Tomorrow! Tomorrow! Tomorrow!
This is when M$ says a fix will be posted. When is
Tomorrow! Tomorrow! Tomorrow! As you say a fix was posted
in the UK today. Isn't that Tomorrow! Tomorrow! Tomorrow!
in Redmond.
Can't they even fathom the concept of geography and time.
Oh, maybe those files are secured by Passport also. Tag: PC World Story Tag: 171643
Sign In Solution Worked
The fix worked. Many thanks to those who worked long,
late hours on this. There were some intermediate
questions you get asked during the process, such as, "Do
you also want to clear your online banking passwords" (I
said "No", and that seemed to work ok.) It might be
helpful to provide a bit more detail of what to expect,
and guidance on how to answer the questions.
Also, perhaps Microsoft needs to rethink the architecture
of how Passport interacts with Money. Maybe like a
secondary password that would allow at least local access
in case Passport gets garbled again. Tag: PC World Story Tag: 171642
PASSWORD Issue
I cannot get into my Money file. I have been effected by
the problem this week. It appears to have wiped out my
passwords. After I managed to resolve the NET.PASWORD
issue Money 2004 then asked for the file password (it was
protected but was never asked for). I can no longer get
in as the password I thouhgt it was is not valid. I may
have not remembered the password. Now I cannot get my
money information. I have tried system restore and a
previous back up but they all want the passworrd. I have
tried what i think it was but no luck. Can anybody HELP Tag: PC World Story Tag: 171638
I can access my files but there's a problem
I was able to access my money file and restore my backup
from the 26th which was the last day I was able to access
it. Everything is fine except for one strange thing. All
of my balances for all of my accounts are about
$628,743,688,565,700.00. Everywhere that a balance is
shown in the program it has a number that is almost the
same, within $100.00. When I click on the Account List
icon, next to subtotal for my bank accounts and credit
accounts it displays: ##err##. How the heck do I fix
this? All of the information in each account is correct
for deposits and withdrawals, but's it's kind of nice to
know my balances. I have a backup from 1 or 2 weeks ago I
can use, but don't want to lose everything since that
backup. Any help on fixing these screwy balances would be
apprecciated. Tag: PC World Story Tag: 171633
Frustrating problem with adding funds ....
Hi
I have a very strange problem. I am testing the trial
version of Money 2004 and it works great with my job
computer (win XP Pro).
When i tried it with my home coputer (Win XP Home) i have
got a strange problem.
When I add investments "Managed funds" and make
transactions like "buy" and "add shares" I can only enter
quantity and price with whole numbers, like 1, 2, 25, 43
and so on. I can not enter quantity and price with
decimals. For example when i enter a price of 8,20 Money
changes that to 82. When I enter a price of 43,24 (43
dollars and 24 cent)Money 2004 change that to 4,324 but
treats it like 4 thousand 3 hundred 24 dollars.
So the total value that Money sums to is should be
8,20 x 43,24 = 354 dollars 568 cent
Instead I get
82 x 4,324 = 354.568,00 dollars( I am rich !!!!!)
I have no problem with this at my my job computer.
How can I solve this issue ??

budget and investments
Buying funds etc. is treated as an expense from the
budget point of view, since investment accounts are out
of budget. I don't think it is correct.
How do you manage this?
If I save $1000 this month and decide to buy a shares
etc. the budget planner tells me that my expenses are to
high... how can I tell to it that this is NOT an expense?

Money 2005 release date

How to print market averages
I use MS Money online to print out a list of my stocks

Thank you.

Sign in solution is availble
Redmond, July 18, 2004, 22:00 PDT
I'm sorry that this post is so late, and I know that folks are frustrated
with the lack of communication. We have been on the verge of good news all
afternoon (and evening), and it is here.
I'm happy to announce that we have published a solution to the sign-in
problem. Users that have been unable to use the passwords or work with their
files offline should follow the directions at:
http://sync.money.msn.com/help/pss/w1.asp
I know that there are additional questions, which I have answered below.
Q1: What happened with our passwords?
A1: On Monday, one of our servers was updated and inadvertently
pointed to the wrong location to verify authentication. The authentication
process worked perfectly - we caused the problem by looking in the wrong
server location. This mistake only affected Money services. (If you think of
your login information as a key, and our servers as a lock, then we changed
the lock on the safe, and the old key wouldn't work anymore. There is no way
for the user [or anybody else] to create working login information. The good
news is that nobody could open the local file because of this mistake at any
time; your information is still protected.)
We corrected the "wrong server location" problem Tuesday morning, and users
who did not login between late Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning should
be able to use their files normally.
Those who were affected may continue to be affected, however, since Money
downloaded some of the garbled information from our servers. (Basically, we
made a copy of the lock on your local file. Why did we do this? Because when
you change the lock yourself, you don't want the old key to continue working
on your local file. You also wouldn't want there to be an easy way for
somebody on your machine to ignore the change in the locks. Of course, we
will look at this scenario to see if we could solve it without decreasing
security in the future.)
This situation has not caused any violation of our users'
privacy, and our online services have continued to be available.
Q2: How does the fix work?
A2: We have carefully recreated the incorrect environment of Monday
evening and a Web page to access it. The web page will allow affected users
to login with their current information and recover the lock information
that has locked them out. This will allow them to unlock their file. It is
important to note that users who changed their password should use their new
password, and that no user will be able to access the lock information for
another user.
Again, this solution does not violate our users' privacy. We are
using your login information to restore the lock to your unique key.
Users who have been unable to access their local files should
open a web browser to http://sync.money.msn.com/help/pss/w1.asp and follow
the directions on that page.
Q3: Why did it take so long?
A3: We have addressed the problem in stages. Our first efforts were to
restore the correct configuration of our servers, while preserving the state
they were in for investigation.
Then, we started a careful investigation of the impact on users. Naturally,
we are very careful when dealing with users' login information and follow
strict procedures to protect their privacy.
We have identified three different states that users' files can be in, and
we worked on fixes for all of them. We realize that it was important that
the fix be thorough.
At all times we were working as directly and hard as possible at getting a
solution out to the affected users as soon as possible.
Q4: What if I still can't access my file?
A4: You should send email to mnyngsup@microsoft.com.
Q5: Was this Passport's fault?
A5: No. Passport was working correctly, and always did work for access
to our online services, such as MSN Bill Pay. The issue relates to Money's
server interactions with local Money files.
Q6: Why does Money use Passport for the local file?
A6: We use Passport for a number of web services at Microsoft,
including financial web services that we offer through Microsoft Money.
Since the local file can access these services, the file needs to be
protected as well. For ease of use, we use the same system, Passport, to
protect access to the local file. Users that do not use the web services do
not have to use Passport for the local file.

Money '04 lock out
I'm surprised by the tone of many of these posts--it's as
if people are empathetic with MSFT on this Money fiasco.
There is no doubt here; MSFT really screwed up on multiple
counts, the first not telling us exactly what is going on.
How many of you spent hours trying to logon, search the
MSFT knowledge database for a solution, call up their
service center, etc? For instance, why don't they have a
bulletin on their Money support site explaining what is
going on?? They don't want to publicize this issue? At the
expense of all of thier customers that are trying to
figure out what's going on?? That is quite poor customer
support--inexcusable. I'm just pissed that I ever signed
up for the useless .net passport thing in the first place--
I can't wait to disable this feature as soon as I can
access my Money file....which will be when???????? Midday
tomorrow? We'll see.... Tag: PC World Story Tag: 171617

Hi,
How do you completely delete a budget? I started a new budget (deleting the
old one) and the old one still exists in graphs.
I found i wasn't happy with how the budget worked with multiple accounts so
i don't want to have one at all now.
Thank you in advance,

PASSPORT PROBLEM FROM A NON-USER
I am sorry to read about all the problems users are having with interfacing to
Money. I remember a few years ago when passport was first offered on Money. It
took quite awhile to get them to stop bothering me to sign up. Since I use AOL
I didn't want another email and I certainly didn't want everything interfaceing
with my personal financial data on the internet. Since I had no need to have my
Money data anywhere but on my home computer I stayed away, and I sure am glad I
did. I get everything I want from Money by using the software without all the
automatic uploads and downloads. I decide when I want a stock update and that's
about the only thing I download on a regular basis. I manually input my data.
No big deal and I know it is right, not conflicting with my bank's database.
The product is great for me. I've used it for almost 9 years now. Lots and lots
of great history there and fortunately I am able to control what I get. I
back-up the (now) 3 disks every week. Sure I have a CD Rom, but I got a 3 1/2
disk drive on my new Dell computer just for Money. I wish all you passport
users a quick fix to your problem. Sometimes simpler is better. Steve Tag: PC World Story Tag: 171586

401k contributions problem
I am a recent college grad and just started tracking my money from my new job with MS money. I have a 401k account, which I set up to download from the internet its current worth. However, when I enter my paycheck, I enter the amount that is removed from it each paycheck period to go into my 401k as contributions. The problem is that money adds the contributions separately than the downloaded worth, so effectively it lists that I have twice as much in my 401k than I actually do. Any way to have the contributions deducted from the paycheck entry (for tracking purposes) go into my 401k as regular contributions and then be verified when the online statement gets downloaded instead of it getting added to it? Thanks... Tag: PC World Story Tag: 171559
Bi-weekly vs Monthly Budgets
Recently, I started getting paid every 2nd week, instead
of once per month. My budget was set up on a monthly
basis, and worked well. Now, I want to change to a bi-
weekly budget because of the income change. For example,
groceries was $500 per month, but now I am setting it up
as $500 every 4 weeks. This means that my budget period
will not always start at the beginning of the month,
which seems to mess up the 'Review you current budget
status' page.
For example, my new budget period was to start July 29th,
so I should have $500 available for groceries. However,
the budget status shows that the groceries I bought today
put me over the budgeted limit for the month of July
because it takes the $500 amount, multiplies by 13
periods, then divides by 12 to get a monthly average.
Long story, but is there a way to tell MS Money to start
new budgets every 4 weeks?
I have Money 2003 Canadian Ed.

possible cause of the sign on problem
I am very concerned that the information we are being
given from Microsoft may not be entirely true. After 3
days of this product not working, I am becoming very
skeptical and believe there may be a bigger problem than
what Microsoft is leading on.
I have become nervous that the potential problem might
lie in the Money and the Money Services not being Y2k
compliant. Does anyone else suspect this? If it were just
a simple data problem as we have been led to believe,
would microsoft not have fixed it in 3 days. I think some
major rewriting of the code is being completed to fix the
flaw in the software. Let me know if I am on the wrong
path, I am just really nervous and upset about not being
able to get to my financial data. I am having trouble
sleeping and eating with the thought of all my data being
gone forever. I have several accounts with hundreds of
dollars and cents that I need to access. Someone please
calm me down.
Is there hope?!

D2. Just thought I would let you all know. Tag: PC World Story Tag: 171496
shameful
Software errors happen. But I think it's shameful that
MS does not notify their customers anywhere on the Money
support web pages that there is a problem. I've spent a
lot of time trying to figure this out, only to discover
that the problem is on their side, and they're well aware
of it. I had to dig into the newgroups to figure this
out. I'm a tech-savvy guy, and I feel bad for all the
customers who wouldn't know to check the newsgroups.
This has happened before (with a bad XP patch they issued
back in November (caused double-scrolling in Outlook
Express and IE)). If they are aware of a problem, they
should notify their customers, and not hide it. Tag: PC World Story Tag: 171485
Using client software
I specifically and consciously chose to use client
software (rather than a web site) to consolidate my
financial data. My goal was to have the data (and
manipulations thereof) accessible whether I was on-line
or off-line; to have private consolidation of all the
data rather than on a server in the sky somewhere; and,
to have local control.
All this has been thwarted. I have backups from every
month going back a full calendar year on duplicate PCs
and none of the data is accessible.
If I had any idea that using Passport for on-line
authentication could impact my ability to get to my own
client software and associated data, I would never have
used it.
This is more than a straightforward software error. The
mere fact that this could occur is an extremely unwelcome
surprise. Tag: PC World Story Tag: 171477
£££ This is class!!so easy to make quick money legallly £££
MAINTAIN DISCIPLINE, HONESTY AND PATIENCE...Above all else FOCUS!
Please follow the EXACT instructions and you will be rewarded.
I found this on a bulletin board and decided to try it: A little while back,
I was browsing through news groups
and e-mails just like you are now, and came across an article similar to
this that said you can make thousand of
pounds within weeks with only an initial investment of £6.00. So I thought,
"yeah right, this must be a scam,"
but like most of us, I was curious, so I kept reading. Anyway, it said that
you send £1.00 to each of the six names
and addresses stated in the article. You then place your own name and
address on the bottom of the list and post the
article in at least 200 news groups. {There are thousands}. No catch, that
was it. So after thinking it over, and talking
to a few people first, I thought about trying it. I figured, "What have I
got to lose; except six stamps and £6.00 right,
right?" Then I invested the measly £6.00.
WELL GUESS WHAT?........Within seven days, I started getting money in the
mail I was in awe. I figured it would end soon,
but the money just kept coming in. In my first week I made about £47.00. By
the end of the second week I had made a total
of more than one thousand pounds. In the third week I had considerably more
than the previous week and it is still growing!
This is my fourth week and I have made a few thousands and it is still
coming rapidly. It is certainly worth the six-quid
investment and six stamps, believe it or not I have spent more on lottery
with no returns. Let me explain how this works
and most important, why it works.....Also, make sure you print this article
out NOW, so you can get the information.
STOP NOW: Print this article out so you can get the information you need off
of it. I promise you that if you follow the
directions exactly and are completely HONEST you will start making more
money than you thought possible by doing something so
easy. Suggestion: Read this entire message carefully, and follow the simple
directions and watch the money come in. It is easy,
It is legal, and your investment is only £6.00 plus postage. Important: This
is not a rip-off, it is decent, it is legal; and
it virtually without risk it really works! If all of the following
instructions are adhered to, you will receive extraordinary dividends.
PLEASE NOTE: Please follow the directions EXACTLY, and 50-thousand-pounds or
more can be yours in 20 to 60 days. This program remains
successful because of the honesty and integrity of the participants. Please
continue its success by carefully adhering to the instructions.
You will now become a part of the Mail Order business. You are in the
business of developing Mailing Lists. Many large corporations are
happy to pay big bucks for quality lists. However, this money made from the
mailing lists is secondary to income which is made from people
like you and me asking to be included on that list.
Here Are The Four Easy Steps To Success:
Get six (6) separate pieces of paper and write the following on each piece
of paper. "PLEASE PUT ME ON YOUR MAILING LIST."
Dont forget to include your name and address! Now get six (6) U.K.£1.00 coins
and place One inside of Each of the six pieces of paper
so the coin will not be seen through the envelope (to prevent
thievery).Next, place one paper in each of the six envelopes and seal them
with the pound coin enclosed. You now should have six sealed envelopes each
with a piece of paper stating the above phrase with your name
and address written thereon [don't forget to enclose the £1.00]. What you
are doing is creating a service-THIS IS ABSOLUTELY LEGAL!
You are requesting a legitimate service and you are paying for it. Clearly,
I was a little skeptical and a little worried about the legal
aspects of it all. Therefore, I checked it out with the U.K. Postal Service
and they confirmed that it is indeed legal.
Mail the six envelopes to the following addresses:
[1] Mr .M. Blackburn
14 Mafeking Place, London, E15 2PW UK
[2] Yvonne Edgely
P.O. Box 8071
Bloomington, W1 2SP
[3] J. Doughington
The Grove, New Barnet
Herts, EN4 8AG UK
[4] Michael Fortarna
29 Yew Greave Crescent
Sheffield, S.Yorks, S5 9AW UK
[5] Hussain Attah
103 Village Drive
Leeds, LS10 1JU UK
[6] D.Dullisear
7 Limpsfield Avenue
wimbledon, London
SW19 6dl
Now take the #1 name off the list that you see above, move the other names
up (six becomes 5, and 5 becomes 4, and etc.) and add YOUR NAME as
number 6 on the list. Change anything you need to but try to keep this
article as close to the original as possible. Now post your amended
article to at least 200 news groups. (I think there are close to 24,000
groups). All you need is 200, but remember, the more you post,
the more money you make! This is perfectly legal. If you have any doubts,
refer to #####le 18 Section 1302 & 1341 of the Postal Lottery Laws.
Keep a copy of these directions for yourself and whenever you need money you
can reuse it again. Please Remember: That this program remains
successful because of the HONESTY AND INTEGRITYof the participants and by
their carefully adhering to directions. Look at it this way,
if you are of integrity, the program will continue and the money that so
many others have received will come your way. If you try and cheat
the system I can guarantee you will the trend will be picked up and you will
not make half as much as you would doing this the proper and legal way.
NOTE: You may want to retain every name and address sent to you, either on a
computer or hard copy and keep the notes people send you. This
VERIFIES that you are truly providing a service. Also, it is a good practice
to wrap the £1.00 coin in dark paper to avoid the risk of mail theft.
So, as each post is downloaded and the directions carefully followed, all
members will be reimbursed for their participation as a List Developer
with one pound each. Your name will be moved up the list geometrically so
that when your name reaches the #1 position you will be receiving Thousand
of Dollars in Cash! What an opportunity for only six-pounds (£6) one-pound
(£1!) for each of the six people listed above. Send it now, add your own
name to the list and you are in business.
Directions on How To Post To News Groups:
You do not need to retype this letter to do your own posting. Simply put
your cursor at the beginning of this letter and drag your cursor to
the bottom of this document, and select copy from the edit menu. This will
copy the entire letter into the computer's memory.
Open a blank notepad file and place your cursor at the top of the blank
page. From the edit menu select paste. This will paste a copy of the
letter into the notepad so that you will add your name to the list. Save
your new notepad file as a text File, if you want to do your posting
in different settings, you will always have this file to go back to. Use
Netscape or Internet explorer and try searching for various new groups
(on-line forums, message boards, chat sites, discussions). Visit these
message boards and post this article as a new message by highlighting the
text of this letter and selecting paste from the edit menu. Fill in the
subject, this will be the header that everyone sees as they scroll through
the list of postings in a particular group, click the post message button.
You are finished You have finished your first posting. Congratulations!
THAT'S IT. All you have to do is jump news groups and post away, after you
get the hang of it, it will take about 30 seconds for each news group.
***REMEMBER THE MORE NEWS GROUPS YOU POST IN, THE MORE MONEY YOU WILL
MAKE!*** IT IS A MUST FOR YOU TO POST A MINIMUM OF 200. "That's It" You will
begin receiving money from around the world within days. You may eventually
want to rent a P.O. Box due to the heavy volume of mail you will be
receiving. If you wish to remain anonymous you can adopt another name to
use, if it agreeable with the postman to deliver the mail. MAKE CERTAIN
THAT ALL ADDRESSES ARE CORRECT.
Now the Why part: Assume for example you get a 7.5% return, which is very
conservative.
Please view the following estimated breakdowns
Estimated breakdowns:
When you mail 200 letters, 15 people will send you £1.00
Those 15 mail out 200 letters, 225 people will mail you £1.00
Those 225 mail out 200 letters, 3,375 people will mail you £1.00
Those 3,375 mail out 200 letters, 50,625 people will mail you £1.00
Those 50,625 mail out 200 letters, 759,375 people will mail you £1.00
By now your name has dropped off the list, but so far you have received at
least £759,375.
With an original investment of only £6.00 [plus postage]. AMAZING!
WHAT IF YOU ARE IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES? This is of no matter whatsoever,
aslong as the rules are adhered to.
You can change the foreign currency you recieve at a later date, just make
sure when posting abroad you remeber to send it via air mail envelopes.
It's as easy as that, no matter where you are you will be able to share this
tip and spread shared wealth throughout.
When your name is no longer on the list, you take the latest posting in the
news groups, and send out another £6.00 to names on
the list, putting you name at number six [6] again. And start posting again.
You have to remember and realize that thousands of people
all over the world are joining the Internet and reading these articles every
day, JUST LIKE YOU right now. So you can get £6.00 and see
if it really works. People have said, "What if the plan is played out and no
one sends you the money? So what! What are the chances of
that happening when there are tons of new honest people who are joining
every day and are willing to give it a try? Estimates are at 20
to 50-thousand new users, everyday, with thousands of those joining the
actual Internet.
Remember, play FAIRLY AND HONESTLY and this will really work.
Sincerely,
Your friend. Tag: PC World Story Tag: 171469
Lost CD
I lost the 2004 Standard CD and have to re-install the program on my
computer. Can I retrieve the product code from the registry? If I download
the Deluxe version from the Money web site will that product code work? If
not, is there another URL for the Standard version? Tag: PC World Story Tag: 171468
Password Issue - Read MVP's and the sort
Don't get me wrong here, I have received plenty of great
information from MVP's and other regarding MS software,
but to make us all sound like idiots because we used the
suggested password system for a product is unacceptable.
MS specifically tells you it is highly recommended to use
Passport. Now while we all wait for the fix, we get to
listen to all of you tell us how stupid we are for even
using it in the first place. Personally, I can get
around using it for now, but it is rather annoying that
it is taking this long.
Funny thing, I had always used Quicken in the past but
this time around I thought I would use Money to see the
difference. Fortunately, I bought it about 10 days ago
and I have decided if it takes longer than Friday, I will
be returning the software for an exchange for Quicken.
Final thought, why does MS need to use the Passport
system anyways, why don't they secure your information
locally like they do on Access or just about any other
software package?
PS
I think it is wonderful that you (the MVP's) spend your
time helping others on the newsgroup and you are all
probably tired of hearing people moan and groan about
this. Although, I think you need to remember that not
all of us are as technically superior as you are on this
software and we take the word of the manufacturer. So
when we get screwed by the manufacturer (on something
that should have been tested) we tend to get a little
upset, especially when we spend all day trying to figure
out what is wrong, including spending 35 minutes on hold
and never actually talking to anyone (But trust me I know
how to take care of the Sasser virus)
So give us a break and stop telling us were not so smart
in the first place.
Instead focus, your thought on the group at Microsoft and
tell them they are not so smart for placing the passport
password in the software and not testing their changes. Tag: PC World Story Tag: 171446
