I am currently using Money 2003 on a notebook computer bought in Canada. Now
I am in Switzerland and am planning to buy a new notebook.

Which version of Money should I install on the new computer (Windows Vista)
which would allow me to transfer my Money 2003 data to it?

Thanks.

That's gonna be a problem unless you know exactly what localization the M03
was and even then may not be easy. My bet is you will need Money US which
can, IIRC, open Money Canadian files since Money is no longer localized for
Canada. If the M03 is most any other localization this gets harder.

If your new notebook does not already come preloaded with Money 2007, you
would be best to install Money 2007 (which should play nice with Vista).
Transfer your latest 2003 .mny or .mbf file to "my documents" on the new
notebook, double click the transferred file and "Voila!" it should open Money
2007 which will convert the file as it opens.

True if a) the M07 installed is NOT Money Essentials (MEss for short), and
b) the M07 installed is compatible with (**very** narrow list of cross
compatibility) or the exact same localization as the M03.

It depends, as I noted in my first reply, on what localization the Money app
was that wrote the data file you are trying to upgrade. Without knowing
that, there is no way to give you a "high probability of success" answer.

IF the M03 that wrote the data was M03 for Canada, I **think** that M07
Deluxe and above for the US will open and update the file. There was also a
M06 for Canada. IF you still have the CD (retail license, not an OEM version
that came with the laptop) you SHOULD be able to install THAT on Vista and
open your data file with that.

Summary: it depends.
