 - Prompts come in two's? Ok another question. I recently installed Money 2006 Premium on my new computer. When I start the program I get two of the same prompt windows (an offer to upgrade to 2007). I close one and the same thing pops up again. The same thing happens when I close the program but with the option to back up prompt instead. I close one and another pops up. This really isn't a big deal but is this normal? Should I be concerned that something else in the program is running in duplicate? Penny R Tag: books Tag: 211707

 - Money 2006: Why do I have to remove an entry, in order to make it balance? I posted a question related to this a while back. I entered an electronic payment via MSN Bill Pay on 7/13/2006. At the time that I did it, something went wrong. I don't know what, I don't know how and I don't know why; but something went wrong. I decided to wait until my bank sent me the monthly statement, to try and figure it out. I got my bank's monthly statement. I discovered that MS Money 2006 hadn't entered the amount for the MSN Bill Pay, so I entered it in for the amount of the bill, on 7/13/2006. Then I went through the rest of the balancing of my checking account in MS Money 2006. I didn't balance, however. I was off, exactly by the amount of the bill I tried to pay via MSN Bill Pay. I see on my bank's statement the amount paid by MSN Bill Pay on 7/13/2006. I also got onto the MSN Bill Pay website and saw the same thing there, for the amount. But it was NOT in my ledger for my checking account in MS Money 2006, which is why I entered it by hand. But I'm off by exactly that amount. So, if I remove the payment I entered by hand for the amount that I DID pay via MSN Bill Pay, then my account balances in MS Money 2006. Why is it that I have to remove a charge that did occur, that is supposed by my bank's monthly statement and MSN Bill Pay, in order to make MS Money 2006 balance? What's wrong with it?  - Money 2004 - Problem downloading from Fidelity I have multiple accounts at Fidelity (Brokerage, 401(k), IRAs, UTMA) in my and my spouse's name. My problem is that Money 2004 inexplicably stops downloading transactions from the Fidelity accounts. It will still update online quotes, and credit card transactions from Discover. The only way I can download Fidelity transactions is to go to the Online Service Manager and discontinue using the service, and then go back to setup service. This becomes a pain when you have to do it every two weeks and then you have to match each account in Money with the corresponding Fidelity account number. I use Zonealarm firewall and AVG antivirus on my Win XP PC. I have disabled these in the past to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Rick Tag: books Tag: 211692

 - Money 2007 Deluxe and Vista (Beta 2) After having significant problems trying to get Money 2006 to run properly in Vista, I decided to upgrade to 2007 yesterday. Now I can't get the install program to run. After a successful download, the installer fires off and imediately returns the message: "This program has been damaged, possibly by a bad sector of the hard drive or a virus. Please re-install it." I'm sure that the hard drive is fine and there isn't a virus. Any suggestions? I saw elsewhere a suggestion to try XP SP2 compatibility mode. That doesn't seem to work either. Thanks!  - Money won't download transactions from my bank I bank with Washington Mutual, and up until July 21, I would download my transactions everyday and they would come across just fine.  - Problem With ' in Words Like "Don't" Showing Up In Text As Symbol How do I correct this problem? When I send a message and use the apostrophe to shorten two words to one; i.e. don't, can't, John's the apostrophe shows up as a weird symbol. Why is this and what can I do to correct it?  - Budget Question- Income disappears after i entered it I set up the Essential budget by entering my income and expense.  - Product ID in $2007 I was trying to contact support via Chat (a very helpful tool by the way)...and it would not accept the Product ID (aka Serial Number) that I entered from my registered version of $2007. I assumed this is because the PID validation tool has not yet been updated to reflect $2007, but nonetheless, I'm dead in the water until I can get it to recognize the PID.  - Best way to balance an OLD account? I have a couple accounts that have little activity (e.g. Savings)...so I tend to not pay close attention to 'balancing' them on a monthly basis (since they don't change that much). This has lead to my now forgetting to balance them at all when activity does occur. Net-net - I'm WAY out of balance - due primarily to TRANSFERs between accounts (and how I didn't know how to reconcile these in the past - which created duplicate entries - I've since figured this out - I think). So now, I'm trying to get these accounts current, but my statements don't go back far enough (this account is almost 10 years old) to allow me to sort through the erroneous entries. I want to just start over, but the account is tied to my bank. I've tried CLOSING the account and creating a new one, but with the old one is apparently connected to my bank, and therefore won't create/update.  - $2007 peformance By biggest issues with recent versions of Money deal with performance. I've read several posts that indicate deletion of recurring bills and deposits and reentering them "solves" this issue for many in $2007. With that in mind I download the trial version of $2007, tried navigating around and performance seemed to be the same as $2006. Then I deleted bills area (using utility provided) and I now see a significant increase in performance while the size of the file did not change (38MB). That brings me to my question. Is there any "technical" explanation as to why this "band aid" works? I can't believe that the existence of a small table of scheduled tasks (in my case 40) causes serious performance issues. Is this truly a "band aid" and the problem will again raise its ugly head in time? Or did MS actually fix a problem. If its truly a fix, why not fix my data upon installation of $2007 rather than making me delete and re-enter it?  - Money 2006: Recurring Mortgage Bill not matching Account Info For some odd reason...which I can't figure out...my recurring bill for my mortgage does not match what I've put in the Loan Information, despite me updating the Loan Information with the correct info. Is there any way to get the two to properly match outside of recreating the entire mortage account (which would really suck in this case, since it is my mortgage and there's a decent amount of payment history there)?  - I have a few questions about things in MS Money 2007 H&B ...??? First, on the business side of things, I've been creating some invoices and have been able to mark some paid (woohoo!) When I click to apply payment to an invoice there's an option in there to apply current credit to that payment with just a check box. The dollar amount is $0.00 and I can't change it. Where do I change this!? I had a perfect example where I had actually given some credit to the client and I needed to use this feature but I can't find where to actually create credits that can be applied here. Second, I'd like to track how much Income Tax I owe on my current sub-contracting income. I've created a liability account in Money and named it Income Tax. Is there a way I can have this account automatically update itself based on the invoices that I get paid for? For instance, I tell it what tax bracket (or percentage to tax my income) and add it here for each paid invoice. Is that possible, or do I have to add that into this account manually?  - Need Major Help with Money Small Business 2004! Okay, here are the following problems that I have: 1. I cannot figure out a way to create an asset depreciation account. 2. Budget: I cannot add business categories to budgets. However, I run a business that operates out of my home and need to be able to incorporate such categories as electricity, phone, etc. into my budget. These categories, however, are able to be written off so they are business categories.  - Money 07 Deluxe Crashing Just installed Money Deluxe 2007 (upgrade from Money Deluxe 2003). Having issues syncing Money and MSN Money Central. Each time I select Tools > Settings > Receive account updates from MSN Money My Accounts > Next > Next, Money crashes. I see the window that says "Updating Account Info". The icon is moving, giving me the impression the update is in progress. I then get Windows error reporting pop-up. I click to see details, and it says: AppName: msmoney.exe AppVer: 16.0.0.621 ModName: uparser2.dll ModVer: 16.0.0.621 Offset: 00015842 It will not allow me to copy/past the technical information.  - Money 2007 - Debt Reduction Planner I have setup credit card accounts and line of credit accounts. The minimum payments are not rounded to the nearest dollar. When you move these accounts into the Debt Reduction Planner they round the minimum payment up to the nearest dollar. At the end of the DRP it sets up your payments automatically. If it uses the minimum payment, it says that there is unassigned money. I know it behaved like this in 2005 also, so I assume 2006. Why does it round up? Tag: books Tag: 211623

 - Is this another change in M07 Updates? I noticed today after updating my accounts that I had only one account, my checking account that had a transaction download. That is not abnormal at all. What I then noticed on the "Unread Downloads" Page was the date of the last statement. The date is today for the checking account and the Investment Accounts since presumably they downloaded transactions (even though the positions were unchanged on the Investment Accounts so Money 07 took care of that itself). On the other accounts, the date of the last download is the date that the last transaction came in (late June or early July for some of them). Of course, Updates connected to these banks today as was made clear on the Review Update Results page. If this was always the behavior, then I missed it. Is this new in '07 or was I just unaware.  - money 2006 activesync with mobile 5 device issues Well, actually one issue, my activesync connects well with my mobile 5 ppc. I just installed it and during "synchronization" I have a separate window that states "reading database". I thought that this was normal and it would take a few minutes.  - Adding new account to same bank In Money, I have an checking account set up for a particular bank. I have since opened a new credit card account with the same bank. When I try add this account via. Account List- Add a New account - Choose account type (select credit card) - (Choose the bank) - I get the message "Your account list already contains accounts with (particular banks name). After Money updates your accounts, review the account list to see if it shows duplicate copies of any accounts... click "OK". If I click OK Money changes the exiting accounts type to a credit card account instead of adding the additional account at the same bank. I didn't have this problem when I added the checking and savings account at the same bank when I first set them up. Of course at the time the program asked if I had additional accounts at the same bank. How can I add additional accounts to the same financial institution after the original setup opportunity?  - Custom Date Range for Budget Hello, I use 2003 Deluxe for my personal finances. I recently volunteered to be the PTO treasurer and was hoping to use Money to keep track of our checkbook register and budget, and also to use it for reporting. Is there any way to set custom dates for a budget period? I see that I can choose "this year" or "last year".  - According to Google - The Secret Shopper Scam is Extremely Active There are a lot of people looking up the Secret Shopper Scam - especially on Google. In the Secret Shopper scam, people are solicited to become "Secret Shoppers" - sometimes known as "Mystery Shoppers" - and go into (normally) Walmart to negotiate a bogus check (Walmart recently got into the business of cashing checks).  - Still looking for bugs ? - here's one Just updating M2006 prices and some quotes missing, so I did it manually. I HAD connected to Fidelity to fetch an email and while there I checked my portfolio to get the quotes. While connected, I noticed my cash reserves balance was off ( interest last month ? ), SO in Money, I pull up "brokerage account " - "account summary" - "Adjust balance" from lower left - click in the Cash box and - get a bugcheck - 3 times in a row. I never tried to do this before in M2006 - does it work for others ?? Then I got the " Send bugcheck info" and I guess that it's gonna kick me out of Money so I close IE,OE etc and sure 'nuf Money closes then reopens. AND I'm thinking that I want to check the file first ( since it bugchecked), but how do I do that with M2006 Deluxe ? I have a choice of OPEN - New - Close - REPAIR is not an option ( with no file loaded anyway) With M2004 I would open Money - before Login, I would File - Open + Repair (or some similiar wording ).  - Internet connection When I installed Money 2007, my internet connection was thru port 80. Subsequently, my ISP asked that I change to port 87. IE, Mail, etc (everything else) has made the adjustment, at least by the next time I rebooted the machine. Money tells me I am not connected to the internet, when I am. The only way I can get into Money online is to change the port number each time I use it. Any way to get Money to intelligently use the connection settings every other program uses?  - MVPs - Which version are you using? I've just recently upgraded versions from 2003 Deluxe to 2006 Deluxe...2003 seems to be the last year people 'liked' the Money product. After reading more and more on this newsgroup, I'm getting nervous that I may have made a mistake and debating about if/how fast I should back peddle and try to get my accounts set up in new 2003 file again. My questions are this: a) Am I right in saying that the general consensus thinks 2003 was the last 'good' product (MVPs you can ignore this question if you want) b) Will 2003 continue to work? Reason I upgraded was I got a dialog in 2003 saying it wasn't going to be 'supported' (I believe that was the term) and don't know if that means you can't call MS on issue (which I never did) or if it will not work and banks will nto support it. Any insights? c) I'm probably the opposite of most people in here in that I am not a Microsoft Basher but for the most part a big fan. THe little that I have used 2006 Deluxe, I only have one issue so far (see 'Budget Alerts' in Account Register post) but I may well not be a MS Money power user - primarily just use it to download stuff into registers, see account totals, and get 'budget alerts' (although that is what is missing for me right now). I only recently tried the lifetime planner and I'm not sure I 'believe' it (numbers don't seem 'right')...also I was a bit surprised I had to enter monthly contributions manually to investment accounts even though I had monthly transfers set up. The 'budget' doesn't seem any better or worse in 2006 than it was in 2003, but I might be missing something. Bottom line...I'm paranoid that something 'bad' (and I don't even know what that is) is going to happen and wondering if I should try to recreate a new 03 Money file (can't use backup as I've been running 06 for a few months and backup is too out of date).  - 'Budget Alerts' in Account Register Budget Alerts in Account Register I've upgraded to 2006 Deluxe from 2003 Deluxe. In 2003, as I entered transactions in my registers (one Visa and one Bank), if the category I was spending money on went over a budget, I got prompted about it. Along with that prompt when I went over, it also had a little bar graph (similiar to the Spending Tracker you can get on the home page in 2006) for *only* that category. This was nice as it allowed me to see amounts as I entered them..and also *annoyingly* prompted me as I went over budgets...again making me 'think' about the spending. I liked these features they 'seemed' to have disappeared from 2006. I know I can see the spending tracker on the home page, but I rarely site around on the home page looking at 'entire overview'...I'm primarily entering transactions in my two primary accounts.  - Monthly Budget Amounts Hi, I am trying to print a monthly budget report that will show the monthly amount for all bills and budgeted items, including items I pay every other month or yearly. I am finding for items I have set up a yearly budgeted amount, the monthly amount is displayed (which is what I want). However, for items that I have set up a yearly budgeted amount AND set up a yearly bill, the monthly amount displays as zero. The only time I can get these items to appear on a monthly budget report is when I run a report for the month the bill is paid. Then the amount appearing is the annual amount and not the monthly amount. Has anyone run into this situation and any ideas for a work around? Thanks for the help. Tag: books Tag: 211526

 - Not matching stock symbols for Merged duplicate accounts Ok, have an existing investment account in Money 2007. Stock prices update OK. Set account to receive online updates. Account correctly created and viewed in MSN Money and linked to Money 2007. Duplicate accounts created OK. Merged duplicate accounts OK.  - using MSN Bill Pay for checks WITHIN Money 2007 I just updated to 2007 since I heard they fixed the integration with MSN Bill Pay (which I use to pay my bills). Previously I had to use the MSN Bill Pay Interface to pay bills. What I want to do is stay inside Money when paying a bill or writing an electronic check. Ideally, I would enter it directly into the register and then hit a "Send Electronic Check with MSN Bill Pay" option, or at least enter it into the Bills window and have it pay with MSN Bill Pay, but this option doesn't seem to exist. In the Bills interface, the only option I get is to "Write Check". In other words, I want to find a way to easily pay a bill or send a check using MSN Bill Pay from WITHIN Money, WITHOUT logging into the MSN Bill Pay interface. Is this possible? I just haven't been able to figure out how to do it yet. I HAVE managed to tell Money that MSN Bill Pay is my electronic bill payment provider - but not sure how to make use of it. Any pointers?  - M2007 Crash Arghh! Since Microsoft forced me to change to M2007 (from M2003) because of internet services, the M2007 program has been crashing repeatedly, but inconsistently. At first, it crashed whenever I would try to access the Bills section. Reinstalling M2003, stopping the APAYS, reinstalling M2007 and doing a Remove all Bills seemed to fix that. Then it would crash when accessing the Lifetime Planner. Another repair (2nd level) seemed to fix that. Now it crashes after sending out EPAY's -- the crash comes after receiving the acknowledgement message and the EPAY seems to be OK. Interestingly, when I restart Money after one of these crashes, it first displays a window with a "thermometer" and the label "Working". A more informative explanation would be useful. My suspicion, since the Window looks the same, is that it is doing the equivalent of msmoney.exe -s (salvage). The other interesting observation is that if I do a Windows XP "clean boot", this crash after EPAY acknowledgement does NOT occur. So it seems as if there is some conflict with some other program. This never happened with Money 2003. Although the Investment Performance reports seem to be fixed, c/w M2003, the ONLY reason I changed to M2007 was because of the loss of some of the Internet services which I use (not syncing, but I do need quote downloads and it is useful to be able to download information from my banks from within Money). I would have gladly paid to continue the Internet service, without being forced to change to this new version which is going to require more troubleshooting than it is worth. If Moneydance had had an easy method of extracting the Money data, I would have switched. If this crashing problem is not resolved by the end of the year, I will probably just start the new year with a new Moneydance install and get rid of Microsoft Money completely. --ron Tag: books Tag: 211510

 - What does "Enhanced MSN Bill Pay" in Money 2007 mean? I have used Money and Bill Pay for several years. A couple years ago, I had a corrupted file and had to rebuild my money file. I've never been able to sync my new file with the Bill Pay site (I got the duplicate checking account so I just never bothered to get synced). What has really annoyed me is that when I choose the date of the transaction and click submit payment, the date in the register is neither today's date nor the date I chose for the payment. So my balance is completely screwed up until the transactions clears (because the date field is locked on epay items) Now (in the last two months) my MSN Bill Pay transactions are clearing at the bank as POS online payments... so they don't update with the correct date and "E" when they clear at the bank and I have to manually clear them (with the wrong date) when I reconcile the account. I had decided to stop using MSN Bill Pay... and then I say the marketing tag for 2007 about enhancements. Will the enhancements solve any of these problems? Thanks, Heidi Tag: books Tag: 211503
