today it happened again. I'm getting sick of spending hours reinstalling. What is going on here. I hadn't even used the program for 3 or 4 days when this happened.     - Unable to update bank sign-in information I am using Money Plus Deluxe v. 17.0.120.1415. After many months of successfully downloading transactions from Juniper Bank, the bank required me to change my password, which I did on the bank's Web site. This resulted in Money no longer being able to download transactions, giving the error message, "Your sign-in information doesn't match the bank's records. Verify your sign-in name and password with your bank or brokerage, and then provide your sign-in information again." The problem is that when I follow the link to do this, and enter and confirm the new password, it doesn't "stick." Money returns the same error message when I try to update transactions again. When I again look at the screen to update sign-in information, I see that Money still has the old password! I know this because even though the password is only displayed as dots, it has the number of dots for the old password, not the new one, which is longer. Note that for Juniper Bank, Money uses a full profile, where the password is entered. The password can't simply be entered in the "Update Now" dialogue box. Any help would be appreciated.     - Interesting viewpoint on Quicken One of my clients fired up Quicken this morning to pay me for some work, so I asked her how she liked it. As a retired single woman, she's happy with Quicken for her personal finances, but she doesn't like QuickBooks. She keeps the books for a small non-profit, and they have an endowment fund that's invested in stocks and mutual funds. She said QuickBooks has no way to track investments. She has to fake it with an asset account and periodic appreciation/depreciation entries to account for market shifts. This has no direct bearing on Microsoft Money, other than as evidence that switching to Quicken is no magic solution. Even their flagship product has significant deficiencies.     - Updating your accounts... Hello, I have been using Money for a few years now, but am having an issue that I do not know how to resolve. I will try to explain as best I can, so here goes. I have a CC (Discover) that I was not able to update for about 9 months due to the fact that there is a time limit on the online updates within Money. I recently installed Money 2007 and was able to perform the transaction downloads. This is where the problem begins. Downloads and updating took a minimal amount of time, maybe a minute or two up to this point. However, by downloading transactions all the way back to September 2007 the computer would not merge all transactions. It got to November 19, 2007 and quit. Now when I update it just keeps going and gives me a message of insufficient memory after running for several hours. Does any have any ideas on how to get Money to download and/or merge transactions from November 19, 2007 to the present? As a secondary problem, I imported a statement I downloaded from ING and it is now currently performing the "Updating Your Accounts". And has been for 4 hours now. There were only 16 transactions in this statement so what is taking it so long? Is it still trying to merge the CC transactions?     - Processing a loan against a 401(k) account Does anyone know the best way to setup this up on Money 2007 Deluxe? My 401(k) administrator - JPM - will end up removing shares for the balance of the loan and then adding shares back as I pay it off each pay period. They do not allow me to download transactions, so all entries will be done manually. Should I setup a separate Loan account linked to thie 401(k), setup an "loan" investment, or just remove the shares / add shares as I repay.     - Another transfer question Hi, I have read all posts regarding transfers between 2 acounts but I could not find the answer to that question. I download all operations from my bank web site. I have a few accounts. I frequently do money transfers between 2 accounts. I do it online most of the times. Here is the problem description: - I download operations including some transfer from account A to acoount B. - All operations are automatically imported into Money. - I open advanced regsiter for account A and categorize the transfer operation as "Transfer from/to account B". - Still in Money, I open account B. I see that Money has added a transfer operation corresponding to the one in account A. The problem is that I end up with 2 transfer operations in account B. The one downloaded from the bank site and the one that Money added in response to categorizing the operation in account A. Account B does not balance.     - Cannot View Downloaded Transactions. I have MS Money 2006 Deluxe. I downloaded transactions from my bank via ofx file and the import is successfull. When I go to Account List on the right hand side it shows "Transactions To Read:70" but when I click I do not see any transactions.     - Tracking Lendings and Borrowings How do i track money i lend to friends and relatives and the money i borrow in MS Money? These transactions don't have any interests. Currently i created an Asset account and a Liabilty account. I transfer all my lending to Asset account and move back from Asset account when they pay back. The same for my borrowings. When i borrow, i transfer from the Liability account and transfer back when i return the money. This path servers to major extent but little difficult when i want to track how much does X owe me and how much do i owe to Y. Do i have to create a seperate account for each person?     - Managing your stock options Managing your stock options Vivek is a 53-year IT professional sitting on a large chunk of stock options. He has managed to accumulate them during his tenure of over 20 years. Thanks to his busy schedule, he didn=92t find the time and necessity to diversify his portfolio and was very content with his equity portfolio. With less than 10 years left for his retirement, he has now realized that he should have booked profits from his portfolio as his stock was one of the underperforming sectors in the 12-18 months. Though things are beginning to look up for IT sector thanks largely to weakening rupee, he is upset with notional loss. In a city like Bangalore, you would find many Viveks who believed that their stock options could take care of their entire future needs. However, many of these investors forgot the basic rules of investing =96 diversification of portfolio. Irrespective of the market trend, it is never a smart idea to put all your eggs into one basket and that holds good even for stock options. While those who acquired their ESOPs (employee stock options) more than a decade ago may be sitting on huge wealth, these investors too would have missed opportunities of wealth creation as markets gave handsome returns between 2003 and 2007. Hence, one needs to treat their stock option portfolio too as any other stock and should resort to profit booking and create wealth out of it. As you would agree, no investor would park his entire earnings in a single stock and hanging on to stock options is no different. Here are some tips for managing your ESOPs if you are sitting on them. Profit booking at regular intervals: Wealth creation is not only about accumulation. Profit-booking is an integral part of wealth management and in fact, it is tougher to take a sell call than a buy call. Though a long term investment strategy pays, it may not be a panacea for all, particularly when an investor=92s wealth is concentrated in a single stock or sector. As you are aware, companies that were among the top 10 a decade ago, have failed to make it to the top 50 and your company is not completely insulated from cyclical vagaries. Hence, it is crucial to sell your stock options at regular intervals and the same can be invested in other stocks or mutual funds. The allocation depends on a number of factors such as your age, your short and long term goals, your liquidity needs, etc. One of the options could be to reduce holding by selling 5-10% at regular intervals or fund some of the fixed expenses such as children=92s education through the sale of these options. Diversify with other products: Needless to say, after the sale of options, the funds need to be deployed to meet your long term goals and the best way to go about the same through diversification of portfolio. Funds available from the sale of options can be used for investing in other stocks or diversified funds. One can also use the portfolio management service option as this would ensure diversification without actually altering the equity weightage in a portfolio. Besides diversifying the portfolio with other products, even dividend income can be used for building other classes of assets. Since dividend income can run into few lakhs of rupees over a period of time, the same can be used for various other products such as pension plan or even insurance cover. If your company has the habit of paying out more than two dividends in a year, use them for your SIP with half-yearly frequency. The only hassle with an SIP is that the amount gets fixed and dividend may vary from one year to another. If I click on the others, I just get "The webpage cannot be found".     - Money problems My copy of "money" was upgraded to 2005 Delux edition in 2005. Las year I purchased the 2007 edition whioch stated that "data on previous editions would automatically be converted: but attempts then .and again now result in a message to the effect that it could not install data from pevious editions. Due to lack of capacity on my old computer I have purchase a new one and as I no longer have the 2005 installation disk I intended to add the old hard drive on the new machine. Unfortunately the New machine runs on "vista" and is incompatable with the XP system. So today I searched for and purchased a 2005 edition of money,loaded it on my new computer and tried to restore the data from back up on a memory stick, The program appears identical to the old one but all I get is rubbish when I try to restore the data.     - How does money get its data? I bank with Navy Federal Credit Union and I am *trying* to adapt to MS Money plus (demo right now) from scattered use of Quicken. I'd like to learn how money gets my bank information so I can make an educated call/complaint to the credit unions technical group about the data I am getting. I am currently testing two mny files, one automated and one manual. Today with NFCU, when I do their recommended manual method by signing on to the website, selecting a date period then importing a QIF file, all the transactions show up as "POS Debit Visa - Acct#last4" and no other information. If I managed to enter the transaction from the receipt before the download, I prompts me to match it. All is good except I don't always, rarely actually, get receipts from my wife, nor do I often enter receipts as soon as they happen. Having just entries for POS Debit Visa - Acctlast4makes it very difficult to use Money to its fullest potential unless I manually fix each and every transaction which is equally as frustrating and each account is a seperate download to boot. On the automated downloaded file, all was great up to today, for the most part. However, today NFCU updated their online account portal so users can now see pending transactions (authorizations) plus cleared transactions in one browser window to explain to the user the difference between available balance and current balance. Before todays website update, when I downloaded transactions, they would show up with regular payee names like Home Depot, Seven Eleven, etc. As of today, each download is doubled with one transaction showing the payee name as usual and a matching transaction showing only "POS Debit Visa - Acct#last4" and you have to watch for and delete them. This happens on every VISA/Debit card transaction. I would like to call them and complain and ask them to fix it, but is it really their issue? It will be an uphill climb as they do not support either money or quicken, just imported files. How is Money getting the file on the background downloads? Does the windows live account actually log in and cull data or is the bank providing some sort of file they can correct? If I cannot get them to fix either the duplicated entries on the downloads or the lack of payee names on the imports, money is useless to me and I really like this program and would like to use it.     - Monthly spending analysis Hi I'm a UK user, using Money version 14, but I don't think this question is particularly country-specific. In order to help me analyse my *monthly* expenditure I want to see spending by category averaged out on a monthly basis over the last twelve months. This is really helpful in smoothing out peaks and troughs and setting a monthly budget. I've done this so far by exporting data from an annual-expenditure-by-category report into Excel. I set up Money to produce a report for, say, the year ending 30th June. Then I paste these figures into Excel as a column against the list of categories. I'll also have columns for expenditurein year ended 31st April, year ended 31st March etc. Because these are annual figures I then have another worksheet in which all of these figures get divided by twelve to give average monthly expenditure over the twelve months in question. To get to the point, this is all a bit clunky, with plenty of scope for difficult-to-trace errors being introduced, and I'm wondering whether there's an easier way to set up such a report within Money itself.     - Using M2007 at home and travel Good dayâ?¦ I currently use MS money 2007 on my home desktop cpu. Can anyone provide exact details on how to also run MS Money 2007 on my laptop while on travel? It becomes increasingly necessary to have it available. I do not foresee a SLA issue. How can I keep them both current (updating while on travel and at home as well) and not create a nightmare or corrupt something?     - customize home page Layout? And while I"m here... I'm using Microsoft Money Plus Deluxe. I'm guessing there is no way to edit the "Spending by category" pie graph that shows up on the home page. I don't like the info it shows. I just upgraded to Money Plus this weekend. One annoying thing is that
whenever I click the ? icon (Help), it automatically resizes my Money window,
essentially maximizing it and then fitting in the Help window to the
rightmost side. This is EXTREMELY annoying. I now have a 24" monitor and I
have sized and placed my main window in Money exactly where I want it, but
this just totally blasts it away!

I suspect there is no "fix" for it, but post this in hopes the Microsoft
developers recognizes their minor, but very annoying, oversight on this.

You are in the right track. everytime that you click on the ? icon,
money will resize and put the help window to the right side of your
screen.
