An unofficial FAQ for this newsgroup is available at
http://www.bollar.org/msmoney. It was last updated Friday, September 26,
2003. You may save yourself and those willing to spend their time helping
you both time and hassle by consulting this resource before posting what may
already be a FAQ.
Likewise, a comprehensive archive of this newsgroup is available at
http://groups.google.com. Click on Advanced Groups Search; there you should
specify newsgroup microsoft.public.money and some search terms you consider
appropriate. It is *highly likely* the issue you want help with has been
discussed before. In some case you will find it has been discussed **many**
times before.
If you are reading this group through the Microsoft Community Newsgroups web
page interface, you may find the native Usenet tools handier. Click here to

One last word to the wise: I post this once a week so some people might see
it and refrain from posting FAQs. I remember to do this because I also
backup my Money data file to several different locations and several
different media types once a week. I also assure that these backups do not
replace other backups but supplement them in case a problem goes unnoticed
for several backup cycles. Occasionally, I also test these backups to make
sure they really are. I recommend you do the same as soon as you are done
reading this. "Do you have a good backup?" is a frequent first reply to
problems posted here. Don't leave yourself in a position where your only
answer is "no." It's a lot harder to help people when that is their answer. Tag: Unable to back up to removable drive Tag: 156709

Installation Wizard was Interruped before Microsoft Money 2003 could be installe
Hello,
This used to work well on my machine, but I had to
reinstall Windows XP. I did a clean install of XP.
The first install of Money 03 seemed to go ok, but I
couldn't open a file, so I tried to remove it using
add/remove programs, but it said fatal error. Finally
resorted to registry editing as found in the KB articles.
I removed all old traces of Money from the files and
registry using the various KB articles that I found, but
still when trying to run setup.exe from the cd, it very
quicly returns with the message the installation wizard
was interrupted before Microsoft Money 2003 could be
completely installed. (and then it says run setup.exe
from the cd!)
I see that others have had this problem, but can't find
the answer.
Thanks,
Please respond to my email as well as the group.

change in portfolio value
I'm running Money 2001. After updating internet information
to get prices, the change in market value for my porfolio

accurately downloaded, they just are not reflected in the

Unclassified Transactions In Report
I am using MS Money 2002. I cannot create a report that
allows me to include unclassified transactions while
leaving some (but not all) classifications unselected.
It appears that the only options are (A) to only include
specific classifications or (B) include all
classifications including unclassified transactions.
There seems to be no way to inlcude only some
classifications and also include unclassified
transactions.
This option is available in Quicken, and the limitation
in MSMoney is keeping me from making the transition
(which I would very much like to make). Could you tell
me if there is a way to specifically include unclassified
transactions (without including all classifications) and
it's just that I don't khow how to do it? If this is a
bona fide problem, has it been corrected in later
versions of Money?

Certain transactions repeatedly download
For a few years now, I have had a problem where certain random transactions

American Express Sign and Travel payment problems
My American Express card has a 'Sign and Travel' account feature where it
acts like two credit cards: one is the regular AMEX for all transactions
except travel related expenses which go on to something more like a regular
credit card. The number is the same, the statement is the same. The issue
is that when I make payments, AMEX splits the payment up: if I owe $1000 for
each of the two parts and make the full $2000 payment, AMEX shows two $1000
payments. The problem with Microsoft Money is that it keeps downloading the
two payments and I can't reconcile them to the single transfer I made from
my checking account. I have to delete or void the downloaded transactions,
but they always redownload several times. Is there any way to either make
it reconcile right or stop the redownloads?

'transfer from' changed to 'transfer to'
I suspect (as I say at the end) that this problem is due to on-line
synchronization.
----
I have an brokerage (investment) account with an associated cash account.
I have recently upgraded from Money 2000 to Money 2004 Premium.
Normally, when you enter a Sell transaction (for stock) in the investment
account, and specify the Cash account in the "Transfer To:" field for the
Sell transaction, it enters the Sell transaction AND a transfer FROM
<investment account> in the Cash account.
After the upgrade all seemed to be in order, but today, when I opened Money,
I found that ALL of my investment sell transactions have been converted from
"transfer FROM" to "transfer TO" in my cash account. This of course causes
my cash account balance to be completely wrong.
For example:
Before upgrade, and immediately after upgrade
Investment account: Sell 100 shares at $10 stock ABC
Cash Account: Transfer from <investment account> $1000
Now:
Investment account: Sell 100 shares at $10 stock ABC
Cash Account: Transfer TO <investment account> $1000
I have two options now:
1.. Go through every stock sale on record and change it from "sell" to
something else, and then back to sell. This seems to reset the cash side
back to "Transfer From".
2.. Use a backup file and lose a few days of data.
Note: I suspect that this problem occurred when I closed Money on 12/24 and
let is synchronize with my online accounts. I have chosen option 2 and
have restored form an old backup, and will disable synchronization going
forward. Tag: Unable to back up to removable drive Tag: 156656
Money 2004 too picky on what it lets you VOID
Money 2004 too picky on what it lets you VOID
I just upgraded from Money 2000. I use CheckFree for online payments.
Money 2000 used to let me set CheckFree transactions to VOID (for instance
if I knew a CheckFree payment was stopped). Money 2004 seems to explicitly
not let me set these types of transactions to VOID (it just is not there in
the "mark as" right-click menu).
Workaround is to delete the transaction, then re-enter it as a non-CheckFree
transaction, and then void it. Sheesh. Tag: Unable to back up to removable drive Tag: 156654
Cannot re-use stock symbol...ever?
I cannot set the symbol for one of my investments. I suspect it is because
this symbol was used for a deleted investment.
I has a mutual fund investment in my portfolio, say it was called:
"ABC Fund Class A"
Whenever I download transactions from my broker, it always complained that I
had 100 shares of "ABC Fund Cls A" (note the subtle name difference) and
that this was not reflected in my account.
So I let it update my account. Now I had
100 shares of "ABC Fund Class A", symbol ABC which I had purchased
100 shares of "ABC Fund Cls A", (no symbol) which the system had "added
shares" for.
So I delete all my "ABC Fund Class A" transactions and delete the ""ABC Fund
Class A" investment. I then update my "ABC Fund Cls A" transactions to
reflect my actual purchases. This was all fine.
The problem is when I try to set the symbol for "ABC Fund Cls A" to ABC - it
won't let me. I type the symbol on the investment details screen and click
done, but it does not take. I can set the symbol to other things, but I
can't set it to ABC. Even though I have deleted "ABC Fund Class A", it
seems it still won't let me use the ABC symbol.
Details of error:
Go to Investments >> Portfolio
Right click on Investment >> See Details
Change the symbol. Move focus to another field - verify that symbol remains
changed
Click Done. Returns to portfolio view and symbol has NOT changed. No error
message is given.
Note that I recently upgraded from Money 2000. In Money 2000 I seem to
recall attempting something similar and I remember getting an error message
to the effect that I could not re-use the symbol from a deleted investment.
I get not such error in Money 2004. Either way I should be able to re-use
the symbol from a deleted investment. Tag: Unable to back up to removable drive Tag: 156653
