Help.
Had problems with hard drive, backed up money data onto
floppy, then restored hard drive, everything now works
great except Money.
When I try to restore the backup file, it tells me that the
file is "read only", changed attributes, done everything
but stand on head. Can someone please HELP.

Copy the .mbf file to the hard drive. Close Money.

Double-click the .mbf file in Windows Explorer to start the restore.
Do not restore to the default location. Instead Browse to the
location to restore to.

'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money\YourData.mny' is corrupted or is not a
Money data file. Make sure you are opening a file with an MNY extension. If
you have chosen the correct file and it could not be accessed, you will need
to open your most recent backup file to access your data.

I can't open up a backup from 2001.

any ideas????

You are running Money 2001, and cannot File->Open a file named
YourData.mny that you had created with that version. When you try
you get that error.

See if you can create a new file, or if you can open the sample.mny
file that is in your Money 2001 installation. If so, that would make
it more likely that the installation is not the problem.

Try making a repaired version of your file, and see if Money can
open that.

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;274584
describes salv.exe and gives a source for a version that might be a
little newer than the one that is on your Money system installation.

If those don't work, look for other Money files.

Do Start->Search for "*.mny, *.mbf, *.m1?"
without the quotes instead. That way you can see if there are any
other Money files or any money backup files on your drives. That
search should turn up Sample.mny, but hopefully there will be more
than that.

It is also possible, but not likely that a newer version of Money
can convert your file. You can install the Money 2005 trial and try.
