In the past versions (and also in M2005, I bet), MS has quietly and secretly
(I think the word is appropriate) updates Money without telling us when the
changes were made and what the changes entailed. Everytime we sync
accounts, we would get a msg saying "Your Call was successful" under Money
updates.

I hated that. I'd rather know when the updates have been released, what
they cover, and then decide whether to apply the "patch".

Like many, I am waiting for the 1st major update to M2005 before buying,
installing, and trying M2005.

Will we know when such major update or "service pack" for M2005 is released?

The first major update was already released. It came out on the same day
the box version was released.

My suggestion is to just buy the box version now. (have that hard copy CD in
case of a major computer crash). Should cost less than $25 Net. After you
install, Microsoft will automatically update the product. Now, you can't even
control when stock price updates are reflected if you are either connected to
the internet thru dial-up with Money open, or if you have cable DSL, anytime
you have Money open. No big problem, but it takes getting used to. If you check
your net worth report on a day the market goes up or down bigtime you may be in
for a surprise. Steve

In general, with any Money product, how does one find out when an update was
applied and what was fixed/changed in that update?

Short of asking here, that is.

Even now, do we know what was changed by the update?

To find out whether one has been applied, the best way would be to check the
version number. As for what's changed, well, unless MS send a readme.txt or
publish it somewhere, then it's anyones guess.....

I doubt that Money changes the version # with updates. My M2004 still says
ver 12 Update 1 after all this time of daily updates.

That is my complaint (not that it does any good complaining here..I realize
that): MS seems to believe in "stealth" updates to Money, unlike their other
software where the changes are thoroughly documented.

I was hoping that the Money-MVP folks would be privy to this info and maybe
post it here when possible.

The version number of the initial, out of the box product was something like
14.0.???.730, the update that was received after first installing the
product moved that to 14.0.120.825. Large updates like that should change
the version number. Daily stuff, which might be changes to the bank list etc
(although I think that may be maintained more online now) wouldn't.

I'm sure, that if we are party to the information on what has changed, and
are allowed to publish it, one of us will :-)

Are you looking at the version # from File|Properties of the money EXE file?

Help|About doesn't show such version #'s.

I hope MS is more open in sharing such information with MVP's (and us). In
my opinion, we should decide if we want to apply patches based on the issues
"fixed" in the patches.

I got it from Help->About, it was on the second line - version 14.0.125.825,
just under where it said 'Microsoft Money 2005 Premium'. and a few lines
above the serial number
