Category Issue
Hi Folks!
I have a loan that I set up in Money 2004. I set up a
budget that takes in account what amount I spend to
service the loan each month. The category that the budget
function in Money uses is called "Loan: xyz." Okay, after
doing that I thought everything was fine and dandy.
However, here is the problem: I pay my loan using my
checking account. When an entry is made to pay my loan
the category that I'm using is "Transfer: Loan: xyz." The
problem is, how does the budget know that I have paid the
loan when my checking entry is using the "Transfer: Loan:
xyz" category? If I just use the "Loan: xyz" category
then the xyz account doesn't show an entry which credits
the account; therefore, the balance is declining.
What should I do? What procedure should I use?

Currency not working properly
Hello;
I am living in Canada and when I create a invoice it
changes the amount. For instance, I have created a
product for $12.00. When I put it in the invoice it
comes up as $15.28, the U.S. equivelent. I have told MS
Money to use Canadian dollars as the base. I have also
gone into my computer and made sure in the regional
settings it was set to Canada, Canadian English, etc.
Running Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 and MS Money 2005.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

ARGH Money 2005 - Removed Features and MSN Money problems.
Well I figured out my problems with duplicated Bills, MSN Money. Apparently
online data was being downloaded and merged into my local data. Each time I
tried to troubleshoot the problem the data on MSN Money got worse and would
then be merged with local data. My fix was opening Money with no Internet
connection. THen going into Money and instructing it to delete my MSN Money
data. Seems to have worked thus far.
Now I realize that two features I used in Standard have been moved to the
Deluxe edition. Debt Reduction Planner and Cash Forecast are gone from
Standard. Not sure why since the features have been there since they were
introduced. Now I can't figure out any way to upgrade to the better version
at anything less than full price. Of course I can't return Standard since I

Microsoft Money. The path is not properly set up in the registry or has been
moved after running Money's Setup. Please re-install Money. Otherwise, Money
may not be able to run properly.

MSNBill Pay not working after Upgrading to Money 2005
Hello,
After Upgrading to Money 2005 I was prompted to Stop
Using MSN Bill Pay in order to setup online accounts.
After setting up Online accounts I am unable to get MSN
Bill Pay to work with Money.
I also Went out to the MSN Bill Pay web site and tried to
log in. It's as if my acount has been deleted or
deactivated. The web site lets me log in with my ID and
password, but once in it prompts me to sign up for MSN
Bill pay. Has onyone else had this problem? Do I have
to create a new MSN Bill Pay account to use with Money
2005? If so, what about my past bill history - is that
gone? I've sent 2 messages to Microssoft support with no
response as of yet.

M2005- No Transaction Matching
I can manually enter a transaction into my Bank of America Checking register
and then synchronize and exact matching transactions are entered as new
transactions instead of combining with the match as in Money 2004 and
previous version. We're talking the same amount and the same exact date.

I have been trying to install the trial version of money
on windows nt. However, the installation is never
completed. The message I get is this: money requires
either windows 1998 second edition, 2000 service pack3, or
xp.

BOA Credit Card Statement not downloading
I download statements from Bank of America. I am able to successfully
download the statements (via Active Statement OFX files) without any
problems for checking and savings accounts. However, Money 2005 will not
download properly for my credit card account. When I open the OFX file,
Money 2005 waits for a bit (while the hour glass is on) then says that the
import was successful. However, nothing ever gets added to or marked as
cleared on my credit card account in Money. It is as though Money is
processing the statement but never really does. Again, OFX statements for
checking, savings, etc work fine (download and process correctly); only the
credit card statement doesn't. This all worked fine in Money 2004.
Any ideas on this and a possible solution? Or do I need to file a report
with MS Support?

Money 2004 or 2005 (Stock option wizard problem...)
Hey all,
I am wondering if anyone has seen or knows of a solution to the
following problem:
I have two grants of stock options from my company.
I set up a new investment account and use choose employee stock option
and follow the wizard to set up the details of the first grant.
Everything is ok and I then see the grant-vest-expiration entries in
the account.
I then use the new transaction button the add the second grant and go
through the wizard for employee stock options again and at the end I
receive the following message:
"Money failed to create the employee stock option Grant transaction
and cannot proceed with the creation of this employee stock option
grant. Please try the wizard again."
I had the two grants successfully entered into Money 2003 and upgraded
the file successfully into 2004. Severe file corruption caused me to
recreate the file from scratch using 2004 and then saw this problem.
Just upgraded this new file into 2005 successfully however I still
cannot add the second option grant.
Any ideas?

MS Money 2003 UK Version
Dear all,
I am getting this error when I try to create a new account
with the nationwide building society.
"Money cannot complete a required online call at this
time. Please check your Internet connection settings and
try again"
The only suggestion online appears to be that my IE has
become corrupt. I do not think this is the case for me, as
I already have 3 other accounts registered with
Nationwide, and they are working fine, including direct
downloads.
Can anybody advise how to debug this issue. I suspect the
firewall of SP2, but disabling it has not helped. Does
anybody know the ports used by Nationwide so I can
experiment opening them up on my hardware router/firewall.
Alternatively, does anybody have any solutions or
experience with this.

How to subtract out taxes?
I run a current month profit/loss report. It displays taxes I've paid on
each paycheck as an expense - correct. However, I don't directly spend this
money. Is there a way to use a profit/loss report but subtract out the
taxes from paychecks during the month?

Downloading bank statements and date format error???
Just installed Money2005 and when I try to download my
financial statement it gives me an error that the date
format of the downloaded file is incorrect. It worked
perfectly in M2004 and never gave me this error? I changed
the date format through the control panel and downloaded
using other format on website instead of money format and
it works but is a hassle. Also I am Canadian and had to
change to US English settings on my computer to get the
correct date format which is annoying. Anyone have any
ideas of a better fix????

Netbank synchronization fails in 2005
I've been using Netbank and Money 2003 together for a
couple of years, and Money was dutifully downloading
Netbank statements just fine until I upgraded to Money
2005. I keep getting a message saying that my sign-in
information doesn't match the bank's records. However, I
can use the same credentials on Netbank's site just
fine.
I understand that MS says some banks have 2 sets of
credentials: 1 for their web site, and one for services
such as the Money download/synchronization. But my past
success with Netbank (using only one user name / pw
combination) leads me to believe that's not ethe issue
here.
Is anybody else experiencing this, and do you have a
workaround? I'm using the Deluxe edition trial before

Subcategories
I just upgraded to Money 2005 and find a useful feature
is missing. I have been using Money for the last 7 years
and enjoyed using a category and subcategory for my
expenses. Now these two items are combined in one
dropdown box and very hard to use. I used to use a
category then tab to the subcategory and pick an item.
Now when I pick a category the subcategories are not
visible unless I use the mouse to scroll through. All
previous versions gave an option of using one box or two
but in the latest version I can't find how to get the two

I think found the source of the ads. go to c:\documents
and settings\all users\application
data\microsoft\money\12.0\webcache\spurl.ini .
Rename this file spurl-ini.xxx . This should remove the

money 2005 update
I have money 2004 and everything works great even with my bank. Updated to
2005, the program just locks up after it converted the file. Used the money
repair program and it fixed something with the bills and desposits.Money
2005 will load now, but it won't update with my bank. It says application or
version not supported, but everything works great except this so far.
I contacted my bank and they support money 2005. Any suggestions.

Every time I open Money 2003 I get two ads on my desktop,
one from ING Direct and one from Bank One. I have done the
tools/options/turn off ads routine with no change. Can

Money 2005 SB can't open Money 2004 File
Hello all, I just upgrade Money 2004 to 2005, both Small Business
version. I have 2 money files, one created in 2004 the other created
in Money 98 and upgraded every year till 2004. The first one gets
converted to 2005 without any problem. But the 2nd one can't be
converted. Money 2005 said it is either locked or protected or
corrupt. But it has no problem at all in 2004
I've tried to delete all accounts in this file but one to elimilate
causes of problems but still have no luck. Can anybody help? I can

Updates to M2005
In the past versions (and also in M2005, I bet), MS has quietly and secretly
(I think the word is appropriate) updates Money without telling us when the
changes were made and what the changes entailed. Everytime we sync
accounts, we would get a msg saying "Your Call was successful" under Money
updates.
I hated that. I'd rather know when the updates have been released, what
they cover, and then decide whether to apply the "patch".
Like many, I am waiting for the 1st major update to M2005 before buying,
installing, and trying M2005.
Will we know when such major update or "service pack" for M2005 is released?

Dates on tracked payments
I just upgraded to 2003 from 2000. I transfered all my
setting over and have been having trouble entering common
transactions like my upcoming bills and paychecks.
When I select a common transaction from my checking
account Bills list Money lists the upcoming date
correctly. When I click on this transaction to enter it
the date is from a month ago.
Is there a cache file or something that I need to deltete

Duplicate Transactions
I create invoices for my customers who order from my
website. I then process their credit card through my
merchant account. That money is then deposited into my
business checking account(less transaction fee)and the
transaction is downloaded from the bank into the
account. When I select the receive payment option for the
invoice it creates a duplicate entry in my business
checking accout? Help!

How do you track returns/refunds in your register?
I buy a lot of stuff, and as a result, I also end up changing my mind and
returning things pretty often.
I keep all of my transactions detailed and categorized, but when I enter a
negative value (say, a 20$ credit on my credit card for a movie I returned),
it's obvious that Money doesn't know what to do with it. It warns me that
I'm adding a credit as an expense. Then, many of Money's reports count this
as an expense (ignoring that it should be counted as -20$).
I fear that the correct answer might be to simply delete the purchase
transaction, and the return transaction, but this will make it more
difficult to keep my register and my bank's register in sync.
Any ideas? How do most people handle this common occurence?

spending thermometers
Help! For some reason or another I can't figure it out, I
lost my spending thermometer on a budget item. It shows up
in the budget as having a budget amount but when I enter
in a transaction it says I have a budget amount of zero
and to enter a spending limit. When I go into
thermometers its says budget amount is zero and I can't

Money 2005: "Spending by Category" says "No data to display"?

On the Home tab under "Spending by Category" I see:
8/30/04 through 9/28/04
No data to display
Well, I do have spending during that time frame. I imagine
that the "Spending by Category" thingy is looking in the
wrong account(s) and needs to be reconfigured. But I can't
for the life of me figure out how -- when I right click it
there's no "Customize" option or similar.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
P.S. I'm able to get data if I click the Reports tab and
then "Spending by Category". It's only the "Spending by
Category" section of the Home tab that isn't working.

ofc files
Hi,
I have been using Money from ver 2003 and I have been
downloading transactions in ofc files and it worked (i.e.
imported to my account in Money) fine in 03 and 04. Now I
have just upgraded my 2004 to 2005 and M05 wouldn't
recognize (i.e. associate them in explorer) my ofc files.
I've pointed the ofc files to be opened with mnyimprt.exe

M05-spikes CPU?
I installed MS Money 2005 Deluxe about 2 days ago.
Everything seems to be working fine.
However, I've noticed the CPU utilization spikes to 90-
95% causing the mouse to jump.
I'm running an AMD 2500+ with 1GB of RAM and no page
file, so I know it's not my system!

Getting "This page cannot be diplayed"
I have been getting the "This page cannot be diplayed" when
I click on either the Investing, Planning, or Taxes button.
When I am connected to the Internet it works fine, but
sometimes I want to check my Debt Reduction Planner or
check on how I am doing with my tax situation without
having to get online. Why does Money require you to be
connected to the Internet just to switch over to these
modules? Is this an issue with Money 2005 Premium or is
there a way to get around it.

Looks like MS has already fixed a lot of the bugs; seems to be working
pretty well for me. I did have a few duplicate accounts after updating them

Turning off commercial links being saved to my Desktop
I am using MicroSoft Money 2004 Deluxe.
Recently, it has started saving ad links on my Desktop
when I do my online updates. If I remove the links from
my desktop they show up again.
Are other experiencing the same?
I am not interested in having my desktop filled with
commercial junk. I would therefore like to know whether
there is a way to turn this feature off?

Money 2005 SB / Invoice Designer BUG
I have read a number of you are having this same issue.
When I created my first invoice and saved it, and closed
invoice designer, it was not in the list when I opened it
next. So I created it again, and this time exported it
so I knew where the INV file was saved. I then went to
import it into Money and got an error saying it could not
be imported because Money cannot import files created
before July, 2002.
WTF?
I contacted live chat support who said the issue was too
complex and to call MS support at 425-635-2030 but this
is obviously a bug so I know there won't be a work around.
Has anyone else had this problem and come up with a

Installing Money 2005 Deluxe
I want to install Money Deluxe 2005 over 2003. An
install screen tells me that an older version has been
detected and it wants clearance to delete 2003, however,
it doesn't tell me if it is going to preserve my data and

Money 04 and TD Waterhouse
I called TD Waterhouse today and received my log in
information, unfortunatley I received 2 different log ins.
One for my wife's accounts and one for my accounts.
The question is, I do not see where I can input both log
ins for money. I only see 1 area for the log in
information. I really do not want to re-key both accounts
everytime I want an update on my account.
Can this be done?

When I try to add a new account (credit card) my credit
card is not listed. I am trying to open up a new account

Budgets and Credit Cards
I am trying to set up my budget in Money. I have several
credit cards with outstanding balances. I want to set up
my budget to make sure I can afford to make at least the
minimum payments each month. I have each credit card
account set up in Money and my checking account set up.
The payments are showing up under each account fine. The
trouble is I can't figure out how to track these payments
in the budget. The budget appears to be able to track the
intrest paid to the credit cards fine but the principle
portion of the payments does not appear to be accounted

Portfolio Manager messes up when sorting by Investment Type
When I sort by "Invesment Type" in the Portfolio Manager
is mixes names of my Mutual Funds with names of my

Override downloaded ticker symbol
I download my portfolio from TD Waterhouse which I think uses the CUSIP
symbol to represent options and not the .xxxxx symbol. I have a number of
accounts and often I have the same option in both. Money always asks if
this is the same equity or option as another one, lets me select it from the
list, but it refuses to accept that I want to keep the existing symbol. It
pops up that confusing Yes No Cancel dialog and just goes in circles. Any
way to get around this? I end up getting duplicated transactions, multipls

Import Smith Barney Excel.csv data
I would like to import my Smith Barney statements to
MS Money2003 via the SB, Portfolio, Download transactions
method. When I did this, it created an Excel.cvs. When
I went back to MSMoney, I could not figure out how to
import the excel file data. It discusses imports of
Quicken QIF or an OFC file, but does not mention .csv, or
any other .extension choice that SB gave me -that I could
see.
Smith Barney says I can import the Excel file to
Money, but they refuse to tell me how once I have created
the file from their website.
I do not want to use the SB $3monthly automatic method.
Can you please help me?

Money 2005---wait awhile
I have upgraded Money several times over the years, and might again from
2004 to 2005. However, I have been REALLY stupid in doing it. I also use
TaxCut every year. If you wait until Tax Cut comes out (late in 2004) you
nearly always get a coupon for a huge discount (or free) Money. The last
couple years, Money 2004 and Money 2003 Standard was "free" with the mail in
thing. Deluxe was something like $20 off.
I am only pointing this out to my fellow Money users, so you don't waste
money unless you HAVE to have the new version right away. Also, never buy
TaxCut from H.R. Block. It's a huge rip-off. Getting the rebate was a pain
(did this twice), delivery was slow and I had to pay shipping. Buy it at
Staples---got there the same day H.R.Block started to ship, was cheaper, had
a rebate and delivery took only as long as the car ride home. The only
advantage of buying direct from H.R. Block was to Henry Block, not to me.

MSMoney. Too bad they're not listed in Money 2004.
Can anyone tell me how to get this set up?
I thought I would just try copying another from
FIPARTNR.INI and editing the web sites, but am not sure
what all the fields represent.
