I have tried everything to install Money Plus (not ready for primetime
software) and I get an error Setup was unable to install some of the
components needed to run Money. Try installing Money again. Needless to say
rebooting - installing money again does not work.

Be sure that your Money and backup files are moved to a spot that
you will have full privileges to, such as within the user's
Documents folder. If they are in ProgramFiles, Vista will create
an impermanent copy of the file for the user to use, unless the
user explicitly right-clicks at launch and choose
RunAsAdministrator that time.

Check that the SSL2 protocol is enabled. That checkbox is in IE
Tools->InternetOptions->Advanced.

Install Money from the Money Plus by browsing to the setup file.
Right-click that file, and choose RunAsAdministrator.

After install, right-click the Money icon and choose
RunAsAdministrator to let potential updates happen. Reboot the
computer. You should not have to run as Administrator normally.

If that does not work, create a new user and try the install as that
user. The reason is that you will have default IE7 and other
settings among some others.

none of these work - guess it is off to Quicken. Vista has been a major

I'm having the same issue as Keith mentioned above. I'm trying to install
Money Plus trial on Windows Vista Home Premium. This post is really the first
mention of some one having problems with Money 2008 and Vista. I have also
tried the solutions in the thread and none have worked. Does Money require
.NET 2 or any other Microsoft components to run? It's strange that I can not
easily get this software installed and running on Vista. Thanks.

Setup was unable to install some of the components needed to run Money
http://money.mvps.org/faq/article/483.aspx

This may or may not solve the problem with XP. I did experience a
registry permission problem several years ago with Windows Update on XP.

I have not experienced a similar problem with Vista since I installed it
last March. In fact, I would be surprised if this could even be a
problem with Vista, due to UAC Registry Virtualization that would
perform redirection (assuming UAC is turned on). I did perform a clean
install rather than an upgrade, however.

I have tried this with both UAC enabled and disabled and get the same
results. I have been able to successfully install the Money 2006 trial (its
unable to download account info b/c it's expired), but have not had the same
luck with Money 2008. I always receive the unable to install Money because
some of the components needed to run where not installed. Pretty frustrating,
because you would expect this to work smoothly on Vista.

Hi,

The article ref'd in your link provided the solution that finally worked for
me -> resetting the security settings back to the default settings. The same
answer is also listed in this knowledge base article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313222/
[See "Method 6" - I tried method 5 first as it suggests, but that alone did
not work]
Reboot and install Money. I also deleted the original C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Money Plus folders and files before the reinstall, but don't
know that was really necessary.

I did the secedit fix and got money to install. Unfortunately, it seemed to
corrupt one of my limited user accounts (my main account where I do
everything). After running secedit I got a log file. Within the log file is a
section that says "Configure Group Membership..." Beneath that it says remove
ComputerName\Username for my limited account. My data is still there and the
account shows up when I do a ne t user in the cmd window, but I can not log
into it (i.e., account does not show up at login screen anymore). Help would
be appreciated.

I was able to fix the problem by using Dial-a-fix v0.60.0.24. Under the
tools menu it has 'Repair Permissions'. It took awhile but it allowed me to
install Money Plus with no problem after it was finished. I have XP SP2 Home
on my PC.

Dial-a-fix itself did not work for me but a small fix by the same
company & link did. It was repair_permissions.exe

http://wiki.lunarsoft.net/wiki/Repair_permissions.

One click and I am able to use the software.

Good luck.
