    - Loss of features in Money 2006 from 2004 It appears that Microsoft has removed from the 2006 version of Money some features I found helpful. In liability/credit card registers, the credit limits used to be displayed on the lower left side of the screen. In investment accounts, the corresponding cash account balance would be display. Now however, the system does not display this data nor can you turn it on. Customer support said they removed this feature from 2006. I think that is a mistake. Are there others out there that use to make use of this feature? Support did say (I've not verified it yet) that they have restored the selective archiving that existed prior to 2004 but was removed from the 2004 and later versions due to customer complaints (of which I was one) since users who wanted to clear old transactions early in the new year archiving created a myriad of recon issues as uncleared as well as cleared transactions were deleted. ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes.     - accounts stuck on "update in progress"? i tried an update this morning and my accounts (all of them) got stuck in an "update in progress" mode even though nothing appears to be happening. i've shut down money several times (even rebooted my computer) and the status is unchanged. if i initiate a new online update, it skips very quickly over the accounts portion (like 1 second) and then moves right into updating MSN stuff.     - Money automatically restarts after close down? Every time I close down Money Financial Suite Version 14.0.120.1105 an error box pops up asking me whether I wish to report an error to Microsoft. Regardless of whether I send the error report or not, Money restarts. Closing down again still causes an error box to pop up but this time Money does not restart.     - Full version 2006 will not install After using the Money 2006 Deluxe Trial Edition for a couple of months, I decided to purchase the full version from the Microsoft Money Website. The Full version won't install over the trial version and the full version will not finish a clean install itself.     - OFX import = broken I accidentally selected the wrong account to import an OFX file into in Money 2006 Small Biz. Now everytime I try to import said OFX file, it goes into the same wrong account. I tried going into the account setup for both the account I incorrectly imported into, and the correct account and deleting bank name and account number information, but somehow Money still remembers where I imported that file into originally and wants to always import it into that wrong account. I really don't want to delete the account as is suggested in some old topics on this subject seeing as how I have a lot of data in the account, so is there anything else I can do?     - Vanguard transactions not downloading correctly, Money 2006 I am having a terrible time trying to download my Vanguard transactions into Money 2006. For some reason everytime I try to update my vanguard accounts money tries to make some adjustments so that my account in money will match my account at vangaurd. The problem is that the account matches before the adjustment so after the adjustment the account is wrong. I adjust my account in money to make up for the bogus transaction entered by money but next time I update from the internet money will again make a bogus transaction to "balance" my account. Is anyone else having this problem? Any other Vanguard clients out there using Money 2006 with any degree of success? All my banking transactions download just fine, the only problem I am having is with Vanguard. Does Microsoft keep a list of institutions that have known issues with MsMoney?     - New 2006 trial won't work with 2005 file Hi - I've just downloaded the new trial 2006 - by mistake actually - because i was having problems with the 2005 trial that was available just last week so I thgt I would re-d/load. Now Money is saying that it cannot convert my Money 2005 file into 2006 format because it was created in a different version. I don't have a problem paying for the software, but there's not point in my buying MS Money 06 if my 05 file won't work and has 12 months worth of data in it. Does anyone know why it won't convert my 2005 file? I don't want to loose all that information, and I would rather use the lastest version of the software if I can. Many thanks.     - Address information and Comcast Money 2003 standard (the one without all the onscreen ads!!!). When you look at Online Payee Details, the note "This payee is paid using the address information", I thought, means that when you EPay, Money sends the bill payment info to MSN Bill Pay who prints out a check and mails it to the payee. Is this understanding correct? For most bills marked this way, like my local water and electric company, the entry initially goes into the register using today's date. (When the check clears, the date is replaced by the cleared date.) For Comcast, even though it also says "paid using the address information", the bill I paid today (10/5) has a register date of 10/7. I seem to remember that the Comcast electronic payment has cleared my bank two days from the date I made the online payment (epay) in the past. That's too fast to print and mail the check and have it deposited by Comcast. This makes me think that the Comcast bill is not really paid by printing a check and mailing it to Comcast in Dallas and letting them deposit the check. Is the "paid using the address information" unreliable? Are some bills paid by MSN directly instead of by printing checks? On a related note, is there a way to set up Visa and Master Card bills so they get paid directly instead of by checks being printed? There seems to be no way in the Payee setup to indicate that a payee is a Visa or MC. Come to think of it, ALL of my payees say "This payee is paid using the address information", so what does that phrase really mean? Thanks for any enlightenment!!!     - Money 2006 Deluxe - Maximum File Size Hello, I have been a loyal Microsoft Money user starting with Money 99 through Money 2006. Recently, I purchased gasoline from Mobil Oil. Every time I try to manually add the transaction, I receive the following error: We're sorry, but Microsoft Money has experienced an internal error and will have to restart. I can add the transaction if I use Shell Oil as Payee. When I go back to edit the transaction to change the Payee to Mobil Oil, I receive the same error I listed above.     - MSN synchronization not working at all I had an established Money 2005 file that was upgraded to 2006 with relatively no problem. The nightly synchronizations with all of my banks had been working until about 2 weeks ago when, suddenly, no transactions were being synchronized anymore (for any of my accounts). There are no error messages for any accounts and Money shows them as having synchronized successfully. I've tried disabling the MSN Money linking, resetting them up, and then trying it again to no avail (same problem). I then setup a brand new Passport account and added my accounts into a new MS Money 2006 file and the same problem is occurring. It sets up my account correctly, it correctly identifies the available balance, but then a couple of days later the transactions that had occurred over the past couple of days are not downloading into Money.     - How to account for refunds? How do you account for a refund in money? Example: Purchased $200.00 video card from CompUSA on Oct 1 Money records that transaction in my account transactions and it is categorized as Expense: Computer/Electronics Return $200.00 video card to CompUSA on Oct 7, but also purchase $50 dollars in other items. CompUSA refunds me $150.00. Money records that transaction in my account. My question is for the second transaction, the credit, do I again categorize it as Expense: Computer/Electronics. Money always gives me that nasty warning that I'm categorizing income as an expense.. but it seems to me that I would want that credit to apply to that category so that my monthly reports etc. only show $50.00 spent that month in Computer/Electronics. Is this correct? Or does money then calculate the second transaction as an expense since it was placed in an expense category.. and therefore my monthly report would show $350.00 spent that month for Computer/Electronics? One person told me I should do it this way.. another person told me I should actually enter "-150.00" as the amount for the second transaction instead of a positive 150.00 credit. Help?     - Invalid Path error in Money 2006 I just got a new computer. I was successfully running Money 2006 on my old machine. After successfully installing Money 2006 on the new machine, I've been trying to use my back-up from the old machine to populate the new file with my data (been using money for several years and want to keep the history). The back-up is successful, however if I try to either backup or close the new file I get an "invalid path error". Any ideas on how to fix this? I saw an earlier message regarding the back up to CD causing this error. Might my back-up path be incorrect? I've already had about an hour session with Microsoft on-line chat...they've had me reinstall, try creating new files, and even downloading the trial version incase my installation CD is corrupt, but with absolutely no luck.     - Money 2006 Deluxe Trial - Can't Work Online I installed the trial version yesterday. Set up my Passport account and the online services for most of my accounts. I was able to connect to my accounts and download updates just fine. Today I open up Money and try to download updates and it tells me that "account updates are unavailable because you are signed into Money Offline. To sign in online, restart Money, and make sure the Work Offline checkbox is not selected." I've restarted Money multiple times, as well as selected My Money file from File-->Open, and I never see any screen that has a "Work Offline checkbox". I've searched all of the Settings for this checkbox with no luck. Help also indicates that to work online automatically, I should make sure the "Work offline checkbox" is cleared on the "Sign in to open your file" page. How can I get to the computer to restart in MS-DOS mode to attempt this solution suggested by Microsoft: There is no such shut down option under Start in Windows XP. : When you attempt to install Microsoft Money 2000, you may receive the following error message Setup cannot run while program is running. Please save your work and close this program before continuing with setup. where program is Systray, Login, or some other program. CAUSE One or more programs that are running in the background are interfering with the installation of Money. RESOLUTION To work around this issue, stop all other programs that are interfering with Money. To do this, follow these steps. NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps. 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2. In Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon. 3. In the list of programs, click Microsoft Money if it is listed, and then proceed to remove the program from your computer. 4. Insert the Money CD in the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. Double-click My Computer. Click to select the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then click Open on the File menu. If the Setup program starts, quit Setup. 5.     - error downloading transactions in Money 2006 iI have been using Money 2006 for several months now...recently I started having problems downloading transactions from my washington mutual checking account. I've never seen this before when using Money 2005, 04, etc. When I go to download the transactions, it will attempt to download and load and then Money will give me the error "The file you attempted to import appears to be invalid or contains corrupt data. Please download the file again. If this problem continues, contact your financial institution." Of course attempting to download it again doesn't work. What is odd is that it only seems to have a problem with transactions on a certain day. For example, if I tell it to begin downloading transactions on 10/1/2005 and go through 10/4/2005 it won't work, but if I tell it 10/2/2005 through 10/4/2005 it does work. Likewise, 9/26/2005 to 10/1/2005 doesn't work, but 9/26/2005 to 9/30/2005 does. Has anyone seen this before? Tag: Spending Tracker Tag: 198511

    - Selecting multiple bills within Bills window I had an older version of Money prior to upgrading to 2006. I used to be able to highlight multiple bills that would be paid by the same account and it would tell me the account balance if I were to pay the bills now.     - Internet Address for Bank Gets Overwritten Every Time Money loads Every time I start Money 2005 Deluxe, it updates the Internet address for one of my credit card institutions. It must be pulling the address from some lookup table and overwriting the correct address that I have provided (by going into "Update advanced Web settings" from the Contact information screen and entering the correct address in all four fields). The account is United Mileage Plus Credit Card which used to be administered through Bank One, but recently changed hands to Chase.     - backup to diskette error When I backup to a diskette using Money 2005 I have to remove the file from the previous backup from the diskette. If I do not then Money complains there is not enough space on the disk. Previous versions of Money would over write the old file.     - want a basic spreadsheet feel to MS Money 2005 I help friends, neighbors, and such with their computer questions. I am helping a woman that manages properties, she has Microsoft Money 2005 standard. The question is, she needs to set up a spreadsheet like format in MS Money. [Money Deluxe 2004] Of a grant for 100 shares that have now vested fully, I choose to sell a certain portion of it, say 50 shares, and hold on to the remaining 50. To record this in Money is a bit strange - I have no choice but to "Exercise & Sell" the 100 shares, and then record a second transaction for the 50 shares I decided to keep as a "Buy" transaction. Questions - 1. My broker charges me commission on the sale of 50 shares, not on the exercise transaction of 100 shares. Do I record that commission in the exercise & sell transaction for the 100, or the buy transaction of 50? 2. Why does money force this kind of behavior? Why not just exercise 100, and record a separate transaction if and when I sell some of the exercised shares? I'm still trying to get all the number to match up...for example, the broker withheld tax, and I'm not sure where to record that either.     - New Minimum Payment Formula Does anyone have any idea how to put the new formula into Money? It used to be 2% of balance, but most FI's are going to 1% + [dollar amount of finance charge].     - missing payee I recently upgraded to Money 2006, not sure if this is related. I tried entering a transaction for an established payee, and the payee doesn't appear in the drop-down list. The payee also doesn't appear on the master list of payees. I *can* access the payee by right-clicking on a prior transaction with this payee and selecting 'go to payee'. When I do, I see all the information for this payee, including all prior transactions, account information, etc. I still can't enter a new transaction for this payee. I even tried renaming the payee, but it still doesn't appear on the list of payees. I entered a new payee with the same name, but it didn't keep the history. Any ideas?     - Contractor and Money I'm a small builder of residential homes and I'm looking for some tips on how to set up the following scenario. I build mostly homes on spec, meaning that I get a construction loan from the bank to build a home and then once the home sells I pay back the loan and pocket the difference. Let's say I'm borrowing $100,000 to build a home. The process goes something like this: Thee bank gives me 1/4 of the total at a time. They set up a checking account specifically for this purpose which would be in addition to my regular business checking. I pay subs, vendors, and myself out of that 1/4 until I've used it up and then the bank gives me the next 1/4. My current system in Money works like this: I set up a credit card account and use it as the construction loan account. To maintain a semi-accurate net-worth picture I also set up an asset account representing the house under construction and update it's value as the project progresses. I then set up a checking account representing the "special" checking account the bank opens for me that contains the 1/4 of the loan amount. I write checks to subs and vendors out of this account as the bank requires me to do because the checks they provide have lien waivers on the back that the sub/vendor signs when they endorse the check. I write checks to myself and deposit them in my regular business checking account to cover payroll and my own salary. There are several issues with this system, but the one I'm currently struggling to wrap my mind around is that if I transfer to my business checking, transfers aren't included in reports. For example, if I create a report based on my two custom classifications (Project and Phase) transfer transactions out of the "special" checking account to my business checking account are not included...even if i select "Include transfers (or whatever it's called)" in the report customization dialog. I need to report on all transfers out of this "special" checking account because the bank needs a detailed accounting of all expenditures before they'll release the next 1/4 of the loan amount.     - Update prime interest rate using online services? Is there a way to set up a loan in money that has a variable interest rate the is tied to prime, for example prime plus .5%, so that the prime interest rate is updated through the online services? The loan is set up to be interest only and because it is prime plus margin my monthly payment is going to vary. If I make a constant monthly payment that is greater than the interest only that is due and I do not update the interest rate money will not know how much of that payment was for interest and how much would go to reduce principal. i have a sub category that always displays in the spending tracker. even if
i remove all categories from the list, this one category still shows up.
it's not even on the list which is another question - what makes a category
show up on the list ? they are not all there.
