I thought that I would just voice a couple of things that I think would make
money a even better product. I know its a bit late for Money 2004 now, but
something to consider for the 2005 release.

Currency rates:
At the moment if you want to see the currency rates you have to go into
options to list them. Being able to display a customisable list of them as
an entry on the home page, or on the portfolio page would be useful. This
information is already being synced anyway - likewise -

Tourist Rates:
Having approximate tourist rates, or tourist rates being offered by a
certain provider (Thomas Cook for example here in the UK) and being able to
display them on the home page / portfolio. With links to buy current at the
rate from the provider and perhaps even Travellers cheques.

Premium Bonds: (UK)
Proper premium bonds entry in the National Savings section of the Add
Investment wizard.
Further, the ability to enter the Bond numbers / Holders number into Money
and to have it check the bond numbers against the ERNIE information that is
available on the National Savings web site. (www.nationalsavings.co.uk)

Lottery Numbers:
Simple this one. Enter your lottery numbers in a form (for users who play
the same numbers) or in a box for random number players and have it check
them for you against on-line service results.

Endowment Insurance bonus tracking

On the Portfolio screen, have a little "Closed" entry appear once the index
/ Investments market has closed for the day / week.

A updated Windows CE based Handheld PC client (in currencies other than
US/CAN $ this time please)

In the UK edition, if you add the travel icon to the toolbar, the first time
you click it, it defaults to Expedia USA, this should default to
Expedia.co.uk

Thats all I can think of for now. I've submitted these to the 'Wish' Group.
Anyone got any other thoughts?

I would not put this into Money. Currency rates fluctuate
on a daily basis, if you check

change every business day.

Guess what? Money stopped supprting the Handehdl platform

I view the lottery as a tax on stupidity. I don't play the
lottery so I don't want it in Money. Money already has
enough bloat.

I don't play the lottery either, but I know people who would find it useful.
Who I've asked about what they wanted in Money before I wrote to Microsoft

As for bloat... well it is a fairly hefty app I must admit, but I like it

Chris

Currency rates, they are already in it if you look, you have to go into the
options menu to get at them though. As this data is already being sync'd,
making it available on the home page just adds better use for it. I very
well know that they change every day, hence when you sync with the internet
they are updated for you with your stock data.

I *could* watch the tv for the lottery draw, I *could* go get a news paper,
I *could* goto the national lottery web site, but if money can pull the
numbers down when it does the internet update and flash a popup if I've won
something the user would have one touch access to more tools. I mean on that
logic I could go and check my shares outside of money too, but I don't want
to ;-)
Its an XML world, everything's ASCII, It just needs to know what to do with
it.

As for the HPC support, why do you think I'm asking for a new client. If
there was a working one, I wouldn't need to ask :-)
The old 2000 / 2001 client was only made available for US and Canadian
versions of Money and this was of no use to me here in the UK. If people
don't ask for these things, they don't get written, so it can't hurt to ask.

Oh, and have you noticed that Money has contact information just like
Outlook?

I'm not lobbying for Outlook integration, mind you. This is just the stuff
that some users have said they'd like to see integrated with Outlook.

I can think of many, many, things I'd rather see in Money than them trying
to tie into Outlook. (The thought of the Money team programming this is a
little scary, besides.) Like improving the scheduled split transaction
morphs to paycheck feature, adding great new firewall compatibility features
to quotes download, and adding great new data integrity improvements for
simultaneous access by multiple users to a Money file. And that's just
naming three.

I would. I get tired of re-entring the same data multiple times. Every
payee has to have an address, website, phone number. This same
information is probably in your contacts in Outlook for many of the
payees. Let us also not forget the same information is asked for each
bank or broker in Money.

Ah!, yes I'm with you now. Good thinking, certainly something to consider.
Perhaps the FI could provide all their details in a special file which you
can pull off their web site, containing all your account details, contact
data and the such.

As for the Payee contact information, your right that would be very very
time saving!

You only have to put this data in Money if you want it there. Except for
online banking stuff, none of it is ever used by anybody but you. Money
certainly doesn't need it or do anything with it besides show it to you. If
you are in the habit of using Outlook Contacts for this sort of thing, use
'em and skip putting it in Money, I'd say.

What you've said would be comical, if it wasn't true.

I under stated the UK lottery, I think we have it twice a week these days
and its set to get worse from recent reports of dwindling sales (The 'poor'
as you put it are seeing sense me thinks). Their going to de-nationalise it.

That aside, it seemed like a rather easy thing to implement. Just select
which lottery you take part in from a service list, enter your numbers and
Internet Update it for the results. I'm not saying I'd use it, but in
discussion with other money users it came up so I've put it forward.

Its still going to be easier to coordinate than the Stock market ;-)

Its nice to have all the fields filled in, after all you only have to do it
once and it should stay with it in subsequent updates. The information could
have a more prevolent use in the future, perhapse as more banks offer full
banking from within money, you'll be able to use the contact data to send
transfers to people.

Re: What I'd like to see in Money 2005 by Bob

Bob

Agreed. However, to take advantage of Money's features...

My bank allows me to submit a check on-line and the bank will maill the
check in an envelope and stamp it using the address from my payee
information. In order to send checks to friends or utilities, I have to
prepopulate Money with the same information in Outlook. I have the
information in Outlook for reasons such as mailing labels or lists for
Xmas cards, etc.

Also, if I want to call my bank or credit card company, I put the phone
numbers in Money, but if I didn't do this, I would have to open Outlook
just to call my bank when I already have Money open. Not a biggie, but
certainly redundant. Now, going one step further, if my bank merges or
moves, I have to make sure I update my Outlook and Money payee
information. You see my point.

I know you don't have to do this stuff. In fact you don't have to ever
put anything in Money. Just load it up on your machine and look at the
nice icon. However, if you want to use essential aspects of the software,
there are certain things you *have* to do.

Bob

I still ask for (since '99) basic items that most users may use:

give me the ability to CREATE an asset class - such as "savings bonds", "
Income Property #1", etc
so that I don't have to call my income property MUTUAL FUNDS, or my I bonds
'CDs'. I would actually then have more asset classes than the 6 they
provide.

and then to MODIFY it - so that when I leave / transfer my account from one
company to another, I can change the account number rather than
closing/transferring the assets (at an unknown cost basis) (See my recent
posting regarding this)

As for mutual funds, when I download info on them, fill in the blanks as to
whether they are International, small cap VALUE funds, large cap GROWTH, etc
to better analyze my data. Or, if not automatic, at least let ME input that
info. I cannot now: now only Small,Mid,Large, cash, money mkt , bonds,
other.

Speaking of mutual funds, use the category that Morningstar uses.
Why can't I put my Oakmark International Mutual fund in an INTERNATIONAL/
GLOBAL group rather than OTHER
A lot of items don't fall into the lg,mid,sm group so they all get lumped
into "other". So I have 23% of my money in OTHER. how useless is that ?

Two enhancements to make viewing easier:
1. why not let me have money market = cash in the portfolio screen ? If I
have a few money markets, let me lump them for reporting purposes by
checking a box in their setup.

2. I'd like to have the left frame (the "menu area") come/go as needed.
While updating my Portfolio, a lot of my data is off-screen and I have to
slide over to see it. Give me a shortcut key combo to toggle full screen of
data vs "normal Money screen" so that when I want to see all the data at
once (% return 1 month, 3 mo, 1 yr etc). I could just CTRL-W (or whatever)
to see a wide view. Then do it again to get back to a "normal portfolio
page" view.

Well thats certainly a diverse range of opinions and ideas on the subject, I
wonder what Microsoft thinks to it all. I've had no reply. (Not that I
really am expecting one).

Anyone got any other features ideas?

Have the ROI column reflect REAL percentages.

For instance, in one account I bought into Fidelity LP stock on 6/26/03. In
another account, I've held it for years.

When I view MY PORTFOLIO, under the 2 listings
for LP Stock it shows :
ROI 4Weeks , ROI 3 Months columns:
3.4 % 22.5%
for the long holding, AND
4.7% 4.7%
for the newly bought.

If I did not have the long holding, it would appear that the fund is only up
4.7% for 3 months.
In fact it's up 3.4% for 4 weeks and 22.5% for 3 months. For that second
holding, it SHOULD show N/A for 4wks and 3 months since I've only owned it
for 3 weeks. I don't have a 3 month 4.7% ROI in the second holding: that
implies that I've OWNED it for 3 months. It does show the 4.7% gain in the
GAIN column as it should. That's where it should be - not in the
quarterlies.
