    - merge checking accounts I just installed Money Small Business 05. Apparently my business checking account was listed as a personal account and it won't merge the existing data with the buisness account data it downloaded. I have two accounts now.     - Money 2005 - Update With help from CAL LEANER --- MVP, I have managed to load 2005 on my notebook and get it to read files from previous versions, but it will still not load on my desktop. I get an error which says some elements could not be loaded, try again. I do with not success. I have tried: Creating a new ADMIN USER, Error message says that 'I cannot load it on this computer as I do not have permission from my network administrator to access 'local machinery reg'. I do not have a network administor. I tried making the 'new' user the only admin. Same error Did a msconfig and tried loading it 'clean boot' mode, (both users) same errors. MS suggested that I remove my Diectway satellite connection, I did this although it is difficult software to reinstall It made no difference!!! I was not happy with MS or their crap software. MS suggested that I do a re-install, install the computer (recent HP) back to its original configuaration and install Money 2005 first. I do not think that this is an accepatble piece of advice. I have had many previous versions of Money, but have nver had any problems. I purchased two copies of 2005, one for the notebook, one for the Desk. I upgraded to 2005 so I could use in with my PDA.     - Bill Reminders in 2005? I just upgraded to Money 2005 (from 2003)and I cannot for the life of m figure out how to get the bill reminders to work.. In 2003 there wa that MoneyExpress program, but I don't see anything like that in 2005. I extended the reminder period out to 30 days and stil saw nothing. Help!     - Money 2005 Perhaps I don't quite understand how to use Money, it's all new to me but this is my question, When I create an invoice and I receive that invoice into my business account it shows as "payment for invoice" but when the check for that invoice is deposited into my bank it shows up as 2 deposits when I download info from the bank.     - Money 2005/2006 Invoices I may see if there is a 2006 demo I can install on a different machine and check these out, but was wondering if anyone looked at invoices in 2006 or have any additional tips with 2004/2005. Problem #1: One of the problems with 2003/2004/2005 is that you can't seem to mark invoices as paid without selecting an account to automatically assign the transaction to. So naturally you get a duplicate transaction everytime on automatic downloads. Solution is to create a holding account you just ignore. Or if you can, merge the downloaded transaction with the payment -- which is really tricky, since you need to split the deposit. Normally your bank deposits contain multiple checks. Any improvements with 2006? Or any new tips on this? Problem #2: When you mark an invoice as partially paid, this is not calculated on the actual invoice. So, you print it out, the total is still the full amount. You can't have it calculate what they actually owe. Solution is to put a note at the bottom what they paid, but sometimes this note is overlooked. Any improvements with 2006? Or any new tips on this?     - Money 2006 suggestion Does anyone else think that MS should just take Money 2004 update the colors and change the "04" to read "06"? Money 2004 is solid and reliable. On the other hand, 2005 leaves a lot to be desired. I have a sinking feeling that 2006 will "build upon" 2005 - sad.     - Report Help For Classifications I'm trying to set up classifications for short-term loans, but I can't get reports to work the way I want. I want to be able to able to track transactions that I do for others, who will then pay me back later. I have set up a classification, called "Loan To" to track the person who owes me money, leaving it blank for my own. I still want to be able to specifiy the catagory as normal (not just sticking with one, like PAYBACK). The trouble is, when I try to generate a report for just one "Loan To" person, it displays all transaction, including those where I left the Loan To field blank. I want to be able to see all transactions for all catagories, but for just the one Loan To person. If I deselect all catagories, nothing shows up.     - Reports do not take credits into consideration I'm having trouble generating accurate reports. I just downloaded the Microsoft Money 2005 Trial and haven't yet set up a budget, so I don't know if that is affected too. The problem is, I have several transactions assigned to a specific category. Some of them are charges (I bought something), and some of them are credits (I returned an item). The report only shows charges, so spending in certain categories is much higher than the actual amount. I searched for an option to change this, but wasn't able to find it.     - Convert Money99 files to later versions I cannot convert my Money99 data files to later versions of MSMoney. Following a hardware failure in my HDD, I lost among other things, my Money99 instalation (and I do not have the instalation CD). Having recovered the Money99 data files from backups, I tried to open them from friends computers running Money2001 and Money2002. I get a message saying that my files cannot be converted because they were created with an incompatible version. Is this a known issue?     - Upgrading to Money 2003 I upgraded to Money 2003 from an earlier version and had problems with getting it to work, in the end I had to e-mail my old version to you and you sent it back so that it would work in the newer version. Since then it's worked fine. However, my processor died. I've now got a new PC and reloaded Microsoft 2003 Finanacial Suite from the CD (Says version 11 in the Help screen).     - Problem Reconciling Account When I try to reconcile my account, Money complains that "the starting balance entered from your statement does not match the starting balance from your money records". However, when I use MoneyLink to import the data for the affected account, the sum of the reconciled amounts DOES match the starting total of my statement. In order to proceed, I entered a different date for the statement, said that the start and end totals were the same, and proceeded to ignore the error. As an example if I write a check each month to the electric company my payee list includes the electric company and, after twelve months, twelve checks to the electric company as payees.     - Budget problems caused by recurring bills I have set up a number of recurring monthly bills (lease payment on the car, Association Fees, Auto Insurance, etc.) Let's take the lease payment of $587.0 er month. When I go to Monthly Budget reports and look at the past 6 months (1/1/05 - 6/30/05), under 'Budgeted Amount' it shows the amount of 1 month's payment($587) instead of ($3,522) 6 x 1month's payment for the period of 6 months that I am looking at. Therefore, the difference column shows that I am in the red by 5 payments ($2,935). I cancelled the recurring bill and editted the budget to show that the lease payment if $587, monthly.     - Accurate Cost Basis and Coverdall accounts I am using MS'04. I setup an Investment account for a Coverdall ESA with 1 Mutual Fund from Putnam. The following is happening and was hoping for some guidance on a workaround. I am using actual cost basis for the fund and it is tax-deferred. 1) In year 1 I made a $500 deposit and the cost basis is showing $500, which I expect. 2) In year 2 I made a $500 deposit and the cost basis is showing $1000, which I expect. 3) In year 2 I sell $10 in shares to pay for a custodian fee and the cost basis is showing $985.xx, which I expect it to be an even $990. It is my understanding the cost basis = buys + reinvest div - sells. Correct according to the Microsoft KB article on cost basis. If so, why is it not using an even $10 for the sell? One other question is whether there is way to enter reinvest dividends into this account without showing up in the cost basis? I am trying to track Putnam's statement which does not include this in their use of cost basis. This is important because I am rolling this account into an existing 529 which needs to have the accurate breakout of earnings and additions and withdrawls.     - Money 2005 Won't Connect To Internet I have been using the online banking capabilities (almost exclusively) since I purchased Money 2005, v14.0.120.1105. Last month I moved and changed ISP from Earthlink DSL to Knology Cable. After the move, I tried to logon and was told Money couldn't verify my information (or something to that affect). I hopped on a browser and logged into Passport and changed my password, restarted Money and again was denied access. I can now open my account offline but Money will not connect to the internet. I contacted Money customer support and was told that my ISP may be blocking a port that Money needs (although he couldn't tell me what those ports are). My ISP says they block ports 135-139, 444, 445, and 25. I have no problem sending and receiving email, or surfing the internet through http and https sites. My software firewall is set to allow Money full access to the internet (as it has always) and I have reinstalled Money 2005 and that has made no difference. Tag: account transactions Tag: 192688

    - Things that have gone wrong with my Money file in the past 2 days 1. My two bank accounts that download statements via the MSN Money website (which in turn uses the Yodlee service) stopped updating both on the website and within Money. The error message said to fix it I needed to stop using the "online services" then reenable it, but when I did, I received an "Account setup is unavaiable" message on one of the two accounts. I did this 4 or 5 times, for kicks. Finally today I got them both to work.. for now. 2. The starting balances of two other bank accounts conveniently reset themeslves from one value to another, seemingly randomly, when I closed and reopened my Money file. This happened a good 2 or 3 times. Finally today the proper values seem to be "sticking". 3. The "Pay to" field for a certain set of transactions in a credit card account was mysteriously removed, set to just a blank entry. 4. A few recent transactions were downloaded from the internet and matched without asking me, resulting in duplicate transactions and crazy balance differences. Nice. 5. This one's wild: I go to Sam's Club for both Gas and Groceries, using the category feature to differanate between the two. Yesterday I noticed in one credit card account, ALL the categories for Sam's Club, going back 2 years, had been reset to a "Split" Sam's Club transaction from about a year ago where I had bought both gas and groceries on the same transaction, and split the two for proper bookeeping. So I had about 30 Sam's Club entries that had the categories all set to "Split" yet were not split transactions. Wonderful! 6. My stock portfolio accessed through the MSN Money website (from a different computer) became horribly screwed about 2 days ago. ALL my stocks were duplicated into the "Investments to Watch" category (which, incidentially, changed names from "Invesments to Watch" to "Investments to Watch-#2", then "#3", and "#4", seemingly at will.) Then when I saved my MSN money portfolio all the duplicates came back into my Money file. At one point something else glitched and I had NO stocks listed in the accounts on the MSN website portfolio (the empty accounts were still there however), and ALL were in the "Investments to Watch" category, despite going into the My Documents folder, deleting the porfolio, and refreshing the whole thing again. I finally fixed this whole thing by a) making a backup of my Money file, b) doing a synchronize in Money, c) going to the MSN porfolio and deleting all the accounts, d) restoring the Money file, e) doing another synchoronize, and f) reopening my MSN porfolio. Of course at this point I had yet another set of duplicated stocks in the "Investments to Watch" section my MSN porfolio, so I g) did a sync in Money, h) deleted the stocks in the "Investments to Watch" section one-by-one (saving the Dow Jones index and the like), and i) doing another sync. She has an extension to do her 2004 taxes till oct 15 2005. She wants to write it off (using all possible) depreciation under IRS rules. I tried reading the rules and am confused. can anyone pls help ? what is the max dep she can write off during 2004 ?     - Missing Transactions - Money 2003 I have had some transactions for a specific payee disappear for a series of months. I know the transactions were in the register in previous months as I have reconciled and created reports using the information. The items are autodrafts that I download directly from the bank. Transactions for this payee have disappeared for activity between March 2004 and April 2005. All other payee transactions in those months are still in my register. When i've tried to download the activity from my new bank account to Microsoft Money 2204 for the first time, i've mistakenly ordered the software to download it to the old bank account in MS Money.     - Money 2005 crashed, now won't open -- HELP PLEASE I am using Money 2005 on XP Home, SP2. Upgrading from 2002, which I used for years was a huge mistake--but I'm here now. Last evening, I spent about 6 hours updating my investment accounts in MSM05. I saved a back-up once during the process, since some months before, the program crashed on me and corrupted the data file. Well, it happened again--the program crashed-- that is, suddenly the Money screen went away and the program was no longer running. I recovered from the back-up I made earlier that evening--for a short time, then it crashed again. This time, that back-up must also have been corrupted, since every time I launch money, it comes up for about a minute, then closes. I went to MS support site, and discovered a "salvage" program designed to attempt to restore corrupt files. I downloaded it, and attempted to run it. But before it will run, it asks for the Password of the Money File. What password? The only password I ever recall entering for Money is my MSN Passport e-mail and password. When I try that, it rejects it. I've tried everyother password I've ever used, and it doesn't accept them. To see if I was somehow missing a setting for password, I launced money and clicked on New in the file menu. I created a new dummy file (it forced me to log into Passport first)--but never asked for a Money file password. Attempting to run the salvage routine on the dummy file led to the same issue--it demands a password, and I have no idea what it wants, since I didn't create a password for the dummy file. So bottom line questions: 1. Assuming I have a corrupt file--how do I recover it? 2. What password is the salvage routine looking for--and how do I retreive it if it generated by the Money software? 3. I'm open to any other suggestions to resolve the problem. BTW, when MSM05 crashed on me several months ago, I spent numerous hours on the phone with MS Support--and the password issue arose then too. Eventually, I restored from floppy disks--which is what I'll do here as a last resort. Thanks in advance for your help!
