    - Reoganization of a Mutual Fund I have Money 2006. I have a mutual fund that was reorganized and was a non-tax event. All the shares were sold from the old fund and reorganized to a new fund with a different share price. I tried everything to capture this exchange, but can't show it accurately as a non-tax event and correct cost basis. Any help would be appreciated.     - Budget: Transfer vs. Payment Money 2005 Deluxe I've set up a budget. Many items have been added as a result of having created a series of bills in "Bills." 1. I have a number of credit card accounts set up in Money. Four out of the five "bills" I've set up show up in the Budget as "Transfers out of Budget Accouts." But one shows up as simply a payment. (FWIW, the "transfers" have an icon next to them with a horizontal bi-directional arrow, and the renegade has an icon with an arrow pointing up.) All payments are made from the same checking account.     - Report problem Home & Business 2003 My Profit and Loss statement suddenly stopped figuring in last years beginning inventory and items removed from inventory for personal use.     - What the heck is going on? I am thoroughly disappointed my Money trial and I'm only 3 days into it. As some background, I was a longtime Money user who two years ago switched to Quicken (for a variety of reasons). I have a home network that has a router / firewall and Zone Alarm personal firewall. I have had this in place for over 2 years with no problems using any applications. I am secure, understand networks and manage my network myself. I recently tried to upgrade to Quicken 2006 and had nothing but problems in getting connected to the internet in the new version. There are numerous references to this on their own website and elsewhere on the net. Their support personnel noted they are aware of the issues, but that Quicken only supports certain firewalls (wouldn't tell me what the approved list is -- though shouldn't matter as Zone Alarm and NetGear are very widely implemented systems). So, I decided to go back to my good ol' Money thinking the integration with IE and the web would be easier; my thinking was "all my other apps work in this environment, Intuit just screwed up". I downloaded the Money trial and then tried to connect. I wasn't excited to see the requirement for a Passport, but I went along and used mine. Ever since, I am ALWAYS getting the "...sign-in information could not be verified..." error. I then went through their 11-step error correction process (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891338 -- what a joke) only to have the connection session hanging for the past 15 minutes. What have Intuit and Microsoft decided to do to make this "better"; by adding their own forced network security because of all the people who have no clue what they are doing? That's great -- for them, but those of us who know how to secure our networks should have the option of turning that off. Also, what is with the requirement to be on-line to add a new account? This is just not right ... I feel like I'm trapped in this application hell, brought on by upgrades to 2006 versions. Unless someone gives me some solid information on valid fixes for these issues, I am going back to Quicken 2005. Any help (other than opening up a port as part of a DMZ, or purchasing of more firewall software, or turning off of my existing firewalls) is greatly appreciated.     - Performance by Investment Account Report This report is skewing the performance of an account as a result of one investment as follows: 1/1/05 - 12,260 shares in the account at a value of $46,465.40. 5/16/05 - Transferred these shares to another account The value at the time of transfer was $40,580.60 The report shows a return for the period (1/1 through 12/31) of ($34,153.40). I can't imagine where it is getting this number. I would think the effect on this acoount would be the loss or gain in investment value at the time it was transferred.     - Classifications I'm having a little trouble understanding Classifications in M04. I've browsed through older threads and I think I've got the concept (i.e. why their used and how they relate to categoires/subcategories) but I don't fully understand the specifics of setting them up. I am trying to use Classification(s) for rental property. What I don't understand is the relationship between the various levels. It seems that the levels involved are: Classification: Class: Subclass Is an appropriate use of this feature for my purpose like this? Properties (Classification): Rentals(Class): 123 Maple Street(Subclass) or...     - Money 2006 - Does not work as advertised!!!! I have had Money2006 for over a month and during that time I have been unable to have it download my account information successfully. I have accounts with 2 different institutions, one for savings and checking and the other for investments. Only once did money properly download info from the bank. It correctly downloaded the 2 account numbers and the checking transactions. It did not download any info for the savings account other than its number. As for my investment accounts, I tried to download my accounts from an investment institution. I have 4 accounts there. After the attempted download it displayed 4 accounts without any details except some transactions. No positions or account numbers. I bought this product because I thought I wouldn't have to go the pain of manually transactions. My mistake was not getting around to setting it up until it was too late to return it. argh!!!!     - Tracking & updating Multiple Credit Cards from the same bank I know this issue is covered within this discussion group. I have tried the suggestions presented without success. So, I'd like to vent my frustrations with MS Money 2006 Deluxe and beg for mercy. Help! Between my wife and I, we have 4 credit card accounts with one bank. Capital One. I am able to successfully set up 2 of the 4 accounts in MS Money 2006 Deluxe. On one occasion, I set up 3 successfully. When I attempted to set up the 4th credit card account from the same bank, MS Money 2006 Deluxe modified the 3rd credit card account settings with data I was entering for the 4th credit card account. I have not been able to get a 3rd credit card account successfully set up from the same bank since. Frankly, after hours spent over 3 days of trying to make things work, I am really very frustrated. While, I don't know for certain that the issue is with MS Money 2006 Deluxe, or whether it is with Capital One, but because I can only successfully set up 2 of the 4 credit card accounts in MS Money 2006 Deluxe, but I can log into all 4 accounts successfully online from the Capital One website, I'm leaning towards the problem being with MS Money 2006 Deluxe. And, reviewing the way MS Money 2006 Deluxe seems to handle the set up of the credit card accounts when they are multiple credit card accounts from the the same bank- ugghhh! If the problem lies with Capital One, I apologize Microsoft. Further more, it's now 2006, and I don't understand this difficulty or complexity. I've been a computer operator, network technician and administrator for most of my adult life. Setting up numerous online banking functions for the companies I have been employed by, and it's just has not been that difficult a task.     - Available balance? Is there a way to distinguish actual balance from available balance in Money? I may have a large check that doesn't clear for 10 days but there isn't a way to show this to Money. My bank's online banking does show the two balances.     - Annual Returns Calculation Money states the following: An annualized percentage return is the annual profit on an investment as a percentage of the amount invested. Money uses the Internal Rate of Return (IRR) formula to calculate the annualized percentage return on each investment. Why does money use IRR when nothing else uses this.     - Money 2006 - Payee List My new year's resolution is to clean up my Payee and Catagory list in Money...consolidate catagories, payees, etc. I just went to the Payee List for the first time in awhile and noticed that in addition to picking up the Payee from the Payee field in the check register, the Payee List also picks up on the Memo field in every one of my investment accounts and shows any memo as an actual Payee. Strange, but when I got to that transaction and erase my memo, it stops showing up as a Payee. I don't want to erase all my comments from all my transactions in all my accounts, but it would eliminate a few hundred extra payees from my Payee list.     - Money 2006 Custom Reports I have created 5 custom "Payee Reports" and have marked them as Favorites. But when I try to make changes to these reports (changing the date range), Money does not allow me to make these custom changes to each report. Rather, it modifies the master "Payee Report" and forces my changes on all custom "Favorite" reports. Hopefully I've explained this well....am I missing something?     - Money 2006 Deluxe - Forecast Issues Hi, I'm setting up my accounts in the Trial version - just to see how the new software works. One thing seems to not be working - the forecast does not seem to want to bring in any budgeted item and only includes items listed in scheduled bills. This is not particularly helpful in a forecast, although I quite like the result it gives, but it would mean not eating for the rest of the year amongst other things! I have amended all the settings in the "Change Cash Flow Settings" screen to cover all possible permutations as well as those that seem most reasonable! All the documentation and help suggests that the forecast should be able to include all budget items (if you are using Advanced budgets - which I am) or past trends. - The radio button is clearly displayed against "Amounts from my current advanced budget" Can anyone help?     - Connecting with Money Deluxe 2006 I am confused by this issue. My money Deluxe 2006 seems to be online/connected sometimes and then it isnt. I will be able to do everything and then it is as if it is not connected and tells me I need to connect to the internet and when I click yes it doesnt do anything but if I close the program and restart the program then I am connected again.     - Bank Acct Auto Update without sync to MSN I would like to have my accts auto update without syncing to the MSN website. I would also like to not use the passport password. When I remove the pasport password and create a local password, I no longer am able to auto update from my bank. Do I have to have the MSN passport and web access to do this?     - Joint Accounts? I'm using Money 2006 Standard and have run into an interesting problem. My wife and I are using the same bank (USAA, which we love). Originally, under /my/ account, I created us a Joint Checking Account, and a Joint Savings Account. When I used Money, I connected online to my bank using /my/ account information, and it automatically pulled in all the accounts listed under me at my bank (Joint Checking, Joint Savings, and Single CC). No problems here. My wife recently decided she wanted to start a single checking account for herself. As we already had Joint Accounts, she was already a member. I simply set up her online information, and Money automatically pulled in all of /her/ accounts listed under her name at the bank. /However/, while it successfully pulled in her single checking account, it also pulled in the Joint Checking Account and Joint Savings Account as well. When Money connects to our bank and updates our accounts, it updated the Joint Checking & Savings /twice/ thinking they're different accounts. Because I don't want to throw off all of my expenditure tracking and so forth, I thought I would just delete the accounts. But trying to delete them my only option would be to delete the bank account, which would also require me to /not/ track her personal checking. I tried closing the account in Money, but it /still/ updates the transactions in it, throwing everything off. Thus far I've been having to delete all transactions in the duplicate accounts every time Money downloads account information from my bank. Is there any way to tell Money that these accounts, even though they're listed under two different bank accounts, are the same? Or to get those two, and not the personal account, not to update? Or what should I do? I'm tired of deleting all the transactions in the duplicate accounts, but so far its all I can come up with. Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated.     - Lifetime Planner absurd figures The college expense estimator tells me room and board for an undergrad at UF (here in Gainesville) costs $273/year, and Out-of-State tuition (which I would not have to pay) costs -$714 (yes, that's a negative sign). Obviously I have to ignore that and enter my own value, but can someone else replicate it in M06 Deluxe? There should be some reduction in food expenses at home when my kid leaves, but there is little or no change in my housing expenses (hot water?) and the college room costs are cash out of pocket.     - Auto Assign Category for downloaded transactions (turn off) Question: Is there a way to turn off the auto assignment of categories for downloaded transactions in Money 2006? We shop at Walmart, Costco, etc. where we purchase many different goods. We split most of these transactions into multiple categories. Money remembers the last split we have made and automatically assigns that split/category to the next dowloaded transaction from that store.     - Money 2006 upgrade/MSN Billpay I upgraded from Money 2003 Deluxe to Money 2006 Deluxe. I used to make epayments out of the register for an account "A". After the Upgrade, I had a new account "B" which was now associated as my MSN Billpay account. Account "A" is no longer assoicated with Billpay and I can't make epays from the register. I can't merge duplicate accounts. These 2 account don't show up in the list. I can't find a way to associate my existing account with billpay. Any ideas?     - Archiving Confusion I recently upgrade to Money 2006 from 2004. My primary data file is full and I'm wanting to archive 2004 and 2005 respectively into two separate files leaving me with virtually an empty file for 2006. Everything seems to work fine EXCEPT for Checking Account transactions that involve my mortgage and payroll transactions. For some reason during the archive process, transactions with the 2004 date that should be archived are remaining in the primary file. If subsequently deleted, they alter the Mortgage account as if the payment was never made. The same is true if I delete the payroll deposits - it wipes out the related 401K contributions from my investment account. Is this normal? Some changes I have made lately have left me out of sync: #1: Under my accounts, there is an 'MSN Bill Pay Checking' account. I never added this account although its been there a while. Why is it there and how did it get there? Just by synchronizing with bill pay? This account balance is always $0. #2: My main checking account was confused (bank error) and it was just too much trouble trying to balance all the erronous transactions, so I decided to delete it and reimport it a) I deleted the account out of MSN bill pay (moneycentral website) and after some trouble (I had to mail in a blank check), readded it b)Money refused to let me delete it as it was my main bill pay acocunt - it only allowed me to 'close' it. Even after I deleted the account out of the bill pay service at moneycentral (see a) c) I reimported the account successfully, but Money still obvioulsy remembers the old instance (it calls it account #2). d) Now when I try to pay my bills from Money, it does not show me my checking account, only the bill pay checking account in #1.     - Buying in margin -- Money is overstating the assets in my account When I buy stocks in margin, Money mistates the amount I have in my account as a total of my assets. For example, let's say I have $50,000 cash, and then buy $70,000 worth of stocks. After the transaction, Money says that I have $70,000 worth of stocks. However, this by itself overstates my value.     - Problem with a closed account I have been using MS Money 2004 for the past couple of years, mostly as a glorifed check register, but also the debt reduction planner feature. Starting with this new year I've decieded that I want to set up a budget in Money and have been trying to do so this morning but I'm having a problem with an auto loan that I paid off four months early this past month. The problem is that even though this loan is paid off, with a zero balance, and has been "closed", the original scheduled payment of $475 still shows in the monthly debt reduction portion of the budget that Money sets up for me when I use the autofill feature. I have tried everything that I can think of to remove this closed loan from my monthly budget but can not seem to figure it out. Can anyone here offer a suggestion?     - Change an Investment Type in Money 2006? In Money 2006 there does not appear to be any way to indicate the investment type of a new investment or change it after it is created. On MSN Money the investment (symbol FVL) is listed as a stock, but it is a closed-end fund. I need to record the year-end capital gains distributions, but since Money thinks it's a stock, I can't do that. The only transaction types that are allowed are Dividend and Other Income. How do I record both Short-Term and Long-Term capital gains? How can I change the investment type to Mutual Fund (or some other type that is more accurate)?     - 2006 pull-down windows hangs I recently installed Money 2006 on an IBM Aptiva 2163 running Windows 98 SE. I have had problems with pull-down windows from day 1. Not all - for example, within an account register I can pull down the window for "debit" and "next check number", but many other windows will not open to allow me to select an option for 20 minutes or more. I see the "not responding" when I open the Task Manager, but eventually, 20 minutes or so, the pull-down window will open. Each additional click on a pull-down menu, except for those which are not a problem, results again in a 20 minute delay. I also tried updating my accounts within MSN Money. The message said this could take anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. I have a cable connection so it should have been fast, but again this update took a very long time before I cancelled it. Any ideas, I'm out of them. I have done quick and standard repairs, reinstalled Money 2006, all to no avail.     - Mismatching of downloads with manual data I suppose there might be "no answer". But just wondering if anyone has an idea why... I manually enter my checks when written (so that the payees are properly recording in my ledger. If I don't money always records the same payee to downloaded checks, the one in the last ledger entry for a numbered check). Then when I download (via qif file), Money (2005) matches the downloads with the manual entries. And I've never seen it err before. However today it decided that the match for a manually entered numbered check (not yet cashed in reality), dated 12/22/05 , was a cash withdrawal, from a teller, made on 12/30/05, for the same amount. I Didn't catch it immediately and accepted the match, and so I had to delete that transaction. Then when I imported the same file, it still did not recognize it properly, but assigned it as an unnumbered check, with a payee matching the most recent one before that for a numbered check. This morning I can't add anything using "portfolio changes" i.e. reinvest divids, etc. Tried completely uninstalling and reinstall from CD. Tried a second file, and previous backups. One of the 'features' I like is when viewing upcoming bills on the Bills Summary screen you can highlight <ctrl-select> what bills you want to pay and see a running balance at the bottom of the screen.     - Newbie problem with amortization calculations Hello, I've just today installed Money 2006 Deluxe trial version; a full version is on the way, which I am beginning to regret. I've only gotten as far as downloading my checking account from my bank and TRYING to establish an account for my mortgage. I have entered the information five times now, but the mortgage amortization Money calculates simply will NOT match my bank's. It starts off being off by a few pennies at best, and escalates by the end of the amortization to being off by anywhere from a few dollars to fifty or more. Money also will not allow me to make the mortgage come out to 360 payments. I can make it 359 payments... or 358 payments... but not 360. Is this just the way it is? Am I doing something wrong?     - Money Small Business 2004: Category does not show up in P&L Report I use Microsoft Money Small Business 2004. I have created new sub-category Frenchise Tax under Business Taxes with supplying all requested information. like inclusion in Schedule C , type of Expence (Business ) I have assigned this category (Business Taxes : Franchise Tax ) to a transaction entry in my register. I run the reports->Business -> Profit and Loss statement, This entry does not show up in the report. However , when i assign this to other previously existed category like Federal Taxes , it does show up in report. Also, When I look up in category Screen, the trasaction indeed shows up here under "Business Taxes : Franchise Tax". Can you explain it why? Newly created category is supplied with appropriate Schedule C information. I looked up the settings in category screen for both "Frenchise Tax" & "Federal Taxes " , they are all same..     - How to open Money 98 file with Money 06? ok, ok, ok...it seemed so easy, but has me stumped at the moment. I built a new computer for my parents for christmas, and was trying to transfer all the files that they use over to the new one. I am opening them in the new programs, and making sure they save in the new format, so there will be no future problems. Everything has gone well, until I got to MS Money. The file from their old computer is for Money 98, and I installed Money 2006 on the new computer. I have tried opening the file, its backup, restoring from a backup, etc, without luck. In some cases I receive an error message, saying to send an error report, if I am restoring from Money 98 or 99, and to follow the links...the link is broken, and I am told 'there is no additional info available on this topic'!?! When trying to restore from a backup, it says that it cannot open it, because it's a read-only file, or I do not have permission to open it. Or, that it may be open with another application. OR, that I need to restore the file from a backup (even though that's what I'm doing!) Are there any other options for opening this file on the new computer/with Money 2006?     - How to input "Keep the Change" transactions with Bank of America I just signed up for the BofA "Keep the Change" program and need to figure out the easiest way to set this up in MS Money 2006 Deluxe. This program rounds up my debit card transactions to the nearest dollar and puts the difference in my savings account. They match 100% for the first 3 months, and then 5% thereafter So...how do I do this? My first thoughts are... 1. Create the Savings Account in MS Money--Doh! :) 2. When entering the transaction, I enter it as a SPLIT..for example.. A purchase of 99.01 at WalMart for FOOD would be split as: Food: $99.01 Transfer : BofA Savings $0.99 Any other suggestions? decrease in stock prices for the different stocks I have in my account? I'm
not looking for a dollar value change.

Column A = stock in my portfolio
Column B = stock price on 1/1/2005
Column C = stock price on 12/31/2005
Column D = percentage change in stock for the year

The investment performance reports show the % increase in value for selected
investments for a given date range. However, the percentage also includes
dividends and reinvested dividends. It will not show the percentage increase
in share price alone. You could export these reports to Excel and add a
field to calculate the percentage increase in share price.
