    - Stop Blaming the Developers for Everything... I've been reading a lot of posts where people slam the developers of MSM05 and essentially blame them for the fact the MSM05 is so crappy. I don't claim to know exactly how the MSMoney team conducts its development process but I do have experience in software development so please allow me to educate you people a little... The developers can certainly be blamed for some of the defects in the application, but the majority of the design decisions come from business analysts and marketing types. For example, some dork in marketing decided one day that "hey, my bank's web site only shows me the last four characters of my account number and puts X's for the rest. I think MS Money should work the same way!" So the marketing dork declares that as some sort of requirement, which then gets handed down to the development team, and they implement it the way it was dictated to them. I seriously doubt that the developers sit around and collectively make decisions about things like, "hey, we never used Money Express so I'm sure nobody else did, let's just remove it from the application!"     - credit card to checquing Can anyone out there tell me if there is a way to automaticaly dump my downloaded credit card data into my checquing acct without having to manually input each transaction and restate the categories (which has already been done under the credit card acct). My goal is to have those transactions factored into my budget as opposed to simply seeing a lump sum (monthly total on credit card). Since the data has been downloaded automatically from my credit card via my bank, I'd like to avoid the time-consuming effort.     - Money 2005 file conversion issue from 2004 Bought the software and loaded it to my laptop. Did the file conversion (running 2004) and it opened the file......once the first update occurred the application goes dead - screen freeze. Now when I open 2005 the screen immediately freezes.........I also noticed in my directory that my original file which was about 10mg is now 60mg............ When I create a new file in 2005 it works fine and everything is good. So it appears the Money 2005 is have a problem with my existing 2004 money file......... Anyone else having this problem????????     - Money 2005 Deluxe restarts randomly Since I just graduated from college, I was new to the idea of actually buying software. Serves me right for doing so! I loved Money 2002 so I bought 2005 Deluxe figuring it would be a great improvement. WRONG! When I start Money and log into my .NET Passport, Money starts up but then restarts because of an internal error within 30 seconds. No matter what I try it always restarts. It does work when I get into it "Offline", but I enjoy syncing it with my bank and CC info. It's also frustrating I can no longer sync it with my Pocket PC. I spent TWO HOURS on the phone last night with inept Money help people and got absolutely nowhere. It's amazing how "successful" this company is.     - download positions from Schwab, TDWaterhouse, etc. Hi all, I bet there is an easy answer to this question, but I just want to make sure. When we connect to one of the security brokerages through Money (I'm using Premium 2004), we are only able to download transactions, correct? This is all I am able to do. It will not download our positions or contents of our porfolio, correct? We have to build that by adding investment by investment manually, correct? If that is correct, it's a bummer. It would have been great if we were able to download all positions, and even the original prices and totals of security shares we purchased even from many years ago.     - Another customer, sending M2005 back for refund Listed below is my letter to MS when I shipped my product back with the 30 DMBG. After reading another excellent post (Subject: Open Letter: I'm skipping M05) in this group I decided this group was a good place to post it to help others avoid the same issues and just suggest you skip the 2005 version or wait till MS has fixed the issues. Thanks, -Tim ---------------- 10/6/2004 Dear Microsoft Money Team: I purchased Money 2005 Deluxe at Costco a few weeks ago and ended up paying decent price after rebates. I decided to test the conversion a number of times using MS Virtual PC 2004 on my desktop. I am sad to say I am giving up and sending it back for the 30 Day Money Back Guarantee. A few significant issues that force my return decision: - Existing MSN Bill Pay account would not work. Ended up canceling MSN BillPay it after a year's service and moved to my free Wells Fargo BillPay on the web. - 3 of my accounts were completely off on the balance. My checking was $14K in the hole and two VISA cards showed me zero balances. These issues happened on every conversion, but my Money 04 file works fine. Ran the Quick and Standard repairs on my Money 04 file, same results. - I had duplicate accounts in the Account Register that looked like they came from online downloads. It is one thing to "stop typing" transactions, but I should (need/must) be in control of what accounts are created in Money, not MS. (Also, the merge account option did not have any of these duplicate accounts listed, so that was no help) - Advertising everywhere.... I paid for a product and did not expect to have it be ad filled MSN web pages. Funny.. I paid $20 a year for Hotmail Plus and see no more ads on the Hotmail site, but when I pay $50 for Money 2005 the ads are everywhere and I can't remove with a button click. - MS does not clearly state the protections to customers about using MSN Money website online synch. I never used this feature with 04 since I don't need it, but with 05 I need to use it to get access to some of the "new" banks that were listed on the MS web site as "available." It was not make clear on the site that this "new" integration worked only through the web site. So, OK... maybe I would have decided that I was willing to synch with MSN Money for a single credit card that was only available on the web site through 'Yodlee integration' but why would I want my checking, savings and other credit cards which use Direct-2Way through my other banks to be uploaded as well? As the owner of the information, I should be able to decide what is uploaded. The "all or nothing" approach just does not apply to personal financial information. - Lastly, I feel like my Money 2004 to 2005 upgrade took almost as much research, planning and testing as my Exchange 5.5 to 2003 migration. This is 'personal finance software' and it should/does not need to be this difficult. Costco would probably let me return it because I could have explained why I needed to return it, but Microsoft needs to know how releasing products before they are ready and tested is just bad business. Who here is going to trust 2006 when it is released? Will I need to setup a test lab for that version of the software too? How come MS can spend 2 years and millions on XP SP2 but don't test or hire real world users of personal finance users for their release team? Was this product developed in one of the MS India development center where no one uses it on a daily basis? Did the MVP's test this and provide feedback? Did the release team review the feedback and make changes which are how the process is supposed to work? I have been a participant in the Money newsgroup for a while and if MS wanted to know what their customers needed and wanted they really just needed to read posts. A personal finance package should be flexible enough for the long time users (I have used Money since M98) as well as brand new customers and this is not the case. (Example, why pull out a small thing like OFC from this version and break the product for a large number of customers? How about waiting another cycle until smaller banks migrate to OFX?) I am an MCSE and I work for a long time MS Gold Partner and our software solutions are based on Microsoft technologies. I spend my entire day working with various MS technologies. I'm very embarrassed that MS released a product with this many issues and just cannot personally keep "explaining away" why these things happen. The MS Money team made serious errors in judgement and release dates with 05 and users need a patch as soon as possible.     - Preffered payee matching on download This is my first time to this forum and I see that there is a lot going on here. I realized that this quesiton might have been answered, though I couldn't find it in my searching. When I have Money download files from my bank, the info from the bank is put into the memo field. It normally shows up like this: POS 0929 0927 265197 10224 COORS BYPASSNW ALBUQUERQUE NM Now I was hoping that Money could match on the string in the middle: 10224 COORS BYPASSNW because I know that this is "Walmart" I tried to set it up in preferred payee names, but I can't get it to work. Has any one succesfully done this and have any pointers. It there a wildcard in this match so I can say *10224 COORS BYPASSNW* and have is get that?     - Money 2005 Account number displays as xxxxx I have just upgraded from Money 2004 STD (Australia). All my account numbers in the 'accounts list' dialog box display mainly as 'xxxxx.     - 2005: Update Retirement Account working OK for others? Every month I use the somewhat tedious Update Retirement Account wizard to enter the month's 401(k) transactions. Since upgrading to Money 2005, I get an error at the end of the process when I click the Finish button: "Your information is being saved. If the problem persists..."     - Editing Downloaded Paychecks Having Splits What is the easiest way to edit already downloaded paycheck direct deposits in Money 2004? I have many downloaded and the category autopopulation feature has split them all according to one old incorrect paycheck. I don't see this kind of advanced functionality in the find and replace tool which looks like it will only allow me to replace a single category and not splits. Can the find and replace be used We have two different direct deposit paychecks coming in every week both with the same payee named "Payroll Deposit" but going into two different accounts. It looks like money is using one paycheck and its splits for both paychecks even though they are in 2 different accounts and are 2 different paychecks/employers.     - closing account I have MS Money 2003. I'm recording my mortgage payments, but I recently sold the house. Is there a simple way of "zero" out the account without marking the account "closed."     - Statement download problems Ever since I have ran the GDI Plus scanner tool (I had already installed XP SP2) Money 03 will not download my statements properly. I can save them to my computer, but previously I had been opening them when queried, and the updates were then automatically made to my file. But now nothing happens - including not getting the "your file has successfully been updated" message. Can this be fixed? Is there some new security setting?     - Credit Expert service doesn't work! I bought MS Money 2005 Deluxe yesterday and I at the Credit Services page, the Join In link doesn't work! It seems like it's a bug and it is not sending the correct link to the browser. Additionally, it seems like the Credit Expert website is not supporting correctly Money because it is displaying an error page if I try to workaround the software problem by accessing the http://msmoney.creditexpert.com website. I call Credit Expert and they didn't help me and they claimed the promotion with them had been reedemed and they cannot provide the one year subscription to the credit monitoring service. I am looking at a standard view under Portfolio, where all my investment accounts and individual investments under each account are all listed. Now all the numbers in money seem to have been set up properly (at least that's what it looks like).     - Syncing bills between Money '05 and MSN Money I've setup Money 2005 to sync with MSN Money. Now all of my bills show up on my MSN Money home page. I've been waiting for this a long time. When I go to the Bills To-Do List, however, I can't make payments. The top of the page says, "to setup up a bill to be paid online, click Set up to pay online. If you have already paid a bill and want to remove the reminder, click bill paid." There is no "Set up to pay online" item to click or a "Bill paid" item to click. When I go to the payment center, I can't even see my bill list. What am I missing? What I want to do is go to the bill list, select a bill and click something that pays the bill, updates my bill list and records the payment in the correct account. Is this possible?     - Credit Card Payments/Transfers in Money 2005? I use Money 2005 Premium and I have a problem I transfer from Checkings to Savings month end Money treats this as an expense transaction -" Credit Card Payments/Transfers" Even in the savings account this is trated as a "Credit Card Payments/Transfers". I can add a new categ but ideally i dont want this to go into an expense or income...
