Hi Folks!

I have an automatic transfer setup in Money 2004 to take
out a set amount of money from another account once a
week. I want to know how to set this up in the Budget
feature so that it will reflect the amount? In other
words, how do I have the Budget feature reflect the amount
of money I have left to spend after taking in
consideration of my transfer.

Thank you.

If I understand your question correctly, the way I achieve this is by
marking savings accounts so that they are not included in the budget
planner. Then, when I make transfers to savings accounts, these are recorded
on the budget as "transfers out of budget accounts" and the budget correctly
reflects the amount I have left to spend. You exclude accounts from the
budget planner by right-clicking on the account you wish to exclude and
seleting the "Account Settings" and then unchecking "Include this account in
the budget planner". I hope this helps!

The thing with "savings" is that it's not really something the Budget
Planner is trying to track. Savings doesn't make you richer or poorer. It
moves money from one packet to the other. Income makes you richer. Expenses
make you poorer.

As Daz points out, setting the Account Details flag to exclude that savings
account from Money will give you the effect you ask for. There is also the
budget feature for Savings Goals, but it has its own complications.

Forecast cash flow is the tool Money intends you to use to find out if this
transfer and the other budget, trended, and scheduled spending will cause a
shortage of money in your checking account.
