I am a Money 2004 user that has been affected by the sign
in issue. I tried to use the fix posted to:

http://sync.money.msn.com/help/pss/w1.asp

but the wizard told me that my file was not affected. I
think that the wizard is looking at the wrong Money file
since I have restored an old version to try and work
around this problem. Here is my specific case.

1. I ran into the sign in problem and tried to restore
the local backup.
2. This failed so I resorted to a very old back (January)
that I had on CD.
3. I could open this very old backup, but still not the
new backup.
4. Today Microsoft posted the key wizard fix and I
followed the steps.
5. The wizard tells me that my file does not appear to be
affected by this issue.

I think that the wizard is somehow looking at the very
old file that does open rather than the current file that
does not. What can I do? Is there a way to make the
wizard look at a specific file if I have several? Is
something else wrong?

Sincerely,

Bryan

I would close Money, and double-click the current file in Windows
Explorer. That should get Money to try to open that file. Then
perhaps repeat.

On the other hand, perhaps this would apply to you instead:
http://groups.google.com/groups?as_q=&num=10&as_scoring=r&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=You+might+be+signed+in+to+the+web+page+with+a+different+passport+than&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_ugroup=&as_usubject=&as_uauthors=&as_umsgid=&lr=&as_drrb=q&as_qdr=&as_mind=12&as_minm=5&as_miny=1981&as_maxd=30&as_maxm=7&as_maxy=2004&safe=images

Let us know what happens.

Hello Cal,

I tried this and it did have the desired effect, getting
Money pointed to the right file, but I still was not able
to open my file. My assumption about the path was
incorrect.

This solved my problem. I have two passport accounts, one
that I use for Money and online bill pay and a second
that I use for MSN, messenger, and everything else. Since
my browser automatically logs in to my MSN home page with
the non-Money passport account, the wizard tried to use
these credentials and failed. Once I logged in with the
Money passport account it worked great.

Thanks again for the speedy and sound advice. You
definitely deserve your MVP status.

Good to hear. Thanks.
