    - Regional Settings in Money 2006 I have been using Money 2006 Premium (version 15.0.125.513) for several months. My computer regional and language settings are set to English (US), and my base currency in Money is set to USD, although I do have several accounts in Canadian $. At the start, Money would open the msn.money pages for investing tools, etc. Recently, Money has defaulted to the msn.sympatico.ca versions of the msn pages (for investing, tax, planning, etc).     - What is the best practice for categorizing Home Improvements? Hello, I have the following accounts: Home (Asset), Credit Card (for Home Improvement Store) and Checking (used to pay credit card). I download all transactions from card accounts. I realize that by categorizing charges to the credit card for Home Improvements as "Transfer: Home" successfully reflects increased value to my home and this is needed. When I make a payment to the credit card from my checking, I categorize it as "Credit card Payment/Transfers" and this is in my Budget. When I download my statement for the Credit Card account, I categorize the credit (decrease debt) transactions the same - as "Credit card Payment/Transfers". This obviously results in a zero value for monthy transactions of "Credit Card Payment / Transfers". My budget is looking at both accounts (Checking and Credit Card). My question is, what is the best practice to correctly account for these transactions? I would like to use the budget to see repayment of debt when I pay from checking.     - Any reason I'd want to upgrade from M2003 ? I've bought Money 03 a couple years back, a first MS Money package I ever used since Quicken. I have not used it extensively in the last two years, but it seems that it has most all that I'd expect from a financial software package. The automatic stock quotes are (or have ?) expiring but I can enter manually. That said, is there any reason I should be thinking about an upgrade ?     - Starting over I have been using MM since 1996. Over the years, and after many corrupt files, I started opening a new Money file at the beginning of each year. I have been doing this for four years now. Any input on this approach, or other viable methods, would be greatly appreciated. Needless to say, this creates a lot of work. But after compiling four or five years worth of financial data on one Money file, and having it become corrupted, can also create a lot of work. Would it be better to create a new file and then import the data from the preceeding years file into it? Should I just continue to build on one file and keep a backup after every data entry session?     - Transactions Can't Be Entered I spend half my workweek on the road and have MS Money installed on both a desktop machine and a laptop, in order to work on the same Money file on both machines. When "backing up" my desktop's primary Money file to a USB stick drive and then "restoring" it on my laptop, I find I can open the Money file on my laptop but cannot enter any new data to that file.     - Foreign Currency transfers fixed in 2006? A while ago I noticed a problem in the 2006 version where transfers between two accounts denominated in the same foreign currency would result in a currency conversion prompt. The 2005 version handled this type of transfer correctly so I asked Microsoft for a refund and went back to that version.     - Undesirable change in the way transactions are matched / merged between Money 2002 and 2006 Hi, I had been using Money 2002 for a number of years now, and I recently "upgraded" to 2006, and unfortunately I ran in to a problem. I manually download a file from my local bank (.ofx file, not using online services). Some of the transactions in the file I have already entered in the register (either manually or auto-entered bills). When money matches a transaction (either automatically or through the "change" button), then: In Money 2002: It would take the date and amount from the downloaded (bank) transaction, and the description and category from the manually entered entry. (Perfect, that's exactly what I want). In Money 2006: It takes everything from the manually entered entry. (Not at all what I want since the manually entered one can be an estimated date and/or amount). Is there an option to change it back to the 2002 behaviour?     - "Online services" vs "automatic updates" I have set up accounts at 3 institutions. One of them requires a password for updates (in other words, I have not allowed MSN to save my password), which is what I want (prevents automatic updating). The other two do not. The password appears to have been saved, and updates occur automatically. I can't figure out how to set those entries to require user entered passwords for updates. Can someone help?     - Can't get account added back in I accidentally deleted one of my accounts in Money. That account was at a bank where I have several other accounts. I'm not able to get that one account added back into Money. Following are the steps I've taken several times over the course of the last few days. Can anyone see what I 'm doing wrong?     - Is their a way of viewing the categories in the Accoujnt Register Is it possible to view the categories of the transactions in the account register in a separate colum in place of one of the other colums. I know you can double click on any specific transaction and bring up the details of one transaction at a time. And of course turn on the forms portion of the register.     - Online Price Updates Somehow online price updating was turned on in my file. I have turned it off. However, when I go to delete the erroneous past-dated Online Prices for a particular stock, it appears they are initialling deleting, but when I return to the stock later, all the deleted online prices (from the past) are re-instated.     - MS Money 2005 backup question In MS Money 2005 standard version, when you want to backup tp a 3 1/2 floppy it does not offer to overwrite the file which would be particularly handy to do since it unfortunately requires 2 discs unlike any previous versions I have used. I think that is pretty lame. So it seems, unless I missed something somewhere, you have to format or delete the current file before using the same discs again.     - Customizing home page Is it possible to customize data display for snippets (such as "Spending by category") that can be placed on the home page? I am talking about customizing what time period and what kind of data is displayed. Zooming in and changing the settings seems to work for some snippets (cash flow forecast, for example), but not for others - it doesnt work for "Spending by category".     - Money 04 desktop and ppc version First, sorry if this has been covered, but I can't find anything with the search that relates. Just recently I've been having difficulties with the PPC version of money not staying current with the desktop version (version is money o4). I've uninstalled it over and over and it still gets to the point to where it is not jiving with the desktop version. It continues to be off by about 7-10 dollars.     - Price History Money 2005 - When I view the price history graph, some investments (not all) display the buy (B) and Sell (S) marker in the graph. Naturally I would want all graphs to display the BUY and SELL markers as a very useful tool. I am told that the Update price takes precidence over the BUY/SELL Transaction. Editing the price history manually does not permit a BUY/SELL option - only UPDATE. If the price were deleted the BUY/SELL information is not updated ever when I run an online uodate. So, since this is an extremly important function that is lacking I am encouraged to manuall edit the PRICE HISTORY file to record the BUY/SELL inofrmation.     - Today's Total Change (but not a Q re mutual fund updates) In M06, Portfolio Manager, the total shown at the bottom of view as Today's Total Change does not, in fact, reset to $0 at the start of each day. It keeps yesterday's value and, apparently, uses that value as the starting point for the next trading day's gain or loss. Right now, for instance, on Sunday, I'm looking at Friday's gain as Today's Total Change (TTC). If I am correct about this, is there a way to reset TTC to zero at the start of each trading day?     - Money 05 restore problems I need to reformat my hard drive and am moving important files to another computer before I do. The problem is that I cant make my files work on the other computer. I have read all the previous posts regarding this problem and none of the solutions are working. I either have trouble with the password or it tells me the file is incompatible. They are both 1105 versions running on XP, I have tried through a network file transfer, through using the flash drive. I have tried transfering both the backup as well as the original files.     - How to reset/clear the budget and fix phantom budget expenses Here's a way I found to reset the budget when there are "phantom" expenses lurking around that don't seem to go away. These phantoms may also prevent you from switching from essential to advanced budget mode. There's currently no good KB article I could find to help me solve this problem. Hope this helps Go to the budget tab. Click on Edit expenses in the sidebar Remove ALL categories (should say Total: $0) then click done Now if you still have phantom expenses in your budget, and can't go to the Advanced Budget, do the following Click on the Budget vs. Spending subtab Make note of any phantom categories you see remaining in your budget (these are what you need to get rid of) Somehow, get to the Categories & Payees window (e.g. banking->account tools->....) For every category (subcategory) that you noted was a phantom in the budget: - double click the (sub)category - move all transactions to some temporary category (use only top-level categories, not subcategories) - when finished, click done - from the Categories & Payess window, delete the phantom (sub)category - when it asks for a new category to put the deleted stuff in, choose the temporary category you just moved the transactions to After doing this for all phantom categories, go back to the budget tab. Click on Edit expenses in the sidebar You should now see the temporary categories - the phantoms have materialized! Remove all the categories and click done This should have fully reset your budget. Move your transactions from the temporary categories back to where they belong and rebuild your budget again from the ground up. This worked for me. Hope it helps for you too.     - Cash flow forecast does not match saving goals data When editing advanced budget: I set up income and expense parameters. I also set up saving goal. At the final step of the budget set up, it displays a summary, including information about savings goal. If the goal cannot be reached, this information includes the actual sum you will have by the date planned. The problem is that this sum is different from the sum I see at the cash flow forecast for exactly the same date. Cash flow forecast value always lower. Note that I _do_ use budgeting data, not transaction trends, for cash flow forecast.     - Problem with Euro symbol I have a persistent problem, and would like to know if anybody can reproduce it. I am using MS Money 2006 Deluxe (trial version). In the currencies, Euro symbol is set up incorrectly - some blubberish is displayed instead of the correct symbol. When I go and update it to the correct symbol (copying it from the character map), it works ok. But when I after that close MS Money and in syncs data, it crashes with the error. After restarting, the Euro symbol is again set incorrectly - i.e. in the default state.     - CASH INVESTMENT TRANSACTION Hi, I have deposited my money in a Bank for fixed interest and fixed amount of time. I am from Canada so they call as Guaranteed Investment Certificates. Now when I set up an Investment account and entered Cash Transaction in it, the updated portfolio showing my total amount as market value. That is true but nothing was shown in purchases. OK thas fine, but at the same time in Cost basis the whole amount as shown. But it included interest which is payed monthly, or quarterly, or semi annually.     - customer lists for creating invoices I am long time user of MS Money. I have a business where I create several invoices on the first day of the month. My customer list exists in two places, money and an access mdb. I maintain my customer list in the Access database.     - Total Change column in portfilio view Hi there, for mutual funds, the TotalChange column in the portfolio view never seems to update for that day. This only happens for mutual funds, not stocks. The updated quotes for those funds download fine however and the +/- change is indidated fine. Any ideas?     - 2006 file invlink.xml prevents web access Money 2006, windowsXPSP2 Basic problem is that any attempt to go to the network by clicking on various buttons doesn't work. (e.g.) in money home page clicking on 'investing' 'planning' or 'taxes' doesn't work. The links WILL work if the file invlink.xml is removed! (C:documents & settings\my-name\local settings\application data\microsoft\money\15.0\webcache\invlink.xml) There is nothing obviously wrong about this file it is dated 8/31 and appears to have been come from invlink.cab. Looking at norton's log files it appears that an attempt was made the first click (i.e. on 'investor) to connect to http://g.msn.com as seems to be what most of the 'links' items point to in invlink.xml. but nothing else happens. After that first click subsequent clicks on various buttons that should go to the web do not create additional attempt in norton's log. Also note that if I remove the directory (or just its contents) webcache - the first time I use money it works correctly and reloads the webcache. Then after I close money and open again I once again cannot use external links until I remove the invlink.xml file. What funny stuff can I have set up in my windows that would inhibit the xml file from functioning? any help appreciated (p.s. disabling norton did not help, second laptop computer going thru my router/dsl does work so don't think it is in the firewall of the router, windows firewall is off) thanks, Michael Tag: Re-installs from purchased trial?     - How do I get Money 2006 to properly process the update from Fidelity I installed Money 2006 Premium a few days ago, upgrading from Money 2004. I have a 403(b) with Fidelity, and automatic downloads into Money. I got a message saying that Money 2006 had to process a statement from Fidelity - it was a reinvestment for one of the funds I have. However, Money 2006 didn't have a clue as to which fund to put it into, and no where within the statement did I see the fund's symbol. So, how do I get Money 2006 to add the reinvestment to the proper fund, rather than just dumping it in an unrelated way, into my retirement account within Money 2006?     - Using Money 2006 makes it so that My MSN doesn't remember my password I have discovered since installing MS Money 2006 that whenever I get out of Money 2006 and then get into Internet Explorer, I have to re-enter my username and password to get into My MSN. I am sure it is because I've used Money 2006 that it does this (because I always select "Save Username and Password" when getting into My MSN immediately after using Money 2006).     - Help.. p;ease.. money 2003 & stock split ! I am absolutely and utterly confused. Hope someone could help.. I bought 40 shares of stock, it split 2:3 so that I had 60 shares to sell. Fine. I later re-bought it, then it split again. Fine. In Money, it shows me originally buying and then selling _90_ shares at a different price, so that I end up with same amount that I sold 60 for. It seems that when the stock split again - after I re-bought it - Money had went all the way back to the original transaction and adjusted it for split. So, if I sell the stock, and re-buy it 10 years later, all my totals will be OK but my share #s will be completely off ? Is there a way to force Money to keep the historic data for each batch ?     - Chase Bank no longer fully supports any version of MS Money I know it sounds like doom and gloom, but I have spent the last week researching this and what I have found out about Chase Bank is quite disappointing. Through the merger with Bank One, Chase Bank has decided to cutover to the Bank One online banking systems - These systems do support OFX download, if thats your bag baby, but they no longer fully support direct download. While direct download from within Money still works, not all fields come down, ie if your employer pays in your salary, the deposit entry will just appear as "payment', it will not include the name of the direct depositor - which is a huge problem if you get more more one payment a month. In 12 conversations I have had with Chase it appears that they know about this, but it will take over a year to solve.... I cannot wait that long, so anyone have a recommendation ? Perhaps BOA ?     - Upgrade from Money 2003 to 2006 Changes Portfolio Rates of Return to Change It's as if during the upgrade process it forgot the results of closed postions. It looks like it's only using the existing positions. I did the upgrade after the market had closed and updated the prices. Presto chango my rates of return went up!     - Microsoft Money and TD Canada Trust. I want MS money to be able to auto-categorize the transactions it downloads from my bank, but aparrently, to do this, it needs to be in "Essential Mode", which requires that Money be able to connect directly to your bank. For some reason, MS Money is only able to interface to my bank in "Advanced register mode", which doesn't auto-categorize transactions. Does anyone know why this is? Does anyone know how to get it to auto-recognize and categorize my transactions in Advanced mode? Money 2006 Deluxe website where you could get a $20 mail-in rebate. If I
ever need to reinstall the software will I be able to download it again? Can
I keep the 90-day Trial install file to reinstall Deluze 2006 if ever need be?

Probably not indefinitely.

Yes, but be sure and keep the same Passport that you used to purchase and
activate in the first place as it will be needed in the future to activate
again. Too bad you didn't get here earlier as those of use here would have
advised, almost without exception, you to just go buy the thing at Sam's or
similar ($23.86) and have the CD forever.
